Captain's Inn at Moss Landing: What a Delightful find on Orbitz, the "last room" they claimed, the Sanctuary, out front with view of the river/ slough, with the ocean and its sounds just beyond the berm, perfect for we bird lovers. But in all honesty, any of their rooms are probably "the best", I'm sure!
Every detail was thoughtful, SO comfortable: the high King bed with luxurious bedding, gas fireplace, larger multi-headed shower, nice bathrobes, even TWO suitcase racks... and the wall-of-windows view.
The kitchen dining area in the main house was better than expected, with some bonus amenities.
We enjoyed this Inn and tiny quiet Moss Landing very much.
HOW to enter this property! My main frustration, again, is with Orbitz, as after reading the Congratulations! for making our reservation, we did not see their additional 3-4 emails about HOW to enter this property. Upon arrival, we had to call the number found on a sign, which hooray! was answered by a live person. Frustrating that we had to give all our same info to him, which Orbitz already has! We don't have to do that in any hotel!
The gentleman was very patient, and finally we had the Codes to the Public areas and to our room. And my, what a room! Worth it!

This hotel is a short drive to Monterey or even Santa cruz. It's not your average hotel where you wonder if the people are on vacation or if they're actually living there. It's right on the water which is near the Elkhorn Slough. You might see otters in the water and there are a variety of birds right outside of your window. The room was super cute. You have access to the shared kitchen and dining room in the house on the property. I will definitely be staying there again.

There was no staff that I saw , people were arguing and seemed drunk in the room next to us . We’ve stayed before with great staff /ownership interaction and everyone was following the policy rules, not this time it was definitely a different experience.

We had a great stay! The was a faux pas with the hot water, so we didn't get to soak in the glorious tub at one point but we did get it resolved and it was worth the wait. We loved Moss Landing; everything we needed was there or close by and everyone we encountered was very pleasant.

Quaint hotel in great location. We took a trip from Sa Fran down to Bug Sur & really enjoyed this hotel. Very cool house with fantastic surroundings including terrific run in room. We would definitely stay in this spot again in the future.

There were three of us staying in the Dock Holiday room which had a full size refrigerator and stove. Really enjoyed the deck. They are kinda strict about only people staying on property hanging with us, so might be good to know if you are staying there.

The Inn is located in the perfect spot, the rooms are a bit outdated, no A/C. Very nice views, I purchased the romance package as it was for our anniversary. When we arrived I was going to surprise my wife, but i was surprised myself. There was nothing there. I called in and they said they would deliver within 30 minutes. The point was to have everything there by the time we got there. I just requested to cancel it, they insisted. They did deliver even though i told them not to and they even said it would be free of charge. They did refund the majority but not a full refund. I would say, there are better places for the price in the area.

This hotel is a surprise. Simple appearing on the outside, our room was a hidden gem on the inside. We stayed in one of the rooms facing the slough, and it was wonderful. We had a beautiful view of the bird life flying back and forth, various critters appearing and and marine life in the water. The room was clean, compact and well appointed. The bed comfortable, shower excellent and our space was quiet. The highlight is the amazing view. We could have spent all day sipping wine, reading good books and taking in the sights from our windows. Highly recommend. Robin

We love Captain’s Inn at Moss Landing. It’s immaculately clean and so peaceful. We love the riverfront rooms where we can watch lots of wildlife in the quiet mornings. We also love the convenience of having a kitchen in the property where we can go in & out and use the hotel’s plates/cups/utensils. We love our short walks to the beach or the marina.

Get the upstairs room!!

We stayed 3 nights in the suite Hide Away.
There was repeated notes about quiet time and this was where people can relax. We are light sleepers and were looking forward to the peace and quit.
The first night we didn’t get any sleep due to the upstairs people walking around, getting up to use the bathroom, dropping things.
Housekeeping is on the other side of the bedroom wall. We almost canceled out trip, but decided to give it another try. Thank goodness no one was upstairs the rest of our stay and housekeeping wasn't working late into the night.
It was quite peaceful, and exactly what we needed. The area is very unique and tranquil.
We would definitely stay there again, all of the rooms are interesting and I think the boathouse rooms would be my next choice.

We had a great dinner just down the street at the Sea Harvest with family . It was a beautiful evening out so we shared a bottle of wine enjoying the sunset on the property out back . The whole property and Sheba the owner was very inviting and comfortable to be around , we had a wonderful time and will definitely stay again.

Oh Captain, my Captain! Moss Landing is such a hidden treasure, and this was an amazing way to spend the night! The view, the soaking tub, the bed, the decorations, the viewing deck... it was all wonderful to experience! Watching the birds and the otters in the Slough was spectacular! It was quiet and people were respectful of the quiet times. The tub filled up and the water was so hot the entire time. The bed was a little hard, but I slept like a rock!

The Innkeeper was delightful, helpful, and knowledgeable about the area! The snacks, treats, and beverages that were available in the common room were great options. I cannot wait to come back to this place again!

The location and grounds of hotel are wonderful, quiet and peaceful. The room itself was disappointing:
Sink was clogged, took good 15 minutes of manipulation to make it work.
No hot water in the shower, just warm and in our “romantic shower for two” one side of shower wasn’t working properly
Cheep microfiber bedding
Not very clean, we had to have our son to wear shoes all the time, because after one hour of barefoot his soles were super dirty. Shower had hair on the wall and bathroom baseboards are super dusty.
Soundproof is bad too, we stayed on the lower level and could hear everything what was going on above us, and people weren’t loud just doing regular things.

First of all, getting in was a pain. You can’t check in till 4:00 and the code didn’t work on the door. We had to wait some time and 3 call backs to finally get in. The room was super cute, quiet and comfortable. There is no shower, just a large tub, which is fine, but the water doesn’t get hot hot enough to fill it and be warm. All in all, we had a great time watching the birds, seals and otters out the big front windows.

I regret booking here. We stayed in the old blue house, which creaks and kind of smells. There are no staff on site, so although they put in writing everywhere to contact them, what can really be fixed via phone? When checking in, my daughter needed the bathroom desperately. The check in agent on the phone would not give us the code to get in the room until after i gave my credit card. I had prepaid, mind you, so why not respond graciously so my daughter could go to the bathroom? Also, he was hard to understand. When we got into the room, the window was open and it was cold and damp. If you like old rooms and antiques and want to be left alone in the fog and drizzle to write a book, maybe you will be happy here. I was not.

This property is located on Moss landing, which is about 25 minutes to the Fisherman’s wharf.
It’s located right off the Salinas river. To go to the beach you just need to go over the bridge and dunes. Ocean by this area has strong current. Don’t recommend getting in water.
Inn is in Quiet location with minimal traffic. Everything is virtual, including your check-in. No one is on staff. They offer cereal and danish for breakfast. Coffee or tea. No refrigerator in room, but there is a refrigerator everyone can use. You just need to label your stuff in frig. no ice machine. But they do provide some ice.
Internet is a little bit spotty.
Inn has Nice romantic, vibe, and relaxing getaway.

This place is really nice. The only downside is it is REALLY quiet throughout the building. And there's a "quiet time" from 9pm to 9am. I mean it is QUIET and the walls are pretty thin. So (if you're a considerate person) you're basically whispering if you are talking with whoever you're sharing the room with. Like not even using an "inside voice" because you feel like you're going to bother other guests. We didn't even turn on the TV at night because we felt like others might hear it even at a low volume. That's a bit of an inconvenience. But if you're a quiet person/couple it would probably actually be ideal.

This property was definitely unique. However, the bed was extremely uncomfortable (way too firm) and very high off the ground since we slept on a mattress on an actual boat. There were stepstools to get onto the bed on either side. And the bedside tables were normal size so you had to reach down almost 2 feet to put your belongings on the tables. Also, the water pressure was poor and the water heater must be for the entire unit because there was hardly tepid water when I went to shower in the evening.

It’s a beautiful property and I love the wildlife and the surrounding area but otherwise I wouldn’t stay there again.

Also, you should know that it says that there’s a refrigerator in a microwave in the listing however it is in a common area and you have to put your name on your food in the refrigerator, so that was inconvenient. If you wanted a late night snack, you had to go out of your room, walk across a small parking lot, unlock the main building doors and go into a common area to use these amenities.

They never let me through the front door. After spending 30 minutes at the front door talking to someone on their "red phone" i finally gave up. They have nobody on site to assist so if there are any issues, you are at the mercy of the mystery person on the phone. That peron in my case was incompetent and rude. You have other choices of places to stay, i suggest doing so.

The place was extremely clean and sanitary. Thats honestly my biggest requirement. It was easy check by calling a 24 hour receptionist and they text you your room and code to get in. Lots of cool decor (bed was sitting on a boat trailer, etc) and THE VIEW was amazing. I spotted a lot of birds and even an Otter floating by.

Booked through Expedia, and all communications sent to me through Expedia about check in and other info. No mention of needing to call the inn and provide my credit card for a deposit. Received a call from someone who was very uncertain and asking for my credit card number which felt like a scam. Refused. Still no msg on Expedia about needing to provide further information to get code to check in. Called the number provided on Expedia and got the same story so provided my credit card number. Other than that everything was easy.

This was a beautiful and historic property! Some friends and I stayed here for my birthday trip and it was incredibly relaxing. We loved the view as there were plenty of wildlife to see. I highly recommend taking a walk around the property and down towards the docks.
The room we were placed in was clean and well kept. I know I spent a majority of my time enjoying the sea breeze from a seat on the balcony. I would definitely come back in the future.

We arrived late due to family obligations--after 9:30 PM, but there is no check-in so it all went smoothly. We were texted the codes for entering the room and common areas and were set.

A little strange. No staff here at this location. Bed was dangerously high for seniors. No warning that the bed was 3 feet off the floor with benches to get up to the bed. Never had anything like this anywhere in the world.

Thank you so much for the lovely stay at the Captain's Inn. The room was quite unique. I loved all the special touches such as the water carafe, the beautiful water glasses, the delicious hot coffee from the in-room coffee maker, the lovely soap dish, the robes, and of course, the wicker chairs in the sitting area with large windows for the view. I also loved the decor! The eclectic decor in the outdoor and indoor shared space is also special. I will look forward to coming back.
