An absolute gem of a hotel right in the heart of the \"old town\" area near Kloof Street. Beautiful colonial style design with fantastic local artwork throughout, amazing (cool) pool, honesty bar, secure on street parking (security watchmen at all times) and the most amazing helpful staff I've ever had at a hotel - emails and information on things to do, restaurants etc was outstanding. A really brilliant hotel in every way!

If you are looking for a small hotel slightly away from the tourist track, this is the hotel. We fell off the plane into the hotel jet lagged but the welcome and care and unexpected breakfast was like nothing I have ever experienced in a hotel. Thanks Luca, Buhle and Kash. This is such a relaxing beautifully colourfully decorated hotel, with extremely friendly staff and magic breakfasts! I would highly recommend.

From the moment you enter the beautifully decorated lounge area, you know this is your home away from home. The room isnt large, but well appointed. Staff is superb. Great restaurants nearby and we also we walked the 30 min. downtown( we are 72) took Uber everywhere else.
Breakfast is fabulous and the little touches of having cake or cookies around in the afternoon was an added bonus. There are steps to all the rooms that I could see so if this is a problem, check. Otherwise, this is the place to stay.

I really enjoyed my stay. The staff were phenomenal! I did not feel safe walking around the area, but we used UBER and had no issues. I would stay again. They allowed us to stay in our room until we left for the airport in the late afternoon. That was a real perk!

Extremely nice staff that went way above and beyond. Included breakfast was excellent and better than what you could find in any restaurant if you went and sat down and ordered avocado toast in my case with salmon. They have lots of staff to make sure the place is secure and everything is taken care of in a timely manner. As for the frequent power outages there were no inconveniences since they have batteries that filled in the outages like they didn’t happen. Very good stay, would choose over a chain since it’s much more personalized and friendly.

Good guesthouse and value for money, but a few things that could easily be improved. Locks to rooms didn’t work properly, service was sweet but a bit overwhelming and breakfast was a little average. Luca the manager however was absolutely fantastic and super helpful, would recommend.

This is a beautiful boutique hotel, in a neighborhood full of restaurants, nightlife and shopping. Most outstanding was the friendly and helpful service, which competes with concierges in the larger hotels, from restaurant recommendations and reservations, to car-hires and other basics. The only minor downside was the lack of a generator to compensate for South Africa's rolling power blackouts, so the air conditioning goes out for a couple hours each night, but it was a minor inconvenience. I would highly recommend this hotel.

Perfect Oassis in Cape Town
The Derwent House was excellent on all accounts with the exception it is on a hill and my husband isn't the best at parking however the manager came and parked the car for us and we didn't need to use it again until we left. The guest house is convenient for Table Mountain and walking Lions Head it is a small oassis to come back to at the end of the day. Delicious afternoon teas and quiet at night. Easy access to the Waterfront and good restaurants within walking distance

Great place, especially for the price. Walking distance to all downtown restaurants and activities and only a short drive to the Hotel Zone and beach. Great service and very secure locked free parking with a 24-hour attendant. Good to have a car when staying in Cancun to see everything, no matter where you stay. Beautiful pool. Rooms could use a bit of updating but they are large with very comfortable beds and great amenities like large showers, with the best water pressure ever.

This is a small, charming place to stay. The staff does everything they can to make your visit and your outings as good as possible. Breakfast was a treat, and their recommended driver was very good. Even though it was active with comings and goings, I never felt overlooked. The local restaurant recommendations were also excellent, and the neighborhood was walkable. A good value.

After huge amount of research and comparison we decided to book Derwent House for majority of our stay in Cape Town. As the hotel was full we booked hotel’s self-catering apartment. Luca greeted us on the arrival and showed us around. First impression – lovely place… extremely welcoming… clean and relaxing… lovely decorated too… Self-catering studio was spacious with the large and very functional bathroom (with walk in shower and a separate bath with the shower), bed comfy and kitchen equipped with everything one might need. During our stay in the hotel we met most of the reception staff and we were impressed by all of them. As we were celebrating my hubbies b’day while we were there, the staff made a dinner reservation for us and when we came back to the room, the room was decorated with happy birthday glitter and signs, balloons and bottle of bubbly was waiting for us. The staff went beyond their duty to make the evening memorable for us. I need to mention that the hotel is in the hilly area with lots of restaurants close by and just a short uber drive to the waterfront (we found that uber was the best way to go around town as it is really cheap and easily accessible). So… question on everyone’s mind is – Would I recommend this hotel – ABSOLUTELY! Would I come back again – YES! (as we fell in love with the city, it is highly likely that we will visit again 😊 )

Derwent House has excellent staff and service. It is a beautiful house that is very tastefully decorated. It is in an outstanding location. Restaurants and cafes are nearby, it is a safe and secure neighbourhood, and it is quiet qnd relaxing at night. All the staff are wonderful and helped us with all our needs. Everyone is very attentive and makes you feel at home. Although there is no gym at the hotel, they do have an arrangement for free access to the Zone Fitness gym on Kloof Str.

I had a lovely weekend stay at Derwent House and would highly recommend it. The experience was an ideal combination of the luxury of a hotel and the comforts of home. The staff are delightful and truly helpful. The location is quite central and there are good restaurants a short walk away. During my stay the manager arranged a driver & customized sight-seeing tour for me and another guest which was fantastic and provided several experiences that would have been impossible to arrange otherwise. If I visit Cape Town again I hope to stay at Derwent House.

The staff are very nice and accommodating. Parking is limited, so you will end up parking on the street, which was unexpected. Also, try to get an upstairs room as you will hear people above you stomping through the night. Good location though, if you don't mind being near the top of a hill. The staff could not have been more helpful and the facilities are excellent including a phone which you can use to call Uber. It is probably more suitable for younger people as this area of Cape Town is very hilly so although there are many eating places and shops nearby you have to factor in returning up a steep hill. They offer soup and delicious cake every afternoon so that you can mix with the other guests and share experiences. A lovely touch.

Quite simply the best hotel I’ve ever stayed in. I cannot emphasise enough how amazing the experience at Derwent house is. The location is really convenient, in a really cool area of Cape Town and about 25 mins walk to the waterfront. Rooms are decorated funky and comfortable, the breakfast is fantastic and the little touches like cake in the evening and hot water bottles left in your bed make you feel so welcome and special. But the real difference is the level of service that Derwent House provides. The staff are just amazingly friendly and do everything that they can to make your stay so pleasurable. Honestly, do not stay anywhere else in Cape Town as you will not find a better place to stay than Derwent House

There is an honesty bar meaning the fridge was stocked. In addition you could have afternoon cake or if the weather was cool & damp, there was soup! Choice of breakfast was very good, and we were able to sit al fresco on our last day
The rooms were clean and tidy, there was a TV but the hotel likes to encourage people not to fester in their rooms and come out to meet and greet so there is no fridge. They also provide a phone for you to use in Cape Town, this was really appreciated given the potential call charges we would incur. We only used it to book a taxi home but having the option certainly made us feel relaxed
This hotel is not in the centre of Cape Town which we really liked. It is located in a quiet residential area, meaning there was plenty of space to park the car. It is only a 7/8 minute drive to the Table Mountain car parks, but the views beside the pool of Table Mountain on sunny morning are fabulous.
If you drive past Table Mountain car park, you can drive onto Camp Bay which has lots of bars and restaurants and a stunning beach

This hotel is quite the little gem with big service. It is located in an excellent area, easy to get to Table Mountain, Camps Bay, Downtown etc. The service is outstanding and the decor is lovely. The breakfasts are so delicious as well as the afternoon treats with the honor system wine bar.

Anahid and her charming team welcome guests warmly and then make sure they’re looked after in every way. Nothing seems too much trouble - from recommending and booking restaurants to advising on how to make the best of your time in Cape Town. Derwent House is stylish but cosy, rooms have super comfy beds and the breakfasts are delicious. There’s a lovely courtyard/pool area to relax in after a day’s sightseeing. A gem - we hope to return.....

Amazing!!! Everything about Derwent Houes was spectacular even before we arrived. A few days prior to my arrival, I received a personal email from the owner asking if I needed assistance with transport, or food reservations. When we arrived, we were greeted by friendly staff and were offered a drink in the sitting room. The decor is lovely and the breakfast is fantastic. I told the manager it was my birthday and upon returning to my room in the afternoon, I discovered a bottle of champagne, flowers and confetti decorating the bed in my room. Two days later on Valentine's Day, the owner came around with champagne, chocolates and flowers during breakfast. When we told the hotel we wanted to head to the beach, they provided a beach bag with towels, a frisbee and sunscreen. Not detail was overlooked. I can't wait to return to Derwent House.

We had the most amazing 2 night stay at Derwent House. From the moment we arrived (tired from the long flight!), we felt totally welcomed, relaxed and at home. We could not fault the service and felt as though every little thing had been thought of.

From the first contact until we left to fly home, the owners and staff of this hotel are just amazing. We opted for the larger two room room in the attached building. I believe it is a self catering unit, but reminded me of the Dutch apartments I've stayed at in Amsterdam with some stairs leading up to the unit, and two \"wings\" at either end of the staircase landing. One bedroom and one sitting room with small stove, microwave,fridge and outside decki/sitting area.

Well located in the downtown area. The standard rooms are so tiny you can't fit a suitcase anywhere. Space is too limited for 2 people. It was a bit loud but it's downtown so it has to be expected.

The staff at Derwent make the hotel so warm and inviting! When we were unable to schedule trips on Expedia, the staff went over and beyond to find drivers for us so we could go on every trip we desired in Cape Town. Beautiful Boutique Hotel and Fantastic Service!
I am upset that we were not staying longer! We only stayed two nights at the Derwent House but I would love to come back and stay a longer period of time. The entire staff was so helpful and accommodating! Our suite had a bedroom with a queen bed, a living area with a bed that pulled out that slept two also. We also had a small kitchen area with a refrigerator, microwave, sink, coffee pot, toaster and two burners with all utensils and pots and pans if needed. However, we took advantage of their breakfast which was FANTASTIC! The living room has a balcony that was very nice also. In the evening you can sit in one of the two common areas which were beautifully decorated and both accessible to the fireplace. At night, there is turn down service with a warm bottle to heat your feet. There is also a common balcony area that overlooks the pool with a waterfall and a jacuzzi. This area and the common living areas were just so peaceful! I have traveled many places and this is one of my new ALL TIME favorites! The entire staff was wonderful! We will be back!

One of the best places I've stayed, and we stayed in some great spots just on this trip. The rooms and common rooms and pool area are all lovely but the people at the hotel really make this place. Super friendly and extremely helpful, these guys are awesome. An added bonus is that the area the hotel is in is very safe and has a lot of good restaurants very close by, can walk to dinner and back at night safely which isn't so common in other parts of South Africa!

The location was beautiful- overlooks Table Mountain and near Kloof Street with some great restaurants. It has a warm and inviting seating area in the living room where you can sip a complimentary sherry or cup of tea with dessert in the evening. They do offer other beverages (wines & sodas) for a small fee. The staff was very helpful ensuring your stay was entirely pleasant. The room sizes differ depending on the location within the property ( I recommend Room #1 with its terrace overlooking the majestic Table Mtn.) -sizes are smaller compared to other properties I've stayed in, however the rooms were impeccably clean and comfy. The property does offer a lovely cold & warm full breakfast. There is an pool in the rear of the property and outdoor seating for eating and sunbathing. It is a very homey feeling.

We stayed in the apartments which included a gated parking spot. Breakfasts were excellent with a choice of menu items as well as other items. Service was fantastic. We had two apartments for four grown adults - we might have been able to squeeze into one but the bedding was not set up for it really. Definitely would stay here again.

We stayed for four nights with our teen-age son in late July. As no triple available for the first two nights, the hotel had given us two rooms for the same price as the triple, arranged in advance. Then, on the third day the hotel manager offered the option of staying put or moving to the other space. We decided to remain where we were, which my son loved, since he had his own room. Filling, well-prepared breakfast each day and afternoon sherry or port with a snack. Gracious, helpful staff ready to make reservations for dinner, tours or call taxis. Very enjoyable, comfortable stay.
