Nice room, felt safe and cozy with everything I needed to hand. The breakfast was delicious and very reasonably priced - service was slightly chaotic but I found it endearing. Just leave plenty of time. Great location as an easy walk to the sea front and shops etc.

Don’t hesitate.

Florence House hotel is a fantastic place to stay. We only wished it was for longer. It’s a boutique hotel and everything is just perfect.

Hotel is well situated close to the beach. We stayed at the end of the summer and so the seasons wear and tear starting to show. Paid for breakfast but was notified that “speciality coffee” (from a machine) would be an extra charge which was surprising. Staff were friendly and attentive

Great spot to enjoy Portsmouth/Southsea

The room was lovely, we had everything we needed. Good breakfast choices for vegetarians (and non). Great location between Southsea sea front and Albert Road (for restaurants etc), plus walkable to the train station and central Portsmouth.

Me and my husband stayed for Easter weekend and we had a fabulous time. The hotel is just couple blocks from the beach excellent location.Hotel is fantastic, all the room and the restaurant is amazing, staff is very friendly and helpful.I am vegetarian and lots of options food for vega and very fresh and delicious meals. We will definitely going back again.

Good Hotel!

There were no issues with our stay. We had a nice bedroom, bathroom and lovely breakfasts!
The only issue we had was that we arrived at the hotel about 2.00pm but were told check-in was 3.00pm. I know from a previous call that our room was not being used the night before so why not allow guests in a little earlier!

Southsea gem

The hotel is split across multiple properties, all are very close to one another.
There is NO lift and service of rooms needs to be requested.
Room 2 in Florence Gardens building is a VERY small double. In the same building room 3 is large and quite pretty. Room 4 is slightly larger than room 2.
In the Somerset building the rooms have very tall ceilings so take a while to warm through - reception are happy to provide extra heaters and blankets though should you need them.
Lovely staff, and convenient for a walk to Gunwharf Quays/ Old Portsmouth if you feel like it.

Gem on the sea-front

Perfect location for sea front and high Street for food and drink.
Only 5 off-road parking spaces which i was lucky enough to get one. You can get a free parking permit from reception.
Staff were all lovely. The ladies in the restaurant were very friendly and professional and nothing was too much trouble.
Breakfast was lovely as was dinner, you must try the food, it's all good.
Rooms are spacious and very well decorated.
Will definitely stay here again.

Good stay. Very comfortable bed and bedroom. Bathroom very small with ability to use the sink difficult. The only place to put your make up on with a mirror and light is the door to the bathroom but there is no shelf so have to balance items on the bin. Breakfast very tasty but really small round breakfast tables and you can’t get everything on very well.

We were a bit disappointed with our stay in as much parking was an issue so once we were parked up we didn't move the car until going the next day. The pillows were awful really cheap quality and although clean our room was a little tired. We booked based on all the good reviews and felt a little underwhelmed when shown to our room.

Very cute hotel located in a nice quiet area of Portsmouth/ Southsea. The staff were very friendly and helpful especially the receptionist who showed me all the way to my room. Breakfast is ordered of the menu and cooked for you and was genuinely good.

The comfort of the room was a completely other thing. It seems like the building is a converted residential house and not enough work has been done structurally. There is no sound proofing at all, you can hear every single other guest at the property at any one time. The man in the room above you goes to the toilet and it sounds like they are in your room. Whenever someone walks up the stairs the walls creak and you hear exactly what they say. You can follow the movements and conversations of everyone else on property from the comfort of your own bed. Sleep as a result was genuinely poor.

The bathroom was small (no issue at all as it was well laid out) but saw hairs in the shower which wasn’t too appetising.

As much as I would have loved to enjoy the hotel, I had a horrible night of sleep and will be sure to book something else next time I’m in town.

Visit friends & Historic dockyard.

We needed an accommodation near to Portsmouth's Historic Dockyard and also relatives in Fareham. Florence Gardens could not have been better. We were travelling with my wife's sister and brother in law and booked two Executive King rooms. Both were huge, beautifully decorated, and charmingly furnished - modern but in character.

The staff were all charming, attentive and polite. The inclusive breakfast had everything, and you could easily have eaten enough to last a very active day and still struggle to finish an evening meal.

Talking food I must also praise the Florence Inn, their Bistro bar and restaurant just along from the hotel. Again charmingly appointed and staffed, the \"light\" lunch we had the afternoon we arrived could have served as dinner.

The Mercer Collection of hotels all clustered together around the junction of Malvern Road and Florence Road are quite superb and I would happily stay at any of them again based on this one visit.


I would also add and compliment, The Portsmouth Historic Dockyard, it is worth every penny and minute spent there, but by an annual inclusive ticket, you'll never do it in a day. This trip was a return on last years ticket and we spent a further two days there.

I would also recommend the \"Old Customs House\" Bar and Restaurant (just off Gunwharf Quay) - great food, drink and staff. Also the Italian Bar and Grill in the middle of Southsea - huge platefuls and again wonderful staff.

Average.

This is a slightly strange place. A series of houses with different entrances accessed by ringing a bell and being buzzed in. The receptionists give you a parking permit and come out into the street to find a parking place for you.
Our room was average . We had booked a king sized bed , but it was a queen bed, when I pointed this out the receptionist told me that in the U.K. a queen bed is a king bed . Has anyone else ever heard of this ??

Best collection of hotels in Portsmouth

Excellent value for a quaint boutique hotel. It was cheaper than many of the budget hotels and included breakfast and free parking. Room was small but had everything you could want and was well decorated. Wife said the bed was uncomfortable for her but I found it fine, no complaints here. Service was friendly and with a smile.
Only negative was the breakfast selection was small although I suppose in proportion with the size of the hotel and we asked for 4 poached eggs and all 4 came out hard boiled. Saying that in the evening dinner looked lovely although we didn’t eat there.
Certainly will stay here again on our next trip to Portsmouth without any shadow of a doubt.

Perfect, pre-Christmas get away in Southsea

Brilliant stay at Florence Gardens, everything about this place is perfect. Lovely greeting art reception and staff could not be more helpful, walking to room, explaining parking spaces, booking taxis or reserving dinner at the Florence arms. Breakfast and dinner were excellent quality and again all staff were really friendly. Room was tastefully furnished, bed was comfortable and bathroom facilities spot on.
The hotel is located a short walk to Southsea front with the piers. Nice fresh walk on a winter's day to clear the cobwebs. We arranged a taxi to Gunwharf Quays which was only 10 mins away with plenty of shopping, leisure attractions and places to eat.

Florence Garden experience

Brilliant from check in to check out. The staff were very friendly and efficient, with excellent breakfasts. We ate at the Florence Arms just round the corner which again was very good. we hope to come back to Portsmouth again and will certainly be staying at one of the Florence hotels.

lovely place, close to everything

when my original idea to visit South of England as part of a tour group fell through because they wouldn't accomodate my need for a room of my own as a single traveller, I decided to plan my own getaway. I was lucky to find Florence Gardens. Extremely well maintained, clean and with friendly, helpful staff. Breakfast was very very good. Perfectly cooked eggs and no excessive grease! Perfect start for activity filled days.
The location was ideal as well. easy walk to the waterfront, to access all the attractions there. Or take a short taxi trip for shopping etc. Would definitely stay again if I was in the area.
