The entire experience was wonderful. From the minute we arrived till the time we left. All of the staff was very attentive and professional. Our room was very clean and quiet. The buffet breakfast is amazing. We will definitely book this hotel again if we return to Mumbai

Very Dated and needs a full on renovation. Not the cleanest of rooms. Bathroom suits are from 1990’s with cream plastic shower and taps. Water pressure is good. My shower head was blocked by dirt so someone had to come and open the shower head with screwdriver and clean the dirt out of it to unblock.
Rooms also smell a little of Damp as Bathroom was not the most ventilated of places.
The best thing was their food, very good chef and staff is nice too. I would not Stay here again, specially for the price which was about £140/night, definitely not worth that sort of price range.

I usually stay at five-stars when I’m in Mumbai, splurging a little bit while still finding a good deal online that fits within my budget. But Mumbai hotel prices have gotten out of control and this time they were unusually high at my usual spots, so I booked The Ambassador (a slightly dated 4 Star) instead — and I’m genuinely glad I did.
The location, right off Marine Drive, was perfect for me.
The room/suite was spacious, clean, and tastefully done, with a sense of quiet elegance rather than flash. The bathroom was excellent, and the shower had fantastic water pressure, which honestly makes or breaks a stay for me.
What really stood out was the classic Indian hotel vibe. The Ambassador may seem a bit dated in terms of design, but I actually like that they don’t seem to be trying to imitate a modern Western luxury brand — to me, that’s exactly its strength. Think dark wood, traditional artwork, bas-relief details, and general old-world charm. It felt nostalgic in the best way, reminding me of the heyday of 1980s and 1990s Bombay — refined, confident, and unpretentious.
Breakfast was good and satisfying — fresh, tasty, and well prepared, though the variety was a bit limited. Service throughout the hotel was warm and attentive.

One of Mumbai's longest serving hotel and it feels a little past its best. The location, for me is just about the best in the city, but the well worn feel and less than cheery staff gave it a very 3 star feel, which for the price they charge is a little disappointing.

A good hotel in good area close to Marine Drive. Rooms we clean and comfortable and a good size. It is an older hotel with a bit of charm. Just near Churchgate railway station where some tours start or end. Plenty of restaurants or cafes close by.

We stayed for 6 days , had excellent experience. Rooms are very clean , Comfortable. Front desk , lobby staff, everyone one was super nice and helpful . Room service was excellent. Very fast . You get the 5 star service. Restaurant food was tasty . I want to thank every one special Sunjay Tiwali the food and beverage manager who went back and forth to make sure we are comfortable and receive the best service . Hotel is located in the best area , 50 feet from Marine . Walking distance to many bars, coffee and restaurants.

Our stay started of good when we booked in. We then decided to extend our stay due to my once in a year special day. As soon as the recipient Suyoj realised it was my birthday, our stay went from great to super stunning. Ayesha from House arrived with flowers and Roihet decorated the room, flowers and gifts were brought. A huge cake was sent to the room. Simply stunning.

The Ambassador is a very nice hotel and we had a great stay. Their lobby is very fancy and our room had a lovely seating area as well as a marble bathroom! Bed was very comfortable. It's a little bit far from the area that we wanted to visit like Fort and gateway to India but otherwise it is a perfect hotel.

I booked this hotel for a couple of days to spend with my parents in Mumbai. The staff were so lovely leaving us with such good memories of our few days in Mumbai. They were super helpful, very polite and dealt with any queries as soon as possible. They also made a cake and decorated the room with balloons for my mother’s birthday when I asked them for just a little something. They made a whole cake! Thank you once again to all the staff, and the desk staff! You all really made our stay nice and easy and very memorable. The only meal we had at the hotel was the buffet breakfast, and again the selection on offer each day was delicious. The chef also memorised my omelette order after the 1st day and would make it for me each morning. The staff would regularly refill out teas/coffees as and when we wanted. I’ve stayed at many hotels and the service received at the Ambassador has truly been one of the best I’ve experienced.

They were painting the hall walls outside our room in the evening and night instead of daytime only. Paint smell and constant noise outside our room was not desirable. Will probably pick a different hotel next time, if rooms are available. If not, I can stay here again.

The Ambassador is a outstanding hotel in almost every way except the front desk staff could be a bit more pleasant and make the guests feel more welcome. This is the only hotel i stay at when i travel to Mumbai and think that restaurant staff , food quality ,room service ,housekeeping and general staff go far beyond expectations but front desk made me feel a bit unwelcome especially after staying here on multiple occasions. I will be returning in April and hopefully this very small issue will be a misunderstanding and the room service most certainly made up for this issue. The service provided by Mahendra was exceptional and food and beverages were delivered with a positive and happy smile. Keep up the great work.

Great location, close to many good restaurants, Mumbai cricket club, Churchgate station and an easy walk to Gateway to India. Rooms were clean, but the decor was very dated. The outside of the property looks quite run down.

The ambassador is a shadow of itself. In an area that’s thriving for business and leisure travel - it’s a right priced and sized hotel if you don’t want to stay at one of the luxury brands Nextdoor - but they need to define their space and not compromise on the basics that are non negotiable and locally not expensive - the in house cafe food was poor, cleanliness in bathroom was average - quality of linen was very poor. Proximity to marine drive where one can enjoy outdoors is a major plus and they just need refocus and some $$ upgrades

Door staff were great, front deck staff were good, coffee shop/breakfast lounge staff require training and could not cope with number of visitors. Windows urgently require double glazing, trying to sleep was a nightmare with the sounds of so many drivers constantly beeping their horns.

I recently stayed on the 8th floor facing the street with views of the street,sea.
Windows urgently require double glazing, trying to sleep was a nightmare with the sounds of so many drivers constantly beeping their horns.

Chose the hotel as it was the only 4-star in the neighborhood. The older hotel's glory was definitely faded. Front desk staff very unfriendly. Breakfast café and room staff fine. Many infrastructure fails: room lights hard to work and understand; had to move rooms due to no electricity when we returned after a day out; secure Wi-Fi disappeared after the first evening - leaving us stuck to do our city research. Renovation was not mentioned and banging started next door (!) at 10AM. Rooms were not that clean or appealing. On and on. Had to elevate complaints to the hotel manager - who took action swiftly. But getting to him and past surly front desk staff was just a drag.

The hotel is located in a beautiful part of Mumbai. The hotel had an old world charm to it. However some maintenance is required. For instance the door frames were a little chipped. The bathtub in my room was cracked and broken. Water would stagnate in the tub while showering. These maintenance issues need to be addressed. Don’t expect a great view if you stay on the lower floors.

The room was extremely small, the size of a match box. I have stayed in much bigger rooms than this in the tariff charged. Its an old hotel so all the fittings and furniture are old and disappointing. The washroom was old fashioned. On top of that, the hotel charged me for two people whereas i had stayed alone. No amount of reasoning could make the person at the front desk understand that the room was for single occupancy.

Awful beds-did not sleep all night.
This hotel has the worst and most uncomfortable beds. I was surprised to see other reviewers liked these beds. I could hardly sleep all night. Hotel is in good location though. Other than that, nothing great about this place for the price. I would not stay again.

Historic and old-school fancy, it has an appeal. But considering the rates, the building could use a little bit of upgrades. Shower spray was really erratic and unpleasant, for example. Outlets had too many things plugged into them and were hard to reach. I think some didn't work. Some staff seemed to be expecting tips every time they moved your bag from one inch to another when checking in/out. I was also a bit soured that they wouldn't offer the 50% rate for checking out before 6pm because I booked though a third-party (hotels.com). They claimed that because they were fully booked, they couldn't offer refunds. But I didn't have to tell them I was checking out, I could have just left and they wouldn't have been able to fill that room, so if anything I was helping them out and they should have upheld the policy regardless of how I booked. They also wouldn't provide a receipt since I booked on hotels.com.
Overall it was fine but definitely look at other options in the area- I unfortunately can't compare it with any others neaby, but I also stayed at a big international hotel Westin Garden City in Guragon (which is not a good location if your primary purpose is tourism or sightseeing) but that hotel is among the highest standard hotels in the world and per night rate is not that much higher than it is at this hotel.

We loved our stay at this luxuries hotel. The reception staff were polite and professional. Mr. Pinge, the manager dealt with an issue we had in a professional manner and he went out of his way to sort it out. The porter Mr. Khan who has been working at this hotel for more than 25 years, was also considerate and polite. We felt safe and enjoyed our mini family break immensely.
The room service was exceptionally good. They patiently dealt with every request about replenishing the items in our room.
The breakfast had a delicious spread. If you love Indian food, especially south Indian food, then you should certainly give it a go. There was abundant choice from Indian to continental including authentic fluffly idlis (steamed rice cakes), sambar (medium spicy dal curry), 4 types of chutneys, puri, aloo bhaaji, porridge, chicken sausages, waffles, omelettes, ham, cakes, variety of cheeses etc to cater for every palette. Tea was served at the table.
The location is extremely good too. Sea is just 2 minutes walk on the right of the hotel. You can buy a variety of clothes from Asiatic department store which is located opposite the hotel at the left, 5 minutes walk. Baskin Robin's ice-cream shop is just on the right of the hotel.
