Stayed one night as going to a wedding locally the next day. On arrival realised that my Mum’s room was a long walk away, she has some mobility issues. Room was changed straight away to something much closer to everything. Staff at reception, in bar, restaurant & at breakfast all friendly & helpful. Evening meal & breakfast great & good value. Everywhere was really clean. Only downside was room was a little tired re decorating. But it looked like things were happening, as bar & restaurant area all good. If you’re looking in this area would highly recommend.

Greene King's Roebuck satisfactory.
For me, a materials recycling facility - as provided in most Travelodge outlets - would have been welcome.
Nonetheless East Grinstead remains quite pleasant today still.
However, as a 'here today, gone tomorrow' visitor, the first opportunity I had to responsibly dispose of my recyclables was in the Dry Mixed Recycling facility on Leeds station.

The Roebuck has lot of character and offers a different property to the chain boxes. The staff are very good food is good, Rooms are clean and have everything you need. Located close to AA Milnes 100 acre wood the setting for Winnie the Pooh. Excellent value for money and a place i will use again

Room was clean but very tired as was the building in general . Breakfast was plenty but cooked breakfast was not fresh as in sausages were hard to cut and bacon crispy and dry . Have stayed there many times in the past, it’s a lovely building in style but unfortunately hasn’t been lovingly cared for by Greene King brewery. Shower was hot and quite powerful but no shower/bath mat available was a case of do I break anything on my body trying to climb out of bath as so slippery

We had a really pleasant stay here for the night while visiting local attractions. The room was very clean, quiet and well-maintained. Some areas were in the need of updating but still good. We had the dinner, bed and breakfast deal, and everything was delicious. Good value for money, staff that were friendly and welcoming, and plenty of parking available.

Our room was spacious and clean with good facilites including a hairdryer and an iron, however it was dated and and could definitely do with being renovated. The bed was very soft and didnt suit me but that is a question of preference. We had a lovely dinner with friends. We all chise the Sunday roast and it was excellent. The service was a bit hit and miss but overall we enjoyed the meal.Excellent breakfast menu with lots of choices and staff were very welcoming. Lots of free parking which is an added bonus. My biggest gripe was that we arrived with two heavy suitcases and we are both in our sixites and had to lug them up flights of stairs and along corridors as there is no lift. Overall we enjoyed our stay and it wasnt too expensive, it is a lovely old building with lots of character but it definitely needs some tlc.

Pleasant but needs updating in places

Upon check-in we were asked if we wanted breakfast unfortunately breakfast was only served till 9 am both myself and my daughter have chronic fatigue and health issues therefore early mornings are not great for us maybe if it had been offered a little later it may have been something we would have taken however, breakfast was not an issue so it wasn’t a problem.
I did say that on a lot of bookings for this hotel it states breakfast is free. I was met with quite a firm not at this hotel ! It is £12.50 per person, which I thought the answer was a little rude given it clearly states on many platforms as free breakfast there was no issue as we were not requiring breakfast but I do feel that maybe for some this could be a little confusing and therefore should be addressed with various companies offering this hotel for booking.
Like many hotels after Covid a lot of needed money spent and it has not been widely available. I do feel that although this hotel was pleasant it does need and requires some updating. I feel that although they tried to keep it clean and tidy carpet especially need to be replaced they are very worn in places. Our hotel room was a twin room. It was clean tidy in most places could also do with a little updating wardrobe. Door was broken. Bathroom was okay clean but also needs updating. We’ve paid £70 for the room so not the cheapest but also by far not the most expensive middle of the rangeI think one night in this hotel is sufficient

Staff was very attentive to our needs. We only ate breakfast there; it was very good.

Our room was clean. However, the room was terribly out of date. There were stains on our carpet (carpet needs removed completely). The room was musty. And being a bit warm, it was difficult to air out and cool the room at night as leaving the windows open let in bugs.

I would probably stay again given the location and price but I would look very hard elsewhere first.

Could do with some TLC

The staff were friendly and efficient but the overall impression is that the whole place could do with a major refurb, especially in the guest areas. Worn carpets on stairs, peeling paintwork, etc. Room overall comfortable but a socket close to the bed would have been appreciated. Appeared to have been recently, but badly, wallpapered and brand new curtains but overall shabby. Bathroom poorly planned, e.g. toilet lid could not be fully opened, shampoo/body wash attached to wall at a height that was ok for shower but impossible to reach if having a bath. Glad I took my own soap. As weather was warm some of the corridor windows were open and cigarette smoke was seeping inside from garden areas. Noticed a fire door wedged open which was a safety concern

Very, very tired room. Overall condition of the hotel decor becomes worse the further away you go from reception. And my room was as far away as you could get. I often think that when you book through Hotels.com you get punished by being allocated the least comfortable room. This room did nothing to dissuade me. The staff were fine, the breakfast was very good, but this place needs a serious makeover. Unlikely to stay again.

DON’T USE THE GREENE KING APP - rude bar staff

The lady on reception was extremely accommodating and friendly. The bar and restaurant is quaint. The only criticism we have is at the bar manager and the mixologist. We were told by reception on arrival that being a Greene King chain we could order our food and drink via app at our table when we went down to dinner which we did, however the mixologist came over to our table and criticised us using the app as he said he didn’t have all the ingredients for the cocktails we were ordering. So we stopped ordering cocktails and moved on to normal drinks. We ordered some snacks to take back to our room also. The bar manager came over with our order and almost chastised us for using the app altogether which we found highly unprofessional. She then went on to say that they have had huge issues with Greene King site as they did not have alot of the drinks and snacks on the website, we asked her why wasn’t it removed as we had seen she had removed one of the cocktails I had previously ordered surely if she can do this going through the whole menu to do this would save all this hassle no?! We were completely disappointed at the attitude of the 2 members of staff especially as the mixologist came back over to have another go, by this time the bar was full and people were staring at the confrontation. Totally disappointing as the young waiters and the food were amazing shame the 2 senior members weren’t so polite. Nice budget hotel other than this and bed is comfy

Arrived early and prepared to come back. Told room was ready however they normally charge for early check in. No need for these comments.
Hotel very tired. In need of paint and deep clean. Bathroom needs regrouting and upgrading the bath or somehow getting rid of marks on bath. Toilet system very loud and needs redoing. Curtains shredded and need replacing. Hairdryer broken however replaced quickly.
Noise from other guests with children running between rooms, slamming doors etc. Tv and talking loudly in rooms. So not a great night sleep.
However, good car park and staff good.
Only stayed for a couple of nights but would not return until upgraded.

The property is beautiful and the room is comfy.
Beautiful gardens and my window opened to a lovely lawn with a swing from a tree and great fresh air. Room was well decorated and seemed clean except there was a slight smell of mildew when I first came in. Allergies acted up a bit. The breakfast options were awesome - had traditional English breakfast one day and poached eggs with salmon another day. Great coffee and tea and biscuits in the room fresh daily.

Within walking distance is a wonderful garden center with gift shop and behind it is a jewel of a tea shop called Hybrid where they make amazing food and drinks, and there’s a balcony overlooking gorgeous green pastures and there are robin’s hopping around and cheerful staff.

Regarding the Roebuck hotel staff, most were very kind and helpful but there was one lady who was very difficult. I tried to make a call out of my room and couldn’t. Called front desk and was told the phone to my room is not working, and she asked me who I was trying to call. I said just a taxi because my cell is not working with the WiFi here. (That’s another thing the WiFi is spotty). Then the lady said that they’re going to charge me for an international call. She seemed to be very negative. I said I’m just trying to call a taxi. So I had to go to the front desk and got another nicer employee who kindly ordered me a cab.

But the rest of the staff were great.

Ate at the establishment one evening of our stay. Side salad was excellent. The main meal was satisfactory and reasonably priced.

We stayed one night as visiting attractions in the area and it’s the only reasonably priced option. As per other reviews the pub part is in need of updating, the accommodation extension is in dire need of renovation. Severe damp in the ladies toilet and dodgy electrics (very loud humming from lights over sink, scary).only ate breakfast which was very good for £12.50. Dined at The Cat Inn which I highly recommend.

Have passed this pub many times and thought how nice it was, so didn’t hesitate to book for a stay before going on to Gatwick airport. I have to say I should have gone to reception and asked to be moved to another room but didn’t so partly our fault. There was tiny moths in the room and wood lice. Not many but should not have been there. I understand that we only paid £54 for the room but if I was told at that price I’m sharing the room with bugs I wouldn’t have booked. Such a shame because the staff was great and couldn’t fault the service.

We only saw one member of staff despite it being a busy Friday evening, who was covering the bar, reception and serving - doing her best but we just felt sorry for her being overworked.

On arrival we were met by Valentine. who i later found out was a Team Leader
His customer service skills were 2nd to none
An absolute charming and professional staff member
The room was very clean and had all the amenities that guests would require at hand in the room
The following morning i spoke to Maba (hopefully ive spelt that right?) Who i belive was a manager
She was absolutely wonderful and was extremely courteous and professional in her manner and made me feel special and important
These two members of staff should be recognised for their loyalty and professionalism to the company
As these are the staff that make a guests stay as comfortable and enjoyable as possible
We will definitely stay here again when in the area

Unsafe ground , no lighting in overflow carpark.
The addition of seeds and pulses to my food, that varied hugely from accepted recipe. It should have been served seperately. It caused digestion problems . Yes I could have sent it back, buthe damage was done. Very poor lighting in the bar, therfore problem not obvious initially

Hotel is very clean and comfortable staff are brilliant the rooms are a little tired but its an old building.Decent food and drink prices considering the area a good base for a friends funeral would recommend

Just a one night stopover, so not much change to test the premises. Excellent value with a nice room and fresh breakfast.
