On the hillside across the fjord from the airport and town, it was in the middle of having an extension when we were there (boy, Icelandic builders are hardy) so was a little out of sorts. That said, it is kept in immaculate order, and I’m sure the extension will be great. Currently it’s just 8 rooms, and won’t be so much bigger next year, but will have an internal lift so you don’t have to go outside to get to the lower rooms.
There isn’t a restaurant, but the breakfast buffet is a good start to the day.
If you have a car (and you really need one if you are traveling independently around here) it’s a short drive to downtown with a couple of gnarly turns after dark.

It is about 10 minutes from downtown. The hotel is family owned and operated, he was very attentive and took care of us while there. No dinner there, breakfast is very simple. Small bathroom but adequate. We chose the hotel so we can be away from the city but near to benefit from all the restaurants and stores. We lucked out the night we were there, we saw aurora at around 1:00 AM. It was a bonus treat.

By far the best hotel we stayed at in Iceland. The hotel is situated upon a hill overlooking Akureyri and the magnificent waterfront. The room offers a breathtaking view of the waterfront and I felt like I could spend hours just staring at the view.
The hotel has a handful of rooms and that adds to the very quiet and peaceful atmosphere.
The rooms are quite clean and spacious and very elegantly furnished. The floor to ceiling windows and the private patio allow you to soak in the amazing view.
We found the breakfast to be simple but yet wholly adequate. My wife and I are vegetarians but we felt very satisfied with the options on offer. The only very minor feedback we would have is to keep the slices of cheese separate from the slices of meat at breakfast. Since people tend to use the same serving fork for both the meat and cheese, the vegetarians may feel uncomfortable taking the cheese.
There is also ample free parking available at the property.

The views from the rooms are spectacular overlooking the city and estuary and the rooms are beautifully maintained with a great shower and bathroom. In the room was a coffee machine which during out stay was replenished daily. Breakfast was included and was buffet style with cold meats,cheese, pastries and fruit all very nice. The owner was very helpful with ideas for our stay. The drive into the city takes around 10 minutes and there is free evening parking in the centre. Highly recommended.

Hotels.com address was not correct. The location is actually closer to the turn off than indicated. If you use Google maps it will give you the accurate information. The hotel was super clean and had an amazing view. The host was very friendly, and the breakfast was great.

We loved this property so much. I think this had the best views of the mountains, ocean, city, and farmland. It really is the best location and the rooms have giant picture windows. The shower was large. The breakfast was great. Even though the Northern Lights were not happening the night we were there, the view of downtown Akureyri lights at night reflecting in the ocean was delightful. We also saw airplanes taking off! We would definitely stay here again. I would personally love to buy land near this hotel and build a house and enjoy the view!

I highly recommend this hotel. The view from every room is amazing. It’s located up on a hill overlooking the water and ‘city’ lights. The entire outside wall is all windows, enjoyed the view for hours. Room was super clean and plenty of space. But as great as the room was, the owner is the highlight. He was extremely helpful with getting us checked in, he was knowledgeable on interesting places nearby, and the breakfast he prepared each morning was fantastic. Only wish we could have stayed longer. Great location, great room with a view, and great hospitality. So glad we stayed here.

The gentleman who took care of us during our stay couldn’t have been any kinder. He told us about a nearby restaurant that I hadn’t read about, called to enquire about a fish dish, and made our reservation. It was delicious! When he learned we had to leave before breakfast hours, he had everything ready a half hour early so we could eat. It is a beautiful place, the rooms are excellent, peaceful and the view can’t be beat.

Our host was incredibly helpful and knowledgeable about things to see and do throughout Northern Iceland. We loved the view from the hotel and as we had a car it was quick access to parking and then walking throughout Akureyri itself. We wished we had more time to explore the recommendations in the surrounding area but had a wonderful day trip to see the birds and geology of the Lake Myvatn region and time at the Myvatn Nature Baths - much better surrounding scenery and relaxing conditions than Blue Lagoon.
Finally, the Breakfast was a very wonderful spread that met the tastes of adults and two teens alike. If we end up in Northern Iceland again in the future we will be staying here.

We stayed two nights and needed all of it to take in what the area has to offer. Our host was gracious and very helpful. The accommodations are as advertised. Nice and quiet and close to everything. We highly recommend the Hafdals Hotel.

This hotel is a new small hotel situated across the bay from Akureyri with stunning views of the mountain ranges and water. Each room is large and has a view. The beds are comfortable, it has all the modern conveniences and a basic but filling breakfast.

Of the whole two weeks on the Ring Road in Iceland, this was our favorite hotel. The view is breathtaking, the room was immaculate, the location is convenient, and the staff went above and beyond for us.
