The room itself is large but dated, and only 2 of the 5 lights worked. The lights beed attention from an electrician as one was hanging off the wall and is dangerous. The annex is run down, boarded up windows, blocked drains, overflows running, windows that do not fit etc.

Go elsewhere is my advice.

Best to find somewhere else.

The hotel does not exist and is closed currently. Instead, you are directed to a lock box to get access to the accommodation in the annex to the rear. This really is in a very poor state of repair.
I think I was the only guest on the night of my stay and felt vulnerable and would question whether it is safe or not with no on-site staff.
I had the choice of any establishment north of Lancaster and chose this, unfortunately.
Don’t make the same mistake I did.
No facilities whatsoever and you have to lodge your car reg with ‘someone’ or risk a £100 fine.
My complaint fell on deaf ears and ‘someone’ thinks this is acceptable accommodation. It is not.
The worst place I have stayed in 35 years on the road.

The communication was really poor. I only got an answer from the hotel on the day of arrival.
The emails were polite but the in-person customer service was not good or welcoming.
The lockbox is faulty and difficult to open, unless you rive it open at the bottom. There is a knack to it. You won’t be able to open it if you have arthritis or hand issues.
The general building is dingy. And rundown. One of the windows in the corridor had a wooden panel in.
The room we stayed in was one of the better ones, I imagine, but the mattress was extremely soft and old. Do not sleep here if you have a bad back or shoulders.
The main room was clean.
The sugars for hot drinks were from McDonalds!
The bathroom was not cleaned properly. There were bits of dirt and scum on the floor and bath panels. And around fittings and fixtures.
The water was hot and plentiful. Toilet rolls and toiletries were included.
No towels were provided. We had to ask for them the next day.
It is more of a hostel than a hotel.
No breakfasts were provided when we stayed.
It’s worth no more than £40 per night. I would never stay here again. It wasn’t a good overall experience.

Disappointed, don't book there.

I booked The County Hotel as a last-minute treat for my partner while we visited for his late brother’s birthday memorial. Sadly, the stay was hugely disappointing and we didn’t even end up staying the night.

When we arrived, the room was in a shocking state. The bedsheet had a brown stain on it, which immediately made us question whether the bedding had been changed. Half the lights in the room didn’t work, making it feel dark and unwelcoming. The door to the bathroom even had a hole in it that looked like it had been punched, which made us feel uncomfortable. On top of that, the TV remote was broken, with the back missing so the batteries kept falling out — another sign that the room hadn’t been checked properly.

The final straw came from the guests in the room next door. Smoke from their room came through into ours, and as I suffer from asthma, this quickly triggered irritation in my chest and breathing problems. In a hotel that should be smoke-free, this is completely unacceptable and left me with no choice but to leave.

This was meant to be a comforting trip at a difficult time, but instead it added unnecessary stress and disappointment. Clean sheets, working lights, safe doors, and smoke-free rooms are the bare minimum any guest should expect — but The County Hotel failed on every count.

We left without staying and will never return. Sadly, I cannot recommend this hotel to anyone.

Decent shower but that's about it regrettably

Virtual check in to open a key safe on the front door of the adjacent building. Our room key wasn't in it. However, someone was in the annexe (where the rooms are) and met us at the door. Room was large, but quite dark as the only window was obscured by trees. There were cobwebs all over both at ceiling and floor level. Bathroom was very dated and the basin tap dripped loudly so we had to wrap a towel round it. There was damp on the ceiling of the bathroom and the sealing was mouldy. Grab rails were rusty. TV was too small for the size of the room and the remote was dirty and didn't work. The entire site had litter around it and the car park wasn't maintained. There was a boarded up window in the passage. On the plus side, the hot water was good as was the shower and the hotel (use the term losely) was centrally located. Ned was too soft for me, but my friend liked hers. Bedding and towels were clean. I would.have expected to pay under £50 pn for something of this standard. Wouldn't return and can't recommend.

It served the purpose for the night however it was a very uncomfortable stay there was a large Moth and Spider in the room to greet us. Quite dusty room and bed. And the overall area and building felt unsafe. Will not recommend this place or return for a stay. Only decent part of our stay was the kind lady Emily who remotely checked us in.

Ok for two nights

Room was quite big which was great. Had all we needed. The condition was tired and bathroom is in need of an update. Wobbly tap, mildew surround, tiles coming off. Shower pressure was good. Two beds in the room, one mattress was fine, the other you could feel the springs. Dismantled it to add the spare quilt under the sheet for comfort and found stains on the mattress cover. There was a dirty towel left on the back of the door and a coffee cup lid behind the chair-more care needed when cleaning up. No toilet roll left. It was warm, adequate for our needs.

Not a place to stay.

A bit shocked when we turned up. Not what a expert. Overgrown bushes around the place, locked up properly which looked closed down (which it was) phone number to call to get a key code to get the keys to the room, lady was really helpful, the rooms are not in the main building, they are separate to the back. Finally got into hall way, never good to see a window boarded up, got into the room, First impression where wow, how big is this room, never stayed in one so big.
Thats where the good bits end.
Wind noise from the window due to it being broken (no latch and catch), poor lighting, one not working in the bathroom, one broken in the main room. Next, some youths use the space under the building to smoke weed, stuck really bad.
On are last night, someone in the next room had left the bathroom extractor when they left, sounded like a helicopter in our room, phone the number that where given for out off hours service, both went to answer phone, 5 days later still no reply.
3 nights away with only one nights sleep. Will not be going back.
Carnforth itself isnt a bad place, the locals where friendly.

Spacious family suite for a very reasonable price. The bathroom and bedding was clean. A little dusty in places. Corridors need a good clean and there was a boarded window. Check-in worked well but couldn't get hold of anyone before arriving despite using all channels via booking site, direct telephone number, text etc. Was concerned it didn't actually exist but it worked well for us.

After phoning twice their published number to get access codes for my stay they responded mid evening to my calls. As I was not sure I would get a response I had had to make alternate arrangements to ensure accomodations for the night.
To rub salt in the wound I was sent two parking tickets for 60 pounds each when I parked in their lot to make the two phone calls.

Check is is self service key in a key lock which was fine. Lodge had broken/boarded up windows in corridor which wasn’t very welcoming. Room was clean but
Curtain hanging off
Tie backs for curtains gone showing paint and screw holes so not finished decor
Aerial on TV didn’t work. And very noisy early in the morning.
Pub itself we never saw it open ( I know it doesn’t say it’s a pub but that’s not clear from some of the pictures shown on site).

Very good sized room - but definitely the building and surrounding area were very 'tired' looking.
When we arrived to be absolutely honest we didn't think it was open.
That all said, the location was excellent (we used it as a stop-over travelling down from Scotland to The Midlands) and the staff we spoke to remotely were very friendly and helpful.
Although The County Lodge Brasserie wasn't open when we stayed, the Station Hotel (few minutes walk away) was a decent place to eat.
Overall, the location was decent value for money (but would be good to see weeds from guttering removed and broken windows repaired, then I think overall it would look far more appealing)

“Run down” would be a generous description. “In need of renovation” would also not suffice.
Rooms are in the annex a short walk across the car park. Toilet would not flush properly but they had kindly provided a bucket to fill from the shower!
Went to check out at 8:30 and found the building locked and abandoned with a key safe hanging on the door handle, presumably to drop off the key.
It wasn’t even very cheap; wouldn’t go back if you paid me.

Nice stay in a basic budget room

The lodge bar and restaurant was closed during my stay and I collected my room key by calling a number then opening a lock box. This was fine and no trouble.
The room was basic but clean and tidy with everything I needed, tea, coffee, kettle, milk, soap etc.
I was on my own for a one night stay and the location was great with plenty of parking. I travelled by motorcycle so it was to find plenty of things to chain it to.
Even with the bar closed there were plenty of places to eat and drink within a short walk and I found some cracking real ale and craft ale pubs with friendly locals.

Hotel looks to be struggling

This not a lodge and brasserie, this is just a hotel because the restaurant is closed. The restaurant looked abandoned. The hotel rooms are in a separate building. Missing or broken glass panes had been boarded up. In the rooms, lights did not work, there were unpainted bits of wall behind the curtains, tiles were missing in the bathroom. There were lights not working in the hallway/stairs. The general building condition was poor. The deluxe double room option was no different to the normal double room except for more floor space.

Sadly this place has started to look very unloved and shabby. The bar and dining in the main building still looks ok but does need a little tlc. However, the Lodge actually looks like a condemned building! The surroundings are full of weeds and the place in in dire need of some paint and repairs. The bedrooms initially didn't appear to bad, just a little dated..however we soon discovered several things not working including 2 x lights so it was very dingy. We also found out in the morning that the window that opened straight onto the side of the street was actually open slightly and it didn't have a handle to close it! Advised staff politely upon leaving and they were lovely and very apologetic.
This places sorely needs to some love, attention and updating if it is to survive.

great overnight stop from Lakes to Settle Railway

Our overnight was prior to Settle-Carlisle Railway, and we thoroughly enjoyed our time - bar, restaurant and lodging were all great. The guestrooms in the building behind the brasserie were so quiet and pleasant. Emily served us on both arrival and departure and was helpful many times in between! She's so friendly and ready to assist at any point, and she made our stay a pleasure.

Large spacious room. Good continental breakfast. Thank you to Emily for her assistance. We did have a window in our room that would not close. Also the surrounding outside area around the car park requires some maintaining.

This is a good B&B for people who are passing through. It is pretty basic but this is reflected in a very reasonable price. The service was ok but suffered from being understaffed. The young man on the bar was very friendly and gave us some good suggestions for local places to visit.

Poor Room At Lodge

This use to be a very neat and tidy establishment. Unfortunately it has become run down with a lack of care and maintenance. Outside patio area growing weeds and there was a rusting broken chair present. My room had been of a reasonable standard, but was now looking somewhat dated and the mattress on the bed was well past its use by date as you felt the base and frame of the bed. I enquired about a change of room or the mattress was changed, but nothing was available apart from reporting to management. Stay Wednesday through Friday night, not happy.

The Decline of the County

We have stayed at the County several times over the years the main reason being the superior car park and its central location. Unfortunately this hotel has suffered through changes of ownership and a lack of investment plus staffing problems to lose its status as Carnforths premier hotel. The hotel is mainly clean and tidy with a modern bar and dining room but the bedrooms are dated with the bath rooms still sporting the original coloured bathroom suites from the mid 90s and old showers which could only be described as a drizzle. The staff who were very friendly and helpfull all seemed to have been drafted in at the last minute to cover staff shortages. We were informed that due to a lack of a chef there would only be a continental breakfast a great disappointment.I was involved in the construction of the accommodation block in the mid 90s so i feel qualified to comment how this once great hotel has lost its way.

Short of staff and probably now getting most business from workers and bikers, this small hotel on a busy corner has seen better days. Plus points: very clean room with a decent bed, bedding and towels, adequate hair dryer and a kettle with storage sufficient for short stay. Weaker items: check in, it took 15 mins searching and calling to find someone and having emptied my car i then discover my room is outside in another decrepit building up some stone steps. No help offered. Bathroom, tiles need re grouting and toilet flushes only with several swings of handle. Lights must be 20 watt as very gloomy. TV too small to see any words from bed. Breakfast not proper continental as just yoghurt, bread, pastries with toaster. No ham, cheeses and such. Also laid for exact numbers limiting choices. No tea range.
Overall this seemed £20 too much given how tired it is and while staff are pleasant there is no passion to be in hospitality, no enquiry as to enjoyment or offers of info. Met cleaning lady who seems an asset. Used as stop over on way to funeral. Did not re book for return journey. Did morning walk on canal side and place is littered and too much dog pooh. Very sad place gone to seed.

Very reasonably priced, and very clean. Plenty of choice on the buffet breakfast.
It’s a bit dated, and was very stuffy on the night we stayed. There was loud music until the early hours, but this isn’t the fault of the hotel. It was a Saturday night

When we arrived we were informed that although we had booked they had a “known issue” with Expedia bookings not always going through and there were no rooms available for us. We were two females in a completely unknown area. We were offered a room where a staff member slept but there was no working toilet and you needed to fill an ice bucket with water and tip it down a few times to flush the toilet. As there was no other accommodation we could find nearby we accepted this at a discounted rate of half price for the two nights. We had to wait for them to clean the room and change bedding etc. We stayed one night and then decided to cut our trip short and head back home early. We used the room in the afternoon to freshen up before going to check out. The manager was incredibly rude about us checking out early, and her overall attitude was not hospitable in the slightest. I would not book there again.

The room in a separate block was ok..but strangely you had to walk right ariund the main building to get to it...and in reverse for breakfast..ok today but in the winter?
The wall holder for the hairdryer was loose and therefore unsafe..continental breakfsst was very meagre and items had to be chased up with the waitress who came in and out.
Location is good and parking convenient and the room was clean though smekt musty as if not used for a while

At the end of the day you get what you pay for and for what I paid I suppose it was just ok

Mediocre stay, booked purely for convenience for an activity we were doing nearby, certainly doesn’t live up to expectations from its name, Lodge and Brasserie ? 🤔 Staff were lovely, evening meal very pleasant however this was spoilt by a very basic continental breakfast 😱
The Bar and Restaurant modern and clean, Hotel exterior separate accommodation block, rooms themselves and car park very tired indeed, a Motel stuck in the 1970’s springs to mind ? 🤔 As for the local pub scene, I can only speak for a couple we tried but needless to say we won’t be going back to Carnforth any time soon 🤔

On arrival we ordered a hot cooked meal for the evening.
When we went in to dine there was not a person in site to serve us. After waiting for almost an hour I went to look around the hotel to try and find someone. Eventualy I found the manager who had no clue that we would be expecting a hot meal as another couple had come in earlier and had the food that was meant for us.
We went up to our room after no alternative was offered and had a small snack that we had brought with us.
We thought it absolutely diabolical the way we were treated and would under no circustance would we go there again or recommend it to anyone.

The room was clean , comfortable and a good size with two armchairs . Good sized bathroom . There was a shower over the bath but separate controls. I told the hotel I was gluten and dairy free and they provided me with three soya yoghurts , gf porridge , dairy free margerine and gf bread and smashed avocado to give me a choice . Customer service was good . Decent coffee too

The carpets were pretty stained, both in the room and corridors. The mattresses were old, lumpy, creaky, and uncomfortable. The shower “door” was leaky, so the bathroom floor was wet once the shower was over, and there was mould in much of the seal around the bath. The extractor fan in the bathroom made a terrible noise, there TV remote (for the tiny TV) didn’t work. The table in the bar/restaurant hadn’t been cleaned before we sat down at it, and it didn’t get cleaned even after we had ordered food. The staff were pleasant enough, but they didn’t seem too keen to serve quickly.

Disappointing

Although signposted reception wasn’t really reception it was the bar - it was clear we were looking to book in but the staff didn’t acknowledge that. To get to our room we had to go out of the hotel across the car park as it’s separate. The hotel is on the corner of two main roads so is very noisy. The interior of the room is dated and needs modernising. The mattress was so soft every-time my husband moved I moved too it was like being on a water bed. The tv screen was smaller than a pc screen and the toilet roll was nothing more than one-ply…..
Breakfast the following morning was also disappointing - the food was swimming in liquid from the mushrooms and the poached egg was more like a hard boiled egg and it’s not like it was busy we were the only ones sat down eating….

Very Accommodating ...

We ordered a family room as was in Lancaster taking a tour of the University with my daughter. On arrival we were told they had allocated us two rooms as the pull out bed in the family room wasn't really suitable for an adult. They didn't have to do this as my daughter would have slept ok on the on the 3rd bed but they put our comfort first at no extra cost. Rooms were a great size and very clean so if my daughter does pick Lancaster as her university we will definitely stay again
