Lovely rural location within walking distance of the beach and perfect for picking up the coast path. Interesting old building with the old water wheel just visible from our bedroom window. Our double room was a good size but, accessed by a bit of a maze of passageway, it did smell a bit of damp (or dog) though, maybe the same room I saw mentioned in someone else’s review… and the mattress wasn’t particularly comfortable (could feel the springs). These were the only negatives though, the reception rooms / bar were cosy and welcoming, the large dining room was open with lots of natural light, and the food was delicious.

It was a quaint inn with an attached pub and restaurant which was very convenient. It has lots of parking and is located in a spot that make it easy to explore in different directions. We went to Port Isaac, Port William, and Tinagle while we were there. The staff was all great!

However, the bed was so bad that I contemplated sleeping on the ground or in my car — I literally slept better on a knackered Soviet cot. Curiously, upon investigation into why the inner springs could be seen beneath the sheets, we discovered that the mattress was actually upside down, with the pillow top facing the floor. We flipped the mattress and re-made the bed, but even then, the springs were still evident and we tossed and turned all night.
Somehow, pillows were even worse; they felt like pulverised t-shirts that had been compressed into a pillow-shape. Perhaps unavoidably, thanks to the building’s age, there is no noise insulation; we heard muffled voices emanating from adjacent rooms until about midnight.
However, the bed was so bad that I contemplated sleeping on the ground or in my car — I literally slept better on a knackered Soviet cot. The hotel is very charming and quaint and the staff are very friendly. The hotel grounds are lovely and peaceful and very private. The breakfast was included and you complete your meal request on a form, to be left at reception before retiring for the evening. In the morning, the staff have your table already prepared and everything you ordered is served. I had a vegan breakfast, which was good and they even had vegan yoghurt, which many places don’t have. I did have a nice vegan dinner at the hotel, which was fairly reasonably priced.

Very comfortable room with a lovely enamel bath. Staff all very friendly and helpful and breakfast was delicious. Our only problem was lack of WiFi in room one. Also being the room that everybody stops outside to open the next door it is a bit noisy which set our dog off barking in the late evening.

Also, if the area outside the bedroom windows could be cleaned up e.g remove dead leaves and do some weed eating if able, it would add to the cottage ambiance and outlook. Loved find! We stayed one night in the cottage, which has a great living/dining area with double bedroom and bathroom downstairs. The pub is characterful, contrasted by the dining area which is quite a large, open modern addition. The breakfast was very good. We arrived at 4 o'clock on a Sunday afternoon, very hungry and I was a little disappointed to find that the only food left available for us would be fish and chips, as everything else had run out (restaurant closes at 5 on Sunday), but the fish was fantastic. Nice and quiet. The bedroom did have quite damp smell, but was quiet and comfortable. Would stay again.

A nice old inn in a good location. The manager was very welcoming and we got a nice big room and bathroom. Breakfast was excellent and service was very good. They do not serve evening meals on a Monday night; however, the manager pointed us to a lovely pub overlooking the beach.

Our room(s) at The Mill House Inn were both very spacious, especially the bathroom, and kept the character of the old mill with big roof beams (if you're a tall person, you'll need to duck). It's located about 1/2 mile from stunning Trebarwith Strand that is great for swimming and surfing at low tide but disappears completely at high tide. Also 1/2 mile from the South West Coastal Path and fabulous hikes in either direction. Our first room was above the bar and was a bit loud (closes at 11pm which is not bad) so staff were very kind in moving us to another quieter room our second night. Breakfast was fresh, hearty and delicious. Highly recommended

The Mill House is a lovely and quaint hotel in the most beautiful surroundings. The staff were amazing and so welcoming. Getting to the rooms upstairs can be challenging with cases but the rooms were clean with updated modern bathrooms. The inn is hundreds of years old so some quirks are expected. It’s just up the road from the stunning beach of Port William. Don’t miss it!

My fish was cold and watery. Pool table in middle of restaurant with the tables around it 2 lads playing. Wasn’t what you want while eating dinner. Breakfast was nice no complaints there. My room was above the bar. At 10pm they started karaoke the next night a quiz night that was very loud also for someone getting up at 4am the next day. My work mate was in another room and couldn’t hear anything but was on the floor above me. So if you want peaceful night don’t get the room above the bar or on the floor.

FULL REVIEW ON YELP & GOOGLE. Do not stay here . This “inn” is dirty ,
small rooms , uncomfortable beds , lots of stairs (definitely not a place for anyone that is mobility challenged ) minimal amenities with broken furnishings and at least one condescending employee.
Here’s some of the issues we encountered .
The WiFi ONLY works in the breakfast area . The WiFi DOES NOT WORK in your actual room . You will NOT have cell service at the Mill House therefore having WiFi to power your cellular data is important - you won’t have WiFi here unless you stay in the breakfast area which is not close to where your room will be. The employee on duty insisted if you connect to their WiFi in the breakfast area it will work in your room - IT WILL NOT WORK in your room. I observed other guests also complain about the lack of advertised WiFi.
Let’s talk about the room. Our room was tiny , barely enough space to turn around in . The mattress and pillows were uncomfortable . There was a layer of dust on the dresser . There were spiders webs . There was an actual spider in the room - granddaddy long legs . There was an exposed screw that I scratched my leg on where a drawer knob was broken off . Inside the bathroom , the toothbrush holder was broken and caused a mess with the faucet at one point . Also , there is NO AIR CONDITIONING in the rooms . On the day we stayed , it was very hot . The room we were assigned was facing the sun so it caused (FULL REVIEW ON YELP & GOOGLE)

This is a quirky, out of the way guest house. I imagine it as an old traveler's tavern. The rooms are over the bar. Not a problem, except it was world cup soccer, and England was playing Spain. It was a bit loud, but understandably so. And it quieted right down by midnight. People were super friendly and helpful.

Biggest mistake not reading the bad reviews properly, everything is spot on. We did not expect much as we knew we are in the country side and is an Inn place, but God I have never seen a property so dirty such as this place and I do not understand how is advertised and sold online. This place it is tidy but very dirty. First of all the smell that hits you, and then the filthy carpets/floors and doors at all the entrances, such a dirty kettle with water left from a previous use. It is so much to say about this place but not enough characters to write more.
The only good thing about this place are the two members of staff really polite, and another thing is the clean sheets, they are probably delivered from a laundrette as they were delivery bags on the coridors, but thats it. The rest is a shock.

Loved our short stay at this hotel, my type of place, a bit quirky and out of the way, but not far from where you want to visit. Steepish uneven staircases won't suit everyone, but room was clean and comfortable, food was excellent and service great. No, there aren't table cloths or candles on the tables in the restaurant, it's not 'chic' like that, but it's full of character and homely, and as mentioned the food was exceptional.

Our room was so dirty. There were multiple cobwebs and spiders. A layer of dust was on the lamps, side tables, doors, trim work, around the shower inside and out and the carpet was old and dirty. I like old and even quirky with different levels of an old building. But to have it be dirty is disgusting. The old mattress did not have anything other than a sheet over it. When I shut the curtains, there was an insect in the folds.
I was hesitant to eat breakfast after seeing the state of the room, but we tried it and there was a great selection. But again, dirty walls, cobwebs behind the log burner, dirty tea pot spout.

Our stay was amazing, the room was comfortable and the shower was large. The room was full of character. Drinks in the bar was great, entertaining and super friendly, we really felt welcomed. We ate at the restaurant and the food was incredible, breakfast was the best breakfast we’ve ever had. The price is fantastic, I am so glad we’ve found this gem of a place because we sure will be back!
