I stayed at Hotel Solar do Conde and, unfortunately, the experience was not what I had hoped for. The biggest issue was the bed: the “double” was only 137 cm wide, which feels more like something from generations ago than a modern hotel standard. For a stay in 2025, it was surprisingly small and uncomfortable, especially for two adults.

On a positive note, the buffet breakfast was quite nice, with a decent variety and good quality. However, a good breakfast doesn’t make up for a poor night’s sleep.

Given the outdated room comfort, I cannot recommend this hotel. There are better options in the area that offer more modern amenities and a more comfortable stay.

It’s always hard to tell from photos but this place far exceeded my hopes. The property is large, sunny, well designed and landscaped. There are old buildings that blend seamlessly with the new. The breakfast area and pool are modern, airy and relaxing. We had a bungalow which had a spacious living/dining area with a kitchen. The bathroom was large, with a walk-in shower and bidet. The only negative things I can say are the pool is shallow! Don’t dive. And the dining room where we had dinner had horrible overhead bright lighting where candlelight would have been perfect. The staff could not have been more helpful.

The grounds are gorgeous! We unfortunately didn’t get to spend much time at the property itself, but it was clean and beautifully landscaped.

Our room was clean and well stocked. Included a mini bar for a fee (as with any hotel). Water and some fruit were complimentary in our room when. We checked in. The only con would be that you had to pay for coffee if you used any (typically coffee is included at hotels).

Beautiful room and grounds, some upkeep required.

We spent four nights. We had a beautiful, big cabin, with a master bedroom and a fireplace! It was wonderful. The grounds were lovely, and a delight to walk around, but a little bit unkempt. There is bit of a bug problem, but it is a subtropical climate, so that might be difficult to control.

Good value and lovely setting with botanic garden

Spacious suite of two bedrooms,living room,dinning area and kitchen.
Very polite staff and helped us out to make arrangements for whale watching.
Breakfast was included daily and was fine for us.
Dinner is available and is a nice change if you do not want to drive very far after a long day of site seeing/hiking.
It is in a quiet location of the island and is central to a lot of touring options.

We booked this Hotel to make a change during a one week stay on the island. On arrival, we were shown down a dark alley to a damp, cold, sparsely furnished room where we couldn't even sit together. While the hotel staff did try to make amends, it had spoilt our short break. The half board was a joke. We were handed a full and delicious sounding menu until I mentioned we were half board, the menu was whisked away to be replaced with a grubby, tatty single sheet of paper with soup, two choices of mains and dessert. Both mains were cheap dishes and neither were liked at all by our two children. Do not recommend half board. It is not worth it!

Historic Hotel

Had a suite in a 17th century building. Beautiful old furniture with modern facilities. Great breakfast every morning. Something like staying in a castle in France, except that we paid very little for this accommodation. Take a bus from Ponta Delgada, or a taxi. 15-30 minute drive.

Great hotel, beautiful grounds

The bungalow was perfect. It has a living room, kitchenette with everything you need to prepare a meal, a balcony overlooking a garden and a bedroom with a very comfortable bed.
The hotel has a beautiful garden perfect for an after dinner stroll. There's even farm animals with chickens, peacocks and two goats. It was a bit chilly for a swim but the hotel has a nice pool area perfect to soak up some sun. Very friendly and helpful staff went above and beyond to make sure we were comfortable. Overall a wonderful stay and I will be back.

Great Rooms, a little off the beaten path

The rooms were awesome, sort of like small condos, with a living room, a small kitchenette etc. Really a charming place. The restaurant was so so, and the surrounding area was lacking a bunch of things to do. Great for getting away, but not a ton to do once your there.

Bien, pero con matices

El apartamento está muy bien, muy grande y espacioso. Hemos estado cómodos y en general bien.
Sin embargo, la cocina está poco equipada, los utensilios son viejos y hemos tenido problemas con la vitroceramica dos dias que no funcionaba, pero nos lo solucionaron. A parte, cada dia encontrábamos dos cucarachas de medio dedo muertas boca arriba. Lo cometamos en recepción y dijeron que lo solucionarían con insecticidas, sin embargo, no cambió nada.
Es una lástima porque a términos general hemos estado muy bien y el sitio está muy bien.

Estancia favorable y tranquila.

Estuvimos 7días dos personas en un bungalow individual con salón/cocina, dormitorio y baño. Todos los días entraban para hacer las camas, tirar la basura y repaso de limpieza. Zona tranquila y silenciosa. Fuimos en octubre y no usamos la piscina, pero tenía buena pinta. Dispones de barbacoa con leña para poder usar libremente en jardines comunes. Aparcamiento dentro del recinto y enfrente. El desayuno algo caro.

Las habitaciones 10+ tanto equipamento como limpieza. Punto negativo es el servicio y la calidad del restaurante. Los precios son muy elevados y la calidad es media-baja en comaracion con la buena gastronomia que se puede encontrar por toda la isla.

Sehr hübsche, gepflegte Anlage

Wir wohnten als Familie (2 Kinder, 14+16) in einem renovierten Bungalow. Die Anlage ist sehr schön und weitläufig. Der Bungalow (Wohnraum mit großer Schlafcouch, Sitzecke und Tisch + Schlafzimmer) war sehr ansprechend und modern eingerichtet. Das Frühstück im Haupthaus war ganz in Ordnung. Im Poolbereich gab es eine schöne Lounge und Liegen (Schirme fehlten leider).
WLAN gibt es nur am Poolbereich. Dies hat uns allerdings nicht gestört.
Das Personal war sehr freundlich und hilfsbereit. Wir haben uns sehr wohlgefühlt und würden das Solar do Conde jederzeit empfehlen.

We zijn nooit in Solar do Conde gearriveerd. Pas vier dagen tevoren liet het hotel weten dat er vertraging was met de verbouwing en dat alleen de eerste twee van onze vier geboekte nachten elders zouden behoeven te worden doorgebracht. Dat bleek - achteraf - op dat moment al (bewust) verkeerde informatie. Het andere hotel bleek iets goedkoper en Solar vond dat we hun atrif moesten betalen i.p.v. het goedkopere ! En dat hielden ze nog een tijdje vol ook. Gevoel voor de klant bleek niet aanwezig, wel hielden ze een betoog dat hun kosten doorliepen. Als of wij dat zouden moeten betalen !

Es war sehr laut. Der Kaffeebereiter funktionierte nicht, zudem sollte jeder Tee, jeder Kaffee daraus 1 Euro kosten. Im Bad funktionierte das Bidet nicht und die Dusche flutete durch einen defekten Duschkopf und eine undichte Kabine jedesmal das gesamte Bad. Im Restaurant war eine sehr sterile Atmosphäre, das servierte Wasser warm und lieblose Bedienung. Das Personal der Reption war hingegen sehr hilfsbereit und zuvorkommend. Wählt man einen Bungalow im Park, fällt auch das Lärmproblem weg. Insgesamt ist die Anlage optisch sehr ansprechend - nur im Detail gibt Verbesserungsbedarf.

Wir wollten ein Hotel in Flughafennähe und das Solar do Conde war in dieser Hinsicht richtig. Unser Bungalow war an der Straße gelegen und ziemlich laut. Der Pool lädt nicht zum Schwimmen ein wegen der exponierten Lage im Restaurantbereich. W-Lan gibt es nur hier, nicht in den Bungalows. Die Dusche war reparaturbedürftig. Das Essen im Restaurant war gut und fleischlose Alternativen werden angeboten, was auf den Azoren keine Selbstverständlichkeit ist. Die Bungalows sind insgesamt prima eingerichtet und groß. Einer Familie würde ich den Aufenthalt im Solar do Conde durchaus empfehlen.

Bungalow in malerischer Umgebung

Die Gegend um Capelas ist wohl nicht die Beste aber beim Solar do Conde handelt sich um eine sehr schöne Unterkunft. Der eigene Bungalow hat uns äußerst positiv überrascht, sehr saubere und helle offene Räume, ein wunderschönes Schlafzimmer. Das Preis-Leistungs Verhältnis ist absolut in Ordnung. Das Personal, wie schon oft in anderen Bewertungen erwähnt, ist äußerst freundlich und hilfsbereit. Kurz: Frühstück o.k., Essen sehr teuer für dortige Verhältnisse und qualitativ mittelmäßig, wunderschöne Gartenumgebung, sauberer Pool, tolle Betten.

Hotel stile residence con camere più o meno fortunate a seconda della posizione. In generale molto tranquillo, silenzioso, con un parco bellissimo. Colazione nella media. Camere spaziose con più ambienti a disposizione. Ottimo riscaldamento a termosifone (una rarità alle Azzorre) tuttavia indispensabile per la gran parte dell'anno (\"checchesenedica!\") Peccato per l'assenza di the o caffé solubile e di wi-fi in camera. In ogni caso consigliato!

Zentrale Lage für Ausflüge in alle Inselteile

Nur 20 Minuten mit dem PKW vom Flughafen in Ponta Delgada entfernt, sehr freundliches Personal, Frühstück absolut ausreichend, Restaurant im Hotel (günstiges und gutes 3-Gänge-Menü), toller botanischer Garten zum Entspannen, geräumige Bungalows sehr ruhig und gut ausgestattet (Fön vorhanden, Kühlschrank, Kochgelegenheit, dt. TV - falls man das im Urlaub überhaupt benötigt), sichere Parkgelegenheit im Hof ... jederzeit wieder!

Älteres Hotel mit Bungalows

Das Hotel liegt in einem Dorf auf der Nordseite der Insel und besteht aus Haupthaus und recht geräumigen Bungalows. Es gibt einen separaten Frühstücksraum in der Nähe des ca. 10 * 5 m großen Pools. Als Ausgangspunkt für Ausflüge mit dem Auto gut geeignet. Das Frühstück ist recht schlicht, aber sättigend; leider nicht abwechslungsreich, was die Beläge angeht.

Ruhige Anlage, gute Lage für Inselerkundung

Das gesamte Team ist super freundlich und hilfsbereit, Service ausgezeichnet in allen Fragen. Die Anlage und das Zimmer waren sehr sauber. Frühstück für Preis-Leistungsverhältnis (Reiseführer lesen, was ortsüblich ist und da schneidet das Hotel sehr gut ab) völlig ausreichend. Die Einrichtung ist etwas älter, aber das ist in der Beschreibung und den Fotos der Anlage gut ersichtlich und auch hier stimmt eben das Preis- Leistungsverhältnis absolut.
Trotzdem wir sehr früh abreisen mussten (vorm Frühstück im Hotel) wurde uns am Tag vorher der Frühstücksservice im Zimmer angeboten (wir hatten gar nicht gefragt, da wir dachten, ohne Frühstück abreisen zu müssen) und wir bekamen 5 Uhr morgens Frühstück aufs Zimmer serviert. Absolut guter Service, vielen Dank für die schöne Zeit ans Hotel.
