Room was lovely, felt like home and the facilities were great and the availability of food round the clock was great. The only let down was that we initally had no hot water when running the bath and shower. We reported this and maintaince came and said we had to run the water for 15 plus minutes first. This worked but by the time the next person needed to use it, it was cold again and we had to do the same thing which meant we lost a lot of time doing this each and everytime we needed to use the shower which was frustating especailly when coming from using the gum and pool. When the water did heat up it was luke warm. On the 2nd day we ran the water for over half an hour and it was still freezing cold, this was the day of check out so time was limited we even paid for late check out but it still did not heat up in time. We reported it to staff but were just told they would tell maintaince but it was not sorted by the time we had to check out which was frustrating. Such a shame as it was a lovely and peaceful place to stay but this tainted the experience and the lack of support from staff to resolve this was disappointing.

The rooms were very dusty and tiles in bathroom could do with some mould spray and a scrub. We had trouble getting robes and slippers sent to the room and then when they sent them they forgot slippers and 1 of the robes and we was nearly late for our treatment as was told to wait in our rooms for them. Reception team could have been more welcoming and smiley.

NO HOT WATER. Cheap fatty bacon, ran out of coffee and an ineffective toaster at breakfast. Had to ask three times for a jug of water with our evening meal but got our alcoholic drinks ordered delivered twice. Dirty, worn sofas in the lounge with holes in the Upholstery. I recently stayed at the East Sussex National Golf Hotel and came away genuinely impressed. The hotel was exceptionally clean throughout, which immediately set a positive tone. My room was bright, comfortable, and far more inviting than many local alternatives. Although I could see a patch of roof damage from the window, it only made a minor visual impact and didn’t detract from the overall experience.

The staff were a particular highlight. Every interaction made it clear that they are well trained, attentive, and committed to delivering great service. Even with some ongoing building works visible from the dining room, the atmosphere remained relaxed and pleasant.

One feature that stood out above almost every hotel I’ve visited was the air conditioning system—quiet, efficient, and remarkably effective. Combined with the general peacefulness of the hotel, it made for an excellent night’s rest.

Having stayed at many hotels in the area, including frequent visits to Ashdown Park, I can confidently say the East Sussex National has several advantages. The rooms feel brighter, fresher, and more welcoming, contributing to a more enjoyable overall stay.

Would I recommend it? Absolutely. Despite a few cosmetic issues outside, it’s a high-quality, comfortable, and very well-run hotel that’s well worth a visit.

Great well equipped gym, huge pool, sauna and steamer all included in room rate for you to use at no extra price. Staff were all so polite and friendly. Grounds and golf course were beautiful with fabulous views from the restaurants. Breakfast was buffet style with hot and cold selections and you had so much to choose from, couldn’t fault anything the eggs were amazing. We also had a meal in their grill restaurant faultless service and food was delicious. We will 100% be coming back for another trip.

We are at a local pub but getting a taxi was a real pain. We were given a list of taxi services by the reception staff and asked to organise ourselves. The hotel should have a contract with a reliable firm as this was not a great start to our stay. Otherwise the hotel was very nice and a great setting. The room was a good size and very comfortable. Buffet breakfast was fine apart from lazy parents allowing kids to run around. We decided to eat in the Hunnington restaurant at the hotel on the second evening and that was an excellent decision. The food was fabulous and the service was equally as good. Madeline was a superstar. The facilities are really good and a great place for a relaxing stay, notwithstanding selfish parents and lack of taxis.

I loved the quietness and how clean the place looked its my 4th time this year. I booked a classic not knowing i booked a disabled wet room so that wasnt correct in the write up when is states a bath/shower. Went to get a drink of lemonade and it tasted like soda water and it was like dirty water. Next thing couldnt open the windows all locked. Then went to have a shower no shampoo or conditioner in the pots provided. Lucky we brought our own. Overall it wasnt a great experience this time round.

We stayed for two nights in order to attend a wedding in Hailsham. The hotel’s at a spacious area and pleasant surroundings.

The checkin was speedy. We were pleasantly surprised about how spacious and comfortable and clean our room was.

The way the bed was ‘decorated’ gave us the feeling of a welcoming gesture from the hotel. Everywhere in the room is spotless and the decoration is warm and refreshing.

We were served by a lovely lady at the restaurant where we dined although the food was nicely presented, couple of the dishes did not quite matched the rest of the offer of the hotel. Nevertheless, we loved the bread rolls and the service.

The health club is amazing with everything to the highest level of quality level.

The checkout was fast. The lobby is huge with many seats for guests to enjoy chats and relax with friends and families with some beverages on the comfy seats.

I think people play golf will like to stay here. Very spacious lobby and a nice bar. Room overlooking the golf course offers a spectacular view. Bed is comfortable. However, the coffee mugs are always dirty with stains.

This has to rank as one of the best hotels we have ever stayed at (including holidays abroad). The room was incredible, it was one of the luxury suites. Every little thing had been thought of to make the stay as comfortable as possible.
Staff were very helpful and polite. They really added to the experience.
As for the leisure facilities the pool has to be the best I’ve seen for a hotel spa. Add to that a jacuzzi, steam room and sauna what more could you want.
We’ll be looking for any excuse at all to return.

Lovely luxury rooms. WiFi was slow

The luxury rooms are beautiful and spacious. Few things that needed improvement are cleanliness of the pool area. The Wi-Fi was quite slow
and the shower gel and shampoo are in a bottle that is attached to a wall in the shower so it can challenging to use those in the bath.

Perfect stay, bedroom really big, bed so comfortable and all presented beautiful and spotlessly clean. Lovely Espa products in bathroom. White fluffy towels. And silent.
All staff were friendly and professional.
Used the spa and had a massage. Great massage and fabulous facilities.
My only reason for a 4 star was the food. We ate in the bar, after waiting 40 mins we asked about our order and the kitchen had forgotten to make it but when it did arrive it was very nice.
Buffet breakfast a bit disappointing, although hot the sausages and bacon were undercooked, sausages looked anemic, mushrooms were slimy. Hash browns were nice and the honey presentation was lovely. The hostess at the front was attentive and friendly

For a £100 per night we were given a disabled bathroom when we neither asked nor needed it which was also extremely grotty.
The shower chair was covered in grime & both the bathroom & room proper were both in desperate need of redecorating.
The foyer lovely, the bar area okay but the room, very sub-standard & definitely NOT worth the price we paid.
Would I stay there again, NO. My advice, find somewhere else…

Beautiful spacious rooms

We had the luxury room and it was really spacious! Amazing value for the price.

Areas of improvement are the length of time it took to get the room refreshed. If you are staying over then the rooms are done last.

The amenities are also nailed to the wall in the shower so they are difficult to use in the bath. Reception gave me some spares.

The pool area can get quite busy. (It’s more family swim vibes than a very relaxing spa). That is probably dependant on time and day of the week.
For the price it’s an excellent hotel and I really recommend.

A good hotel

This hotel is reliable and comfortable with large rooms and great views. The hotel is undergoing refurbishment and there's a bit of disruption from that. I was in an older room and it is showing its age a bit.

Friendly staff and lovely entrance to the hotel. The room was comfortable and clean. However the breakfast bowls and glasses had marks on them (stubborn porridge oats not removed when cleaned and this was on several bowls). Breakfast - you could have items cooked fresh which was lovely. The pool was very cold and steam/sauna very busy. Hard to get taxis into town - only two uber drivers in the area. Liked Amira’s Kitchen (local Indian restaurant) and Relish (Turkish restaurant). Ate locally as hotel lacked atmosphere. Hotel undergoing renovations which is needed.

My paper didn’t arrive the first morning
The sausages were on the turn the first morning. When I pointed this out this out it was challenged! I am a head chef and know what I’m talking about. The bathroom in my room was lovely and kept clean. However the room itself although comfortable appears tired one worn with marked carpet and could certainly do with an uplift.

Pleasant stay but hotel past it’s best

Hotel reception and welcome was very nice. The room was a nice size but it’s a little dated and the bed was far too soft and was actually 2 singles beds pushed together so I didn’t sleep well. Great golf course on-site though. I played both courses and thoroughly enjoyed them.
