Carla was very sweet and attentive, however the room was not great. Very run down, smelled of cigarettes and was freezing. The heating didn’t work so the room was colder inside than it was outside. We ended up leaving to head back from the trip early to avoid sleeping here.

You get what you pay for- an affordable stay but at what cost?

The staff is very sweet, so this is by no means a bad rating for them.

SHOULD BE CONDEMNED! DO NOT STAY HERE!

DO NOT STAY HERE! I read mixed reviews and lesson learned definitely look at the dates of the reviews. The picture is from a long time ago because it certainly doesn't look like this now. Everything is overgrown & it looks like it should be in a horror film. The steps to enter the home are not safe at all- there were holes going through so you couldn't step in certain areas. The stairs inside weren't much better- going up they were filthy. This place had not been cleaned in ages. The bottom floor is cordoned off with a filthy sheet and there was a terrible smell coming from the whole place that they were trying to cover up by cooking something in a small crockpot at the top of the stairs. My room had flies circling everywhere and at one time was probably a great place to stay but honestly this should not be listed as any sort of hotel at all as it seemed more like a health hazard. I have stayed at many rustic places but this one takes the cake. I went somewhere else and when I asked for my money back since I had just booked that morning I was told that was highly unlikely. So save yourself the trouble and do not even bother with this place.

Overall we’d recommend this place as an affordable place to lay your head in a really beautiful town. Others have mentioned that it’s an old house, and with that comes character and sometimes things you’re not used to. If old houses are your bag, this will suit you just fine.

It was conveniently located to downtown. Room was functional. Patio sitting quiet. The host was friendly and informative. There was no soap, shampoo and conditioner in the shower. The shower nozzle had to be hand held. And it lacked an extra blanket. A good choice for one night. It was functional.

Where to begin, upon arrival there are no indications saying the Penn Cove, appearance paint was peeling from building, step was uneven, opening door was greated with a bed sheet hanging off the wall, what looked like a dead rodent in the corner but was just accumulated dirt, smelled what I thought was smoke but was incense burning, stairs to second floor were carpeted but not vacummed windows in the room had a gap in them unable to close, toilet paper was hanging off the wall had no towels or pillow, pillow that was given appeared to have never been washed or cleaned.

This property should be removed from this site. The rooms advertised are not avaliable except one and it was disgusting. The building is falling apart and rotting. Broken windows. The dust, dirt, mold and mildew were so bad that in less than a minute my eyes and sinuses were blown up in allergic reaction. We were afraid to touch anything. Fixtures falling off the wall in the bathroom. Black mildew on the shower curtain. We fled as soon as we found a room in Oak Harbor. Just grabbed our bags and ran. The place was absolutely disgusting. Pictures are at least a decade old. Fire hazzards everywhere. There is no way the place is up to code. Basically a bait and switch. They shouldn't be allowed to keep our money. The Bates Motel would have been better.

Overpriced and Falsely Advertised

This listing should not even be on this site. It is a single \"cottage\" rental, so calling it a hotel in any way is incorrect. It's on the same property as the restaurant Phad Thai, and is presumably run by the same woman - who lives in the restaurant next door.

As for the cottage itself. The place had 2 beds - not a queen bed and a sofa bed, as advertised. The kitchenette shown in the pictures has next to nothing in it. There was a microwave, fridge, coffee pot, and electric kettle. No dishware is provided, and if you want coffee or tea you must bring your own supplies as none are provided either. There was an iron, but no ironing board in sight. As we were there for a wedding, this was unfortunate since we could've really used one. The bathroom has no latch, so best to be comfortable with anyone you stay with.

Calling this a smoke-free property is false. The owner smokes right outside the building and it drifts into the cottage. The place also smells as if it is smoked in regularly.

All in all, we had a very uncomfortable night and ended up finding other accommodations for the next evening, despite booking two nights at this location.

If you don't mind all of the downsides, it is in a very good location. It is within walking distance to a great pizza place and a coffee shop that is obviously frequented by locals. There are a couple state parks nearby with fantastic hikinh opportunities as well.

They had availability for a last minute booking - so I am appreciative there. The woman that met us to check in was very nice. That is why I was generous with 2 Stars.
The room itself was rough. There was a lingering smell - burnt plastic/burnt popcorn/cigarette smoke - that never left. Don't turn on the air purifier, it makes it worse. There was moldy food left in the fridge. The sheets looked clean, we didn't use the comforter. Overall, it served the purpose of needing a place to sleep. It has so much potential - but needs a deep clean, some maintenance, and maybe a little more TLC.

This property is shabby, bizarrely decorated if you could call it that, and dirty. Linens are dirty, shabby, and sparse. There was hair in the refrigerator and in several places in the rooms. Wicker furniture has grime in the grooves. There is a bad smell that I can't quite place - old cigarettes or just long term grime. The carpet is stained. We left after one night only because we had no alternative for the one night we did stay. The employee who greeted us was warm and helpful but the property is just in terrible shape and I'm sure it is not her fault.

The property is centrally located in Coupeville. It is a bit dated, but clean and an excellent value compared to much more expensive options in this town. Carla, our housekeeper, was lovely and flexible with our needs. She also gave each of us a breakfast gift card for a coffee place on the same block, which turned out to be a great breakfast spot.

The room was supposed to be smoke free and it reeked of smoke. The owner’s pit bull was in the room when we arrived. The carpet was dirty, the screen door was broken, the bedding and towels were old and didn’t match, coffee maker but no coffee, no tissue, the breakfast was a gift card to a restaurant and was only for $7.00. I was so glad to leave in the morning.

No sign of anyone around, and no visible means of entry, when we first arrived. It had a (falling apart) sign for a Pad Thai restaurant on the front lawn, but nothing for Penn Cove Inn. Quite run-down looking. Main surface areas clean (ish), but not corners. Smelled faintly of old cigarette smoke, although fortunately not strong enough to trigger the asthma. Found the sign for the Inn at side yard, hidden behind fence and broken into 2 pieces. We had to ask about the \"breakfast\" and were given 2 gift cards for Sunshine Drip Cafe. Not sure we would have been given anything had we not asked. The cards were to have $7 on each, but one had only $1.15. The cafe honoured it for the full $7 anyway. I got the impression from the survey markers, as well as the dilapidated state of the house and cottage, that this is a property that is going to be re-imagined. Having said all that, I have stayed in worse places.

I had made reservations months ago for the cottage and another room. I had been staying there for a week when, literally at the last second, was told the cottage wasn't available. They did give my daughter a nice room inside the other building, but that isn't the point. They told me the cottage was unavailable. I was looking forward to having room to spread out, a frig in the room, air conditioning, somewhere to sit to visit, etc. I also know for a fact that they rented the cottage out to someone else, as I talked to the people who were staying there. I felt screwed around and did not get what I had booked and paid for. Had they just been up front and honest with me, I might have felt better about not getting what I had booked. The dishonesty and last minute change left me no other option but to take the other room. This is not acceptable, but I was backed into a corner, and this is not a nice way to do business!

Had a hard 480 mile drive and needed a good nights sleep. This hit the spot. Very quiet and clean. We didn't need TV, microwave, fridge or any other modern crap. This is a 136 year old house, and it was shaded and quiet. No creaky floors. Bed was firm, just a full bed which suited us fine. We would stay here again.

If you can't find anything else, this place will suffice for sleeping and showering. The woman I interacted with was VERY kind (or I'd have given it one star.) Good points: the convenient location, comfortable bed, decent water pres sure. Bad points: Everything else. I stayed in the T.H. White Cabin.The screen door banged relentlessly in the wind, waking me over and over. The curtains don't reach the windowsill and the porch light glares through. The dresser drawer was full of dead bugs, and the other dresser's drawers had no bottoms: the furniture was mostly crap. The vacuum was sitting in the corner (I suppose I could have cleaned up those bugs.) There were weird random items on the shelves, toys, stuffed animals, thrift store junk. The kitchen had a few plates and glasses but zero bowls, knives, cutting boards or anything else you'd need to actually use it. The tea kettle was slathered in grime. I was provided with one partial roll of TP and had to go searching for a second roll. For a \"B&B,\" this was just a B. No food offered, hardly anyone to be found around the place. Several days into my stay I asked the nice woman and was given a few $7 gift cards to a nearby coffee shop. Kind though she was, she sat nearby and smoked a lot, which wafted in my windows. Everything about the grounds was run down and seedy, things just left around evidently for weeks, somebody's shoes abandoned on the lawn with weeds growing through them. Skip this unless you are desperate.

The room, shower, bath, etc, were very clean. Jacob's room is literally at the front of the house on the street. Doors didn't shut correctly or lock. Doors inside had to be wrestled to be opened. Towels were threadbare and rough, and were delivered in a tied up grocery sack on the front porch when we got back from our evening out. I appreciate that it wasn't terribly expensive (approx 100/night) and I'm not expecting Egytian Cotton towels or doors with chains... but a door that closes securely, towels that are actually somewhat absorbent, and an acknowledgement that the room is street front and attached to the building that contains the local Thai restaurant before arriving woud have let me know what we were walking into.

The lady who checked me in was super nice and kind. As for the room, the stairs and hallways had stuff all over, it wasn’t super clean, and the bedspread was dirty. I did not have warm water for the shower 2 of the 3 days, and the day I did have some, it only lasted 5 min. I wouldn’t bring my family here to stay, but it was ok for just me to have a place to sleep only. The bed was comfortable. The sheets were clean. The property itself was cute and landscaped nicely. It was in a peaceful area of town, close to downtown Coupeville, and deer walked through the yard in the mornings.

This is a run down house, with little to offer for a comfortable nights stay. There was no toilet paper in the bathroom. We found a supply closet and snagged TP there. Bed sagged in middle. Couldn't find entrance. Door locked. Only good thing was TV and cheap price.

Bed was definitely not a queen size as advertised. There were extension cords everywhere and it reminded me of a spiderweb. You even had to move a cord out of the way to open the mini fridge. Huge trip hazard. The couple running the place was friendly, but the place was poorly ran. I messaged the host about the bathroom light and wall outlets that had “tripped” while we were there only to receive a text that said an electrician was there working on it. No heads up or anything. The light/outlets never came back on during our stay. The windows won’t close so be prepared to be woken up by the street cleaner noise before the sun comes up. Last, I hope you like the smell of curry because a Thai food restaurant is downstairs and the smell never leaves the room. Ok place to lay your head if you are desperate, but I’d look elsewhere

Photos on website were not representative of the actual lodgings. My room was not even in the main house but in addition at the back. The bathroom had kitchen-style cabinets and sink, toilet and shower. The towels and bedding were clean but had seen a better day. There was no soap of any kind. The property was not being well maintained. I would not recommend this as a place to stay.

The cottage was cozy and picturesque: old storefront presentation with wicker bench, a chair and pillows on a sunny porch and a little garden. The interior decor was charming and inviting. Appreciated the toaster, coffee-maker, microwave and refrigerator. Having wi-fi and a TV with many stations was a plus. Parking couldn't have been easier. The main street is a very short walk away. Could stand new carpet. We really enjoyed our stay, especially for the welcoming and helpful hostess!

The owners were very nice and responsive. I wasn’t certain when I’d arrive, so when I finally appeared a lady quickly came and got me to my room. The AC worked well and the Wi-Fi was good. The TV had a good selection of channels.
Similar to what others have written, the patio room I stayed in was really not a traditional hotel room, but it was all functional. I thought the cleanliness of the room was good and I didn’t see any safety concerns other than the door being a bit flimsy….but I wasn’t concerned because the room is rather hidden and I doubt that anyone would go so off the beaten path to try to steal anything.
I went during a high season, so I thought that the price was a fair deal.

Just a small note for future inn-goers -- there was no signage for this inn, so definitely check the address. Make sure that you have contact with someone who works there, although in my experience, they contacted me on the day of. Carla was extremely kind and responsive, and worked with me to make sure that I was able to check-in at a time that worked for my trip schedule. She made sure that I was set up in the room (lots of fans in case it got hot, bath necessities, extra blankets) and made sure that I was able to work the keys before she left. They also very kindly left me some credit to use at the local coffee/gift shop, which was lovely and highly recommended. It was perfect for what I was looking for -- a place to lay down at night during a quick weekend trip at Whidbey!

Not a true B&B, but 2 rooms at the top of a stair with a Thai restaurant on the first floor. Breakfast was a couple gift cards to the coffee shop up the street-it was nice. There were cobwebs on the ceiling and spiders in the room. There was no non-slip in the tub and my wife almost fell. Windows were old single pane glass. Extension cords were run everywhere and a fire hazard. The only heat was space heaters run to an extension cord. The hair dryer and bathroom light above sink did not work. The electrician had instructed to keep the panel off as something was making the breaker trip, but no repairs seemed to be planned. No TV.

The wisteria cottage is a stand alone unit adjacent to the main house, offering privacy. The staff is helpful and available via text and we had no problems. There is a smokey scent within the unit, but the inn provides an air purifier and plenty of fans. Had a very comfortable stay!

So grubby I could write an essay

We were told we couldn’t see room until it was ‘clean’ due to COVID restrictions. Not only did our room have a candle burning for probably 6 or 7 hours unattended; it was FILTHY. Not to mention the wrong room ! Not the Wisteria room which cost fifty dollars extra.
I could see how this place had potential but it was so sticky and dirty and un stocked.

This is not an “Inn” it is a room for rent. There are three rooms at the top of the stairs. One room was blocked by a mattress, the other looked like a hoarder stayed there. The room we were in was clean, but the electricity wasn’t working, so extension cords were run up the steep stairs and into the room-very unsafe (fire and tripping hazard). There needs to be a safety/licensing review.

Did not stay the room was dirty, one of the beds was broken, refrigerator was unclean, and smelled of smoke, rugs were dirty.
Carla was very nice, but went to another place. Would not recommend this property at all.

The room is not what is shown in the picture. It is behind the house and there are closed and no trespassing signs. Strange neighbor. Kitchen is in the same area as the toilet.

We walked into a dirty courtyard ie garbage old rug hanging on fence, lots of cats. Open the door to smoke odor, saggy bed , holey carpet. DID NOT STAY. Hope to be reimbursed!!!

I left. Didn't stay. She got a microwave for me that she said would be new in the box, but when it came that wasn't the case and when I opened it out was dirty and I had nothing to clean it with. The room was fairly clean but had few outlets so needed many extension cords connected together and strung around. The place is run down and on top of that I didn't get a key and the contact didn't answer when I tried. Left my prepaid money, called around for accommodations for that night and the next and finally found a fabulous place. So I paid twice for my 2-night stay. Oh, and the rooms are on the second floor and the stairs are VERY long and steep so bringing things in and out is quite a chore.

They should not be renting that out because it is part of a major renovation that’s going on there. It was OK for being by myself. But it smelled like smoke and there was garbage all over the outside. Anyone else would’ve not stayed there. I feel like it was very deceiving and people should know. Luckily I was able to be gone all day and only had to sleep there. I would love to get some kind of credit or refund because basically what you say and on your site is a complete lie.

This house is dilapidated and the bedroom we were in needs major updating. The bedding was from the last century, the mattress super thin, the room very small, the shower old, though I must admit that we slept well. The good points are that it is quiet and very close to the center of town. As it is, the cost of this place should not be over $40 a night. No breakfast whatsoever.

Interior is a bit dated, but completely comfortable with TV, microwave, refrigerator. There was an island- wide power outage and the manager brought me a flashlight, candles, extra blankets...she was very thoughtful.

DON’T GO!!! I couldn’t even stay there! There’s no sign and certainly this is not an “ Inn”. It’s a dilapidated old house with a couple small smelly rooms adjacent to a restaurant ( so you can listen to chopping through the thin walls).Misc junk strewn around the property. The bed was a box spring with a bit of foam on top. Carpets full of stains and room smelled like “ room freshener” so strong! So yucky that I just left and cut my trip short. Can’t believe this place is on your site!

The house was old and worn out. Eleven floor, no ice, no breakfast on site and especially no bars of soap in tiny kitchen area or bathroom. There was junk laying about in yard. I stay at a hotel to get a good night of sleep and the beds were very uncomfortable. The area was great
