Bad service avoid if there is a wedding on

Paid for room and expressed I was getting married in the registry office next door it was on notes and was also confirmed on check in as I requested late checkout. Breakfast was really delayed because the wedding party who were using the hotel for their wedding had taken over the hotel. At 11am on the day of departure I had a knock on the door as my photographer whip was only in my room was told due to another wedding being hosted in the hotel that I was not allowed to go out the main entrance or be seen as heaven forbid someone saw me who was attending the hotel wedding so I was made to walk down a dirty fire escape, no apology, no discussion no respect that I was getting married too and had paid over the top in Largs to be next door to my venue. Very disappointing the hotel should not have accepted this booking or had made it clear. Very unprofessional and sub standard in their customer service I would certainly not recommend.

Location: Great on the sea front at Largs and next door to the famous Nardines restaurant.

Parking: plenty of parking at hotel which is free.

Note of caution: this is a hotel designed to host weddings. So depending on your stay there might be loud music until closing time (Midnight).

Rooms: very comfortable and if you upgrade there is amazing views out to the sea. No air conditioning, but tea coffee making facilities. No fridge.

Overall. Pleasant stay, safe quite location, but as I have said if wedding function may have to tolerate music until end of function. Decent breakfast, friendly staff and location is good.

The hotel is beautiful, and really clean. Breakfast was lovely and cooked fresh. The thing that let this hotel down for me was the smoke/fire alarm in the room which was bright green with the lights off, which made sleeping difficult. They need to address this, as I wouldn't stay again because of it. It was like sleeping under a street light.

Recently refurbished very pleasant hotel , though my room was rather small . A ‘big bear ‘ of mine us these absurdly small washbasins that hotels seem to b fitting . The plugs never work & the basin is too shallow so it’s impossible to wash one’s face without standing sideways on to the basin else you vang your head on the single tap .
Shower screen too small so water splashes out into the floor saturating the bath mat , which in turn will very soon ruin the lovely flooring . Designers don’t seem to think if the actual practicalities .

That said , it was a comfortable stay .

I should have checked first if there were lifts, unfortunately none, we were on second floor we both have poor mobility it was a struggle but a member of staff did help with suitcase.
We also assumed we could get dinner but wrong again, they only do breakfast which was not great. At least there are many restaurants nearby. We found a lovely Italian one. The room was very good, but crumbs on floor at my bedside, not amused. We wouldn't go back.

Bar poorly attended, had to go looking for staff each time to buy drinks.

Great stay in Largs

Lovely hotel, looked recently refurbished and very well situated on the edge of Largs, overlooking the beach, Cumbrae and the highlands and islands in the distance. Staff were all very helpful, breakfast had a good variety of items - both hot and cold, there is a safe, private car park and the bedroom and bathroom were both spotless and comfortable. Regular bus services made for easy travelling up the west coast for the ferry services at Wemyss Bay for Bute and Gourock for Dunoon if you wanted to ditch the car. Largs itself is a pretty seaside town with plenty of eateries and Gourock is also worth a trip for its pretty seaside promenade.

Nice location, nice views, even when it rains. Property itself is rather outdated. No elevators. Access to the second floor through narrow staircase can be challenging. The first room assigned to us had no working heating, leaking roof, and mold in the bathroom. Upon complain, management moved us. However, I feel that the rather high price per room night is not justified, considering the room conditions.

Hotel looks great and our room with sea view was money well spent.
Big problem with wi-fi in hotel and any body on business trip would find it very very difficult to get any reception.
Hotel is trying to go up market but man in restaurant taking orders wearing a jumper didn't look very professional or in keeping with new look.
My dinner of smokehouse BBQ burger was tasteless and it took 20minutes for our onion rings to appear and had to remind him.
Breakfast was disaster after being seated waitress didn't return to take order and proceeded to take orders from 2 other couples ,who came in 10 minutes after us, after food arrived had to ask for our tea and coffee as it was not brought to table.
If these teething problems are ironed out it would be a fabulous hotel.
We will return to see if it has improved.

My family and I were given rooms at the back of the property which were quite noisy, due to the noise from extractor fans. As the room felt hot, even though the temperature outside was only 12 degC we had to open the window so could not shut out the noise. I think the rooms in the hotel could benefit from air conditioning especially in the summer.
There were no evening meals provided in the hotel (we were informed of this beforehand) which was disappointing. However we managed to find quite a few restaurants during our stay.
The best bit about a stay in this hotel is that it is within walking distance to most of the cafes, restaurants, railway station, the pier/ferry port, pebbly beach and the views from the front of the hotel.

We were allocated room 115 at the back of this property. The room was very small and it was excruciatingly HOT with the window only opening a fraction and did not let in any air. The outside temperature was 16 degrees over the time we stayed but the room temperature was a stifling 28 which resulted in us both unable to sleep & feeling extremely nauseaus by the morning and unable to contemplate eating any breakfast.

Hotel was spotless and was being prepared for new opening under new owners.
We stayed in a sea view executive suite which was huge with large bathroom with separate shower and big bath with jacuzzi.Tea and coffee making facilities were provided along with TV and WiFi.
At the time of our stay there was no evening meals but that was changing after grand opening. Breakfast was great with choice of hot cooked or continental, cereal,juices etc.
Staff were welcoming and helpful.
So we had a lovely stay.

No meals available (with no advance notification) except breakfast. Room a bit shabby and under furniture a lot of dust evident, someone's old spectacles etc. Pile of kirby grips on one windowsill.
Bedding clean and nice fluffy white towels, bathroom spotless.
Staff pleasant and helpful, I suspect they are under pressure to complete many tasks in too few hours...owners and management take note!

After reading a few negative reviews I was a little worried. However, my husband and I couldn’t fault the room, the food in restaurant.
Parking is free but you do need to register your car number plate in the reception lobby so they realise you are staying in the hotel. Quite straight forward or just ask and they will explain.

Our registration email from the hotel said check in was at 2pm. We were told upon arrival it had changed to 3pm so waited in the bar. When we got our key at 3pm and went upstairs the room hadnt been cleaned. When housekeeper came along she told us to wait in another room for 30mins until our room was ready. Once we got into our room the room itself was ok and clean. The bed however was very uncomfortable could feel every spring so didnt sleep well. Breakfast ok.

The hotel is good the restaurant was ok and food was adequate but not exceptional. My room was clean did have air conditioner but too small for double bed as it was meant to be single room left little space .The down side was no lift so not good for elderly or disabled or like me having a heart condition and stairs can be difficult. Very central for Largs Millport and Wemyss Bay for Rothesay. Overall pleasant stay lovely staff.

From the minute we walked I we got the impression the staff couldn’t be bothered 😕.
Small basic room which the double bed filled, small tv in a position on the wall which could hardly be viewed from anywhere in the room. Cobwebs hanging from ceiling . Noisy compressor or air conditioning unit just outside window.
Went into bar restaurant for just a drink and came out after 15 minutes because after ordering our drinks the staff completely ignored us and left us sitting at a table without a drink while they finished of their chat. We complained at reception and got hardly any reaction. The bar restaurant was not busy so there was no excuse for the wait !. Bed was hard and uncomfortable so hardly got any sleep we were so fed up we got up and left at 6am and forwent the inclusive breakfast !. Will never ever go near the premises again. Pitiful ! .

Was a good relaxing stay food was great. but downside our room was right above the wedding reception so we never got any sleep until after 2am due to the music and vibrations from this and the door to get through to the other rooms was right at our headboard so constantly banged every time someone went through it. Then got woke up early house with some sort of extractor fan turning on outside our window.
Beds could be comfier and room needs attention

Showers just hanging on to wall
Tap in sink is on backwards so when you put it to hot its cold that comes out and cold on hot comes out. Toilet floor definitely wasn’t mopped as there was loads of dust and hairs in the corners.

Think hotel guests should be situated at opposite side of hotel if there is a wedding on so they can have a good sleep

Booked hotel for a night as celebrating a big birthday was very disappointed. The hotel looked nice from outside but on arrival at our room it was small but okay sat on the bed and it creaked and there was a dip looked under the mattress and the base was broken reported it and they sorted it with a board then went for a shower but there was no hot water from the shower and no pressure in it either so went back to reception and was informed it would be looked at in the morning needless to say we asked for a refund and left the hotel

Room for improvement on the welcome

The room was very clean and comfortable, with nice white fluffy towels in the bathroom. On the downside for me:-

The receptionist was very unwelcoming. She never once smiled or acknowledged me and when I handed in my room key when checking out all she said was 'thank you'. (I would have expected someone to at least say, 'goodbye, I hope you enjoyed your stay with us, etc'. Her attitude has put me off staying there again.

Also, the cooked breakfast was very boring. All it was, was 4 different ways to have eggs, apart from full English. It would have been nicer to have more of a choice, say, kippers, porridge, Scotch pancakes, etc.

The shower in the bathroom was missing the soap dish, so although the fitting was there, there was no where to put a bar of soap. Also, the grouting at the bottom of the shower had become dark brown in colour and needed replacing.

This was my third stay at the hotel.

This is a lovely hotel in a very central position. We had a first floor sea view room which was good. Unfortunately because of social distancing to get to the ground floor you had to go up to the second floor which was a bit inconvenient.

Delay ..waiting for room ..

Delay in check in with room not ready despite being given a check in time. Twice we returned and room not ready . Room was very nice but despite v modern shower in bathroom water flow wasn't very powerful .apart from that the stay was nice .excellent location and comfortable bed however it wasn't what I would call an executive suite as described

We travelled as a couple and stayed two nights. The hotel was lovely upon entering and food and service very good. Our first impressions of the room was that it was lovely however, on closer look it was tired. We had an executive suite which was a good size and great views however, the shower didn’t work properly, toilet was wobbly, there were cracked tiles on bathroom wall and when the jacuzzi bath was put on black bits came from jets, we didn’t use. The room had a four poster bed that had mirrored posts and we had to ask for them to be cleaned due to finger prints all over them and room has a musty smell. Overall we enjoyed our stay as we love Largs but feel the cost of the room didn’t reflect good value due to the maintenance required.
