Overall look of the hotel outside and inside is tired, looks like something from the 80s. Evening meal was ok, but the service was extremely slow considering there was only 6 of us in the dining room.
The room itself was ok, bed was reasonably comfy, tv was huge but only basic channels even though it had the capability for Netflix etc, it wouldn’t connect to the broadband.
Bathroom was very tired, tiles n grouting/sealant round the bath grubby.
Went down for breakfast again only a few of us waiting on breakfast and it was slow, coffee out the machine was lukewarm and tasted funny, and the food when it came was horrible, asked for scrambled eggs and it looked like they had mixed some mushed up fried egg through it. sausage and bacon were the cheapest of the cheap, didn’t eat any of it.

The facilities are so run down, mould in the bathroom, doors that dont fit, general decor is tatty and the rooms are dirty. Staff were friendly and breakfast was ok, although just a little greasy. We wouldnt stay here again but based on cost, you get what you pay for. Poor doos Waterside......

Clean and tidy with lovely staff, the hotel had decent amenities but could use a lot of updating. But for £72 a night thats acceptable. Food was basic with quite a small menu and the buffet breakfast at over £11 was definitely not value for money. Id go back but wouldnt bother with the food.

The hotel is in desperate need of an upgrade. The rooms are tired and the general Hotel has a 1970s vibe.

The leisure facilities for guests are chargeable, you have to pay £5 to use the facilities which are old and outdated. There is also a charge for a towel and a deposit needed for a key for the locker room.. I was rather disappointed to be honest.

Asked about gym hours and access at time of check in, I was told it closes at 8:30pm and I would only have to check in with the gym receptionist. I go to the gym at 7:20pm and am informed that I have to pay an additional fee to use the gym facilities. I ask if they can charge my room and I am told I have to pay before use. I trek to my room, get my card, and trek back only to find they have difficulties with the card machine. It would've been convenient if at time of check in when I had my wallet and specifically requested gym information, that I pay at that time or charge my room so I pay at check out.

The waterside is great, it is very dated but the price reflects that. There’s nothing else around this part of Scotland that gives you this level of value for money. I wouldn’t go there expecting the world but it’s clean, has a nice restreraunt, a so with sauna, jacuzzi, pool and steam room and the staff are very attentive.

I love the place and will be going back next weekend.

If You enjoy golfing, stay at the waterside. You can walk to the most fantastic links course.

Food was nice, but the service, particularly on a morning made you feel like you were personally the reason they had to get out of bed. No organisation for seating you for breakfast, I was sat at Three tables at one point, before being served. Not to mention the big sigh I was greeted with when asking for a table for three. The place is aged, and not in a good way. Bar staff keep vanishing. It was a very hot week and the room was baking, no air con and a sign beside your window saying not to leave it open as the swallows might get in! Really not a good place to stay. It’s obvious why the other places get snapped up early.

Fine for a short stay

On arrival at Waterside Hotel, found the car park was mostly filled with work vans, so wondered if it was the right choice for a couple, but on entering we found the staff friendly and helpful, the room was basic but clean, the TV was set on the dressing table blocking the mirror.
Breakfast in the morning was really good, with a great choice and tasty well cooked hot food and good speedy service, so good value overall.

Stayed for 2 nights and was happy overall. Staff were friendly and welcoming, room was clean, pricing was within my budget.

Cooked breakfast in the morning not so good - buffet style/hot plate, and food was luke warm. The beans were hot though. This is the downside of hot plate service. There was plenty of food a available though, cereals also.

Dinner at night however a different story. Different menu each night with several options. Both nights the food was really good. Menu has set pricing of 1, 2 or 3 courses. Which was very reasonable.

Unfortunately the company left a little to be desired on the first evening… there were a group of tradesmen in who were obviously regulars as they were very familiar with the staff. With that being the case, I feel the staff should be comfortable enough without being prompted, in reminding them that there are other guests dining - their language was very colourful and loud. I felt very uncomfortable and got through dinner as quick as possible.

Was looking forward to the pool (one of the reasons I booked here). Unfortunately the pool is not that great - kidney bean shaped, which does not allow for a lot of people in the pool especially if you actually want to swim lengths. I managed, but I felt very conscious and almost guilty of getting in the way of others. I certainly enjoyed the steam room afterwards.

The location is about 1.5 miles from the town centre, so a quick drive or a nice wee walk if you prefer.

Not happy at all. Chaotic check-in, room very run down - in fact the whole hotel could do with a re-furb. Hotel was advertised as having free wi-fi and a swimming pool. Wi-fi only free in bar area (which they turn off if they are looking to close up - and this was soon after 9pm!!). First night the barmaid was loudly complaining about the fact that customers were asking for drinks when she wanted to clear up. There was a swimming pool but there was a charge of £5 per person, per session- more expensive than our local leisure centre, which has a full size pool. Overall very poor service from staff who clearly were not customer focused. Bed and pillows very hard. We stayed for 3 nights and didn’t get one good nights sleep. Again bathroom could have benefited from a really deep clean.

Positives: room and bathroom were very clean, bed comfortable and high ceilings prevented a small room being claustrophobic. Manager was attentive, restaurant staff also pleasant, especially Colleen and a chap with a southern Scottish accent (sorry, name escapes me). Food was good and plentiful. Excellent value for money.
Negatives: a bit off the beaten track. Receptionist not very well informed and thought it was okay not to wear her mask because \"she was sitting down\". Poorly fitted masks or not covering nose commonplace amongst the staff. Disappointing especially in this industry where the potential for covid spread is huge.
However, overall enjoyed my stay and would return.

Don't look - just book! Waterside with a fireside

What can I say. Superb well equipped, large and spacious bedroom, the friendliest and most hospitable staff I have encountered for a long time. Amazing bathroom (with jacuzzi bath). Hotel clean and well kept throughout. Very good breakfast - limited evening menu but what we had was decent. Well equipped gym (although we didn't try it out ...... but people were using it). Very safety concious throughout the hotel. Masks very mandatory, as were disposable gloves when selecting from the buffet breakfast. There was a pool which we did not have the opportunity to try. Two night stay prior to business in Peterhead on the Monday. Would definitey stay again. Function room was set out for a party and looked really fabulous. Well stocked bar with reasonable prices. Huge and spacious large lounge seating area with open fire and deep comfy sofas and armchairs. What more can I say - Front of house and all staff just so welcoming and accommodating We will be back up in 6 months and will definitely be staying again. If you're up in Peterhead do give this hotel a whirl. It offers everything you could ask for in a hotel - and more.

Arrived early evening after a long drive. Check in easy. Bedroom clean and comfortable. Restaurant had a limited menu . Ordered Beef stew with mashed potatoes and peas which was a great choice. Arrived at the table piping hot and a decent portion. Followed up with Apple crumble and custard. Both a good choice after a long day. Breakfast was excellent with a great choice of piping hot food. Check out was a little slow because of a new starter on the desk but we all have to learn when new in a role but the young lad was pleasant and friendly so no issue with short wait. Would I stop again definately if in the area. Excellent value for money.

Have to say my stay here was for one night business trip and I’m glad it was only one night. Check in receptionist was really nice and helpful. The hotel itself is in need of updating, has the feel of a university halls of residence. Furniture in the rooms probably not updated since the 70’s. Have to give the hotel credit and say that the room was clean though and they have made efforts to ensure the rooms are sanitised etc. I had the misfortune of eating in the restaurant which was a pretty dismal experience, from being greeted by someone who didn’t even bother to say hello just “I’ll get to you in a minute”. I had a fish cake to start which was obviously frozen and then deep fried, served with a limp side salad. Burger for main course served on a dry bun with luminous yellow, half melted cheese, chips and some cold, oily onion rings. I deliberately picked the burger as I though it was something you can’t really get wrong? Breakfast was just as bad, cooked breakfast ingredients are obviously the cheapest of the cheap, sausages almost inedible. I understand that the hospitality industry is facing tough times and never usually leave negative reviews about places I stay but having staff that make you feel welcome costs nothing and a little care about the food you serve goes a long way. It’s a shame as I am in the area often for work but will ensure not to book this place again.

Worst hotel ever!

Stayed here for 3 nights while working in the area. When checking in i was notified that i was booked into room no1 and was asked by the manager if that was ok as they normally only reserved this room as an overspill for the main hotel. I was informed the room was the same as the rest of the hotel rooms so I accepted it, but soon found out it was next to the noisy maintenance rooms. The main service entrance was also next door so late that night and at 4:30am the next morning delivery trolleys were being wheeled past my room. I requested to be moved room which was sorted the next day. The second night i went for a meal at the restaurant - Lasagne was piping hot on the top and stone-cold in the middle so had clearly been microwaved and had to be returned. Wifi was that bad throughout the hotel i switched it off and used 4G. The hotel looks like it was built in 80s and has never been upgraded, carpets in corridors were also filthy and could do with a clean. Rooms were far too hot and no way of switching the heating off. Went to reception 4 times during my stay and there was never anyone there, you had to stand about as it seems reception staff also work in the restaurant and bar. When checking out they then tried to charge me for the lasagne, and when i explained that it had been returned I was told it would be free as a goodwill gesture.

Cant fault the place, a bargain in my opinion !

Nice warm welcome upon arrival, unfortunately the first room that we were put into wasn't receiving any wifi and it was rather dated. The next morning I asked to be moved to a more suitable room where I could get the wifi and get some work done, the manager was more than helpful and found us another room immediately, added bonus was that this room was much more modern too. We didn't try the food but from what I saw it looked very nice, you do have to pay for the leisure facilities but it is not a great amount.
Close enough to the town, nice stay, cannot fault the place for the price !!!
