Great hostel, perfect location, very clean with plenty of bathrooms (which we were concerned about after reading other reviews). Staffless check-in worked fine. Oh, and excellent free coffee! Only complaint is that the pod was too warm, with no way to control the temperature apart from a fairly ineffective fan.

The pods were surprisingly comfortable. The common areas were well taken care of, and beautifully decorated. There were plenty of bathrooms - sometimes a worry at hostels. It was definitely one of the best hostels we have stayed in. It is right in the center of town, so perfect location to see Akureyri.

This is my first time staying in a Hostel. I was very impressed. Staff are helpful. The common area was big and clean.

I did not like the pool table. It creates a loud noise. It is difficult to rest after a long day of hiking or traveling. IMO

For the price, it was fine. The capsules weren’t for me but some people might think it’s great. They were advertised to have “AC” which is not an accurate description of what the units have for air flow-two small vents that did not keep the unit cool in the least. The mattress is also basically what’s in a crib (or was in the 90’s-I think cribs have better mattresses now). The power outlets in the units aren’t great. Paying the equivalent of $8 to borrow a towel for one day feels criminal. The property managers were responsive to messages.

Decent budget option, but communication and support need improvement. I emailed well in advance to confirm my booking but never received the necessary info, and there are no staff on site to help.

Pros:

Affordable budget option.

Pods are reasonably comfortable for sleeping.

Earplugs made it possible to get a decent rest.

Cons:

No staff on site; arrival instructions weren’t sent despite emailing well in advance.

In-pod safe was locked and unusable.

Outlets and USB ports inside the pod don’t actually charge devices (only explained in the instruction video after arrival).

Alarm function on the pod was disabled.

Pods are not soundproof.

When crowded (e.g., student groups), it’s difficult to find a free outlet in common areas.

I had never stayed at a Pod hotel before. I went to the pod and could not figure out where the keybox was. I did figure that out when I went back to the front again. The Plugin in Pod 58 only worked some times for me. It needs to be replaced. The kitchen was great. Not sure if I'll ever stay in that kind of place again

Staying in a pod was such a unique experience. Pod walls are not soundproof, but cozy and have a TV for an ultimate movie watching experience. The full kitchen was super convenient and common areas and bathrooms were kept very clean. Parking in P1 and P2 is paid during the day and free past 4pm, which we only found out when we got there, but overnight parking was painless since P1 is super close to the hostel.

The pods were amazing. Having your own little quiet space was just the best. They are spacious and so comfortable- I had a single and had space to store some clothing items.
There are coat racks and a good storage space.
It is kept clean and is lovely and welcoming. The bathroom Facilities are very modern and it’s about 12 toilet/ shower rooms.
There are 2 lounge areas - kitchen and at the back of the hostel and the outdoor area is also lovely. The kitchen facilities are great too and everyone did their bit to keep it tidy.

Would recommend and would stay there again

The pod hotel idea is cool, and the pods are quite cozy and nice. However, there were a lot of very loud rude people in the pods around me coming in and out after midnight. It's very loud in the bottom pod when someone is disrespectfully stomping up their steps and opening and closing their door all the time. I got very little sleep.

I agree it's a pretty fun and unique place to stay at. However, you'll be lucky if you get the upper bed. I was given the lower bed and I couldn't trust the quality of the pods enough when the person on top kept moving around. Much worse creaking sounds than normal bunked beds. The pods are made of plastic that felt so unstable. Don't expect the pods to cancel out the noises because it doesn't. I can hear so clearly the people around me snoring. The mattress are kind of thin but honestly wasn't too much of a problem for me as I don't like soft bed. Rarely did I see any staffs in person. You'd have to ring a doorbell to get into contact with them. The locker rooms are kind of beaten up. One thing I do like however, is that there are a good amount of restroom/shower rooms.

Our stay was not up to the excitement I had when I first booked this hostel. The idea of it is great. However I believe management is lacking in some regards. First we were concerned that we would not be able to make the drive(due to road closure) however talking to management on the phone, we were told roads would open up and if they do, we would not get a refund. So we drove, 10 hours, through very difficult conditions to say the least. Once we arrived at 11pm. We did self check in, to find our pod was dirty. After calling management, we got another pod. We were hoping to shower but the towels were locked and were for rent of 1000Kr each, so we couldn’t. The first night we realized that only one vent in the pod worked. So we became extremely hot inside the pod. We asked for ANOTHER pod, towels, and laundry. We were able to get another pod for the rest of our stay. However be warned, the two vents are extremely small and it still can became hot, not as bad as the first night. We’re able to get towels for free from management thankfully. We found out that the kitchen and laundry were closed due to renovations, we were not aware of this at booking. Luckily we were able to go to the hostel across the street that allowed us to do laundry there. Also the TV did not work for us in both pods we were in, we tried multiple different tries to use chrome cast and the movies download on the TV. But neither worked. I hope these concerns are brought up in the future, has great potential.

I really enjoyed the single capsules and the open kitchen plan, as well as the quiet/respectful guest arrangements. I will absolutely stay here again, and for longer if possible, as it’s very quaint and it’s in the middle of the town. Thank you for an amazing stay and keep up the amazing work!

This property is very unique. Located in the downtown core. Parking is free in the Town Parking areas P1 and P2 overnight 4pm to 10am.

Very nice couple operate this interesting facility. They work hard to keep it clean and running smoothly. Very convenient for a budget traveler. Secure entry and good security. We brought and cooked our own food in the well equipped kitchen. (With many other guests doing the same) Hostel vibe with visitors from many different countries and lots of ages. We enjoyed the experience but are happy that we brought earplugs. 9 bathrooms for up to 80 guests but we never had trouble finding an open one when we needed it. Right in the middle of downtown so tons of restaurants within walking distance.

Totally recommend staying here, Ive never stayed in a hostel or a pod before, but I was only in town for 2 day and wanted to embrace the backpacking experience. I heartfelt warmly thank the lady on reception and the gentleman in the mess room as they was so helpful and kind and gave a homely feeling to the place. The facilties are well kept and the cleaniness in the washrooms are kept to a very high standard. If your on a short visit and travelling through, stop here. This was a really unique and cool stay - I was surprised by how not-claustrophobic I felt in my little pod! There was enough room to sit up, and there were two ways to open the door (one with a button, and one manual, in case anyone is wondering). The manual was as easy to push down as a door's latch bolt. There is a tv in there, which you can connect to on your phone and listen to with headphones provided in the pod.

This was a fantastic experience, I absolutely loved staying at this hostel. Not only were the bathrooms incredibly clean and well kept, but staff were also extremely helpful and very friendly.

The capsule itself was brilliant - plenty of space for both myself and my partner. Although when waking up the following morning we did find the air to be incredibly dry (due to the option of having fans on within the capsule). Much like how you feel post a long haul flight. However, this being the only minor negative, it was a fantastic experience and one I would highly recommend.

Prior to arriving we received an email with a code to access the hostel front door and a check in code to receive our capsule key from a lockable box within the hostel (all very easy and smooth to do). We were also sent additional information in regards to where is best to park which was incredibly helpful and very much appreciated.

It was good for the novelty, property was clean and well located. The sleeping experience was miserable. A thin foam mattress over a hard platform and no sound isolation. You will hear every conversation in the room, every creak and shift of bodies searching for comfort on the sad beds, which will go on all night since no one seems to be sleeping well either.
Might be ok if you were young enough to not be bothered sleeping on the ground, sedated and maybe deaf.

Watch this hotel when making reservation

When I made the reservation online, I made a mistake. I found out right away and called to cancel. I realized that it was nonrefundable so I told the hotel that it could keep one night money. But, the hotel refused to refund any.
You would think that any business with consciousness will not take any custom money for doing nothing. In fact, my friends and I had similar experiences with other hotels; all refunded all money we put down. But, not this hotel. It tells you something about this hotel so think twice when making a reservation.

We came as a family. The kids loved the space-age pods. I had difficulty sleeping, found the mattress a little thin and the pods poorly sound insulated. It was a hot day as well, and it was hot inside. Probably better for younger people than us middle aged folks. Service was nice, bathrooms were good and eveything overall was clean.

Unique capsule experience

The capsule experience was unique and while at first I thought it might be a bit claustrophobic, I was happy to to find that it was easy to sit up and had enough space around me. Only once in the night did I try to move my legs and hit the door. The bed was comfortable and clean. The hostel itself was very clean too. I only spent a night there but they had really well setup common areas. Would have loved to hang out there.

The pods were unique and very cool. Didn't block all sound but still very quiet - there weren't very many other people staying there when we were there. Quite a few bathrooms and never had to wait. Best breakfast we had on our entire Iceland trip, and all homemade.

It was a bit difficult to find - 2nd floor above businesses on a main street. Parking was a bit weird - you have to use business parking a block or two away that is only available 4pm - 10am without a voucher.

Short but sweet. A great hostel to stop in for a night or two for a bit of fun. It feels a little like you are on a movie when you are in secluded little pod. The pods are comfortable and fit out with a tv for entertainment. The breakfast was great, a large spread and generous servings.

Space age pods giving you privacy in a hostel - just like your own little hotel room. Access to the upper pods was easy - more like stairs than a ladder. Friendly staff. Got a personal orientation on check in. Large communal kitchen with huge cool room. Individual bathrooms were modern, clean and spacious, again privacy in a hostel. Best breakfast spread I have ever seen in Europe (the brownies were divine). Locating the entry to the hostel might have been a bit trickier, had I not had a preview on street view.

The staff was friendly, showed you how to use the capsule controls, and where everything was. There was a shocking amount of privacy for a hostel. If you are looking for many people to talk to I would go to another hostel. This one is quiet. If you are looking for a quiet break and a little privacy this is the place to go. You can have the best of both worlds and go across the street to the bar/hostel have a drink chat n go to back to your capsule for a quiet star trek like fortress of solitude. The kitchen is clean and stocked with the usual equipment. Breakfast is included and pretty good.

Great location in central Akureyri. The pod hostel concept is great, balancing privacy very well with shared spaces. A new hostel, still getting its facilities up and running, with lockers to come shortly (you're still able to keep your valuables in your pod, and charge your phone safely there). Breakfast is very tasty and generous. Staff were very helpful with all requests.

Packed with backpackers. Some came in at 4am made loud sound. Lacks privacy however has grear Kitchen (full facility to cook anything- very rare in Iceland) Shower is top TOP.
Unlimited towel provided. Breakfast was included and was great quality. For the freebees the price is reasonable. if u r just here to sleep price is high.

I would go back to Akureyri just to stay at this hostel. It was absolutely perfect, and the pod idea gives a lot more privacy to the hostel concept. Plus, nice terrace overlooking main street, incredibly friendly staff, good range and tasty breakfast (the pastries are baked right there) and everything was somehow sparkling clean almost all the time. I dont usually give many written out reviews, but this place deserves it.

Excellent Stay in the Center of Akureyri

This is a clean and new feeling hostel in the center of Akureyri. Service was extremely good, with friendly staff. It's great to be in a hostel setting but still have a pod that creates a good sense of privacy. The bathrooms were clean and in good order. Breakfast was tasty as well. If there is one bad thing that I could say, it would be that this hostel is not as social as the Akureyri Backpackers across the street. However, it was easy to pop over there to get a cheap (for Iceland) beer and meet some new people. The hostel is central to everything in town, and provides a great base to get out and explore Northern Iceland.

Notes: The hostel is on the second floor of a retail building with some sports stores. Go to the back of the hallway and up the stairs to reception. Remember that you can park at the Hof building at all times for free, and it is maybe a 5 minute walk from the hostel.

This is one of my favorite hostels I've been in, and I would not hesitate to stay again.

Hôtel confortable pour des pods. Les sanitaires sont très propres, une cuisine est a disposition ainsi que des petits salons (dont un avec un billard). Les pods sont rassemblés en 3 salles différentes (environ 20 pods par salle), ce qui permet de réduire les potentielles nuisances sonores.
