Great location!

We stayed at Le Volpaie to attend an Andrea Bocelli concert (fantastic) and the location was great. It is also perfectly located between Voltarre and San Gimignano for exploring some beautiful cities. The hotel is clean and very nice with very friendly and helpful staff. Great pool! There is an excellent restaurant close by named Villa Felice with the most amazing views - highly recommendable!

The hotel is in a small town and is very clean. The room is spacious and had all the things you need for a comfortable stay. The hotel offered a variety of food for breakfast. Max and Stefano, hotel managers, provided great customer service and made our vacation in Tuscany very special and memorable.

We loved staying here. We booked the suite in the annex building which was very spacious with a king bed and large bathroom. Check in was quick and friendly. We had dinner at a restaurant which is 4 minutes away walking distance with great Italian cuisine. Breakfast buffet at the hotel had much more variety than we expected for the price and service was friendly again. We would definitely stay here again.

This place was incredible. Tucked away into a small hillside but just a short 15 minute drive to San G or Volterra. We loved the balcony, the pool, the service, and the breakfast! 10/10 recommend for couples looking for somewhere beautiful and quiet to stay

Absolutely Updated rooms and property in general. Air conditioning didn't work well, in fact, the air was almost hot. Lots of mosquitos. It was really hard to sleep... The property is clean. Go somewhere else.

Breakfast is GREAT! Location is midway between Volterra and San Gimangnano so you can do both in one day. The hotel itself is nothing special but perfectly acceptable, very clean and everything works - just don't go here expecting a Toscana Villa. Have supper at Tres Arches - it's excellent.

Very charming Inn.. Heart of Tuscany. Pool and cleanliness. The breakfast is typical Eueopean fair but was all excellent..good variety and quality and quantity. Close to Voltera and San Gimignano. Very good restaraunt within walking distance included a olive oil sample of 5 bottles to choose. Real quiet outside hustle and bustle of city noise.

An absolute gem.

An absolute gem. A beautiful hotel in a quiet hill town with a fantastic swimming pool. Great breakfast. Lunch around the pool was superb and a top restaurant only 200 m away for dinner.
Amazing value for money. Highly recommend.

Lovely little villa in the Tuscan countryside. The owners, Luca and Anna were very friendly and accommodating.
The rooms were comfortable although the pillows could be a little softer. The room with the balcony has a beautiful view of the Tuscan countryside.
Great location to access all the little towns in the Tuscany.
Breakfast was amazing. Anna makes all her own sweets and breads, and they were absolutely delicious, !
We had a wonderful stay at Le Volpaie.

Advertised by Expedia to be located in San Gimignano but is instead 15km away on a narrow windy road, away from the city. Somewhat misleading and Expedia should not bury Castelsangimignano deep in the post. If you don’t care to drive the 15km late at night with headlights oncoming to get home, then I suggest staying in the old city itself. Presently in a great room over looking Tuscany for 100$ CDN a night.

Two nights in San Gimignano

The accommodations were nice and clean. The balcony was a pleasant surprise and the pool was nice. The breakfast was excellent with many delicious options. The only downside was the owners/operators were not very hospitable and the spoke little English. When paying the bill, there was no questions about how our stay was, or where we went/where we’re going. He ran the payment, said sign here, gave us our copy and went back to his business. Otherwise, a good stay in a very quiet town.

Very good value for money. Very clean room with balcony. Excellent and very well kept swimming pool. Lots of stairs and slopes so not 100% ideal for my wife who has a knee problem. Away from all the tourists in a quiet location in a small village with a shop, bar and really nice inexpensive restaurant. Ideal base to explore the hill towns around San Gimignano.

Quiet small inn type hotel about 20 min drive from San Gimignano. You must have a car to stay here. There is a pool which is a welcome after a hot day out, and the buffet breakfast is very nice. There is lots of choice and even some homemade items. For lunch or dinner you need to go outside of the hotel. There is only 1 nice restaurant in the town that you can walk to. The hotel rooms are clean and the windows open out to a beautiful country side view. If you want a peaceful and quiet stay this is the place for you.

The hotel was pleasant but the Deluxe room turned out to be a standard room and, whilst we were refunded the difference, we had to find this out ourselves and seek the refund which was gladly given but spoilt the stay.

When we compare the stay to other places we have been in Italy, its probably our least favourite but generally ok.

A lovely little find!

We stayed here for a week's holiday in August and thoroughly enjoyed our stay! We had a room in the Annex to the hotel right next to the pool, however we weren't disturbed by the pool as it was fairly small and we only saw adults in it. The pool was clean and well maintained, with sun loungers surrounding it. Our room was comfortable, had aircon, tea-making facilities, a fridge, a great shower, plenty of clothes storage and was cleaned every day. The buffet breakfast in the hotel was excellent: tea, coffee, juices, cereals, breads, cakes, cold meats and cheeses, boiled eggs, fruits, yogurt, and all sorts of jams and accompaniments. They even had decaf coffee for us odd sorts :-) There is one restaurant within walking distance which is good, very welcoming, but not cheap. We found a few other restaurants within a short drive that were good value with good food, Il Monte pizzeria great for pizza, pasta or something more exotic like wild boar cooked in chocolate (amazing!), La Locanda del Borgo with a great set menu and Fattoria di Mugnano - the hotel kindly gave us a list of places to eat nearby, which was helpful. Castel san Gimignano isn't really waking distance of anywhere so you need a car, but a great base to experience Tuscany from.

Great value & wonderful breakfast in Tuscany

Hotel Le Volpaie was perfect for our stay in Tuscany. Our room was good size with a lovely balcony overlooking the hills. The staff was friendly and helpful. Breakfast offered a wide selection. This hotel was a great value and centrally located to places we visited around Tuscany. You'll want a car if staying here, as it's a very small town without much in the way of sightseeing or dining; 20 min drive to San Gimignano; other towns are within a 30 min drive.

Nice hotel in small town with amazing views.

We really enjoyed our stay at this hotel. You do need a vehicle as it is away in the country side and easier to get to by car. Breakfast was great, Hotel staff were kind, accommodating, and helpful with suggestions. Rooms weren't fancy, but were clean, comfortable, quiet and a place to lay our head. good location for day trips to Florence, Sienna, San Gimignano, Voltere, etc.

Pros and cons

Ok-very clean but some issues.

First the pros. GREAt breakfast and very clean room. Now the Cons. Husband is grumpy and it seems that Sometimes guests are a burden. ACs are weak and not the best view. My son and I took a walk down the valley near the hotel and though beautiful, found a major sewage leak causing a stream of sewage and awful smell at the bottom of the valley. Occasionally there would be wafts reaching the hotel. Obviously this is nothing they can control. Nice pool! Mixed review.

Cute boutique hotel

We went to a wedding in Tuscany and needed a place to stay near by. The Breakfast Hotel was perfect for what we needed. It was reasonably priced, centrally located, clean, and comfortable. The balcony views were beautiful and peaceful and the buffet breakfast was a great treat each morning as well. Would definitely recommend.

Excellent service and very clean
The main thing to realize is this hotel is 12 km from San Gimignano if you are planning a stay there. I was disappointed to find I had to drive 34 km round trip each day to my event near the city. And gas is very expensive in Italy (75 USD to fill a tiny Fiat) I drove around the small quaint city of SG for an hour looking for this place and asking people before finally having someone call and find it was another 12 km down the road. Most Italians do not speak English very well but nevertheless they are eager to help..........in Italian with hand motions!.
However, I was treated to a superb breakfast each morning with cappuccino, fresh fruit and pastries, also various shaved meats and an assortment of cheeses and bread. I wish I could have gotten up an hour earlier each day just to enjoy it, but I had to adjust to jet lag and include travel time so some mornings I just had to bag it. What a shame!
The beds could use a mattress pad as mine was a bit stiff, but the room was always clean and the place was spotless. Nestled in a very tiny town called Castillo de San Gimignana.

Wonderful Tuscany.

We spent a week at the hotel using it as our base to visit Florence, Pisa, Tuscany, and Siena. We had a room with a balcony so we could enjoy the beauty of the hills and vines. The couple who run the hotel are just great, they are very helpful. We forgot a plug for our phone and they sent it to us in Milan. The Breakfast is Outstanding!

This is a great hotel to use if you want to enjoy the beauty and quiet of the Tuscan Hills.

This is a pleasant hotel in the countryside. The highlight of the stay was the breakfast which was delicious. the woman who owned the hotel was really pleasant. You would need a car if you are staying here. It is a 15 minute drive from San Gimignano.

Lovely Stay in Castel de San Gimignano

My husband and I and another couple we are friends with stayed in this hotel for a night (in two rooms) while visiting San Gimignano. It was a lovely stay and the hotel staff was very friendly. The rooms are small but comfortable. The real selling point of this hotel is it's spectacular breakfast. The owners prepare a spread of cheeses, cold cut meats, cereals, pastries, breads and fruits and make coffee drinks to order for the guests. The breakfast room is full of windows overlooking the mountains. The hotel is in Castel de San Gimignano, not San Gimignano proper, but this tiny village is easy to park in and mid-way between San Gimignano and Volterra making it convenient for visiting both if you have your own transportation.

Comfort & charm in Tuscana

My husband & I stayed here 2 nights & loved it. Run by a husband & wife for over 20 years & the details are in the vast tours options desk & big breakfast (included). Make sure to upgrade to a room with a balcony; it's marginally more for an outstanding view. The owner even drive us into San Gimignano when we learned there was no bus for 2.5 hours & we couldn't get a taxi easily. Only downside is the location is NOT in San Gimignano; it's in a suburb 20 mins away called Castel San Gimignano. You need to have Vespas or a car to get around. There's also only 1 restaurant & 2 bars/quick sandwich only places in walking distance from hotel, but good at the Tres Arches restaurant is wonderful.

Very good hotel in a small suburb of San Gimignano

Very good location for visiting the main tourist areas in Tuscany. Hotel ran by husband and wife team who did everything possible to make our stay an extremely pleasant experience. Prided themselves on giving a superb breakfast - beautifully presented and everything you could wish for to start the day. This hotel was one of our stops on our tour of tuscany. It was one of the cleanest hotels i have stayed in and the couple that run it were lovely. only basic facilitys but i would not of expected more for the price anyway. cannot fault the breakfasts and lunch service was excellent if you wanted a quick bite by the pool. had no restuarant in the hotel but there was a really nice one just up the road (walking distance) that was recommended along with a few others in the area, so no problem with places to eat.
Overall a lovely place to stay and really handy for day trips in the car to local towns i.e san gimignano.

Nice calm hotel in the suburbs of San Gimignano

My family and I spent one day in this hotel.
The experience was faily good given the location of the hotel.
There is not transportation in the area of the hotel so you need to arrange for your in/out transportation beforehand
The hotel is well renovated, with rooms that have balconies with great scenes.
The swimming pool is nice and clean and the reception area is cozy with rich breakfast served
The room size is fair with safe box and air-condition, but the bed sheet were not very clean.
Bathrooms are small with a very small shower box
Overall, experience was ok for the type of vacation we were looking for

Pretty disappointing

I frankly expected much, much more of this hotel than it delivered. The location is on a busy street with tons of motorcycles driving by at high speed at night, the pool is cold and only OK, the rooms very ordinary, and the beds rock-hard. Not worth going out of your way (and this place really IS out of the way) for.

Lovely hotel in Tuscan countryside

We picked this hotel as it was much better value than those in the centre of San Gim and had a pool too,which we wouldn't have got for this rate in a city centre. You need a hire car though, it's about 10km of windy road to San Gim but in glorious countryside which suited us as we were on a hiking holiday. The hotel is very well maintained, breakfast is superb, there is a small restaurant offering for lunch and dinner but a very good restaurant about 5 minutes' walk away. The service was excellent and the owners were very happy to let us drink our own wine or theirs - a very mature attitude for a hotel - but just made us buy more of theirs as it was so reasonably priced.
Would definitely go back.

This was a perfect for us; a couple on a driving tour around parts of Tuscany. The owners were friendly and were alsways around to give advice etc if needed. The included breakfast was the best we had during our stays throughout Italy and the information back on suggested places of 'where to go' was excellent.

A lovely place to stay.

This is a small family run hotel in a small village location. We (two couples) stayed only one night as we travelled from Pisa to Siena. Whilst we stayed at three other hotels (with higher star ratings) the Volpaie was the undoubted favourite by the end of our holiday. All the facilities are as described. The rooms are unpretentious, in excellent decorative order and spotlessly clean. The pool was very welcome in the hot weather. The public areas were comfortable with tasteful decor. So what's special? The breakfast was truly excellent by any standard. More importantly the owners (and staff's) unobtrusive, but genuine concern for your comfort and enjoyment makes the Volpaie a gem of a hotel well worth including in your itinerary. Small, comfortable and a bit special!

Amazing and cozy place with charming and welcoming staff. A lot of top notch local cheeses and cold cuts to be washed down with tremendous local wines. A good bar and on the night of our stay they had a pianist entertaining the guest. Comfortable rooms with good air conditioning and calm surroundings gave a good night's sleep.

Geheimtipp am Dorfrand mit perfekter Ruhe

Sehr schönes Hotel im Grünen, fußläufig zu einer Pizzeria. Obwohl ein schon etwas älteres Gebäude ist es gut instand gehalten. Der Pool ist schön groß und in top Zustand! Frühstück überraschend vielseitig inkl. verschiedene Kuchen, Früchte, Rührei... Das Hotel wurde vor kurzem wohl von jungen Leuten übernommen. Sie behalten den Charme behutsam bei, gepaart mit Top-Service. Das Hotel hat uns ein Upgrade auf ein Zimmer mit Balkon gegeben. Klimasystem funktioniert sehr gut. Ausstattung nicht gerade top modern aber zweckmäßig und stilecht. Großer Parkplatz auf dem Grundstück kostenfrei nutzbar. Besonders: Frühstück auf der Terrasse kein Problem. Auch spät am Abend bekommt man noch ein Glas Wein an der Bar. Verschiedene Toskana-Landrestaurants in wenigen Kilometern durch die Weinberge auch zu Fuß erreichbar.

La estancia ha sido satisfactoria , la habitación y el desayuno genial al igual qué la piscina mucha tranquilidad.
Pero no hay ascensor , tuvimos que subir las maletas por las escaleras menos mal que solamente estuvimos dos días.
Por lo demás todo perfecto
Lo recomiendo a la gente que no vaya con silla de ruedas o muletas.

Accueil peu chaleureux par le propriétaire.(visiblement fatigué)Il aurait dû nous prévenir que le ´Hotel n’ayant pas de restaurant,et dans un village isolé,un samedi soir ,il fallait réserver une table dans un des trois restaurants à proximité. Nous avons dû manger dehors en terrasse,par 16 degrés dans le seul restaurant complet qui nous a acceptés !!!
Par ailleurs,mauvaise isolation phonique.
Autrement la chambre est correcte et le petit déjeuner est très bien.

Une nuit avant de visiter San Gimigniano

Hôtel agréable situé à une dizaine de km de San Gimigniano. Les chambres sont confortables et les SDB spacieuses. Notre chasse d'eau était un peu capricieuse. Petit-déjeuner assez moyen.

belle auberge à 15 km de San Gimignano

Auberge située à une quinzaine de km de San Gimignano, offrant des chambres spacieuses et d'une propreté irréprochable bien qu'un peu démodées.
Parking attenant à la propriété et gratuit.
Le petit déjeuner est varié, copieux et de qualité. L'accueil des propriétaires est serviable.
Une adresse à recommander si vous êtes véhiculés et que vous souhaitez dormir à l'écart de San Gimignano ou faire un stop sur les routes du Chianti.
Aux beaux jours une belle piscine fera le bonheur de tous après une journée de balade.

Nettes kleines Hotel zum Entspannen

Schönes Hotel im einer Wohnsiedlung,Pool und Frühstück war perfekt, das Frühstücksei wurde ohne zu fragen gleich an den Tisch gebracht, restliches Buffet war Selbstbedienung. Tolles vom Wurst und Gemüse bis Obst und Kuchen war alles dabei.

endroit calme au milieu de la toscane. tres bon dejeuner, piscine agreable, decoration un peu viellot surtout dans la chambre, mais confortable, sympatique.
attention situe a castelsangiammino ce qui est different du village san giammino qui est a 15 min voiture. ça prend absolument une voiture. Mais situe centrale ent pour visiter pise, volterra, san giammnino et sienne.

호텔건물은 실제로는 호텔방과 수영장은 분리되어있고 호텔주변에선 평원이 보이지 않음.
주인노부부는 매우친절. 아침식사. 메인과 디저트 풍부함.

Hôtel et accueil exceptionnels !

Un séjour exceptionnel grâce à un personnel aux petits soins, des propriétaires très attentifs au confort et au bien-être de leurs vacanciers, toujours prêts à rendre service. Confort et propreté des chambres (et de l'hôtel) irréprochables sans compter les petits déjeuners de grande qualité (dignes d'un hôtel 4/5 étoiles en France !). Hôtel très bien situé pour découvrir toute la Toscane (proche de tous les sites à visiter). Merci à Luca et Anna, nos hôtes bienveillants.

Großartiges Preis-Leistungs-Verhältnis

Wir waren eine Woche im Le Volpaie und haben von dort Tagesausflüge in die ganze Toskana gemacht. Sowohl die Lage des Hotels als auch das Zimmer (wir hatten einen Balkon mit tollem Fernblick auf die Hügellandschaft der Toskana) waren für uns perfekt. Sehr nette Besitzer, alles sehr sauber, toller Pool, leckeres Frühstück. Wir haben unseren Aufenthalt dort sehr genossen.

Ophold i det skønne Toscana.

Søde værter, god morgenmad, fint og rent. Men der var meget larm fra vejen der gik tæt forbi. Hotellet ligger i et meget billedskønt område. Vigtigt at have bil til rådighed.
