This was a family reunion in Italy. We learned upon arrival that our reservation had been lost, and there were no rooms available at the original location. The manager Maria Luisa clearly worked hard to ensure we were well taken care of. This 5 star review reflects her efforts.

A beautiful, rustic Villa a few steps ( walk up the steps ) away from the town center. The have some excellent vegan, organic food and wine in their restaurant located at the town center. Above all, Enrique, I assume, the owner of the property, is a genuine personality with a warm smile and with lots of informed about Etruscan culture!

Overall, a best stay! Keep up the good work Enrique!

We stayed for one night. The room was fine but very basic. The fridge did not work, the lights flickered all of the time. They went out of their way to help us with parking. The breakfast was served in a little garden which was pleasant and the food was good. The hotel is vegan so only soy or almond milk for the coffee which we did not care for.

My partner and I stayed for 3 nights, Thur-Sun, last week. This is definitely more of a B&B than a hotel and from our experience, 3 stars is rather generous. On arrival at 3:30pm the hotel was closed and we had to call staff to check in. We waited nearly 30mins. The room we were given was on the ground floor right by the entrance (no.24). It was clean, but rather dark and dingy. There were only 4 clothes hangers provided. The road was also quite noisy. The hotel is just a 5 min walk to the old town, which was excellent and there are plenty of places to eat. Although, you have to walk along the edge of a busy road and I would be wary if you have children. We also returned to the hotel at 10pm in complete darkness, which felt rather strange. In the mornings we were woken by people talking outside our room by the entrance and smoking by our window. Breakfast was fine, but rather basic. As the hotel began to fill for the weekend, parking became problematic, by Saturday we had to park a 10/15min walk down the steep hillside at a local supermarket. On Sunday, we were told to check out by 9am, however at 8:30 reception was still closed. We had to call staff back to the hotel again and had to wait over 20 minutes. It was rather stressful, as we had a flight to catch. So overall not a particularly relaxing stay at this hotel, but it was cheaper than other accommodation in the area. Volterra is an exceptionally beautiful town though and we enjoyed the area very much.

My partner and I stayed for 3 nights. On arrival the hotel was closed and we had to call staff to check in. They said 10 minutes it was 25. Not too much of an issue, as it was a nice sunny day while we waited, but we had a long journey and were tired and hungry, so not ideal. The location is better than indicated as although just outside the wall it is only 5 minutes from main square. The building is more of a large house than hotel which was fine for us. The reception is only staffed on checkout and checkin, to checkin had to wait 30 minutes in the heat and make several phone calls.
The staff were friendly especially the breakfast staff and served very good coffee, on the downside breakfast day one expectable but more fruit on second day, room was cleaned each day.
Would visit again especially if arriving by car although a car is not necessary as there is parking.

We only had 1 night in Volterra but found the hotel very good. Parking on site was a plus and it couldn’t have been closer to the old town. Just a short uphill walk to the town Gates. We had to leave early the next day so staff arranged early breakfast. Nice outdoor area for afternoon drinks.

The small inn is fine. The service is excellent. We had a problem that was not their responsibility: a lemon of a rental car. The manager stepped in and deftly arranged for a tow truck, a free ride to Pisa and two options for a new rental. We left the car with him. You’d think we were regular guests, not one-night tourists.

While the hotel is away from Florence, an easy bus ride takes you to the downtown area. The hotel was comfortable and the staff was friendly. The breakfast was amazing. Views of Florence were beautiful. Would definitly stay there again.

Lovely hotel next to an exquisite town

A nice small hotel across the street (a very busy street!) leading to the steep steps up to the main square of Volterra. An absolutely beautiful midieval/renaissance town frozen in time, to the advantage of all of us tourists. The town is not touristy! The hotel served a delicious full breakfast, with eggs and croissants, etc. Recommended!

We were warmly welcomed and treated well by our host, who was kind and did everything to accommodate us in this old villa at the edge of the old city. Everything was clean and ready for our arrival.
Onsite parking, a large room, wifi and excellent air conditioning were all positives.
We enjoyed the delicious breakfast which included several choices of fresh fruit as well as the typical meats, cheeses and pastries.

Villa Just Outside the Gates of Volterra

Villa Porto All'Arco is an old villa that's been converted to a small hotel. Don't come if you're looking for modern amenities. This is more of a trip back in time. You get tall ceilings and original floors from hundreds of years ago. The owners are incredibly nice and helpful. And they serve a great breakfast. Two minor demerits. First, the address didn't show up on our GPS so it was a little difficult to find. Second, it's a five minute walk from the hotel to the main piazza of Volterra. So you'll need to walk to shop, sightsee, or have dinner. But it's a fair trade-off for a large, more open room.

Small establishment with lots of character.

This small hotel, converted from a private villa, is just a short (although steep) walk into the town. The rooms are beautifully decorated and have a cozy, authentic, welcoming atmosphere. The owners are so very friendly and helpful with directions and recommendations. There are several good restaurants just inside the town from the villa, so you don't have to walk far to eat well. Our room faced the street, but there was absolutely no street noise thanks to the good windows and shutters. (The rooms in the back of the villa have a better view of the countryside). Breakfast was excellent (like most breakfasts in Italy!) Parking is on-site, but the lot is a bit small and some cars may be blocked in. Volterra itself is absolutely beautiful, and the entire city can be reached by foot from the hotel. During our stay at the villa, there were visitors from all over the world: a good sign.

Great location and a really nice place to stay

The hotel was built as a palatial home in 1900, and retains its turn of the century charm. Our room was large, high ceilings, with great views. It was pretty warm, and the AC worked well to cool off the room. The bathroom was a little dated and the shower pretty tiny, but everything else was just fantastic. People couldn't be nicer, although not a lot of English spoken. I would definitely stay there again.

We had a very hard time finding the hotel. Once we finally located it we had to wait for the proprietor to show up. He failed to answer my phone calla and arrived about 20 minutes after the check-in time with some excuse that I didn't understand. The hotel itself was OK.

Nice charming hotel converted from some sort of mansion. Big rooms with tall ceilings, clean and comfortable. Very pleasant views of the valley below Volterra. Only letdown was the breakfast, which had very tepid coffee and very basic quality food.

Easy walk to Volterre from this European style hotel. Room was simple, but adequate. Breakfast had the best cappuccino in Italy (translation - the largest). View looked towards the sea which you can almost see. A little difficult to find without GPS. You can park right at the hotel. The charming proprietor speaks Italian, but we got by fine.

The location of this hotel is amazing - at the bottom of the climb up into the medieval centre, the last piece of road where you can park legally. Parking available and free at the hotel, which has to be a bonus! We loved our stay here - excellent breakfast, very friendly staff who bent over backwards for us, and the accommodation was perfect, very clean and quiet.

Lovely B&B with great views

This was a charming B&B in a large old house, beautifully decorated with antique furniture. It had large rooms, high ceilings, and big windows that opened up to gorgeous views of the valley below. The bathroom was equally large and very clean. It had a good breakfast and a lovely, though simple, outside patio sitting area. We could not get the wireless internet to work unfortunately. It did not have a mini-fridge, but did have a TV.
It was located just outside of the city walls (downhill) which was a bit of a hassle seeing as how there's no good sidewalk to get there (we had to drag our luggage in the street dodging traffic for 50 intimidating meters!). I guess it's really meant to be accessed by car. But it's just a 10-15 hike uphill to the center of town.
In the end we spent most of our time in Volterra so we didn't get to enjoy all the charm of the B&B, which was a shame given how nice it was.

So good we came back almost at once!

We booked this hotel for the first two nights of a holiday touring Tuscany and arrived shortly before sunset in a hire car picked up at Pisa airport. It is a traditional house in excellent condition, with a good blend of taste and modern facilities. We had a warm welcome and found it ideal in many ways. The parking may be limited but they fit everyone in. It's an uphill walk into the old town of Volterra, but it would be: it's a hill town. (Look out for traffic as you leave the gate - especially as a pedestrian). Rooms are attractively furnished and of a sensible size. The people who run it simply could not be more helpful and welcoming. Breakfast is fine, with attention to refills of decent coffee. What more can I say? Well we set off touring and found good hotels in Montepulciano and Arezzo, BUT we missed this hotel and the relative calm of Volterra, so phoned from Arezzo and returned for two more nights before going on to Pisa. I think we'll stay again before too long...

Convenient access to Old City

The hotel was easy to reach by car, offered secure parking, and was situated just a few steps from one of the main gates to the inner city. The room was comfortable, though proximity to the road made it a bit noisy with the windows open. Service was friendly and the typical morning breakfasts were good. Only the WiFi service was out of commission with no one in a position on the weekend to do anything about it.

We really enjoyed our stay. The hotel was located right at bottom of the walled city. A 5-10 minute walk to one of the \"gates\" to the city. Parking was easy, staff was great and breakfast was good. Building was very well kept with nice outside sitting area out back. The room was nice, the air con worked well and the bed was fairly comfortable. The only downside was the wi fi was weak in our room (#40, farthest from office in back), but the room had an incredible view. The street out front is busy, so I would request a room in the back of the building. The busy street has no sidewalks and therefore makes the first 100 meters of the walk to the city a bit tenuous.

Great selection for the huge continental breakfast. Wifi was extremely weak, often unusable in the room but sufficient in the courtyard. Location was outside the walls of the city and there were many stairs plus a steep pathway to get inside the gate.

Nice small hotel. As the name implies, in an old villa. A bit noisy inside - lots of tile floors and masonry contribute to a little lack of sound dampening. Not too troublesome for us, but if you're highly sensitive to noise, keep it in mind.

Lovely breakfast. Best coffee I ever had, too.

If you're touring and looking to see Volterra, it is a steep, longish walk up to the town from the hotel. We made it repeatedly, but love to walk. If you're less able to climb, it might not be your perfect choice.

Good Volterra base with car

Lovely villa just outside Volterra walls,19th C I should think. Picked it for the parking space which was a tight fit for the van, but at a premium in Volterra. Steep walk through the nearby gate takes you straight into town. Quiet, small garden with views, free fast wifi though weak in room. Great breakfast, home made cake and fantastic coffee. Landlady Antonella is the only one who speaks a little English, but she and her family were very attentive and recommended trips, also extremely kindly forwarded on a lost item after I had left. Peaceful and restorative stay.

We stayed at theis hotel for two nights in September 2010. This is a beautiful 1900 vintage hotel that is just outside the walled community of Volterra. The room condition and staff service were excellent, the views from our window were spectacular and it was very quiet at night . The restaurant recommendations were right on. A most pleasant stay and we would highly recommend.

Sweet place, sweet staff, wonderful breakfast!

This place was terrific for my husband and me. The staff were wonderfully warm and gracious, the accommodation was pretty and clean with a little garden out back where we could eat the delicious breakfast when the weather allowed. The towels were not as plush as we had become used to (kind of thin), but that was very minor.

The location is below the walled hill city of Volterra, which required a fairly steep uphill walk to duomo, shops, restaurants, etc. However, that seems normal for those Tuscan folks...the hill towns restrict cars, and the locals hardly seem to notice the climbs. I believe the town gate closest to the hotel may be one of the more convenient for access to the ancient city. The villa has a small parking lot for guests, which is very helpful.

Volterra is not overcome with too many tourists, although there are some, of course. The Etruscan Museum is definitely worth a visit, as Volterra has a marvelous collection of art, artifacts and funeral urns.

Villa davvero fantastica!!! Per non parlare di tutto il dintorno, situata appena al di sotto del centro storico, dove si può raggiungere 5 min a piede. La colazione buonissima, tutti prodotti tipici e fatti da loro. Poi c’è Maria Rosaria, la ragazza che ci ha accolti, davvero disponibilissima e cordiale… da tornare assolutamente! Ve la consiglio!!! 😍😍😍

Acceso tardío, incomodo y pesado

No se puede acceder hasta las 15,30. Primero hay que ir a un retaurante del centro para que te den las normas para entrar en la villa que esta en las afueras. Teniendo en cuenta las dificultades de Volterra para llegar con coche, es incomodísimo y pesado acceder a pie al centro.

Ao chegarmos não havia ninguém na recepção, havia um aviso para telefonar que alguém viria. Estávamos sem telefone ou internet. Nossa sorte é que havia uma pessoa trabalhando em uma obra lá dentro que nos fez a gentileza de ligar. Fomos informados que o café da manhã seria em um bar no centro da cidade, próximo mas a muitos metros de escadas e rampas. Esse foi o ponto por, não havia uma clara explicação, comemos um sanduíche e café e fomos embora. Não indico, alterar do quarto ser grande e equipado. Também o chão é de posso frio

Gratis Parkplatz, sehr saubere Zimmer und ein gutes Frühstück. Ideal um Volterra und die Umgebung zu erkunden. Volterra ist noch nicht so überlaufen wie San Gimignano. Cosy Tuscan style house, 2 minutes to the old town

Family run business that also have a restaurant in the old town. The 10 procent discount we received as hotel guests for eating there was a only a bonus as the food and service here were phenomenal! If you eat here don't forget to try the wild boar! Located in an old Tuscan style house with garden patio just below the main arch to the old Town. There are some stairs up to the gate but they are farely easy to climb, not steep, low steps. Breakfast was very fresh, different assortments of cold cuts and bread with new baked pastries. Guests can eat their breakfast outside in their cosy garden. I'd definitely stay here again.

Zentrumnahes schönes kleines Hotel.

Wir wurden nett empfangen. Das Haus ist charmant, hinten auf dem kleinen Hof kann man im Grünen sitzen. Die Räume sind hoch, haben große Fenster und sind freundlich eingerichtet.
Das Hotel liegt an einer viel befahrenen Strasse, daher ist es etwas laut. Die Parkplätze am Haus sind zu empfehlen, einige Steigungen sind zu bewältigen. Das Frühstück war ausreichend, Sauberkeit und Service OK.

L'hôtel est à 500 m en contrebas d'une entrée de Volterra. Pour se rendre en ville, soit monter par un escalier, excellent exercice, soit aller en voiture mais il faudra trouver une place dans un des parkings extérieurs. Une fois acceptée cette limitation, la ville, le site, les environs (le Balze) sont très agréables. L'absence de voitures en ville fait un bien fou! A méditer.
