I often stay here when I'm working in the area. Rooms are always clean, staff are lovely, great location with lovely views over the church yard

Well located to shops, restaurants, bus, and walking distance to the train station, but room was pretty basic. Many eateries in the area which serve when the in house catering is closed (open 10:00-3:00). Building is old, so not surprised by some minor plumbing issues. Staff friendly and helpful.

The room is compact and basic. There is a door in the floor below that is constantly open and shut through the evening and started again at 5.30am this causes the building infrastructure and bed to vibrate and make a noise similar to weights being drops from a height! Very hard to sleep! Great location and ok for a 1 night. Goat kitchen adjacent for bar drinks and food in the town. Use church carpark for parking free 8pm to 8am so you need to buy a ticket AM if hanging around simple easy walk to get to and fro.

Okay but needs updating.
I only had a bed for the night, which was fine and comfortable. Room was a bit tatty and could do with a bit of loving care, but it was perfectly clean. Light wasn’t working in bathroom and ceiling was badly flaking. Light fixtures were broken in the bedroom and generally looked a bit dated and not well maintained. I did not have food, but the Goat is affiliated to it and the the breakfast looked to be good from reading the menu.

I truly enjoyed my three nights stay at The Gothic House. It is lovely and dainty, clean with comfortable bed/pillows. Unlike one review I read, I did not experience any in-shower hot water issues after I inquired about it.

Perfect location for E Grinstead - right in the centre of town but set back off the road so not at all noisy. Rooms are cosy, clean, comfortable and well fitted out. Vastly preferable to a chain hotel. Highly recommended.

The room was nice enough but it is just a room – this is not a B&B or guest house. There is no house keeping, restaurant or bar as described, no breakfast options and no reception. It is right in the town centre though.

Very nice room in the centre of east grinstead, with lots of climbing around and friendly hosts! didn't get a chance to use the cafe beneath but the reviews are very good.

Room is clean but small with very small en-suite. There is no option for breakfast on site, no milk was provided to make use of tea facilities in the room. Apart from check in at cafe on arrival there was no staff about at all.

Lovely rooms. A bit light for sleeping (when you come from the pitch-dark countryside :-)) but a lovely old building. Hotel ruined it by giving our room key to the next occupants, who came in at 8:45am - then proceeded to return and put all their stuff in in our absence while we stepped out for coffee pre-checking out! Then the hotel gave the next guest our email address because we complained about the intrusion - they then started to email us unhappy that we had complained!! Such a shame. Lovely place.

NO heat in December!
The entire floor had NO heat - thankfully, we were only booked for 1 night. The staff eventually (after 4 mentions from us that it STILL wasn't warm) brought us a space heater to get through the night.
The room is quite tiny, but acceptable for the price and location (in the heart of town), but the mattress - lumpy and not very comfortable at all.
We kept mentioning to the staff that the room was frigid (seemed like it was in the low 50s) and they kept replying \"we turned up the thermostat for your floor\". Ultimately, the owner appeared, though he didn't acknowledge our presence, and determined they actually did have a problem - the entire floor was not receiving any heat at all from their system.
The staff apologized, refunded half the room fee and we left the next morning.

Very welcoming staff for whom nothing was too much trouble. Family run business includes the cafe bar downstairs which serves good value evening meals. Quirky room with original features. Very comfortable with little extras such as fresh milk in fridge in hallway. Centrally located in centre of town but my room was still quiet and relaxing. Will definitely return - a little gem!

We booked this hotel as its only a 10 drive from Lingfield race track, however we didn't count on the lack of taxis in the area whom would not take a return booking so getting back after the races was very tricky.
Having said that this hotel is lovely, we loved the room very clean a great size, and perfect if you want a night away, the service of the guys in the bar was fab and they were both very helpful. We had lunch in the bar which was nice and hubby was pleased with the larger selection on draft! :-)
Unfortunately we were disappointed with the breakfast which was lukewarm and the fried eggs under cooked plus we waited 25 mins for it, this was a shame as the reviews previously for brekki had been good.
If there was a need to be in the area again yes we would book and return for another stay minus the breakfast.

If you like somewhere with a bit of character and history then this place is great. This was the best nights sleep I have had probably in 3 years. The temperature of the room was perfect. The location is great if you want to be close to the town and you get a free breakfast. I will be returning to 'East Grinstead' in the near future and I'm going to booking 'Gothic House' again.

This is not the place to stay if you want a quiet night in. I was hoping for a quiet night in but was confronted with very loud music which went on to about midnight and prevented me from having a decent night's sleep. It is ironic especially as a sign at exit says \"please leave quietly so as not to disturb the neighbours\"!!! As for the room the shower cubicle was ridiculously small, more fitting for a child than an adult. The table top in the room was not very secure in that a slight lean on it may have toppled it over. Although the checking in window was quite narrow, there was no dedicated staff available for this. Considering they knew when I was coming, having rung up the day before, I found this very unprofessional.

I had the room over rhe street, nice but an orange streetlight comes in over the curtain rail making the room very light at night. When we arrived we found there isnt any parking on site, but across the road for which you need lots of coins. I think for me the biggest thing misding was attention to detail, the cups in my room were dirty so had to wash them and although we had been told there was milk in the fridge there wasn't any. I think for £120 I expected more.
