This hotel is a joke -STAY AWAY!
I had a prepaid reservation for two nights and when I arrived (in the evening) I was greeted with a shocking surprise - “Unfortunately, we had to cancel your reservation last minute due to issue with the room but do not worry Sir, you will be refunded!”. I could not believe my ears and did not know that this was even possible on a prepaid booking.
I could not find any other hotel at that time in the evening, so I had to travel to a nearby city of Nijmegen in order not to sleep on the street.

It’s an okay stay the rooms are nice and clean my only issue is our bathroom was very small and not super ergonomic. It’s a good cost effective stay. Check out the breakfast before you commit if you are from North America, it’s a very European breakfast so it may not be up to your liking.

Position of the hotel is very good, parking on site was good, the staff were very young with not much local knowledge, information leaflets were in Dutch only, you didn’t have to sign for anything you brought eg. drinks and food so when it came to checkout it was hard to remember what you had purchased or not.

Power cut.... but no apology
The hotel us OK, but the electrics are terrible. They have a version of the system that requires a card in the slot to get the power in the room.... BUT I had to call down because I couldn't get it to work... the lady on the front desk said... 'it's probably broken, try forcing the card in... that usually works!' I did... and it worked... BUT... at 2.00am there was a loud bang! AND ALL POWER WENT!

Arrived at hotel at 12pm, was told check in was 2pm and we had to wait as no rooms available. So we sat in the lobby waiting, we sat and watched 3 other couples check in before 2pm even though “there were no rooms available”.
We tried to order a drink at the bar at 11pm, was told it was closed and to use the vending machine… the vending machine had one choice of drink inside and was empty. The shops were closed as it was late so I asked if there was somewhere to get a drink, the guy shrugged his shoulders and said no, and walked away.

The hotel is well kept and comfortable. As other's pointed out, the parking is at first hard to find. There is an underground garage on site but you have to ring a bell on an overly complicated post with no instructions. When I arrived, no one answered so I parked in the street and walked around the front in the rain. After check-in though, it wasn't a problem. There is a good restaurant within and a fairly good breakfast buffet. Easy walking distance to numerous restaurants and sites. Recommended.

Bastion is a very nice and simple hotel in Arnhem. I like the hotel is clean and most of the people are nice. What I don't like: no TV English programs, there is nothing I could watch on TV, and another strange thing is the parking gate it can be only open by the hotel staff, instead of being able to be open with the room key.
On my last stay the hotel manager was rude with me and disrespectful. The hotel manager tone of voice and attitude were not polite. She made me feel unwelcomed.

Bastion is a nice hotel right in the city center with easy access to the pedestrian areas, the market and the river. Plenty to do and see close by. Very friendly staff all around. Great spacious room.

The staff put in one of the four rooms on the fifth floor. The clerk keyed our room card incorrectly, so we had to return to the lobby and swap 2 elevators to go up. Only given 1 keycard. Hairs on our comforter. Only 2 coffee machine pods. No bath mat for a shower without a door. The room was otherwise ok. Water hot.

The bad: There were blood stains in my duvet which unfortunately I did not notice til the next day. The stain was hidden on the insie of the foot end of the bed. I had additional concerns with cleanliness but could not overlook blood.... when I brought it to the attention of the staff at check-out, showing them pictures and video both of the blood and other hygienic concerns , they did not apologize. They said they could offer me a beverage as compensation. It ses the room wasnt cleaned and thats a basic expectation when paying for a hotel room so i expected more than that, at bare minimum apology.

Cannot fault the hotel staff, very friendly and efficient. Only downside is that there kitchens are not open in the weekend evenings for meals. Fortunately there are many fine restaurants and cafes nearby.

After a long flight, and arriving at the hotel, we had to wait 30mins for someone to come to reception to check us in. Various people in the bar, and eventually two members of staff arrived at once, but this was disappointing- we wanted to get to sleep. There were 6 people in the restaurant/bar but no staff.

This is not a hotel to stay with family. We booked via hotels.com and thought we could sleep with one child in our bed (plus one room for the other two). Apparently this only applied to infants and the \"insurance\" did not allow this. The 'insurance' thought it was safer for a 12 year old to be in a room on their own. So we paid for a third room. We were told it was the wrong hotel for us. Not what you want to hear at the end of a long day's bicycling when you get to your hotel. Also, this is the first time in a decade this has ever happened with hotels.com, so a bit of a shock, after living around the world, to find the Netherlands as a child/family unfriendly place. I'm sorry to leave a negative review, but this is what happened.
