The rooms are minimal. Not even options for USB charging let alone a microwave or tv. The rustic charm is fine, but then we were stuck listening to both neighbors do what people do in romantic hotels, loudly. Walls seem paper thin in a long cabin exterior. The space was nice but bathroom was \"quirky\" small in not a good way. The state was nice, helpful even. The restaurant options are ridiculous as are the breakfast choices. Nothing is simple or easy. The grounds are very well kept. Parking was convenient and available. Rooms access is easy too.

The room was spotless and the bed was comfortable. The staff were all so helpful and friendly. The food was very good. The only negative is the noise level in the room. The white noise machine helped to drown out most of the noise from other rooms, but the heavy footsteps of our neighbor kept us up. Otherwise a lovely stay.

Such a beautiful old historic lodge. It was super great for nostalgic purposes. Beautiful view of Penn Cove from our room, superb cocktails and dessert from the bar, roaring fireplace in the lounge, clean and spacious shared bathrooms. Slow bar and dessert service from the lounge but to be fair there were only 3 women serving the entire very busy restaurant. Front desk was very efficient. It was fun to explore the well maintained grounds. We will always stay here anytime we visit anywhere on Whidbey Island and will definitely recommend it to friends.

We stayed in a lagoon room. Our room did not have any bolsters on the daybed, so the only place to sit in the room was effectively on the kingbed, which is wierldly low to the ground. There is a wooden bench, which is fine for putting your luggage on it but would be cruel to expect someone to relax upon it. I would suggest they change out the daybeds for a sofabed. There was no fridge in the room despite the nor throw blanket on the bed,altho the pretty pictures indicated there might be.

I can't speak to the quality of the food, we were unable to eat dinner saturday or sunday brunch as we had no reservation, and a full breakfast was not available on monday morning, although they did have a small takeout coffee bar with limited number of items.

The setting is wonderful and want to relax with a book in the outdoor chairs this is the perfect spot.

Overall, a unique experience and would do it again on a special occasion! But for the cost, especially during the low season, there isn't a lot to do. The sauna is for only a couple of people at a time, and the restaurant and cocktails were too pricey to eat there for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. But the property itself is beautiful and so serene. We really enjoyed the fire pits in the evening as well.

The hotel is very rustic and like being in a log cabin. Dining conveniently located on the premises. The restaurant is very good. Staff are very pleasant and helpful. The bed was very comfortable. The room was pretty basic. My main reason for not giving 5 star was that you can hear the other guests next door. Fortunately, they quieted down around 11.

Absolutely LOVED this place. It is a gem and we will definitely be back. Everyone was so welcoming and caring with us and our kids especially. It’s cozy and dreamy and perfect. The good is excellent as are the drinks. I was especially impressed that when I called at 9p to ask if there was a paid laundry service available, after 6 days of stinky camping and two large bags to clean, I was shocked when Sunya offered to clean them during her night shift for free as a courtesy. The next morning everything was neatly folded and we were so grateful.

My dinner was great.
The room left a lot to be desired, e.g. very small, bad lighting - not enough to read a book, no room to put my suitcase, so TV, no desk, small sink, toilet and shower down the hall - and all for $250 a night. I wasn't expecting a lot because it's a 'resort', but I was expecting a lot more than what I paid for.

It's a wooden lodge atmosphere in a beautiful location. Room in separate building from main lodge had a great view, patio with chairs, large common deck area with rocking chairs. Desk staff was good. Store was great. Restaurant offering was atrocious and didn't match cost tier. Extremely salty prawn cake, pickled mess side, and tiny Halibut offering woefully cooked. Excellent bread to start was worth appetizer price point.

Was not aware that our room had shared bathrooms with all the other rooms on the upper floor of the historic building. I was also surprised at the condition of our room, floor sloping away and rustic walls. We planned to eat at the hotel restaurant during our stay but no one told us you needed a reservation, so we had to wait for 2 hrs until 7:45pm to eat. It would have been nice to know at check in, on the check in papers or for it to show on the website that you need a reservation for the restaurant.

Rustic historical hotel, friendly service. Very set in doing things a traditional way. When checking in, even though there was six of us in line, the single check in person gave the lengthy speech to each of us, exactly the same even though we near the end of the line heard it several times by then. It would be better to shorten the talk and improve by digitalization or better written communication.

Oh my this was this such a wonderful experience! Wish we would have had another night! Food was delicious, the service was excellent and the bed was so cozy. Had a lagoon facing room. Loved it! May try the historic lodge next time as I took a look at the rooms which were as pictured. The hallway upstairs has space to relax. I understand the upstairs facilities better now and will book the room accordingly next time. We enjoyed climbing on the tree net while listening to nature after our lovely dinner.

The Expedia system did not reveal that the room had a shared bathroom (the floor actually!) which definitely changed the tenor of our stay. We got the “cheap seats” with not only the shared toilet but the restaurant hood fan outside our window filling the room with smells and our room located above the front desk where audible conversations could be heard in the early hours. The staff was lovely (especially the bar) but the hospitality missed restocking the complimentary beverage station (no water or cocoa). It felt like we were camp counselors! If you like quirky and mildly uncomfortable for a relative high rate, you will love it!

On the National Registry of Historic Places. G8T. Did not know bathrooms were community type down the hall. Also treated nicely upon checkin but NOT told the men’s room on our floor was closed for repair! So not convienent for bathroom use in middle of night nor shower ability. Shame on management not to mention this! Also full menu not available our night’s stay. The small plate menu was however Superb with pleasant service. Kudos to the chef!

Don’t order crab Mac n cheese

My husband left his sunglasses in the room. We called to have them shipped and they said they were not in the room. He specifically remembers where he put them. The staff in the lounge was great. The crab Mac n cheese was 2 tablespoons of food for $25. There was only one bathroom to share for 12 rooms. Not just 12 people, 12 rooms. They did not mention the other bathroom was under construction when we booked. The grounds are nice and pretty, but they do not seem to care about their guests needs.

The property is well maintained while still giving a natural a warm and natural experience. Our room was cozy with knotty pine ceiling and paneling. The view from the big window overlooking the lawn, gazebo, and Penn Cove was so peaceful. I've been to Whidbey countless times over the past 30 years to stay weekends with my parents. Now that they've moved off island, we're so grateful to know Captain Whidbey is here to welcome us whenever we're feeling nostalgic. We look forward to longer stays as well. Those cabins look mighty inviting!

My husband and I stayed here for a night. The property is nice. The staff was nice. There are a couple things I wish I knew before that might help others who are looking to stay here. Firstly they charge you an extra 200 dollar deposit. That will be given back but you wont see it back in your bank for a couple days. I think that is a bit excessive. If you stay in the rooms that share a bathroom be prepared to share with 13 other rooms. Only 1 shower in the women's bathroom and two toilets. It was annoying and hard to get in the shower on check out day.

Loved staying there, gonna live there when we win the lottery. Gourmet s’mores! A deer wandered by within a few feet of me while I was lounging with a book near the lagoon. A hummingbird tried to come into our room. A sea lion spent half the day sunning himself on the dock. Beautiful woods. Clean, comfortable cabin. (With books!) Tasty food and libations. Friendly and helpful staff. 13 out of 10, can’t wait to go back.

The property was nice and clean. The restaurant was ok. The room was very basic with no amenities (old cheep furniture and creep weird pictures) or bathrooms. We were the only ones on the whole floor and they had bathrooms in the hallway for all rooms. The hallway restrooms were nice and updated with 3 sinks, 2 toilets, but only 1 shower. So if there is anyone else on the floor, you would have to wait to take a shower. Overall, it was ok. I would not spend that much money for what you get again.

Although the property is super cute and rustic, I felt that for the price, they could have tried a little harder. We arrived at 4pm to a chilly lobby...I asked if they were going to light the fire. The response I got was 'You can ask the front desk.'
Then after dinner, we wanted to sit by the fire which was almost out - we asked the staff for more wood, which she went to get, but then plonked it down beside the fireplace. I don't know - cozy getaway is your whole vibe, but no one seemed to be aware of that.
We really did like the Inn because it was unique...but there are a few tiny things you can do to make it so much better.
Last point - you have shared bathrooms - which are totally cute. BUT, the bin in the women's washroom was overflowing the whole time we were there...
I'll assume there is a staffing issue, like everywhere else in the world, but if the staff you do have focused a bit on the finer details, it would have been perfect!

Dinner was amateurish and not up to our expectations. No breakfast other than a little store that sold muffins, bagels and some refrigerated goods. No housekeeping on our second day -- we were faced with a pile of wet towels in our room. The hotel was making lots of execuses about Covid but I think the real problem was a ultra thin staff and a very poor working relationship between employees and management. Not representative of a hotel that claims to rate 3 stars.

Captain Whidbey is a gorgeous property with some of the best views of Penn Cove. Its always wonderful to visit this location-- the inn itself needs some improvements that are easy to do.
