We had a pleasant stay at Metzgerwirt VIEH HELI. The hotel is located in a beautiful area next to the mountains and Hallstätter See, offering great views and a peaceful atmosphere. There are also a few affordable bistros and restaurants nearby, and Bad Ischl is only about a 20-minute drive away with plenty of dining options in town.

The rooms were clean, neat, and comfortable. One thing that could make the stay even better would be having a kettle and some refreshments in the room.

Parking space is conveniently available outside the hotel, which was very helpful. The breakfast was decent and covered the basics well. You cannot expect a huge variety of menu options, but for the price of the hotel, it was absolutely acceptable and did the job.

Overall, it is a good value stay in a scenic location.

Absolutely incredible stay! The view was amazing, it was really convenient to get to Hallstatt even with the rail replacement, the complimentary breakfast was fantastic and the staff were all super helpful, kind and accommodating. If you’re looking to spend time in Hallstatt or just the alps in general I can’t recommend this place enough! I will always come back when I visit Austria and will stay here again and again

Coming to visit from the U.S. this type of hotel is charming, not new or renovated but like walking back in time and visiting Grandma. Simple, sweet and wholesome. Took a morning walk at 7 am and wow! The beauty of this little village is unforgettable and after a quick breakfast, it took us only 10 minutes to travel to Halstatt and beat the crowds for an unforgettable walk through that postcard beauty.

Compact but well laid out rooms. Around half the rooms are facing the main road (with a small park in between) so there may be some noise when vehicles pass but it’s still manageable. Love that the parking is right in front of the property, and there are some restaurants nearby.

We stayed here for two nights. The room was clean, and we appreciated the variety of food offered at the complimentary breakfast. The staff were friendly and accommodating — as we needed to check out early on the last day, we asked if we could have breakfast on the check-in day instead, and they were happy to arrange this for us.

The hotel has a hostel-style setup, with shared facilities such as a refrigerator, kettle, and can opener. Reception closes at 3:00pm. The location is convenient, as it is close to Steeg-Gosau train station, making it easy for travellers heading to Hallstatt by train (Steeg-Gosau is just one stop from Hallstatt). The cost is much lower than the accommodations in Hallstatt, so we really recommend it to anyone who would like to visit the place!

This was a lovely hotel, in a very nice, quaint area with very friendly staff, however, it was nowhere near as close to other lakeside towns (such as Hallstatt) as was claimed on the website. Aside from this I would recommend!

The business was closed during our reserved stay. A sign on door stating they were closed. I am trying to get my deposit returned to me but the business is claiming they were open. I took several pictures of the building and the sign that proves my statement to be true.

Excellent for solo backpackers

off peak season, so grateful for letting me check in at 8am.
Great value for the price, room is spacious for solo backpackers, nice mountain view
Toilet is clean, bed sheets and blanket are clean but a bit old
Breakfast is fine for early birds,
Super convenient with both train station and bus stops around, had a really nice time.

An economic choice to visit Hallstatt, Bad Ischl, etc. using train . Breakfast was good. Helpful staff. Not many dining options. Somewhat isolated from main towns. No air conditioning, but fairly comfortable in hot weather.. Sometimes noisy gatherings at bar below front rooms.

Gross, stinky and terrible

This is not a hotel. It’s a restaurant and a meat shop with some rooms on top. The building/room/beds/mattress/pillows and sheets are in horrible shape. It’s hot, loud and bright. The person who gave me the key for the room was extremely rude. Stay somewhere else!!!

Is well located (key if you are going to Hallstatt), you can walk to the train station and go to Hallstatt in few minutes and and for few euros.
Not much around, service not really friendly and building seems old. Food is not good neither bad.
If you plan only to stay because you are going somewhere else maybe yes

Property is located in a very quiet area from one rail stop away from famous Hallstatt. it is little bit old, but they are working with renovation so it can be much better very soon on May24. There are not many places to eat outside and no shop, but there is bakery nearby and offers great choice of pastries. Very beautiful and scenery area, about 1,5km walk to the lake.

Property was undergoing renovation, therefore its was messy, a bit more of country living. Beds were hard and pillows were too flat. We could use a few more pillows. The staff were nice, but they’re not around after 6pm. So if you need anything you need to ask before that. The cafe next to the accommodation is really good. And the breakfast was awesome. So my reviews are mixed..

We had the best experience here! Staff was super friendly and helpful. The buffet lunch is absolutely amazing and they make everything in house every day. The rooms were cute and felt like we were in a little cabin. Can’t beat the price and waking up to the view is worth it enough. Would definitely come back!!!!

Atrocious service and a rundown hotel

This was probably the worst hotel I've ever stayed at, and I spend at least 1-2 nights per week in a hotel.

The service is atrocious. The staff do not speak any English - which is fine, but they made no effort to communicate with us. When we first checked in, they kept scrolling past our reservation and ignoring us when we told them they had missed us. Instead, they tried to insist we didn't have a reservation. Once we got this sorted out, they neglected to tell us that the whole hotel would be locked 9PM. They didn't give us a night key, so we almost got locked out - luckily my boyfriend found another customer who spoke both German and English, and he was able to translate. The staff then acted extremely annoyed at having to give us a house key. The best part is - when we tried to leave in the morning, the hotel was locked FROM THE INSIDE. So not only did they almost lock us out, they also almost LOCKED US IN. We tried asking staff for help multiple times, but they ignored us while pounding beers at the restaurant bar.

The rooms are run down. We had handles missing on furniture, sheets of questionable cleanliness, and windows that let bright light in due to sheer curtains. The walls were so thin that you could hear anything your neighbors were saying. The hotel is also a meat factory, so it reeks. On top of this, there is construction in Hallstatt so it takes 20-30 min to get there during daytime traffic, not 5.

In short... avoid this place.

Comfy stay surrounded by beautiful scenery

The hotel is situated close to Hallstatt and Postbus 542 is just outside the main road.

Cleanliness of the room is acceptable except that we found some hairs left by the previous occupants on the bed and hairdryer, as well as a half-drunk mineral water bottle on the table.

The room lacks sufficient outlets and I have to spent most of my time in the toilet charging and using my phone at the same time.

Breakfast is simple and not much of selections.

Overall we still have a enjoyable stay. Staffs are very friendly and check-in and out are super efficient.

Do not stay here

All that is on the windows are sheers. A bright flood light shone into my room all night long. It was so bright I did not need to turn a light on to get things out of my suitcase or walk to the bathroom. It was a horrible night, I was not able to sleep, and when other guests came in it was extremely loud, even with earplugs.

There was no staffs on site. Worst thing was the door was even closed and just a note saying the contact number for check in.
Since no staffs on site, it makes it very difficult for us to request extra pillows and blankets as the pillows are very thin and the weather was cold. We tried to call the same phone number for check in for several times, but no answer.
Lastly, we couldn't sleep at all because of thin bed and there was a constant creepy noise inside the hotel. Not sure where it comes from. May be the hotel just needs a renovation soon.
