Overall, it’s a lovely resort. The room was nice, the grounds were really beautiful, the use of spa and pickleball courts is nice, resort pool was nice. We had a platter of fresh fruit and complimentary snacks in the room.
A few issues during our stay, though:
Our luggage was taken out of our car without our approval and then we didn’t have access to it for a while when we needed it. We were told it’d be brought to the lobby so we could get, but after over an hour, it hadn’t been. We did, however, get early check in where our luggage was delivered, which was appreciated.
We were a group of three and yet our room (sleeps four) only had two robes and wine glasses. They did bring extra upon request, but for the cost, we’d expect these things to be done proactively. I believe all rooms should be stocked for max capacity.
The “rise and shine” breakfast delivered was a tiny bottle of OJ, plain coffee, and a single croissant. Could be a nice touch but for 3 people to share, it was inadequate. Complimentary which is nice, but essentially breakfast for one.
The staff often told us conflicting answers to any questions, and were often bickering at each other in front of us.
The beach club area isn’t very nice (though the staff there were excellent). No proper loungers, just chairs. They did give us blankets to take though.
The sound bath was crowded and you can hear reception, which ruined the vibe.
Good stay but not up to price standards.

My date was a drunken mess but the property was fabulous. Highly recommend the beach club, Niko is amazing and takes care of every need while you are lounging and enjoying the private beach. Dog friendly resort and plenty of complimentary activities always happening on property like sound bowl events, coffee tastings, and the restaurant has some delicious offerings as well. Pool has great food & drink service and the chairs and setup are well spaced so you can feel like you are not being crowded and can relax.

Had the worst service in my entire life. First night they called me in the evening after I had gone to bed to tell me I didn't leave the keys in the car. After dressing, I walked down to the lobby only to let the valet know, he called the wrong person, it wasn't my car. Next day the waiter at the pool forgot to put my lunch order in and I had to tell I needed to cancel my order because it had taken more than 50 mins, it let me know he had forgotten to put it in. There were many other poor performances, but the kicker at the end of the stay, the valet said he would take care of getting the luggage in the car, so I tipped him and got in the car. I drove about a block and merged on to the highway when our luggage fell out on to the street because he had not closed our liftgate, and there wasn't a light on the rental car dash to let me know. I have traveled the world, and the management team has done a terrible job in training their team

This was the most perfect location for a major birthday milestone. The team went above and beyond to make us feel welcome and special, and we won't ever forget it. We really wish we were writing a more positive review... calamigos guest ranch itself is really gorgeous, the rooms are lovely and the staff is extra friendly but the food is so terrible that it made my fiance and I sick the entirety of our trip. Not only did it make us sick it just tasted so bad, was sloppily prepared, and was just very much so not worth what we were charged. This was so disappointing to us and made it so that we felt we could never come back unless we brought our own food. The restaurant which we went to for our special anniversary dinner was so bad that we had to send dishes back multiple times for being burnt, undercooked, overcooked, missing seasoning... the waiters themselves were apologizing horrified and even agreeing that their own food is terrible. No discounts were ever given on this terrible bad food that left us with stomach issues every single day of our trip.

I stayed at Calamigos Guest Ranch and Beach Club with my husband and my dog—and we had the best time! The property is located in a quiet, remote area of Malibu—the Ranch itself is very well maintained! We loved our premium private cottage that included an outdoor shower. We also loved the breakfast/brunch and lunch offered at the main restaurant—the black truffle croque monsieur and clam chowder pot pie were seriously incredible. The best part about Calamigos is that it’s pet friendly. They had a goodie bag for our dog upon check in that included dog treats, toys, bath items, and a doggy bandana! They also had a dog bed and dog bowls already set up in our room. And how can I forget to mention the dog room service!? Yes! You are provided a dog menu and can order room service, all day long, for your furry loved one—for free! During our stay, we also visited the Beach Club. What a gorgeous place that includes a full bar, restaurant, pool, showers, beach chairs, beach towels, and private beach access. The only reason I did not give 5 stars is because we did not receive good service (or any service for that matter) at the main pool. Aside from one other couple, we were the only people there and the server had a bad attitude and completely ignored us. We sat there for 30 minutes and she never came over to ask if we wanted something to eat or drink so my husband had to go get drinks and food himself. Even after getting our own drinks, she still never came over to check in on us.

They made you feel like you were bothering them by asking for water. Also no maid service…. Left the room at 10 am and went back to the room at 430 and nobody had came no new towels or anything. Called down and they said if it’s okay that the maid didn’t come… very annoying when you’re paying top dollar for an experience that just fell completely flat.

This hotel is amazing if you love being in nature. I would recommend trying to stay during the week if you are just coming to see the property- they can have up to 5 weddings and can be busy. The food was just okay. The meat they cook is very good, but the menu could use some help- even the breakfast food at the cafe was off. This matters because it is the only place to eat on the property. They are SUPER helpful and call you the week before you stay to make you reservations etc.

Bathroom separated from bedroom by only a curtain, no door. Great shower, great beds. Snacks and minibar free. Closest pool not heated, but warm pool and hot tub a short walk away. Noisy neighbors, but management talked to them. Bad meal experience, had to send dishes back twice! A hair in our food, but got it comped. Mediocre and expensive. Avoid the restaurants. Charged my card twice for security deposit, additional mystery $40 charge. Service top notch, everyone extremely helpful and nice. Surprising number of problems for such a pricey place (there is also a resort fee and mandatory valet parking), but great willingness to help fix problems. Still, who needs the headache when you're on vacation? A lovely splurge, but you'd think for the money you'd get professionalism and an issue-free experience.
