Very comfortable ample sized room. The staff were amazing without exception. Great Onsen. Had read comments that it could be noisy because of the wooden construction but this was not the case for us. I also liked being able to open the window in our room because of Japanese accommodation tendency for super heating during winter. I loved Kusatsu, and would definitely stay at Kusatsu Onsen Gensen Ichinoyu again.

Very closed to the bus station, which was about 5 mins walk. The hotel is building with old architecture, but with modern updates. It was an easy check-in process. Our room was really nice and spacious. The room was clean, but my blank had a small stain on the blanket. The wifi is really good. There is a public onsen on the lower floor for guests to enjoy. We reserved a 45 mins private onsen for 3200 yen. It was well worth it! The room was roomy and clean. It has a private shower and bathroom. The we enjoyed our private onsen. Very relaxing. Highly recommend. Some tips. Don't walk in the hotel with your shoes or sneakers. There are sandals that you can walk outside the streets with. It's located in the lockers with the keys when you entered the hotel. If you want to walk around the hotel you can walk with your socks or the staff can you give a sandals. Breakfast is a buffet. Limited selections, and you have to make a time slot rsvp. They bar closed around 10pm. We loved our one night stayed. We would come back again!

The location is good, within walking distance to city center
Staff is very polite. The room is spacious. Breakfast is simple. The onsen does not have an elevator, so it's a bit difficult to carry the luggage up the stairs. Overall, it was a good stay.

The property’s website did not have exact map to get there. I asked at the info center for direction but a couple from Hong Kong took 1 hour to locate the property. It was not mentioned there are long stairs to get there from “yubatake” tour spot. No elevators at the property you have to lug your suitcases up to your room.

The hotel was amazing.
Loved having an Onsen in the hotel and a Footbath outside the lounge area.

A couple of minutes walk to the Yubatake, restaurants and 711.
I would recommend going to the supermarket or Lawsons near the bus station. Much quieter and more stock than the 711.

There are no cooking utensils or plates and cutlery in the room but see the reception staff and they will give them to you.

The Yubatake and surrounding area look amazing lit up at night.

Amazing Experience

The place is close to the bus station and merely a block away from Yubatake. It's really clean and modern yet still have old school ryokan vibe. Free foot bath right at the lobby. Staff is polite and professional, speaks passable English which is better than my broken Japanese. We had a private onsen tub in the room and it's absolutely amazing. We could go soak in the tub whenever we like for however long time. Free breakfast were simple western bites but we ain't there for that. Highly recommended for solo, couple or family trip.

The room is very big and comfortable.
There are 2 layers of windows, the external layer is unable to close properly and sometimes the cold air keeps coming in.
The heater in the room is not very useful in keeping the room warm as it is not strong enough.

It is very convenient and only one street behind the yubatake , all the facilities of the hotel are new, the staffs are professional and the attitude are excellent. A small episode happened, saying that before the check-in time, our child's Scooter's wheel fell off on the way, so we took it to the hotel and ask the hotel staff to borrow some tools to repair it when we came back to check-in later. When we returned to hotel, the staff stated that they had repaired the scooter and put in our room. Otherwises, we had booked the Deluxe Twin Room with Mini Kitchen and Private Hot Spring but they upgraded our room to the largest room for us, the room surprised us a lot.

We have fantastic time at Kusatsu Onsen Gensen Ichinoyu. We’re in love with this place! The service is fantastic, everything will kindly be arranged for you. The room was really comfortable, with an amazing bed. The Onsen was clean and the water was hot and healing.
We would definitely recommend Gensen Ichinoyu to everyone. We loved our stay and we miss the place!

Service was superb, facilities was great.
Location was horrible, we couldn’t find the place at all for the fact that we are driving n we hv to go 5 times round n round the Kusatsu town n yet couldn’t find the place. There was no place to park n finally we park our car at the sister hotel... n took their shuttle bus to the hotel. When we finally found the exact location of the hotel, we hv to carry 2 heavy luggage’s through 20 stairs of staircase... oh gosh.. can’t believe it was so inconvenient.. we will not recommend this hotel to any1. Thank you

The manager and his staff are excellent. They went out of their way to take care of us. This hotel has been recently updated and is gorgeous. Two simple warnings, there is no air conditioner, but the evenings are very cool in fall. There is no elevator for the four story hotel. Staff will assist you, though.

湯畑から近いので、道は分かりやすいです。朝食はパンで軽食が食べれました。
部屋にはお風呂はないですが、大浴場がちょうどよい大きさです。ドリンクバーがあって助かりました。
木造建物なので、廊下が誰か通ると部屋まで聞こえるのが気になったので、星1つ減です。

綺麗。草津は古い旅館やホテルが多いが、近代的。場所は裏草津だが、そちらは今どんどん開発され、同じく今風の和モダンなホテルも多い。立地が特に良い。
露天風呂客室は憧れるが、周辺に風呂はどれだけでもある。考えどころである。

夫婦＋中学生2人で利用

家族で4人部屋の内風呂の無い部屋に泊まりましたが、とても広く、お洒落な部屋で子供達も喜んでいました。他のお客さんはほぼカップルで、雰囲気はおちついています。うちは子供達は中学生なので問題なかったですが、小さな子連れだと落ち着いた感じなので、少し気を使う気がします。
宿の共同のお風呂は良かったですが、コロナが明けて、周辺に点在するお風呂に入れるようになってくれると良いなと思いました。
雪が降った中の湯畑はとてもきれいでした。

観光スポットにも近く、新しい設備が整っていましたが、初日に髪の毛などが室内に落ちていた事など、清掃が気になりました。
室内は広く、静かな環境でゆっくりできます。タンスがあれば更にありがたいです。

露天風呂付きの部屋がおすすめです。

施設自体はこじんまりとした印象でしたが、お部屋に露天風呂がついており、フェイク暖炉のあるロビー含めゆっくりくつろげる空間となっていました。高級感があるわけではありませんが、自由に飲める飲み物(珈琲、カフェラテまで！)やアメニティのグレードも個人的には満足です。素敵な旅の思い出をありがとうございました。また利用させていただきたいです。

リノベーションされたばかりの清潔な宿。若者向けのコンセプトなんでしょう、接客も意図的に距離を置いたクールアンドドライな感じ。

お風呂、決して広くはないけど十分なサイズかな、露天風呂があればもっと良いけど。でも草津のお湯は完璧、何度でも入りたい。

朝食も期待してなかったけど、パンとウィンナをトースターで温めたら十分美味しい頂けました。夕食はなかったけど湯畑に近いので不自由せず。

草津でリーズナブルに泊まる宿としては総じて高評価です。

音が響く

部屋は広く綺麗でしたが、廊下を歩く音や天井の歩く音が、かなり響き不快でした。
トイレのライトも部屋の電気を消すとつかず不便でした。
風呂は浴場が寒く、鏡が備え付けではなく、置き鏡なのが違和感がありました。

期待以上の素敵なお宿でした！

湯畑からほど近い場所にあり、観光にはとても便利でした。
写真で見ていた以上にお部屋も館内も綺麗で、充分満足できました。
大浴場と貸切露天風呂を利用したのですが、どちらも少し熱めで私には心地よい湯温でした。また、館内にある足湯のそばにはタオルを置いてくれていたりと、ちょっとしたことですが随所に心配りのある宿だと感じました。機会があればまた行きたいと思います。

外観やフロントや部屋がとても清潔感あって良かったです！朝食も無料頂けたので良かったです。温泉が思ったよりシンプルで、温泉も楽しみにしてたので、もう少し、露天風呂やサウナなどあってもいいかなと思いました！でも全体的にはすごく良い旅館でした！また来たいです！
