This property is in a great location on Lake Garda! The rooms were spacious but the central AC didn’t work and had to get the front desk staff to bring a remote for the wall unit which took a while to cool the room down. Once that was sorted, we didn’t have any issues. The beds are pretty hard but such is standard in many places around here. Finally, unrelated to the property, make sure you plan ahead for transportation. The bus and ferry run hourly and although the hotel offers to call a taxi for you, we were never able to actually get a taxi and ended up scrambling to make other plans. One day we used the bike shop next door to rent bikes and another we relied on the water taxis right out front. Also note that that ATMs here quickly run out of money for the day, so just plan ahead!

This is my first visit to this beautiful hotel, and I am so thrilled to have found this gem of a hotel in Desenzano del Garda. I was warmly greeted by Simone, who brought me to pick up my friend at the train station. Then, we were both greeted by Federico, whose customer service is outstanding, along with Simone, and Luis. Federico gave us a lot of information about the village, and offered suggestions for dinner. He, and the entire staff truly care about their guests. The location is amazing-right next to ferry stop. It is a hotel with an amazing history-I am filled with gratitude to have found this gem of a beautiful hotel. Thank you to the entire staff for making us feel so welcome.

Excellent central location in lively lakefront strip of Desanzano, teeming with restaurants and bars. Ferry terminal on your doorstep for trips to Sirmione (worthwhile, but very busy in the summer). Despite busy location, our room (not lake facing) was pretty quiet (barring a guest in a room next door that insisted on making loud phone calls at 5am!). While there was no parking at the hotel itself, the hotel has access to a safe covered car park for a reasonable fee - they will also conveniently drive you to the car park to drop off and collect your car (its around 500m away, so you could also walk). Great continental breakfast selection. Bed was a bit firm and not the most comfortable (2 single beds together rather than a true queen), but room otherwise had all we required (standard city \"view\" with no view - window shuttered throughout our stay - was very hot though and had no desire to let sun in).

Staff was very helpful in anything you asked them. They picked us up and dropped us off at the train station with no issues. Breakfast was very good as well. The hotel is 200 years old, and you can tell in some areas, but for the most part the rooms were plenty for us for a couple of days. Will stay there again.

The spa facilities were very nice. I wasn’t aware there was a charge to use the facilities. That’s ok, but guests can’t get access to spa and until 3:00 in afternoon and must book it for 3 hours. I like morning soaks or at least at my convenience, not the hotel’s.

We stayed for two nights and enjoyed our stay. We had a corner room with a large balcony with table, chairs and parasol. The room looked over the marina and out towards the lake as well as the square. Staff were very helpful and friendly. They provided a driver to take us to the station on departure. Our room was large and traditionally decorated. It felt a little tired but was perfectly comfortable. Due to the location of the hotel overlooking bars and restaurants, the room was noisy on our second night as a rock band were playing outdoors. Not the hotels fault but something to be aware of. We did not use the spa so cannot comment. Breakfast was very good. The ferry to Sirmione and other places was available right outside the hotel.

Hotel hat eine tolle Lage, mitten in der Stadt und direkt am See. Die Zimmer sind sauber und renoviert, absolut schalldichte Fenster.
Die Fassade ist etwas in die Jahre gekommen, aber man hat den Eindruck, dass nach und nach alles renoviert wird.
Der Wellnessbereich ist sehr schön und die Yoga Stunde war sehr gut.
Frühstück Buffet war ebenfalls bestens.

The Hotel Mayer was a great place to stay for our short break in Desenzano and we'd happily stay here again.
The hotel and room was very clean and comfortable with an unexpected partial view of the lake from the balcony. The noise insulation was brilliant given we were overlooking a very busy square. Reception staff were friendly although it was a bit more hit and miss at breakfast. There was plenty of choice of options to eat, however.
The location is perfect - central and on the waterfront, but just a 10 minute walk (albeit uphill) to the station.

A Italian gem. Splendid!

Excellent location, just across road from lake ferry, rooms facing lake are superb, the waiter serving drinks to us all week was very attentive, and lots of places to eat within 5 minutes walk. The breakfast in the hotel was really good, didn't take lunch or evening meals in the hotel as we like to venture out, but the dining room is in an ideal location facing the lake.
The walk back to the train station, although only 15-20 minutes walk, is all uphill and a taxi to take us there with our cases was difficult to find on the day of leaving. The reception manageress was kind enough to take us there in her own car (a 5 minute drive).
All in all, it's definitely a place I would visit again and well worth the 5 stars.

We had to stay longer due to my husband being poorly. The night porter was extremely helpful when we needed an ambulance. Hotel staff even collected us from the local hospital and take us back to the hotel. Fantastic service when we needed help.

I like the location and how the hotel looks from the outside.
I did not like the interior of the hotel. The rooms are old and not appropriate for a 4-star hotel, not even for a 3-star hotel. I would never have expected the non-existent decoration of the corridors and common areas of the room floors. Neither the outdated floor tiles. The price they charge was for a 4-star superior and that's what get me upset. Breakfast was ok, average for hotels in the region. The location is what makes this hotel unique. but it doesn't feel luxurious, the lobby is the only area that gives this type of feeling, but also needs a renovation, they can keep the old style but please spend the money you making from these expensive rooms.

Fabulous Hotel Mayer & Splendid

Our recent stay at the Hotel Mayer & Splendid was lovely. The staff were very friendly and helpful. They upgraded us to include a visit to the hotel spa, which was really relaxing. The hotel is really well situated in the centre of Desenzano, near all the restaurants and bars and across from the ferry stop, so easy for trips across the lake.

The hotel is family owned. It isn’t a very modern hotel in many ways, although we find that is common in many parts of Italy. However, the marble staircases and so on give it a real charm.

We stayed in a 3 person family superior room, which was more than enough for the time that you spend in the room when on holiday. It had a nice view over to the lake.

The guests were a mix of nationalities, including lots of Italians visiting, which was a great sign of how well the hotel is regarded.

There is a small cafe attached to the hotel which appeared to be owned by the hotel itself although it wasn’t accessed from the hotel. The cafe was nice for a quiet drink until he afternoon or evening, watching the people go by.

Desenzano, and Lake Garda generally, was a lovely place for a holiday, and we would highly recommend Hotel Mayer & Splendid.

We needed to leave early on the last day, and the hotel offered to make us some breakfast packs to take with us for the journey, which was a nice touch.

We would definitely go back.

The hotel looked and felt tired. The sheets didn't seem to feel clean and crisp. The television didn't work and neither did the telephone when I tried to call the front desk to ask about the television. Breakfast was good though and the location was excellent, right in front of the ferry port. If returning to Desenzano, I would likely choose a different hotel.

Be very wary if you book an economy room. We booked a family economy room and were put in and end of corridor room with no view other than a nasty looking \"courtyard\".
The hotel deemed this eyesore as a feature. We beg to differ and in all honesty it soured our entire stay as we had to stay out of the hotel room as much as possible WiFi not very good in the room nor the grouting in the bathroom. Not worth the price of 880 euros.
After much discussion the management reluctantly reduced the room cost by 80 euro which is not much considering the upset it caused us

Customer satisfaction seems to be a very low priority which is a great shame as the location is fantastic. The breakfast staff and cleaning staff are fantastic.
.Breakfast sets you up very nicely for the day.Lots of variety and wonderful juices and coffees.

Couple and younger daughter staying on Italian trip. Hotel was great, excellent breakfast and well priced restaurant. I really would recommend this hotel as central, close to ferries etc. I have downgraded the room BUT probably my own doing. Booked a lower priced \"attic\" room - OK but avoid if possible. Very small window at floor level. OK to sleep if thats all you need but no real view.

This hotel is fantastic. Great location, near the boats to take you anywhere, and right in the heart of town. The square next to the hotel is the place to be in the evenings so it's nice to be right there. Staff is great, easily accommodating and will hold the heavy room key so you don't need to carry it around.

Arrival spoilt by car park being 400 metres from hotel. Front desk staff were great, and most helpful. Room was dated, small but spotlessly clean. We arrived late but restaurant happy to serve us with terrific pizza.

Stayed four days. Staff - especially receptionists were superb and couldn't do enough for you. Place very tired looking inside and out. Location excellent and had room with lovely lake view. Bathroom lovely, although towels very thin. Room dark dated furniture and bed uncomfortable and pillows very hard. Used blanket one night as it was chilly and it had loads of long hair strands on it. Breakfast good.

O hotel está muito bem localizado. Bem em frente ao lago e uns 20 min. a pé da estação de trem. O hotel oferece transfer para a estação. Tem vários restaurantes e lojas ali. O barco que leva para as cidades do lago fica em frente ao hotel. E a parada de ônibus é bem perto.
