Closet concept in the room is awful. A bat came into our bathroom closet area while we were bathing at 2pm.
Close off the entrance points to keep critters out please! A gecko with half a tail fell on us in the toilet area.

The spa and spa staff are amazing!!! Can’t recommend it enough.
The only downside to this hotel is the hygiene and slightly dated pool surroundings.
The hygiene around the breakfast buffet area could be a lot better, ie, food covered up to prevent the horrendous amount of flies going on food and plates, really was off putting.
Could be managed better to prevent illness.
Overall wonderful stay.

Perhaps it's the best resort I've ever been

This resort is located towards the north of the island. It is accessible either by a curvy road which takes around 30 minutes from Tong Sala, the main town or directly by speedboat from Koh Samui. The resort is simply the paradise and is in harmony with the flora and fauna of the island. The staff from the reception, to the bistro and from the house keeping crew to the massage therapists were nice and lovely. The breakfast was tasty and delicious. There's a lot of variety of meals and drinks suitable for every taste. I upgraded to an ocean view suite with a private pool which was stunning and impressively amazing. The spa is beautiful and the massages were excellent. The room is spacious modern with all the amenities needed. You can request a different type of pillow or anything else that is suitable to your needs. For sure it's not a cheap place to stay but it's worth it to spoil or pamper yourself at least once in your lifetime by enjoying some massages or take a swim in the private pool or into the crystal waters of the beach or simply enjoying the charming beach with the views while having your morning coffee. If you're looking for the paradise and enjoy a relaxing holiday this is the right place. I wish I could stay there forever. This resort and Koh Phangan are simply pure love! If I have a chance I would love to come back and be pleased to do so.

Anniversary stay, amazing!

We had a fabulous four nights stay, didn't want to leave. Beautiful property with outstanding service. Everything was first rate, spacious rooms, comfortable beds, large pool with an adults only section, gorgeous beach with plenty of chairs, nearby village is steps away for dining options. The staff are so friendly and helpful, just a wonderful experience. Breakfast out on the beach, very nice touch.

The property setting with beautiful gardens and right on the beach was fantastic. The ocean view villa was spacious and well fitted with a big terrace with a jacuzzi pool and view of the sea. Near the hotel within short walking distance and a quiet road are a number of local restaurants if u don’t fancy the hotel meals that can be pricey. Breakfast on the beach was an excellent way to start the day. The weather was a bit of a downer as every single day we had massive waves and couldn’t swim. All the staff were polite and friendly and both Andrea and Yiannis did everything they could to make our stay a memorable one.

The property location is perfect being on the beach in the centre of the bay and next to a village with an array of shops and restaurants. The service was impeccable with the staff remembering your names and eager to assist. The management were visible and every day too and happy to discuss your needs and happiness or just genuinely talk. Free paddle boards and kayaks were an added bonus. The whole resort had a relaxed but well organised feel. I would definitely recommend staying here.

I usually dont write reviews but for this hotel i had to. It was a wonderful stay and the staff are amazingly attentive and helpful for anything you will need. The only problem was with expedia that they sold me the package of the hotel and flight but when i get to the island they are telling me i need to take a boat to get to another island and the last boat was already gone for the day.. i was travelling with 15 month baby so i had to pay one extra day to stay near airport to go the next day to our hotel. Epedia promised to give me a credit for part of the stay i paid extra but i never got it.. i have to call again.

Fantastic hotel but too many kids

An amazing hotel with the most amazing staff, the service was the best you could experience anywhere. The rooms are fantastic, recommend the ocean suites. It’s a luxury hotel which we thought would be mainly adults only but there were loads of kids staying and was very noisy in the pool. The beach and sea are fantastic so we spent most of the time there. It was our 2nd visit to the hotel but we would be reluctant to stay again because of the amount of children.

We had a lovely time - the staff, and manager went out of their ways to make sure our stay was wonderful. Unfortunately, it rained for the majority of our time in Koh Phangan, so we didn’t get to experience as much as we’d hoped; the staff moved special dinners indoors, were extremely accommodating - and thoughtful.

It’s all about the beach

This is a great hotel if you are looking for beach. The beach is very nice and it is a secluded place. If you are looking for more you may be disappointed. While it is a five star hotel it isn’t a top quartile five star hotel. If your benchmark is st. Regis, Four Seasons etc you will think that this a “value for money” option. Please also notice if the weather is bad this is suddenly not a good hotel at all. So only book during the safe/dry season. Now to the good part, apple TV in the room, not too much people, the restaurants are ok and there is a great Italian pizza place just outside on the small stretch. The spa is good. The ones who prefer the Thai budget version there are many options outside the hotel to about a 1/8 of the cost inside the hotel. In conclusion, if you are a couple who are in the beginning of your relationship you will like this place. If you are a family who want beach and cheap food options while staying in a nice place this is also good. If you want luxury in every aspect like restaurants, wine cellar, multiple pools, fancy nightlife, ambiance aim for one of the top hotels in Koh Samui.

What a beautiful place! Our room was absolutely stunning, the food was amazing, and the staff were extremely nice! Mostly all of the staff knew we were on our honeymoon, which was exciting and made us feel special. Definitely a luxury/5 star resort. If you are looking for a stunning villa and an experience to remember- I would highly recommend spending the money to stay here!!!

Great hotel

The hotel is very nice and had a very warm and accommodating staff. My issues with the hotel were due to the hot water in my villa not working on 3 occasions. It was not working when I arrived, was fixed, stopped working again, was fixed again, and then the last morning of my stay was not working again. The hotel was very prompt about sending an engineer for the repair and things would work fine for a day or two. Would I go back? Definitely, overall really liked the hotel.

We had an amazing honeymoon here and loved every minute of our stay. The staff are so friendly and attentive and nothing was ever too much trouble. The bistro serves great food and also offers cooking classes which was really good. We stayed for 9 nights and wish we could have stayed longer! Best choice for our honeymoon - calm, quiet but still lots to do, beautiful beach, heaven!!

Nice, but far from perfect

Very nice hotel, but does not measure up with other luxury hotels out there. Villas have a major problem of outdoor shower, bathroom and dressing room, meaning you'll sweat and encounter different insects, including mosquitos. Rough. However, they do have a nice yet very small pool beachside.

Food is expensive and mini bar charges include a strange service charge. Food was not as good as that of restaurants around...and cost double.

The staff is what this hotel is all about. I wished there were other activities like table tennis or something and also more variety with the food. I would also wished there was more light in the room for when you need it.

Silvia , the manager ,was there for us 24/7 to make sure we are happy with the hotel . she even arrange for a rental of a professional sap and convince them to derive it to the hotel Nadav , a bright young man , was there every time and even came to the hotel on his day off just to help us plan a day trip.
Those employees turned our vacation from great to exceptional.

We were recommended to stay in this hotel after our friends stayed there for their honeymoon. All i can say is - WOW!!

The hotel staff were *REALLY* nice and friendly, and by that I mean you could feel like you're at home with friends or family. We were mainly in contact with Rebecca, Salsa and Jenny. All were great, super helpful and nice to us. Oh and of course Tua (from the restaurant !!). You'll see what i mean once you arrive to the hotel and meet them !

The room we stayed in (Pool villa) was fantastic - very large and designed to fit the location. The huge shower with 2 separate sinks is also a nice touch, not to mention the comfortable bed to crash into after too many pineapple shakes at night ...

The only minor issue one can have with the hotel is its location, which may not be best suited for EVERYBODY. It is located in a small little village up in the northern part of the island. The surroundings are nice and quiet, with a few options for cafes / bars / restaurants in the area (oh and massages also! go to Bambam ! you won't regret it). This area probably is a good fit for couples and families, but may not be all that great for other types of travellers.

Getting to other parts of the island is done by bikes or by taxis, which can be quite costly if done on a daily basis.

Overall - this is a great hotel and really the best value for money you could get! we were so happy with it that we knew we had to book an Anantara hotel in Bangkok after leaving Koh phangan :)

Amazing Hotel

Great experience from the pick up in Ko Samui to the check out on the last day.
We took the speed boat offered by the hotel (5,200 THB), the pick up driver was already waited before the scheduled time and took us to the hotel pier where the great staff checked us in and offered some cold drinks & towels.
When arrived to the hotel, the staff waited on the beach, adorable Salsa greeted us and took us to a tour in the hotel and to our fabulous room (Ocean Pool Suite).

The rooms are well equipped and very clean (housekeeping arrives twice a day). This hotel really thought out on the little things; barrels with water to wash your legs before entering the room, cold drinks and towels when sitting on the beach, free sup and kayaks on the beach, cute notes on the bed etc.

The staff is so nice and kind, we really enjoyed our stay!!!

The only 3 things I can comment about are the prices in the hotel which are basically unreal comparing to the surroundings, the breakfast was a bit lacking and the pools in the rooms which are very small (this is unchangeable but who really needs the pool when you have such an amazing beaches around the island :) you have to visit in the bottle beach!).

Overall we definitely recommend to stay in this property and if ever will be back to Koh Phangan we will definitely stay here again!!!

Quiet location, amazing beach, great restaurants and massage near the hotel.
The stay is totally worth every penny!
Recommended to anybody who seeks quiet and luxury

Best part of our Asia tour honeymoon/vacation

Wow!! What an excellent resort! My wife and I spent four wonderful days of our honeymoon at Anantara while in Ko Phangan. The excellency started with the most delightful check in experience that either of us had ever had at a resort or hotel and followed by news of an upgrade to two different suites.

I booked this resort in part because of a recommendation from a friend/coworker and the reviews that I read on multiple forums. Everyone mentioned how great the staff is and that truly is the case. Of course the property is everything that you would want and dream of in a 5 star resort but the staff is unbelievable. As a guest, the make you feel very much at home and tended to without being too intrusive (as was the case in other places we stayed). They coordinate every detail of your stay (whether it be on or off the resort).

Highlights from the resort: the breakfast of course - so yummy and with such great variety. Bobo the staff member who works with the water sports (he taught me how to paddle board without ever having done it himself, Rebecca from guest services (handles ever detail of your stay and she speaks like 146 languages!), Salsa from guest services who taught us Salsa classes:) and made us feel like VIP guests, the welcome drink and refreshing drinks/towels they bring to you on the beach, the location!!! Not only the location on the island but also on the beach itself - so close to all the key things.

We stayed in a traditional garden pool villa which was excellent. The pool was small but all one needed to cool off. The room situated upstairs was nicely appointed with nice large bathroom.
The main pool area was lovely could do with more than 8 seats around it. However the beach is right there and many loungers you can use. These seats are serviced with a bell when you require anything. The restaurant is excellent the food was very good yes more expensive than in the little village nearby but the quality was far superior than anything from there. What made the place extra special was the amazing staff. From top level down they all made you feel special probably the best we have had anywhere. Highly recommend to stay here on your visit to Koh Phangan.

My group of four travelers were lucky enough to enjoy ourselves here during the full moon party. We arrived and were greeted with the utmost hospitality and a beautiful welcome drink. However, groups of more than 2 - please note that rooms are meant for max 3 travelers. We ended up getting an additional room due to the oversight on our end. Staff was more than understanding and found a room perfect for us. The staff is one of the best parts of this hotel, so kind and helpful you can't help but smile your entire stay. Breakfast is included and a great buffet. The dinner special was a Surf and Turf. This was overpriced for a very small portion, the only con the entire stay. You can rent complimentary paddle boats and kayaks for the ocean which is extremely convenient. The room itself is wonderful. A huge closet and even a beach bag which you may use for your stay. Main pool is also great and the perfect temperature. The personal villa pools are not heated (at least ours wasn't) and shaded so not very warm or convenient for tanning. Great bed and rainfall shower. Even cute local snacks provided and small portions of alcohol to enjoy complimentary. There is even Apple Tv (not that you should spend your days inside). The finishing touch was the handwritten welcome letter and customized farewell note left in the room. The service at this place in second to none.

The stay was great. I really liked it very much. Very friendly staff...every body very polite and helpful. Concierge service beyond excelent. In my opinion, The resort and its location are the best one in Koh Phangan....if you are looking for a quietter stay and a relaxing one, definitely best option...also because I believe it is situated in the best part of the Island and also the neighborhood around is by far the most chick and neat among all others. Good breakfast - shame juice is from carton.

Lot of dogs (looked healthy) outside hotel grounds, fairly friendly dogs and won't bother you if you avoid eye contact, otherwise may say hello - i like dogs.

Cons:
Both if us had a bit of back ache from soft mattress by about day 4, tended to sink towards middle. Would go to bed OK and wake up felling less so.

Everything's very pricey, but if you don't want to pay so much just walk 5 mins into town or to another hotel for food, massage, etc, so really not that inconvenient. While they were trying to sell massages, most local places were fully booked out - we used another well equipped 5* hotel close by for third of the price.

Lighting inside garden villa - so many different switches, some lamps have to bend down and stretch between furniture to find the on/off button, even with them all on it's still pretty dark at night.

Other considerations:
Not too much going on, so best suited for relaxing holiday.

Downstairs of garden pool villa fairly redundant, can't help thinking could have been so much better if they had used this space for an inside lounge.

Garden pool villa could do with an intercom as long way down to answer the door.

If going again wouldn't spend any extra on garden pool villa - just book a normal room.

Fantastic Hotel

Absolutely faultless experience, the staff are warm and attentive, the customer service is world class. The location and facilities are amazing. The spa is exceptional and we even did a wine tasting session with Thai wines which was great.

There is nothing to fault, we had 5 nights here and it is the best hotel in Thailand I've stayed in. Would definitely recommend it, it is superb.

Staff superb. Friendly and wanted to please. Made you feel like royalty. Hotel prices (spa,drinks etc.)were high but that was to be expected from a place of this standard. Lots of local salons nearby charging £6 for full body massage. Happy hours in bars are staggered. I would suggest booking taxis and transfers with local firms as hotel charged a fortune. Wonderful,overall experience.

Honeymoon upgrade!

Upon check in as a newly married couple we were given a wonderful present from the management in the form of an upgrade to an ocean pool villa. We spent the most relaxing and special week there. The staff were wonderful and when we did the cooking course 'Spice spoons' Jak and his Thai kitchen team were fantastic. We also had 'In villa dining' on the deck of our Villa, the team came along and set up the most beautiful dining experience, the BBQ seafood and meat was out of this world, with the Fillet Mignon being probably the best we had ever eaten. We happily recommend this Hotel to everyone and would like to say once again a million thank yous to the Rasananda for making our Honeymoon perfect.

The hotel provides a good experience overall. Main drawback is getting to it as it is a boat ride away from Koh samui. The hotel provided boat will charge you 20000 for the round trip which is outrageous. They also offer a shared boat service but even this is 4000 per person.

A wonderfully quiet beachfront resort, informal yet luxurious. Our beachfront villa was incredible: large, airy, private and convenient. The surrounding beach and village was quiet but provided all of the amenity required. Will be a lot better when the road in is finished as weather sometimes affects the boat trip

Attentiveness at it's finest!

A beautiful resort with an amazing staff. We had arrived hours before our check in time, so we knew our room wouldn't be ready. The front desk immediately escorted us to a day room so we could rest and clean up from our travels until our room was ready (A wonderful feature!). The staff was always friendly and willing to improve upon our stay which never was anything less than stellar. The location is quiet and beautiful, the food was very tasty, the spa was beautiful and relaxing, but the staff easily made the stay a memorable one!

Best resort on the beach.

Our stay at Anantara far exceeding my expectations. Our villa was comfortable, clean with every attention to detail attended to on a daily basis. The staff is exceptional. We particularly liked the mood that is set throughout the property of peace, tranquility and calm, through music, furniture, flowers, lighting, the spa and staff. This mood helped us decompress from our busy lives quickly.

Beautiful, modern resort

I am from LA and stayed at the Anantara with my husband and two sons aged 14 and 11. We stayed two nights at the end of our tour of Thailand. The A. was patient with my boys.

I took the fruit carving class & was the only pupil. Otherwise, we hung out at the pool and used the beach and beach kayaks. The accoustics of the main outdoor space meant that the boy's occasional loudness was dampened substantially.
We ate breakfast and dinner at the Anantara and took the boys for pizza at a local spot just down the beach to the north. Anantara prices are basically what you would find in the US. We made sure to arrange our own transportation from the port, Thong Sala. I had hoped that the Anantara would send transport, but they did not. We paid 1000 baht for the trip from the port and 800 for the trip back. I believe that the Anantara wanted to charge us 3k.

The spa itself is breathtaking, but we only used the complimentary 15 minute massage.

There is a dive shop, operation in the little hamlet around the Anantara. If we had been there another day, my husband and older son might have taken a dive trip to Sail rock.

Ten days in paradise.

We spent ten wonderfull days at the Anantara Rasananda. They picked us up at Samui airport for the boat trip to the resort in Koh Phangan. A cool drink was provided at the departure lounge prior to boarding.
On arrival we checked in and were amazed at the size, elegance and position of our beach front pool suite, we could not of been happier.
The resort is very quiet and each of the units very private, ideal for couples. There is an opportunity to meet other guests at breakfast time or dinner, or during a poolside drink at the bar. All meals are prepared and served with the ideal of providing guests with an enjoyable experience.
The staff looked after us as if we were family, every request was welcomed with a smile and a promptness that impressed us.
Thanks again for a wonderful time.

Excellent beach resort

Beautiful resort, outstanding service and great food. Quite secluded area so we were happy they had excellent food since there aren't many other options. Private speedboat transfer from Koh Samui airport is necessary. Otherwise, you drag your luggage a lot and spend a lot more time getting to the resort and back to airport. Its expensive transfer but worth it in time saved. The staff greets you on the beach upon arrival, they carry your luggage from boat to your room. You will walk into the warm water getting off the boat at the beach, so prepare to wear shorts, skirt or something you can hike up. It is all worth the effort. Everywhere we visited in Thailand had excellent service. Very organized. This resort has all the bases covered.

Friendliest staff on earth

Fantastic service! Great food and by far the friendliest staff I've ever met. But it was a logistical challenge to get there from Ko Samui unless you are willing to spend 200 bucks on a private boat. We had to wait 4 hrs for the next available ferry then had to utilize a van that came pleasantly with screaming children of another tourist's family for 45 mins of a bumpy ride. On the way back, I was more than happy to spend whatever to avoid that hassle. Getting to Full Moon Party also was expensive, about 70 dollars for a private truck. I highly recommend this place for couples and families who do not desire much movement within the island.

Anantara completely impresses in this location. Couple areas of improvement would be better staff training and communication skills and better food overall. The difficulty in getting to/from Koh Phangan without it's own airport should be fully noted. Cost ends up being close to Koh Samui, but you get a better room and more serene Island.

We lived on the beachfront line on the second floor with sea-view, like it much!

But you have to now (May, 2012th) that on the other side of hotels beachfront now it is a noisy construction of onother hotels so check the villa you will take before to te sure it's OK.

The restaurant is good but quite expensive (80-100 usd per dinner for two without a wine bottle)

You can get the same one and a half times cheaper than dinner at a nearby restaurant at Panviman Resort.

Stunning spa area is fascinating.

The hotel territory with a small pond with sacred fish is small but cozy. Additional services and entertainment, there is practically no plan to fill your leisure time with books or going to bed)

On the quiet small shopping street near the hotel territory there are a few of ordinary tai-food (not great) restaurants, one lounge (LUNA) and massage studios with the price of 300-500 baht per massage hour.

Breakfast at the hotel liked fresh, all products are hidden from the insects and all the ice in order not to spoil food is very true! Juice squeezed all before breakfast.

Use a speadboat transfer, it costs 3500 baht for Roundtrip per person incl transfer from airport) - public boats are not so comfortable I think. It's more expencive than Santhiya transfer but you can't get from Santhia beach with big bags- you will need a taxi in this case.
And try jet-ski to look nearest rocks. the prise 2100 baht per hour is resonable)
We like it much and sure we will come back!

We booked to stay in Anantara Rasananda on Koh Phangan for 5 nights, but as a result of sea conditions we were unable to travel from koh samui on the first day. Ananatara were kind enough to set us up in their hotel in Koh Samui , Anantara Lawana, at no additional cost. they also organised all our transfers which made our traveling stress free. we took the private speedboat across the next morning which only took 15 minutes. the hotel itself was beautiful, it is a small hotel , but the individual villas are large with many in room extras and a private plunge pool.

As we are jewish, we required our food to be prepared in a kosher way. the chefs and staff were more then accommodating and were very patient with our requests. chef Tony even purchased new cutlery for our own use.

There is a small town on the same street as the hotel and it is nice to walk around at night. there are cheap taxis to the fool moon party which is on the other side of the island.

I recommend getting a full board package as individual meals are quite expensive. other then that , for a private getaway and ultimate tranquility this is the place to stay.

This hotel is wonderfully designed and in a great, isolated location. The customer service falls far below the 5-star level, probably due to the inexperienced staff. I would discourage staying at this resort during the winter holidays, as the management mandates that you pay for their exorbitantly priced holiday meal if you stay there that night.

A great hotel if you never go

A great hotel if you never go anywhere else, but forget going to the full moon party - it is a solid one hours drive and can only be accessed by a serious four wheel drive. In the wet season, guests were reportedly let out of the car at the bridge, waded through waist deep water with their bags, then picked up on the other side of the bridge. The mud aquaplaning on the roads is scary. The food is quite good but spectacularly overpriced and the staff are obseqious to the point of intrusiveness - they call over and and over again, do you need a car, do you need your room made up, the price for the car is this, when do you check out...etc. I swear they called 6 times and knocked on our door 3 times in one afternoon.
That said, it is lovely and clean and there are some excellent english speakers here. The pool is nice but cold and the private beach is great.

Rest and Relaxation

This was an absolutely beautiful hotel with an incredible atmosphere. The rooms were ultra modern and each had its own small pool. I have to say that during my trip to Thailand the food at this hotel, both breakfast and dinner, was probably some of the best I experienced. This is a fantastic place to relax and get away from it all, or for honeymooners. Very secluded. Be sure to choose the correct ferry from Ko Samui to get there. We chose one that dropped us off at the other end of the island and then had to take a 50 min ride along these unpaved dirt roads. Great place that won't disappoint!

Marvelous experience, ideal place to relax.

The Rasananda Resort is just great ! The lovely pictures on internet do correspond to the reality. The site is beautiful and very well maintained, the staff charming and efficient. The food is excellent in the hotel as well as at the restaurant located at the far end of the beach, which proposes a lovely barbecue with sea food.

This is one of those resort that is a must to visit, arrange thru expedia, got a reply from the hotel for the cofirmation, arrange our pickup from the airport and boat to hotel was easy, as they understand english pretty well. the place was like paradise, i like my hotel room ..it comes with a pool and we stay on the second floor, the view was fantastic from our room. The hotel staff was well train and friendly. The room was clean and equipment was excellent, the eatery around the hotel was also great. we even sat at a pub next to our hotel at the beach to have our dinner and watch world cup.

the beach is the best , but also the hotel.
the location of the hotel is not helpful if you want to do something else.
for the scuba diving (lessons or dive ) try to find \"H2O SCUBA\". Lee is the best!!.
Also nice restaurant on the right side of the hotel (Try bbq plates).
in the village outside of the hotel is small market .
