There’s no sound proofing because it’s an old historic building. the exposed air ducts carry voices from hall and adjacent rooms.The suites are designed poorly. You have to walk through the master bedroom past the bed to get to the bathroom from the other bedroom. The whole place smells like burnt popcorn from the movie theater. And the front desk isn’t open at night. The sheets were clean. The shower was clean. The ceiling has exposed insulation. These are very outdated rooms. The windows are all pretty broken. One window had BB gun holes in it! Super convenient to downtown though.

Parking was convenient if you can grab a spot (it is first come) everything I wanted to do during my stay was in walking distance from property so that was nice! Adding on the $30 value that gets you $25 applied to local restaurants near by and $5 includes a movie theatre ticket and a large popcorn + large drink! Truly a no brainer to add on to your stay.

If you love retro/vintage/history/ quiet and pet friendly this place is wonderful for a short stay and lowkey weekend. So many cool local businesses and delicious food. We went for a show at the stone church- walking distance from hotel! And everything we could have needed was easily accessible. They have a bar downstairs and a movie theatre in the hotel! All rooms have record players and vinyls to play with more available. Big rooms. “Dated” but it’s keeping with the retro style- very clean and neat. Only negatives were the parking lot (really small but we got a spot! There’s plenty of on street parking and a nearby parking garage as well). Staff was so friendly and helpful!
This would be a great “staycation” or mom night away as well. Stop at some of the amazing thrift/vintage/2nd hand stores for books, music, clothes and more. If you’re a crafter, Bobbins’and Skeins and Beadnik are great places to take a look at. I’d definitely come back!

The hotel is charming. The location is great. The building is funky, given it's age and need for repair. The staff are friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. The theater located in the same building is a one of a kind attraction. It was a plus for us that the hotel is owned and run by a nonprofit.

Latchis Hotel has great character and a great location in downtown Brattleboro. It’s about 40 minutes from Mt. Snow and 50 to Okemo so a good base for us since we planned to ski both.

Our room was clean, linens all perfectly fresh. Room was spatious enough for our family of four, comparable to the room sizes in the chain hotels. Padded benches at the foot of each bed were nice looking and very handy. Decor is funky - our room had a record player and some vinyl, rose red walls, older plumbing fixtures in the bathroom but all spotless and functional. We liked the personality of the place.

The proprietors were helpful, friendly and kept in touch with us regarding our late arrival.

Big plus is being in Brattleboro, which has some fine places to eat, several a few minutes walk from the hotel. Latchis also has a movie theater (full size, real deal) and bar of its own.

All in all an affordable, easy to like place to stay.

I reserved a room with a king bed (and paid extra for it at the time of reservation), but at check in, I was informed that the room was not available because the room key was lost. They “upgraded” me to another room that had a queen bed and another room with two small twin beds. It was not what I wanted but since we had prepaid, I felt stuck. The room was in bad condition. The windows didn’t stay closed (not great for winter in Vermont), the carpet was pretty dirty, and the overall decor reminded me of some Stanley Kubrick movie about a family stuck in a hotel during winter. That said, there was some vintage charm as the hotel was attached to an old movie theater and was in a great location across from the coop grocery store.

Whenever we need to stay in Brattleboro, we choose to stay at the Latchis. It’s an excellently preserved building with a great experience. The room was clean, well equipped and quiet. This time we purchased a “taste of Vermont” add on, and it was great. Delicious local cheese and crackers, chocolate and cider, a cherry wood cutting board and a small bottle of maple syrup in a beautiful presentation basket. All in all, this was an excellent trip.

This is a charming historic hotel in a small but lively downtown district. I absolutely loved everything about it, from the historical backstory to the somewhat retro decor (but it has all the modern conveniences, too -- wifi, lots of outlets, etc.). I was especially impressed by the warm, welcoming staff. I'd stay here again anytime.

Convenient to the Latchis Theatre, however the downtown area around the hotel has many vacant storefronts, so not really many things to do close by. We didnt feel safe going out after dark. Perhaps those are just first impressions of an out of towner, who with time could have grown to find it quaint. The staff was friendly at both the hotel and the restaurant we found a couple of blocks away.

The property was located in a great area with plenty of restaurants and shops within walking distance. The lady at the counter, VIKKI, was great. Too bad she had to leave during our stay.The hotel is deemed historic… However, there are a lack of basic amenities in room 317 anyway. No outlets in the bathroom no air-conditioning in the room as it’s controlled by a central thermostat martialed by the GM. It was hot and stuffy, and I was told to open the windows which had no screens, so insects and birds could fly in. Also, the restaurant that is located in the complex was closed due to not enough employees able to work. This put a damper on late night cocktails.

It was an enjoyable get away, especially seeing a movie in the old theater. Also, being able to listen to Edward Howard on the record player in the room was a very unique experience and it created a “back in time” atmosphere !
However, fresh coffee, and some muffins or bagels in the morning would be a great addition to this funky little hotel 😃

The staff who checked us in was great! And the room was okay, the carpet needed swept. The outside area, meaning the people, drug addicts and homeless people were not what we were expecting to see. We thought we were in New Ken, Philly. There was a female bent over due to being so high on whatever she injected. We left and drove home, we didn't want our vehicle destroyed with all our things in it. It's a shame that a historical town and hotel are overshadowed by what we had seen.

The hotel is old. It is clean, but very dated and worn. I like what they are trying to do, but the probably don’t have the money to really spruce it up. The bathroom was spotless and has new tub tile work. I liked the antique light and medicine cabinet. There are no outlets in the bathroom and only a few in the room. The record player and albums are a cute idea. The th is small with all basic channels, no streaming here. The staff was very nice. Overall a fine stay for one night.

Free coffee was the only amenity I took advantage of and it was just k-cups. Beds were comfortable. Street noise was loud as we stayed in a room right above the main road. People yelling late at night.
No parking spots were ever open in the hotel lot so we had to park in an adjacent lot which was only free from 6pm-9am (we got citations at 9:16am) so we had to make sure to leave by 9am each day. In the adjacent lot, there people hanging out drunk, high and screaming obscenities at each other even at 9:30pm. I wouldn’t recommend this for families unfortunately as it does not feel safe after dark. My 9yr old daughter was scared and we didn’t walk back from the car unless my husband was with us. It’s no fault of their own, but the homelessness in the area is an issue. The hotel could get better reviews if they cleaned up the area a bit and took over that adjacent lot. Keeping that lot cleaner and free of people hanging out at night would bring in more business.

The room was ok. The a/c was too cold and was unable to control because the vent was too high up on the wall to reach. Cleaning the room had to be arranged at a certain period of time. Its location was central to Brattleboro right near the Brattleboro art museum and some restaurants. However a lot of the business center moved north because a lot of the businesses closed down.

We have stayed at The Latchis a few times now and it is always a nice place to stay, from the friendly helpful staff to the clean room and amenities. The room we stayed in this time was one we have previously stayed in and it was recently updated with new furniture and it was nice. The location is convenient and very walkable to stores and restaurants in the downtown area. We will definitely be returning to stay at The Latchis again.

I appreciate the idea of a kitschy hotel attached to a theater, but the rooms are soo outdated and in desperate need of upgrades. You can’t control the A/C so the temperature on a hot summer day never got below 73 in the room, so they give you a fan. No streaming channels. Furniture ripped and stained. Bathroom is extremely old. It was hard to even reach where you flush the old-school toilet. Our TV didn’t work so we waited a couple of hours for them to send someone to fix it. We checked out a day early due to the hotel not meeting our standards. There is not a coffee maker in your room or coffee nearby. I do not recommend this hotel unless they do some major upgrades. Or at least touch-up paint. And for some reason, any piece of artwork that was in the room was removed and only the hooks remained. Bizarre place charging premium for very old & dingy rooms.

It was a nice treat to find a room in a renovated Southern Vermont hotel. Brattleboro has not had an easy time, and it has a marvelous past concealed by a slightly downscale present.

This property, an old deco building and is in a great location for exploring downtown Brattleboro. The rooms themselves vary from pretty nice to quite dark and unwelcoming, the latter being those that face an air shaft instead of a proper exterior view. The staff are incredibly helpful and were able to get us upgraded to an outside room when we raised concerns about being in an air shaft room. The cleaning staff is extremely friendly and this is a pet friendly hotel and they were all very warm to our dog.

The homeless people behind the hotel where you park are so many that the staff treats the guests as they are homeless!! No hospitality whatsoever! A total and complete cash grab! The room smelled like dust and mildew. My daughter had an asthma attack after being in the room for five minutes. It felt creepy with old decor, bed looked like it came from a pullout couch.
Had to park in a lot away from hotel, didn’t feel safe. The same random people were standing in the same area from the time we parked until we left.

The Latchis Hotel was amazing. There is so much history within the walls and the decor. Not to mention the pictures of the hotel back in 1939. As well as the theater being built. Being right in downtown was great. There was plenty of dining as well as different stores for everyone. I will most definitely be back.

While there were more historic amenities that remained in place and made it unique, there were still several current amenities as well including a fridge, microwave and plenty of outlets including usb outlets. The location was close to restaurants and things to see and do. The only downside I had read about in a previous review is the road traffic when facing the mountain/street is more than I expected over night. Everything else was great….even enjoyed a show in the theater.
