My husband and I spent one amazing night here after hiking Mt Fuji the day before. We didn't know what to expect at our first Onsen but Kusatsu Onsen Buon exceeded our expectations. It is conveniently located by Yubatake Hot Springs and Sainokawara Park. It has a very zen and peaceful atmosphere. We booked a 90 min full body massage at the hotel and the masseuses were spectacular. They addressed every aching body concern after our hike! The breakfast was also plus. I would highly recommend them to my friends and book a stay with them again!

Had a great stay at the Kusatsu Buon. The kaiseki dinners were some of the best I have tried and the breakfasts were pretty good as well. The hotel onsen were spacious and relaxing and I also tried the onsens around Kusatsu during my stay as well and I would say that the ones in the hotel are on par with the main onsens in town. The rooms are standard Japanese style, nothing remarkably different, but still quite comfortable. Overall, highly recommended and well worth spending a weekend or even longer there.

Bath had 3 indoor and one outdoor... very nice!

Our stay was amazing!!!

Only one thing I would like to give them a feedback. On the check out date, I got my car key back from one of their staff (they asked to keep it at the front). But we need to go out and buy something before leaving.

When we got back, my car was parked in front of the hotel entrance and one of their staff (not the one who gave me back my car key) told me that I shouldn't park my car there. (I didn't notice when we went out because it's a rent car and I couldn't recognize it at a glance)

I tried to explain that I wasn't the one who parked the car there but he didn't seem like who want to listen to my reason. And somehow I felt that he acted rudely to me.

Anyway, all of their staffs beside him are great and I still enjoy my time their.

Treated like royalty!

From the moment we were picked up at the bus station we were treated like royalty. We were treated to tea service in our room on arrival. The room was large and comfortable with a beautiful private traditional garden. We were given traditional clothing and sandals to wear to the bath. The bath was clean and well appointed with high end products to use afterwards. While at dinner in the old traditional part of town (a short, pleasant walk away), our room was transformed for sleeping. The traditional breakfast, served elegantly in our own private room, was icing on the cake. This was a not to be missed experience!

This hotel makes me feel likeI want to stay forever. The flower displays are amazing, quality of the spa water, the food at dinner and breakfast - all perfection (and I don't drop that word easily). The owner takes every detail to heart. I love the range of products in the spa. My stay was made extra special by my \"valet\", Eppei, who cared for me with joy and laughter. Also very good wifi, unusual in Japanese hotels

A great traditional style Japanese hot spring inn

Great place to stay if you want to experience a traditional but updated Japanese style hot spring inn. You can even book a room with your own personal hot spring if you like but the larger communal hot springs are great, and change each day so you can try them all during a one night stay. The staff were mostly very very efficient except for the meal scheduling where there was repeated confusion but everyone was quite friendly and eager to help. The food was not as good as I had expected at the price point unfortunately but the cleanliness, style and spaciousness of rooms and facilities are excellent and well worth the visit. We spoke Japanese so I don't know about English capabilities. Yukata/overcoat had size options and were nice and warm and tied easily and well.

The first room they provide is small and no view, also close to the kitchen. It is too poor. After complaint to the person in charge, they change a bigger and good view room to us. The room is good. Overall the service is good, nice hotel. The dinner is not bad, a lot of different dishes, nice in presentation, but honest said that the food is too traditional Japanese type, and not very good taste. My own comment, no choice on the food, you have to eat what they provided, good or bad.

Had an excellent 2 nights stay at boun. We arrived late at around 6:30pm from shinjuku ( almost 5 hours by bus from bus terminal). We emailed the hotel to come pick us up and it was done, luckily we did so because it was quite dark and cold.

Arrival:
We arrived and was greeted warmly by hotel staff and promptly following they served dinner in our room. The hotel is very well kept and looked very new.

Meals:
The meals were excellent with a great variety in food served. We’ve stayed at many onsen ryokan within Japan and this is one of the good ones. 2 night stay with totally different themed dinner menu.

Onsens:
There are 3 onsens and they alternate between male and female according to the time frame. All 3 of the onsens have a small outdoor onsen that is accessed from indoor onsen. The onsens are clean and pretty spacious and not overcrowded as the hotel is relatively small and cozy. The source of the hot spring is very good for relieving muscle tension and has very little smell.

Surrounding:
Very close to the centre of the town but not over touristy as noun is located a little higher with a small walk upwards to get to hotel.

Overall:
We were very happy to have stayed at boun with their great staff and the high level of cleanliness. We truly had a relaxing and comforting stay and were fed stuffed full. We appreciate the size of this ryokan as the noise levels are low and the onsens are rarely crowded

Quaint and Relaxing

We LOVED our stay at Kusatsu Onsen Boun. We spent 10 days in Japan (primarily in Tokyo)- and this was a perfect respite away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Everyone was extremely friendly and we loved the traditional Japanese room and beds. Our room had a lovely view of a pond.

The hot springs were extremely hot so I could stay in for about 15 mins. Also I wished there were some private onsens because I'm not the most comfortable baring all to strangers. However when I went around 8:30pm there were just a few people in the outside bath and none in the inside bath which made me feel a bit more at ease.

We chose the package with traditional breakfast and it was really great. So many little bites to sample- it was quite a lot of food and we were stuffed. Other than yogurt, most of the items were savory: rice, fish, salad, steamed egg, pickled vegetables, and miso soup.

Two tips:
Outside shoes are not able to be worn around the inn. When you come in you will need to take your shoes off and wear one of the sandals they provide you. Don't do like I did and place the sandals on the ground with the shoes to put on -.- You'll want to step up onto the wooden floor to put them on.

Wear your yukata (robe provided in closet) to the onsen. Leave your room towel inside your room. I brought this into the onsen with me thinking I could cover myself for modesty but staff member told me that only the tiny towels located in the changing area should be brought in.

Great stay, but some rooms smell like smoke. Ask for rooms where prior traveler was not a smoker. Japanese ryokan may not have exclusive non smoking room - this is common. They usually put an air filter in the room to clean out the smoke smell.

A five star Japanese hot spring experience

The hotel is located in the beautiful resort Ku Sa Tsu. A ski resort and Japan top hot spring spot with a history from the 16th century. The beautiful hotel is designed as per the highest standards of the traditional Japanese architecture. Room and facilities are the best. Food is exquisite. Hot spring spa is outstanding. Arriving here after the capsule was amazing. It's a four hour bus ride fro Shinjuku station but a great ride toward snow-capped mountains and cherry blossom. From the moment they pick you up at the bus station, you're treated like a royal guest. This ryokan is popular with Japanese guests which is a very good sign for me and although it's large, it never feels crowded.There are three large baths with two different types of water, open through the night so great for jetlag. The lady owner speaks very good English and is lovely. The food is very very good, I ate for such a long time, I missed heading out to the evening bath. My tatami room was large with everything I could want plus a little zen garden - I was very sad to leave. One night isnt enough. I'll be back for two next time.

Amazing experience with the onsen but I am not used to traditional sleeping arrangements (on a mat on the floor) and some traditional foods so I didn't have the most comfortable sleep or appetizing meal. However everyone is different so others may have a splendid meal.

Would love to be here again

The room was well prepared when we checked-in, expects no less from the Japanese quality of services! The location was great, but google map was pinned at the wrong location (suggested a location change on google map thought), the authentic meals (breakfast, and dinner) were beyond my expectation, and the hot spring facilities were not crowded at all. Really an absolutely fantastic experience at Kusatsu Onsen Boun.

this hotel is primarily for ONSEN. if you aren't going to spend 3 to 5 times a day at their onsen, you ought to find some place else to rest at. my girlfriend and i stayed in the japanese deluxe suite on the 4th floor, so they weren't standard beds but still comfy.

as for the onsen, they are separated by gender and are full nude onsen baths. do not drink unresponsibly and use the onsen as you might pass out.

our room had a mini fridge with many drinks. the menu clearly states that all drinks that are taken on the last staying day are complimentary...this curiousity made me go down to ask front desk if such a thing was true. found out it wasn't. like they say, “no free lunch”

to get to kusatsu onsen from tokyo is a trainride and bus ride to the town station, but when u call the hotel they will scoop you and send you to the hotel. beware, this is not tokyo and their english is poor. your best bet is to ask the bus driver who sent you to kusatsu onsen station to call the hotel and tell them you are waiting to be scooped.

i really enjoyed our two night stay. kusatsu onsen is a hidden gem itself in japan. the center attraction in kusatsu onsen is wonderful and this hotel offers you legit yutaka robes for your stay.i myself happened to walk the streets in the yutaka even though most locals were looking at me like i was crazy but hey, it surely makes you submerged in some sort of premodern japan experience !

It was truly an enjoyable and amazing experience

It was an amazing experience from the moment we set foot into this Ryokan until we leave. Every employee is there to help you and offers great customer service. The dinner and breakfast were incredibly fresh and delicious. The Onsen was clean and offers everything you need to truly enjoy the hot spring. The town is surrounded by mountains so the temperature is cooler than in Tokyo and less humid. Unlike Hakone, this area is not nearly as commercialized or crowded. My family will definitely come back again when we next visit Japan.

・夕食後に布団を敷きにくる方とタイミングが被ったこと
・風呂の温度が高いこと(草津温泉の特性上致し方ないところもあるが。)
・洗面台の排水がなぜか毎回手動なこと(排水バーを固定する方法が分からなかった。)

上記3点除けば立地等含めかなりの高コスパ。到着から部屋までの案内、部屋到着後のお茶、お茶菓子のサービス、さらには説明等が素晴らしい。料理も満足。総じて高評価。

梅雨入りしてたので食事も温泉もこの宿で大正解だった。

草津温泉は初めてでしたが湯畑や西河原公園からの立地や口コミを見て2食付のプランで望雲に決めました。
バスターミナルから徒歩で10分くらい。
私達は早く着いたので西河原公園を少し寄り道してからチェックイン、夜に部屋飲みしたいなら湯畑を先に行ってコンビニで買い物を済ましておけば良かったです。
夜は雨が降っていたので食事も温泉も
全て館内で楽しめて尚良かったです。
夕食は18:30で決められてましたのでアクティブな方は時間調整は必要です。
個室に案内されて食べきれない程の品数と
追加のお料理、旅館のサービスなのかも？
すき焼きは冷めてしまうので固形燃料を追加してもらう方が良い！お米も最高に美味しかったです。朝食も品数多く見た目も綺麗でした。
コスパを考えると充分に納得のいける内容の老舗旅館でした。4〜5人グループで行くと尚楽しいかと思います。

接客も明るく気持ち良く過ごせました。
お湯もはさすが日本の三大名泉だけありぬるっとして肌がしっとりする感触で最高でした。脱衣所にはフェイスタオルが積まれており、気軽に何度でも入ることが出来、とても気の利いたサービスと思いました。食事も個室で落ち着き、味も美味しかったです。量は私達夫婦が割と少食な方ですが美味しいので完食したら食後1時間位は動けないほどでした^_^
旅館から歩いて2、3分のところに草津温泉の観光名所湯畑があり夕食後にライトアップされた湯畑や土産店を散策して温泉旅行の醍醐味を味わうことが出来て最高の旅行でした。

草津温泉望曇良かったですよ

旅館の人の対応、清潔感は素晴らしいてす。料理も素晴らしい。温泉も素晴らしい。ちょっと気になったのが、部屋が一階というのもあったのかも知れませんが、人が廊下を歩いてる？、時とか、隣の部屋の音がちょっと聞こえたり響いたりしたのが残念でした。
２階建て？の木造？だからしょうがないのかもしれませんね。
ロケーションも湯畑から少し離れてるので、騒がしくなく静かで良かったてす。

立地、食事、ホスピタリティ最高です

草津温泉といえば湯畑が中心になるかと思います。徒歩３分くらいなので、お昼はもちろん、夜のライトアップも気軽に行けます。温泉は２種類のお湯でどちらも最高でした。夕食朝食ともに頂きましたが全て美味しく、ゆったりとした時間を過ごすことができました。ホスピタリティに溢れる旅館で、総合的にみても次回も利用したいと思える旅館でした。草津温泉に行くさいは、ホテルよりゆっくり過ごすことができる旅館がおすすめです。

本館と新館があり、今回は本館利用でした。設備はどちらの建物も利用でき、新館の談話室は無料のコーヒーサービスもあり寛げる空間でした。浴場は3種類あり2種類の源泉掛け流しを楽しめるのですが、露天風呂がどれも空の抜けがあまりないです。宿の密集地なので、致し方ないでしょう。お料理は種類ボリュームとも平均的ですが、クオリティはもう少し高いものを望みます。また、少し乾き気味のお料理があったのは残念でした。最近は従業員が外国人の方が多いようですが、説明や受け答えが何か機械的で味気なかったです。

お料理が、シェフの一手間を感じられて、夕食も朝食も素晴らしかったです。部屋食の時のスタッフさんも終始笑顔で丁寧に控えめながらこちらを気遣ってサービスしてくれてよかったです。
露天風呂については、確かに外にあるのですが、景観はイマイチかなと。特に部屋についた露天風呂はプライバシーのこともあると思いますが全部木で囲われてて、露天ならではの開放感は感じられず残念でした。

居心地が良かった宿です。

草津温泉には何度か訪問してますが、大きめのホテル、家族的なペンションとどちらも一長一短でした。
今回のホテルは歴史ある宿でした。到着時から駐車場の案内、部屋の案内ととてもスムーズに感じました。
足の悪い母を気遣って階段の無いルートで部屋に案内され、食事も和室に椅子席でした。
設備は普通のホテルでも、従業員の方々のおもてなしに感謝します。

The hot spring is excellent! The staff are nice & friendly! The breakfast provided is delicious and we were so full after taking the breakfast.

まっちゃん

和で、ボディアロマをしました。癒しの効果を期待していたのに、ゴリゴリマッサージをされ、身体が目覚めてしまい、夜眠れませんでした。また、担当スタッフの説明が上から目線のイメージを受け、かなり不快な気分になりました。

Good ryokan with vegetarian option

Nobody come to get our luggage upon arrival at the car park. A bit unusual for Japanese ryokan.
Can arrange vegetarian meal upon request. Food quality not excellent but reasonable for the rate we paid.
Three public onsen are good. Japanese style room is spacious and clean.

很棒

要爬大約30公尺的斜坡離湯畑大概5分鐘。湯不錯價格不貴。有接送車站服務。餐也還可以。整體來說算蠻值得的。有機會還會想再來草津溫泉

온천탕의 원천수는 최고라고 하고 싶네요. 다만 아쉬운 부분은 신관 료칸대비 구 료칸은 시설 노후로
좀 아쉽습니다. 예약시 신관 료칸을 추천합니다.

楽しめました。

玄関や廊下に飾られた生け花がとても綺麗でした。お部屋も綺麗でしたし、湯畑からも遠くなく、観光しやすかったです。
色浴衣も500円でレンタルできて楽しく観光出来ました。
今回車でお邪魔したのですが、チェックアウトのあともお昼頃までなら大丈夫ですと、駐車場を利用させて頂けて助かりました。

しいて言えば、入館時、車を駐車場まで動かして下さったのですが、その後チェックアウトまで車の鍵を預かられてしたのがキーケースごと渡してしまったため不安で気になってしまいました。
鍵を預かる前に一言頂けたら鍵だけ渡せたなぁ。と感じました。

料理もおいしく　きれいなお部屋でした。お風呂が３か所　1日目が　男性2か所　　女性1か所　2日目が　その反対
女性は　2日目の　朝　出発前しか　２か所入れず　ばたばたしました。１日目の　夜に　1か所でも　入れ替えあれば。。。。また　チェックアウト　１１時だったら　もう少しゆっくりできました
でも　ゆくっりできて　満足です。

Traditional Onsen hotel with very nice decor. We arrived late since the GPS directed us to a longer way. Staff immediately arranged rooms and dinner for us. We booked 3 different rooms with different dinners in 3 separate bookings. As they did not realize we were a group, we had dinner in 3 rooms but one next to each other. We were arranged in one room for the breakfast the following day. Meal was good though not excellent. It impressed us most that a Cantonese (our mother tongue) speaking staff was arranged to serve our meal.It made us feel homed. Rooms were comfortable. We had a great deal with Expedia promotion. Staff also helped us to clean the snow of our car when we left.

Location of the hotel is great too. It is within 3 mins walk to the town centre but on a small hill that you could be kept away from crowded area. Walking distance to most tourists attractions.
