Staff were unresponsive and unhelpful. We left an item in our room and didn’t realize until we left. Despite multiple text messages, emails, and phone calls, we got no response whatsoever. We will not stay there again.

Although \"official\" check-in time ran from 4-6pm, we had advised the innkeeper a day in advance that we would be there around 8pm. Although we received no reply to that email, we assumed 8pm would be okay. The parking area seemed to be full, so we texted the innkeeper from the driveway, and went inside. We were greeted by a rather cranky gentleman, who said there was lots of room to \"park on the grass; it's dead anyway.\"
The room was okay, though it could have used a good cleaning: dustbunnies under the beds and around the baseboards, etc. The amenities, e.g., \"complimentary toiletries,\" consisted of a bottle of body wash, a bottle of shampoo/conditioner, a well-used sofsoap dispenser, and a stack of Q-tips. A glass, or even a paper cup to allow for a glass of water in the room would have been nice. We were curious about the extension cord in our room that disappeared through a hole in the wall.
On the bright side, the beds were very comfortable and the Inn is in a great location, just a very short walk to restaurants and other downtown Stratford attractions. Overall though, it's case of what may once have been historic charm that's now just old.

Friendly staff, small creature comforts would be greatly appreciated especially when you're spending almost $500 per night like a couple bottles of water in the room. The TV didn't work also quite cold in that room maybe a small unit heater other than that Very Unique Pl., Stratford always great.

Zero Responsiveness

This hotel has ZERO responsiveness. I tried to call them for over a week before my trip and sent them messages through Hotels.com to discuss my plans. They never responded to anything, nor even answered the phone. While I was trying to get in touch my window to cancel closed. I suppose that was all the incentive they needed to continue to not respond to anything.

The room was clean enough. Clean bedding and floors. The bathroom was not as clean as it could have been. Dirty blinds, lots of scum buildup around the sink faucets, a long hair on the shower wall. The toilet stopped flushing. When the Innkeeper was texted as per instructions in the foyer, there was no response. We fixed it ourselves. Sticking my hand in the toilet tank is not usually an activity I expect when at an Inn. Coffee and pastries were mentioned in the booking details. Coffee was good. No pastries in sight.

We found the inn to be clean and comfortable. Our room was very nice and the proximity to the town and theaters was great. The one drawback to this inn is that they do not provide anything more than coffee or tea. The cost of the rooms are not inexpensive and a small continental breakfast would have made the experience excellent. There are a number of bakeries in the town that could have provided an array of goods at a reasonable cost to the inn keepers that would have raised the experience to the next level. Parking on site was more than adequate.

We loved our stay. Our room was very comfortable. The history of the place was very interesting. Check in/out was easy. 10 minutes walk to the main square in town, so close to everything. The Secret Garden room is technically the attic, but that makes the room super roomy. Temp was a little warm but there’s an air conditioner so we were very comfortable. There are another set of stairs to get to the room, so be warned. Otherwise, super clean and comfortable stay.
Charming old victorian style building. We explored the first floor a bit where there is coffee and pastries in the morning. There is also coffee and a water cooler available on the 2nd floor.
Location was close to everything.

They never returned my call or my email. So if you want to check in early it is a hard NO. But otherwise place was lovely.

Self serve entry and checkout is convenient. Parking is available but quite tight spaces at back of building. Comfortable bed. Our room had a funny smell and we had to keep windows wide open all night. Recommend a shower upgrade from the claw footed tub.

A tad disappointing

The hotel (at least my room) was very tired...I was disappointed because I booked the room with a deep claw foot tub with the sole purpose of taking a relaxing bath...but the tub condition didn't make that possible.

No instructions or welcome note was left in the room regarding wifi, payment, breakfast (or not), history of the building, general rules, thanks for choosing us, etc. I was simply shown to my room, given my key and that was it.

No plug near the bed for cellphone.

Positives...The bed was comfortable, and it was quiet. Good proximity to downtown. Ample parking (free). If staying for an extended period, there are nice sitting areas outside..and a billiards/game room inside.

The Stone Maiden is lovely, but the location is a challenge for a visitor with mobility issues and no car. Although close to the centre, there are significant 'hills and dales' to manage. Taxis in Stratford charge a flat $13 regardless of the distance, so that extra cost must be considered.
My room was on the third floor with many stairs to climb, so that should be a consideration. Nevertheless, I was very fortuntate to find The Stone Maiden at a late date for booking. Someone must have cancelled.

This is an absolutely gorgeous old Victorian structure that innkeeper Tim has restored beautifully. Where else can you stay that offers a billiards table in a warmly restored parlor!
Location is superb for walking to all the Stratford Festival Theatres!

Staff were great! We were looking for a place to drop our bags before check-in and that was easily (for us) accommodated. On check-in, everything was shown to us - keys, coffee station, ice, a/c machine, etc. We had a little issue in our room when we returned after 11:00 pm but Tim dealt with it efficiently. Charming house in a good location!

I stayed in the Lewis Terrace room for a week while attending the theatre festival. The room was charming, and furnished in a way that gave me options for arranging the seating area - which let me set up the perfect reading nook. I really appreciated having both air-conditioning and a ceiling fan, and I was able to keep myself comfortable during some very hot weather.

It was great to have coffee served in the dining room in the mornings, and also access to coffee, tea and a fridge at all times.

The building is located in very easy walk of the centre of town, but in a quiet residential area close to walking trails, and it also has its own garden with a choice of outdoor seating areas.

Tim was very quick to respond to questions before my stay, and welcoming and helpful throughout my stay.

We found 2 bugs in our bed. Owner was dismissive with our situation and denied that they had bed bugs when we called. No solution was offered as it was 11:30pm. We could not stay and left to go back home and cancelled our weekend plans. Contacted owner for a solution for this terrible experience but have yet to hear from them.

When I booked this on expedia it said there would be pastries for breakfast in the morning. There were no pastries.
When I checked in, I was put in the wrong room. I thought perhaps this was done by the hotel but later realized it was not.
I rang the bell to alert someone and after 15 minutes of no answer I texted. I was meeting friends for dinner and going to a play so was not going to be back until after 10.00. While I was at the restaurant I got a response saying had I left and yes, I was in the wrong room. The person then asked if they could move my things into the right room, which I was not happy about but had no choice given my timing.
The coffee and water machines were not working properly.
It was a disappointing experience and definitely not cheap.

This was a random event booking by us for a play in Stratford and boy did we ever luck out. This place was terrific. The owner was a pleasant guy, the room was comfortable and large, even though it was one of their smallest rooms. Really? King bed, main floor. Nicest room we were in during our two week trip out east. It was walking distance to Tom Patterson theatre, and downtown breakfast spots. Definitely would go back. A++.

Convenient location to downtown theatres and restaurants, Stone House is a characterful and well maintained large Victorian/Queen Anne home.
Lovely grounds with ample parking and though it is situated beside a railway track, we only heard one train go by.

There’s a lovely large breakfast room, but since Covid, the owners have elected not to serve breakfast in order to keep the room price down, that’s a shame that this room really doesn’t get used to any more.

We booked this inn based on a previous stay of a friend. Clean, comfortable and unique. As stated, they don’t serve breakfast, but coffee and tea is available all day long. The bed was firm and comfortable. We stayed in the Princess Diana room. The room is decorated accordingly with relevant paraphernalia. Overall, lovely and quaint stay!

But most people go to Stratford for the theatre and it’s good for that. Good location, charming old house. No breakfast so maybe BNB stands for bed and bathroom….

We stayed one night in the Lewis Terrace room while attending a performance at the Festival Theatre. The Inn is undergoing renovations so I won't comment on the general condition of the property. Also we did not partake of the complementary breakfast. The room was unique with a comfortable queen bed with nice sheets and pillows. However the bathroom had only one light over the sink and mirror while the toilet and bathtub/shower were in darkness. In spite of running the faucet for an extended time there was no hot water!

I had read many reviews of the property and saw that some of the more recent showed improvement over time. I did not feel like the property \"sparkled\". Our room was cramped (Romeo and Juliet) while it was \"en suite\", the shower was next to the bed. with the sink and toilet across the room. We could not lower window or close blinds so were unable to control nighttime lighting.
Several people had complained because no breakfast, so we didn't expect any, but were pleasantly surprised to find tea and coffee, some bread items and a bit of yogurt which was enough for us. We decided the property is just too big to manage without full-time on site management.

This charming historic inn is located close to all the shops and restaurants in downtown Stratford and just a couple of blocks away from the Avon theatre. The manager was there helping us with our bags when we checked in and again when we were leaving. I was very happy with my beautiful 4 poster bed, nice linens, etc. We'll be back.
