This place was our favorite on our trip to Thailand. It was a quiet place to catch our breath after the hustle and bustle of Bangkok and Chang Mai. The staff are all sweet and welcoming, the rooms are beautiful, the property itself is stunning. The pool is amazing. Yoga and stretching classes are available daily, and there are three different restaurants to choose from. PS There is an easy beach to get to next to the property, as well as a small beach on the property, but other than that, this place is very remote, which is what we needed for a few days, but keep that in mind. Very remote.

- The wooden effect of the rooms and the hotel generally creates quite a gloomy effect. The rooms generally just felt a bit dated
- The beach is not ideal for swimming in. Short beach and rocky.
- We had a very disappointing lunch at by the sea - two mediocre club sandwiches. Generally the food selection pretty poor.
- The hotel offers a WhatsApp service to communicate with them. It’s a bit of a waste of time because they take ages to respond (at least 20-30 mins was standard) and they would also read messages and not respond? The phone in our room didn’t work so we were forced to communicate with them this way. We ended up always walking from our rooms for this reason even though the hotel offers a buggy transport service.
- The direct boat transfer from the hotel to and from Samui appears to be a lie. It was not particularly windy when we were staying yet adverse winds was stated as the reason as to why no boat transfer occurred during the time of our stay. Instead you need to cross the island on a van and take a boat to and from Samui from the south coast of Ko Phangan. This is of course fine but the transfer is not advertised in this way. We did however see a boat transfer happen at one of the neighbouring hotels in the village, so the wind didn’t seem to be a problem for other neighbouring hotels. The pier at the hotel seems to be in bad repair.
- The hotel advise you allow 30-60 minutes to check out which seems a bizarrely long length of time.

We have travelled extensively, and this is by far one of the nicest resorts we have ever been to. We had an ocean view room that was extremely spacious. The bathroom was huge. And the view was absolutely spectacular. The service at this resort is second to none. Though many of the staff speak very broken English, they try very hard to understand and accommodate your every need. We absolutely adored them. The breakfast was the best we had in Thailand just a massive selection and so fresh. One of our favourite activities was at the restaurant beds overlooking the ocean. Just enjoying a beer and Thai meal in the evening was perfection. The lounge chairs by the beach were quiet and peaceful. And the pool is stunning. Unfortunately, while we were there, there was an obnoxiously loud group of adults that basically took over the pool area, smoking and yelling at one another across the pool while we were there. It pretty much chased everyone out out of the pool area because they were so annoying. The staff would kindly ask them to stop smoking and they would just go and do it anyway. Not a big deal though as everyone just found other beautiful spots to hang out. The bathrooms are open air. At least the one we were in was- expect a few bits of nature appearing on the floors - leaves and such. It was an easy trade-off though because the open air shower it was divine. Also, if you are a light sleeper, make sure you have your plugs. The birds are up early! Also, the gym was great.

What stood out to us most was how accommodating and genuinely friendly the entire hotel staff was. The resort itself is absolutely beautiful. We had a small hiccup before our trip, and the team went above and beyond to take care of us, even upgrading us to the suite we hoped for with a full panoramic sea view. It was stunning. Our private sea-view villa was decorated for our honeymoon, and the general manager even left us a thoughtful note, which made it feel extra special.

The peaceful atmosphere was exactly what we wanted for a honeymoon escape. The views were breathtaking, and the daily breakfast buffet was fantastic, with everything from omelets and fresh fruit to soups, curries, and rice noodles that changed each day.

If you’re looking for a relaxing getaway away from the chaos of the Full Moon Party and crowded tourist areas, this is the perfect place. It’s about a 20-minute drive to the main night markets, but well worth the trip. We rented a moped and visited Mae Haad Beach for snorkeling.

The hotel made getting around easy whenever we needed a ride to the main gate, someone arrived within 10 minutes. You can also walk to the closest town along the beach from the main pool; just ask the staff and they’ll point you in the right direction.

Our stay at Santhiya was amazing! The food was great, especially the breakfast buffet. The staff are kind and accommodating and they always have plenty of workers to assist you. They are all kind and helpful. The only feedback I would give is that the check in process was a bit overwhelming when we all arrived at the same time- it felt a bit disorganized.
Nevertheless, I would 100% stay at this resort again! We were sad to leave.

We had a rather disappointing stay at this hotel. From the moment we entered our (upgraded) room, we heard constant talking noises coming from an unclear source. After some checking, we discovered there was a staff room located directly beneath ours, which made the stay quite unpleasant.

When we contacted the staff, they initially told us this couldn’t be the case. Only after insisting did they admit there might indeed be such a room and said they would check. They offered to move us to another room, but it was of lower quality than the one we had booked, and overall it felt like they weren’t really trying to make us feel comfortable.

The rooms themselves are nicely designed, but not very practical or comfortable. Because of the rain, the bathroom got wet and dirty easily. At the end of our second day, we found that our room hadn’t been cleaned at all, which made us decide to leave the hotel early.

The hotel restaurant wasn’t great either, though the service there was nice — we preferred eating outside instead. The hotel shuttle service was also quite poor and disorganized.

On the positive side, the pool area and the beach were pleasant.

Smukt hotel med en god stemning. Fantastisk udsigt fra \"Ocean view\" værelser ved saltvands poolen. En smule slidte værelser. Virkelig høj service. Lidt isoleret hotel. Perfekt til afslapning og at komme helt ned i gear. Vil vil klart anbefale dette hotel. Det er en meget god oplevelse. Maden er en lille smule kedelig, men 5 minutter i taxa ligger en lille by med restauranter, 7/11 og massage. Priserne er meget høje på hotellet. Men fair, det er det hele værd.

Zero Thai hospitality- very disappointing stay

We were really looking forward to our stay at Santhiya Koh Phangan, but unfortunately the experience fell far short of expectations. The biggest disappointment was the customer service, which lacked the warm Thai hospitality we’ve come to know and love throughout our travels in Thailand. Staff often felt indifferent, unhelpful, and at times even dismissive, which left us feeling unwelcome rather than relaxed.

The property itself has potential, but the service overshadowed any positives. Small issues quickly turned into big frustrations because of the lack of attentiveness and care from the team. At this level of resort, we expected friendly, proactive service that made us feel taken care of, but instead we left feeling let down.

Example 1 & 2
- attempting to organize a ferry terminal pickup was a nightmare, after contacting them 3 days in advanced, it was 30 min prior to boarding my ferry to the island that they said they could not pick us up. Handle to scramble to an atm to get cash to pay for a taxi. Same issue on return trip only confirming night before.

Resort is massive so you need to call tuktuks, felt like we were inconveniencing staff.

Checkout took 15+ min

Breakfast food for price we paid was so average and even restaurant food (lunch and dinner were average)

Our family really were looking forward to our stay but this resort needs a big wake up call.

Beautiful location. Villa with private pool was spectacular with a fabulous view. The main pool was also lovely. The resort is showing signs of wear, some attention needed to maintenance. A few things were not functioning in our room, they were quickly set right -but the suite was clearly not thoroughly checked. The resort tried to nickel and dime us for every little thing though. (Charging us £50 for a \"late\" check out of only an extra two hours seemed extortionate given occupancy so low and the length and cost of our stay). The management team in reception are not empowered to be flexible it seems. The cost of their excursions, food and transport options were also really high compared to what you will find a short walk down the beach. The food quality was not that great either. We ate outside the resort most of the time. Overall, beautiful place with very friendly staff. Just eat in the town / on the beach and use local options for excursions and transport.

I stayed in one of its villa. I like the traditional Thai decor style of the resort. The overall experience feels authentic and natural, although maybe not most fashionable. I also enjoyed the free Muey Thai class offered. However, I find service / communication often not very smooth. Although given a WhatsApp number, it is rarely checked by the staffs, nor receive in-time response. Some requests, like ferry booking detail, often need to be re-confirmed several times to get it right. Rules are often quite inflexible, that makes the trip less enjoyable. For example, if your flight is delayed, there's no way you can leave your luggage in their ferry port for too long --- and no alternative solution is provided.

Beautiful property. Really unique and special. The buggies around the property are really efficient so being on the hill is not an issue - just amazing views.
Staff in restaurants are amazing and food options are good value and delicious.

Staff in reception not very good. You do not feel there is anyone in charge. Check in process is poor. Rooms are dark. Beach not as nice as many on the island.

Lovely property with great staff. The rooms are gorgeous, traditional design. The only negatives being some of the rotting woodwork, such as the sunbed boats, and railing round the main restaurant. Whilst there has been a general lack of upkeep there, Santhiya is still a lovely property for peace and quiet and id recommend it !

Great place to stay if you want a relaxing holiday to chill out and do very little.
We did have a laugh at the old school music playlist that was on repeat so we did nearly know what song was next by the end of the week.
Breakfast was great! Great variety. Staff were so lovely and friendly.
Very responsive on WhatsApp for anything we needed.
The food ordering system in restaurants and in the room via qr codes was great.
Small beach which wasn’t the best to sunbathe on if you wanted to lie on the sand but over a bit of rockery you could access the larger beach beside it with access to a wider variety of cafes and restaurants.

We stayed at this beautiful hotel for 4 nights and enjoyed every second of it. We had a private pool in our room but also used the wonderful pool area by the sea.
Compliments to the chef and her staff for good food and fun experience during the cooking class.

This hotel is one of the best ones I have stayed at and would warmly recommend it to everyone.

Worst place ever

This place is just awful. It’s an absolute joke. Do not be fooled by their beautiful grounds and their “5-star” claim. This hotel is a scam. First off, the resort is very far from town and you have to take a taxi to-and-from (which shouldn’t be a problem). We had to pay at the front desk for a taxi and they were quick to immediately mention we had to pay the taxi driver upon arrival as well. Paying double for a taxi? To top it off, the taxi NEVER showed up. We waited at the front gate for over an hour and nobody came to pick us up. By that time, all the restaurants were closed. The bathtub in our room had brown water flowing out of it.. we were told by the hotel staff that the water was “unsanitary” and “unsafe”. That is completely unacceptable and is a health hazard. Their beds are hard as rock and it’s as if you’re sleeping on the ground. We were unable to use their pool towels after 6 pm and were told there’s no exception to this rule. Seriously? Guests who pay money to stay at the resort can’t borrow a towel? They did not compensate us for any of these inconveniences. The hotel staff is by far some of the most rude people I’ve ever interacted with and the language barrier is horrible. Do yourself a favor and take your business elsewhere.

Please, please make sure you do your research in other hotels in area first. We paid for a pool suite and it no where near reflected the cost we paid. Staff were rude, cold - app didn't work to book anything. We were directed to self serve upon arrival for a \"welcome drink\" and given a cloth in a plastic bag and told to check ourselves in. Truly couldn't believe the quality provided vs paid. Much nicer hotels in the area despite the grounds being beautiful

I am blown away by the beauty and services I received at this resort. It is genuinely the most beautiful place I’ve ever stayed, and everything I’d hoped for when I booked it. Remote. Jungly. Private. The grounds are stunning and service was impeccable. I got the best massage of my life here - the masseuse actually brushed my hair at the end which blew me away. We rented a villa with a large, private pool and could not have been more happy with our choice. Would highly recommend!!!!! Thank you for making our anniversary unforgettable!!

Good value hotel. Room was very clean and comfortable. The outside bathroom and bath were difficult to keep clean from leaves and birds. Our room was near the cleaners station and they started getting everything out at 6.30am which woke us up,
Very wide choice at breakfast which was good , also very busy. There are other restaurants along the beach which are nice to visit and a change from staying in the hotel. Overall our stay was good but parts of the hotel and area are showing signs of age.

Not 5 star resort - very dated and inaccessible.

This is not a 5 star resort by any stretch of imagination. Unkempt grounds, dark and gloomy room, old furnishings, beach towels as thin as tea towels and the size of napkins. Once at the resort you can access nearby village by precariously crossing rocks to next beach. Taxi back at night is 300bht. So many steep steps to and from the pool and rooms, so much so they offer little converted vans to pick up and drop off throughout resort. Needless to say we will not be returning.

This was our 2nd time at Santhiya and we enjoyed it as much as previously. The only way to get there is by speed boat which runs twice a day, so it is nice and quiet. The room was large, comfortable and had a small plunge pool on the balcony with a view out over the sea. The restaurant was good, overlooking the bay and a good buffet breakfast was available. We walked into the nearby village for evening meals most evenings and went to several different restaurants, all with good food. The swimming pool is lovely, with a waterfall during the day and the sea is just a few steps away, so you have a choice! Unfortunately, the sea was quite cloudy while we were there but a lovely temperature! There are snorkling and diving trips to do in the neaby national marine park if you want to see the corals and fish which abound there.
The only \"downside\" is that the beautiful hillside setting means that everything is on a hill and if you find walking uphill a problem, it would be worth asking for a room near reception. There is a \"wooden taxi\" that runs 24 hours to take you up and down, but there is a wait sometimes! The only way to the swimming pool is down quite a few steps so again, worth thinking about a villa or room with a pool!

Loved it! Beautiful property with a very unique feel. High-end jungle retreat with fabulous Thai style villas. Villas were beautifully appointed and every little detail was thought of. Property was extremely unique and well manicured. Pool was fab and had a beautiful private beach. Little tug tug trucks transported you all around the property. Food was excellent and well priced. Loved everything about this place except check-in and check-out was a little lengthy and annoying. No big deal though. I would go back. It was a highlight of my stay in Thailand.

We stayed in two different villas during our 5 day stay. The first was the Junior villa with pool and o have to say, on arrival we were terribly disappointed. The villa itself was great but the view was on to our neighbours broken semi repaired roof. However, on a sea view villa becoming available 3 days later..my goodness! I don’t think we’ve stayed anywhere as spectacular. Both villas were so beautifully crafted and Thai in feel but that view! Shane it wasn’t what we ordered on arrival.
The resort itself is lovely. The staff ever so attentive and walking distance to the village. I think my only suggestion would be that the two separate restaurants on the property, should serve different menus. It would also be great if the hotel organised the excursions it advertises.
But…I would say they are minor details when staying in the secure villa with that view and our private pool! Highly recommend.

Beautiful hotel located on a cliff with a nice private beach and amazing two pools, one on the beach and another one up on the hill (recommended for swimmers!).
Breakfast is excellent, the service in from the hotel staff is even better :-)
The hotel is 10 minutes walk from the village, except the exit from the hotel which is dark at night and requires a little climbing the walk is easy.
The hotel rooms are old, but well maintained in most cases

Overall, this property was lovely and beautiful. But it was hard to leave the property without having a car or motor bike rented for my stay. Even to get to the very close small village, it was very difficult to get a taxi service and when I did, it was very expensive.

This is not a 5 stars hotel, not even 5 stars hostel. I will try to summarize it as much as possible, because we had a very bad experience.
We booked the vacation with a baby, no sign was shown that the hotel didn’t suit for a baby - all on the mountains with a lot of stairs. No access to the main village, only from the beach and the sand, not trivial with a stroller.
We stayed because we still had a good memory from Santhiya Koh Chang from 3 years ago. We took a room with a private pool - in practice the building was deserted, dirty and distant from the main area. We added more money to change room and we got an “upgrade” to a villa, which in practice was very old and in bad condition: full of ants, dirty, neglected with broken facilities, aka I felt like I’m coming to camping instead of relaxing. We stayed there because we didn’t want to complain anymore.
About the hotel itself - it looks like they haven’t recovered from covid yet. The hotel area is huge and they are absolutely understaffed. There was no gym, only a small and broken room that you had to book ahead. The pool was super dirty and disgusting during rain situations.
At the last night we cane back to the room and found out that it was full of flying insects all over the place - the toilet and the sheets. Immediately we demanded to move, and then we had to pack again and move to another villa, which was way better. It just clarified us that the hotel gives very bad and neglected rooms to customers with a very hig

I have stayed at the Santhiya on Koh Yao Yai and i expected this one to be on par, however this was not the case. This hotel is needing many renovations and repairs. I realize COVID has been hard on everyone but this hotel is not up to the 5 star rating. The grounds are beautiful but need to be cut back and cleaned up. The redort is built on the side of a cliff meaning there are deep steps up and down everywhere, making it tiring just to go to the bathroom when your at the pool.
Overall the quality of the hotel is lacking for the price.

I was disappointed in this property and checked out after 1 night instead of 3 as had originally planned. Orbitz lists this as a 5 star hotel, but there’s no way. It wasn’t clean. The beach was rocky and you have to climb through an area of boulders , jungle and then beach just to get to the village (or the soft sand area of the beach) . It wasn’t safe really in flip flops. Also the rooms - it’s a bedroom, then you have to go outdoors to the bathroom and the living room area. They’re in different structures. Which was uncomfortable at night and the privacy for the bathroom was lacking since it was open. The bedroom itself was so small it was difficult to open 2 suitcases. I did think all the woodwork was beautiful. You can find significantly better hotel options for the same price or less.

This property was amazing! Only one thing that stopped me from giving it a 5 star which I will address later.

The website pictures did not disappoint and do not do the property justice. Traditional Thai style carved wood and stone designs throughout. The room had a pleasant aroma of citronella and we had zero issues with mosquitoes in room or on balcony/private pool area.

Please consider having a separate area or floor for Adults Only. My wife and I were celebrating our honeymoon in one of the \"Pool Suite Sea View\" rooms. Even though out of neigboring room's view, on both sides were families with kids being loud and splashing/jumping in their private pool areas. Kids are going to be kids, I get it, but it did put a damper on a 'romantic getaway' for us. Not to mention we were very self conscious of what 'if' they were to hear us as well. Maybe consider allowing the \"Deluxe Pool Access\" or private villas to only allow kids?

This property is way bigger than it seems. Everything is spread out and incline/decline hills as it's built into mountain side. That being said, it is not necessarily easy to leave your room and walk to the lobby, restaurant or beach etc. You have to call desk for a ride. Also, it is about 45 minutes up in the mountains away from Koh PhaNagan ferry area & main city resort/hotel zones. The resort is secluded but there is a very small village about 10 min walk away. So if you're trying to see the whole island, this is not the place to stay.

The woman that takes us to our room didn’t know which room we are. She let us walking 20 minutes. At the lobby there is no water. Also in the room. No free welcoming drinks as promise. The smell is very dirty. I didn’t stay there even one night. The most nightmare I ever had. I want to get my refund

Lovely resort that is much bigger than expected. Private beach area, 2 huge and lovely pool areas and loads of activities on offer. You can easily stay on the resort the whole time or can venture down the beach to some other restaurants etc. We had a Sea View Pool Villa and it was worth every penny with epic views and a huge private pool. The only warning to anyone getting a villa is that the bathroom areas are outside. While it is a lovely idea (being able to shower and bathe under the stars), the reality is that it is a total mosquito haven which means you get attacked and bitten every time you want to go to the toilet or brush your teeth. Not ideal! The other watch out is that while it is a lovely resort, it is pricey! Food, drink and the spa is very very overpriced in comparison the the rest of thailand and doesn’t represent great value for money. We were paying more for a pizza and a couple of cokes than we would in the UK and it wasn’t as good.

The staff were very nice. Whilst the rooms are very lovely and really well designed you have to ring for a car to take you from your room to all the communal areas. The whole resort is very spread out and not walkable. If you are looking for a beach holiday then I would say this hotel is not for you.
As we were looking for a beach holiday we actually decided to check out and relocate to a hotel on the beach

Santhiya brand of home grown hotels is as authentic a Thai stay as you can find. The hotels are made sustainably in teak wood and carvings everywhere. The staff are incredibly friendly and smiley, and u like other hotels in Thailand here everyone speaks perfect english. The pool villa was very comfortable and private with its own jacuzzi outdoor shower and bathtub.

I have traveled all over the world and have stayed at hotels ranging from 3 to 5 star. I was disappointed with this resort being it was a 5 star and we spent a ton of money (especially compared to generally low prices in Thailand).
PROS: we splurged for the highest room, sea view pool villa plus. view was amazing with private infinity pool overlooking the sea. The staff were generally helpful.
CONS: resort needs updating, things are beginning to look run down. BEWARE the entire bathroom is OUTDOORS. I did not know this when booking and was not happy to find out. Who wants an outdoor bathroom in the middle of tropical forest where it is hot, humid and buggy? We had to deal with all kinds of creatures in our bathroom ranging from mosquitoes, swarms of ants, millipedes, and lizards. I refused to use the bathroom at night because of this. there were tons of bugs inside the room as well. When I got to my next destination and opened my luggage, it was infested with ants.
Food was terrible. Im vegan, and they did not understand or have decent options. Even my husband who is not vegan thought the food was subpar. We walked over to the Anantara hotel where the food was 100x better.
Resort needs more efficient management and staff. A lot of inexperienced staff, not acceptable for 5 star.
Their private beach is terrible, extremely rocky. Need to walk to the public beach next door, so why even spend the premium to stay here if you need to leave the resort for a decent beach?
