Our Junior suite was a wonderful place to relax - so spacious, with views to 3 sides. The bathroom was very spacious. Room was always well serviced. There were generous supplies of tea and coffee.
It was always a pleasure to approach the hotel - the porters welcoming, friendly and efficient. We found the concierges extremely helpful.
The Guest Experience Team were proactive in ensuring we had everything and their kindness in making my wife's birthday special will long be remembered - thanks Sherman and Frances! Sherman appreciates that the Nellie is not just a 5* hotel - it is an iconic institution and he clearly intends to keep it as the premier destination in Cape Town

The Mount Nelson is truly a special hotel. It's physical location affords you an incredible view of Table Mountain. Rooms were spacious and luxuriously appointed with huge bathrooms. The service was outstanding, particularly rom Muchi the concierge who was very helpful in assisting us with planning excursions and hard-to-snag dinner reservations. High tea was a real treat and was even better thanthose I have had in London. We loved the Planet Bar and daily breakfasts, which were impressive and massive! I would highly recommend you stay at the \"pink lady.\"

Absolutely fantastic property and staff! It’s in a great location and the grounds are breathtaking. They have two heated pools and a great breakfast buffet that everyone rightfully raves about. The Mount Nelson did not disappoint

We loved staying at the Mount Nelson, we did not get in our car the whole time we stayed there. Loved the old grandeur of the hotel, the staff were very friendly and could not do enough for us. We loved the adult pool, which we mostly had all to ourselves. We loved walking in the gardens of the hotel as well as the surrounding neighbourhood.
Of Course we did afternoon tea at the Nellie, and it was everything I had always read about it.
We will definately be back visiting the pink lady

Brilliant setting in well manicured gardens with a choice of well serviced pool areas. Food and drink is superb although service was fairly hit and miss. Excellent at times and slow others although we did visit at the busiest time of year. Staff were very friendly and the rooms were spotless each day. Would definitely recommend and look forward to returning.

Comfortable middle-aged plushness

Rooms and buildings are old-school comfortable, with dozens of pillows and towels, and various doormen, concierges, drivers etc to attend to your every need. How long this model of excess will continue in the current environment of sustainability remains to be seen, but I guess there will always be a market.

Service was variable, tending to be mostly slack, indifferent and a little too familiar, with the odd exception. Breakfast was outstanding, lacking nothing. Overall, it was exceedingly comfortable and well located, but let down by the service and the feeling that it's all a bit much in today's world.

What a great experience at a special hotel! Excellent service starting at check in with kindness, efficiency and generosity, (we've been upgraded to a De Luxe room with a balcony). The High tea was delicious and beautifully presented, and the breakfast provided a wide choice. The hotel has a wonderful rich history, but never feels stuffy or outdated. Hotel was beautiful, as was food and room. I attended the spa and left my earphones in the locker - the staff clean out the locker and replace the dressing gowns etc between use, so would have had access before any new guests. I tracked the earphones through find my iphone to the spa facility and informed the staff. we were the last people in the spa and the spa closed just after i left - the staff tried to say the spa was extremely busy and that it was open late, both of which are incorrect and they back pedalled when i showed them the tracking to the facility. the earphones have been taken by the cleaner or spa staff and they have misinformed me to try and protect this. not what you expect from a hotel of this calibre!

A perfect relaxing stay

This hotel is a classic, charming hotel at the base of Table Mountain. Service was excellent - unobtrusive and pleasant. The gardens surrounding the hotel are beautiful and the resident Egyptian geese and their goslings were entertaining swimming with guests in the pool. We had a room with a greet view and enjoyed the superb High Tea and the Grand Buffet while staying there. The hotel is opposite the entrance to the Company Gardens and a stroll under the overhanging trees leads to several classical buildings including Parliament House.

Pretty grounds but for the price you pay the service was subpar. Air conditioning was not working, complained at reception with no follow up. Was given a bottle of used lotion at check in. Service staff unattentive and unfriendly. They never smile at you. Many details missed ( ie no proper steak knife, took breakfast orders wrong etc)

A very nice hotel with excellent service staff and very comfortable rooms. It did not get perfect marks only because of a few minor details: 1. The receptionist couldn’t cut a room key for me, and her master key, and the bell boy’s master key wouldn’t work either. A third person had to be be asked to try to open the door. 2. The elevator was not working. 3. I was told the wrong venue for breakfast by restaurant staff at dinner time. 4. Shuttle bus to and from V&A Waterfront ends at 6.30/7 pm respectively- too early.

We booked 2 nights here to end our 2 weeks touring South Africa. As you turn off to enter the hotel you just think wow! Absolutely stunning entrance and driveway. The hotel is original and stunning. We were given a free upgrade from a superior room to a suite. The suite was enormous, I know people with smaller houses! Fabulous building with lots of history in a great location at the foot of table mountain. Highly recommended

Stayed at the historic but still luxurious Belmond Mount Nelson Hotel with my wife. We spent my birthday weekend at this lovely and strategically located place. The hotel staff were aware of my birthday without me or my wife informing them and they left a lovely bottle of sparkling wine in my room. Other intangible touches include the warmth and hospitality of the staff and the accommodating concierge who gave us the best local dining advice. Guaranteed to come back to Belmond Mount Nelson next time I visit Cape Town.

It is beautiful but at least in the off season, cold. I have been cold in every room of this hotel. The staff and grounds are wonderful but I think I would come when it is warmer out. Then you could use the pool and not freeze.

In Cape Town to spend time with family & friends

The team and the service they deliver are by far the biggest asset of the Mount Nelson Hotel. This is closely followed by the attention to taste and presentation given with all food dishes.

A little more attention to detail when it comes to room maintenance would go a long way. Not because it ruined our stay in anyway, but simply because when you stay at the Mount Nelson, your expectations are that everything will be perfect.

The Mount Nelson Hotel is a charming, well kept hotel of yesteryear with beautiful outdoor spaces located 15 minutes by taxi from the hustle, bustle, and noise of the waterfront district. Our comfortable room with small balcony overlooked the pool and city beyond.The room and bath are very spacious with a sizable closet with more than enough room to store suitcases and hide them from our living space. The only downside to the room was the bath didn’t have an outlet for the hairdryer so I had to use an outlet in the room...a minor inconvenience. Breakfast in the poolside restaurant is amazing offering just about anything you can imagine. We also had three very good dinners in the other 2 hotel restaurants. Best of all, though, are the hotel staff. They made us feel so welcomed and appreciated and took care of our every need with a warm, genuine smile. All the staff made our stay in the Mount Nelson Hotel most special and memorable. For us, it turned out to be the perfect pre and post safari destination for us to relax from a long flight as well as for exploring the amazing city and regions of Cape Town.

The hotel takes you back in time and transcends to the grand hotel days. You can imagine the diplomats moving in and out. The staff is wonderful, helpful and makes the stay even more special. The grounds really put the finishing touch on the charm of the hotel. Definitely worth staying here and the breakfast options are good as well.

We stayed forc 8 nights we had a beautiful room with a balcony overlooking the pool and beautiful gardens
We did have a problem because the air conditioning broke down and we moved room a coupe of times to get a suitable room
The manager was very helpful and did his best and gave us discount for this problem
The food and restaurant is great
You do need patience when ordering a fried egg or omelette everything Moves at a slow pace but you just have to accept this
I did have some Money 200 rand taken out of my bag which was my fault leaving it in the room and not the safe.
I didn’t tell the hotel because I didn’t want anyone to get sacked
We overall had a wonderful stay and would go back in a heartbeat

Worth the extra spend

We wanted to finish our trip to SA on a high and it was a rather stunning, epic high. This hotel has all that you can expect from a 5 star estate. The room was large and super comfy and the bathroom so large like you were in a ballroom. For a quiet day by the pool if you want to be away from kids use the upper pool. Dinner and drinks in the hotel were also fantastic and not that expensive. The scones are the best I have ever had and a must during your stay. Worth every cent, you'll love it.

Hotel is full of history, elegant in its own way, but key concern is that its location is not nearly as convenient as the new five start hotels that have been built in the last 10+ years closer to the waterfront. You will need transportation. Very expensive for what is offered compared to the other deluxe hotels in the city. Do recommend the elegant Afternoon Tea...that's worth a visit to the hotel, but would not recommend for overnight stay. Rooms have been refurbished but do not match the efficient design and comfort of the newer first class hotels in the city that charge a similar amount or even considerably less.
