Overall, the stay was modest but met my basic needs for one night. The room was clean, the bed comfortable, and hot and cold water were available. The fan worked well since there was no air conditioning, and the Wi-Fi was slow but usable.
The window did not have a lock, which should be improved for safety. I also believe the hotel could benefit from clearer professional boundaries and stronger guest privacy practices.
For a budget stay it was acceptable, but better attention to safety and professionalism would make the experience more reassuring.

The area is not properly acomodated to stay and the air conditioning does not work and everything is old in the rooms, smells really bad, not a safe area at night.
There were no towels and room was not totally apropiate to sleep, very noisy and lots of people coming in and out of the hotel when not staying

While the hotel is a good value, and I have stayed here before many times, it is not a high end hotel. Very run down and aged. Staff was friendly and my only issue was the shower has too much water pressure, and beats down on you. Also, lots of small bugs in the rooms. The positive, was the WiFi actually worked the entire time, compared to previous visits and the hotel is very close to El Conde.

This time, I got a quiet room, which was a big improvement over past noisy stays. For the price, it was great—spacious, quiet, with good Wi-Fi, TV, and hallway access to drinking water. Just be sure to request a room away from the street if you're sensitive to noise.

The location is the BEST! it is walkable to the main places in la Zona Colonial. It is affordable, easy to check in and check out. I recommended for thoes who just want to leave your bags and walk and be out all day. It a simple hotel, to check in and check out. I booked Hotel Discovery because I was looking for an inexpensive stay. I knew going in that this was not going to be a 5-Star Hotel. It is a small, locally owned and operated hotel. My room was clean and the air conditioning worked.
The hotel staff was very friendly and attentive. There is a little corner store downstairs with very friendly people.
The hotel is only a one minute walk from Calle El Conde, which is the main pedestrian road through the zona colonial and along the Conde there are many different food options. There's several American chain restaurants. There are many restaurants that have international menus with American, Italian, Mexican, Dominican, etc. sections.
A less than 15 minute walk gets you to Barrio Chino (China Town).
I found the area to be pretty safe. I never once felt uncomfortable in my surroundings and I went into the local neighborhoods where most tourists are afraid to go and hung out with the locals. There is a park behind the old monastery that does a block party every Sunday at 6 pm. If you want REAL Dominican food, it's neighborhood restaurants like this that you want to check out.
I have found Dominicans to be some of the most friendly and hospitable people I have ever met. This was not my first trip to Santo Domingo, but it was my first stay at Hotel Discovery. I will be back.

Inexpensive Hotel in the City - Hit or miss
Missed my flight so came back to stay another night using my reward night earned for staying here for 7 days. Left property maybe 3 hours ago to find out my room was already occupied and the only rooms available either has no TV or no refrigerator. Basically not as described. The front desk agent eventually upgraded me to a bigger room but there was no refrigerator and the TV was not connected to the internet service for smart tv programming like the room I had for 7 days, so I had a differentiated experience. Very inexpensive hotel and centrally located within the city but they need to establish consistency. I am not sure if because I used a reward night as to why I was being treated indifferently upon my return or if they can see such details but I definitely felt slighted.

Awful experience. Paid for three nights and because I showed up at 4 am they sold my room to another guest. Transferred me to a “sister hotel” at 5 am, felt like I was about to be robbed. The transferred hotel was horrendous. No pool, just awful and dirty.

The check in was fine but I think you get what you pay for. The rooms were not that big, at least the double bed room I had. The bathroom was small. The rug was filthy and had a horrible smell. The bed was beyond uncomfortable. The mattress felt so cheap.

Cheap option if you are staying in The colonial zone, but beware, the facilities and not kept up with. Shower tan cold water in 3 rooms we rented. Toilet didn’t flush in one room, we had to literally stick our hand in the tank and grab the chain the flush the toilet. They have a small parking lot, but staff was very inattentive opening the gate. My husband had the run into the front desk and ask them to open it every time (they had no camera outside the gate?!) even then, it took them five minutes to push a button to open the gate. This happened on multiple occasions. The hotel itself is in a good location, but we wouldn’t stay there again.
