If you just need something cheap for a night it’s ok. We had a 4am flight so we just came for a few hours as we weren’t staying in Santo Domingo for the duration of the trip and wanted something close to the airport due to the early flight. No shampoo or shower gel. Tons of mosquitos, and very uncomfortable bed. The guy at the reception was very kind and nice.

The owner is a thief. I had to pay $35 a day extra for AC and $15 a day extra for internet and I had to pay that before I check in… and to top it off I deposited $40 for a gate key which was supposed to be refunded when I returned the keys but he did not give me the refund. The AC was only at night. The owner stated that if I need AC during the day that’s and extra $15 a day. The internet was not working for over a week but he did not refund any money. That man is a crook . I don’t think anyone should fall into a trap like that. I had to go with what he said cause we had nowhere else to go. That hotel is a very bad place to be….No security it’s just terrible

I was treated horribly after my flight arrived at 3am and was told he wasn't supposed to be handling clients at that time. I was told to leave premises since I didn't want to pay $80 to check in 4 hours early. I was also not refunded my week stay, not did expedia back me. Horrible experience. It's not even located where it says.

Not very comfortable for families.

Can't adjust the A/C past a predetermined temperature or else it would supposedly break according to the manager, which was insufficient to keep the room cool enough. Also no blankets or comforters on beds. One towel in room for 3 people. Room not cleaned at all during stay. One set of eating utensils for 3 people. Property extremely slow at responding to messages despite suggesting is the fastest way to communicate. Will say the property itself is very secure despite being in a sketchy area.

ATTENTION ALL FOREIGNERS AND LOCALS!!!! I booked this hotel because my flight was arriving late (10:45pm) and the hotel is about 20 minutes from the airport. I just wanted to book a place that wasn’t too far and would let me get a few hours of sleep. When making the reservation, I made arrangements to make sure they knew my arrival time and asked for them to send a driver. Originally, they said the cost was $30 USD (on their site it says one way transport from the airport is free). Regardless, I told them that is fine and to go ahead and book it for $30 USD. They messaged me back a day later and said the fee is $35 USD which I never agreed to and ignored the message entirely because I was going to just use Uber or Lyft at that price. I show up to the airport and of course there is a shuttle guy waiting for me with my name on the sign telling me it’s $35 and it’s already booked. Told him I never agreed to it. He drove me back anyways cause he said it was charged already. We arrive to the hotel and the driver cannot get ahold of anyone. Upon arrival the front desk was closed!!!! Can you believe it?!? They sent a driver, charged me $35 for this guy to drive me to their hotel and then didn’t even have anyone ready to check me in!!! That’s not the worst part unfortunately. So, the driver calls their phone number approximately 10x and finally someone answers. He explains they have a guest with a late check-in. I never got keys. No air conditioning. Filthy conditions. -100 stars!!!

The view outside the window consisted of a lot of garbage, The fridge door did not close, a leakage on the badroomfloor, I had to carry my suitcase 4 flores up, there was no help elivator. After 21:00 no visitors were allowed.The room was very small

We love the simplicity and at home feeling. We feel safe and secure and we love the fact that we can park our car in a secured lot. We had a nice leather couch this time which is much cooler in the heat and cleaner. Everything fit our needs and we will definitely continue to go here! The property owners/managers are incredible! The people running the place is extremely nice. They were able to accommodate my request of another bed at an additional charge. The customer service was so nice that I didn’t mind. When I requested a 1st floor unit for my elderly dad they accommodated me within few sec. they made sure I was happy and placed my needs 1st. The rooms were clean. The ac runs from 8pm to 8am. The bedroom gets really cold after 9pm. The shower was nice and spacious. There was working hot water and free WiFi that worked well. I was able to stream tv from my phone.

Price is affordable and the location is exactly where i wanted to be. The property and the rooms need to be upgraded. I reserved a room with a sea view... none of the rooms have any type of views. No fans in some of the rooms and there is a 10/daily to use the air conditioning after 8am and before 8pm. Overall it was ok

This hotel is good for a quick 2/3 night stay and is 20 mins drive from the airport. The facilities were decent enough and the check in process was smooth at 12.00am. Shower was a slight problem as it wasn't strong enough.Owner and family were very hospitable. Local area was good. Would stay again.

There's an additional fee to have the a/c run after 8:00am, hot water is scarce in the units , Windows are improperly a line letting in any and all the additional noise, no elevator service, there's no mop or broom in the units and its called an apartment or studio unit ,but it's missing some important basics. But if you are looking for inexpensive and are willing to ruff it for a short time then go for it.

Nice property.

They charged some money to clean the room for every night, but they complain all the time I asked to do it. They shut off the water very often, three of the five days I spent there did not finish my shower because of the water.
The building is good, just the customer service need improve.

This was my third stay at the hotel and well the guy working there was a bit rude this time. I Felt like he wanted me to pay extra for a room on the first floor so he gave us a room in the six floor. Then he joked about me being able to climb the stairs because of my weight. Rented a luxury room got a basic, had flies in the shower. I stay there because it’s affordable and I’m never in the hotel so why pay more. I got food poisoning while there and asked if I could pay a few hrs instead of a whole night he said he couldn’t do it. I had to leave the hotel sick and go to a cabana. I think he should be nicer to return constumers but I guess he doesn’t need my money and that will be the last time I will stay at that hotel.

VERY DISAPPOINTED!

It all started with me getting here after a very long 16 hour day trip. My room was prepaid for every day. At the latter end I was upgrading the larger room but not until that time. Donald was insistent that I upgrade for every night, siting he’ll give me a deal if I did. He proceeded to charging me an extra $34.50 per night; totaling $138 extra. I told him that I’m tired so let me rest and I’ll come back tomorrow to do the upgrade. He insisted I needed to do it right then. As a returning guess I asked if he'd give me the same rate as for the other nights! He refused to. He charged me 300 Pesos for a large Presidente beer. These beers are high at 130 Pesos at the grocers. I gave him 335 Pesos and realized that he did not give me change. When I asked him for my change he said, it’s only 35 Pesos. Well that equates to .75 U.S. American cents. I didn’t agree to a tip so I saw this as extortion. Most people probably just let it go in fear of having problems in a foreign country. Be careful. Did not give me a receipt for the extra $138.00 for the upcharges. Nothing on booking site that demands a $20 cash deposit for room key and parking lot access he charged me. He claimed i didn't return the keys/camera footage proved i did. He apologized after humiliating me.Donald, the manager, knocked on my door aggressively demanding I take my bad review down. He charged me a $2.00/day cleaning fee, came once in 8 days. Charged me a $5.00/day miscellaneous resort fee. No welcome drink

Orbitz/Hotel must have all prices in one package. It is not fair to customers when they get to the hotel to see more charges such as $6.00 daily for gaz and $2,00 for room to be cleaned each day and that is not the case. What happen if the customer has no money? Customer will be sent back home??? Very ridiculous and this practice must stop. Thank you in advance.

They were doing construction 🚧 in building was not able to sleep late. Had to ask for towel toilet paper and room clean and or to fix sink or change rooms several times before was awknowldged. Great security. Location. Hot water and working kitchen to cook. I would stay here if you plan to stay a week and cook to save money. I would say stay again

Nice bang for the buck. They charge five bucks a day for gas and a.c.. I made sure I cooked to use the gas and the a.c. is on from 8 pm to 8 am. When I got there Donald, the manager, didn't have change so he wrote an amount on the back of a card. When I got a magnetic key later I told him to apply the balance he owed to the cost. He asked for a receipt and when i didn't produce it he denied it. I remembered it was on the card he gave me. He then made a big procession over a reciet for the magnetic card. It was like that for other things too. I figured ir you pay a deposit for a key, card, or other item that you get the money back when you turn them in. Not there, ask for a receipt and keep the receipt.

It’s very noisy...!! I felt like I am sleeping on the street!! Nothing is really walk distance!! The amount of money I paid in this hotel. With 5$ extra I got 3 Star in colonia zona with 10 times more convenient and clean hotel, nice bed, quit and everything was walk distance!!!

Everything very old and poorly maintained inside hotel but Staff very nice. I got a two bedroom with “city view” just for a night in Santo Domingo. It’s very close to the airport. Rooms are very dusty, sheets are very old; worse of it all air conditioning, microwave and fridge did not work. I was on the 4th floor, no elevator. DO NOT LET THE PICTURES FOOL YOU.

Great little apartment I stayed here for 3 weeks and never had a problem budget friendly safe location Donald and his team goes out of there way to make sure you are comfortable the hotel charge a small 15 percent of your total cost and a 2 dollar a day for the gas in the room/ cleaning staff the a.c. is free from 8am to 8 pm there is absolutely no reason to complain because with the 15 percent fee and 2USD a day it's still a deal

Nice hotel with awesome staff! However, I had to pay a fee when I arrived (wasn't expecting that), there was poor ventilation in the room with a lot of pressure build up, and one night there was a cockroach in the bathroom.
I only used the room at night to sleep, so it was okay! If you plan on spending more time in your hotel room, I would recommend something a little nicer.

My horrible experience

I booked this hotel for 11 days. I got stuck in the hurricane that happened in Houston Texas two days before my travel. I called 6 hrs before my reservation to change my days and they refused. I asked for a refund they also refused. Even tho I told them about the hurricane, they still refused. Never heard such in my life!!!!!! I lost my money to this place and I don't recommend it to anyone!

The hotel does not provide Air conditioning 24 hours a day. It's just from 8 pm to 8 am. If you want it 24 hours, you have to pay $ 10 per day. They were doing construction. There was a lot of dust and they do not clean the dust. They do not do clean the rooms everyday, which is fine with me for the price. They do not have a safe either at the front desk or in the rooms.

We liked the hotel, it was what we payed for. The staff was friendly. You don't get air conditioning until 8pm and then it's turned off again at 8am if you don't pay extra. That was no big deal because we weren't there most of the day. Our shower head was broken. And we don't know the source but everybody that we knew that stayed in this location got Amoebas some how. None of us ate the same food, my family didn't eat out at all. So we think some how it must have come from the hotel water supply (showering or possibly rinsing dishes) not sure how to explain it, but be careful. Overall it wasn't a bad experience, I just wish my family and friends wouldn't have got ill.

Hotel Review on Tropical Island Aparthotel

Expedia should not recommend this hotel to ANYONE, I would like to get my money back, we did not stay at the hotel after they showed us the room, very small, rude staff, not properly maintained, complete waste of my money

Decent 2 bedroom apartment

Donald the manager greeted the family during the check in process. He was very pleasant and professional. He speaks English very well. His wife Milagros (I believe that was her name) was very friendly so was their daughter.
Donald would call taxis for you and he would tell you the exact fare to prevent overcharging. The place is clean and quite. The area is residential place, but taxis ride are quite cheap to move around. Parking is free, but with limited space.
I will go back again.

We made a booking based on the information provided. We were supposed to get a family apartment with two bedrooms. Each room was supposed to have airco, a ceiling fan , free WIFI. Well there was no ceiling fan, only an airco, but they charged US$ 6 per room per night and they didn't tell that in the information. WIFI was nowhere in the hotel. Hair and other dirt in the shower and the blankets had some suspicious stains. Maybe we could have guessed that when they mentioned in the information that you have to be 18+
When we complained, the old guy by the frontdesk just laughed and said we had to accept it. When we told him we were going to mention this in our review, he said that they did not mind.

Home away from home..

Donald and his family are wonderful people. I recommend this hotel if it is your first trip to the DR. They were very helpful in every way, and I can't wait to go back for another visit.

Is ok

Hotel let peoples to bother with noises on hallways all night long. I usually wake up early and stay uot working and like to rest all night. Is almost imposible to much noise!!
