Great staff. Nice bar. Lovely outside. Room walls were very thin, could hear the guy snoring nextdoor. Any conversation in the hallway, I could hear. Not worth what I spent to be honest. It’s not as bad as I’m going to say but inside needs taking apart and rebuilding to more solid foundations. I know what I’m getting at a premier inn or holiday inn. Shame really as the location is immense

The whole hotel although it had much character had a run-down feeling about it.
Enjoyed walking in the grounds and close to town centre.

The hotel setting is delightful and has a real 'old country house' feel to it. There is a resident long-tailed peacock, who made very loud and frequent 'crows' and once flew from some high trees at dusk, which was amazing! The bar and a restaurant are next to each other and the staff were pleasant and very helpful. The full breakfast was excellent, if a little pricey at £14.50, although this was probably equivalent to any cafe price nowadays.

I was grateful to be upgraded to a twin room for no extra charge! However, there were some practical points I found unhelpful and maybe the hotel could give them some thought, given that my room tariff on the wall near reception was £170 pp per night!

There were two double sockets fitted over a heavy desk, which partially covered the sockets and without moving the desk out slightly, it was impossible to use my chargers or the kettle.

The bathroom was in good order and the shower very good, but the grab rail was dangerously loose and I didn't want to use it. I'm 72 years old and just beginning to appreciate the benefits of a grab rail, but this could not be used safely. It was also installed near the tap end and might have been more useful at the back of the bath?

The windows were old and heavy and I had to climb onto a seat in the window bay to open them - I like fresh air! There were a number of elderly people staying who might have found it difficult to solve these problems...

But I would certainly stay here again!

What we liked: Superior sea view room, with breathtaking scenery. Really lovely woodland paths around the hotel to get lost in, and only a 15 minute walk from Grange Over Sands. Bed was very comfy and staff were very friendly and helpful.

What could be better: Cleanliness of the bathroom. Clearly marked vegan options or more readily available vegan options on the dinner and bar menus - it was a bit tricky working out what we could eat!

I slept well despite a noisy group of people with no etiquette regarding staying in an hotel. The grounds are stunning - you really are in the midst of nature.

The Cumbria Grand is exactly what it sounds like — a big, old, atmospheric hotel with bags of heritage charm. And to its credit, that charm is real. The historic style works in its favour... right up until you notice the peeling paint and the layer of dust on the common area surfaces, at which point 'vintage' starts to feel more like 'overdue a renovation'.

The rooms, to be fair, are clean and comfortable — just a little tired and in need of some maintenance love. Perfectly fine for a night or two.

The bar is worth a visit — good quality food — although pricey. Parking was a squeeze when we arrived, though a function was on that day, so hopefully not always the case.

Overall enjoyable enough, but some proper TLC would make a world of difference.

Really charming hotel, great pleasure to stay there and imagine how grand it must have been in it's heyday. Incredible charming surroundings and views.

However, not terribly clean, some issues owing to age of property but a lot was evidence of a lack of fastidiousness with cleaning e.g. dirty cups in room, unemptied kettle with old water in it, stagnant smell in the room.

Staff were helpful and kind. Would stay again, perhaps in a nicer room.

This is a lovely old Victorian hotel, which you can see was once grand, but is now a little tired and in need of repair. Excellent location- views from the dining room over the bay are beautiful. Staff are polite and helpful. Room was clean on arrival, but daily housekeeping was limited to the basics. Lots of supplies such as sachets of tea/coffee/milk available at reception as self service (to top up what is in the room) is a good idea. I think this hotel is good value for money, but needs investment to truly reflect it's name as a \"grand\" hotel.

I believe dinning room table signs marked “Set for Dinner” would help people from eating Breakfast at a Dinner table. When I want to eat I don’t look at how much silverware is on the table. I still don’t know what the silverware at the 12 o’clock position is for!

Nice looking hotel with a warm welcome at reception. The Windermere Suite was spacious, clean with a good welcome package but was a little shabby and the toilet seat was plastic and not secure. Small points. It was too hot and there was no air conditioning. I asked at reception for a fan but was told there wasn't one. However, when we returned the next day from a day in the Lakes there was a fan in the room. A gesture that is both impressive and much appreciated.
The bar food was resonanly priced, of good quality and the service was excellent.
The breakfast was good too.
The snooker table etc were on a lower ground floor which was very musty and the smell was overpowering so we didn't use these facilities.
The pros definitely outweigh the cons and we did enjoy our stay. Thank you.

It is a huge building, could perhaps do with a bit of renovating in some areas, however that said I can appreciate it would be a massive undertaking, and it did not detract from our stay.

Was very dog friendly, with a woodland walk which was a real plus for our dog first thing in the morning and last thing in the evening, as in some dog friendly hotels they just have a little bit of lawn for the dogs.

The property is a lovely place that has kept its unique original features. The Victorian facades and interior are refreshingly maintained. The staff are all very welcoming and genuinely friendly. Well located in a rural spot but 5 minutes walk into town, via the sea front promenade.

Despite being an old building and in need of some repairs we found the hotel to be very comfortable. Our room had been updated and was lovely. Staff were very good, helpful, friendly and infinately patient despite being very busy. (3 coach parties in all week, as well as other bookings). Food was very good quality and the chefs pleasant and helpful.

Hotel in dire need of refurbishment. Windows not double glazed and thin walls means overnight disturbance from traffic, noisy guests in adjacent rooms, and peacock emitting loud squark at regular intervals. Need to bring your own soap etc as only provide second hand wash cream. Hotel appears popular with coach tours (heaven knows why) so bar and restuarant get very overcrowded at times (3 coach loads when I stayed). No tourist information guides or leaflets in hotel, only leaflets about their other hotels mainly based in Scotland, so not much use in Cumbria!

Hotel was great, very big old style country house. Luckily we got upgraded to a superior sea view so bigger bed, nice little balcony where you can stand or sit inside and look out over the golf course and sea.

5 star rating only because this hotel was actually low priced, if it cost more I’d probably be disappointed with a few areas for the price.

Generally condition of the hotel was quite low, carpets are stained, all the paintwork around the windows and balcony rails was peeling off.

English breakfast was good but there’s not much other variety. There was 1 type of croissant but not a regular one, almost like a brioche or soft bread type.

At a minimum I’d want a proper croissant (you buy them frozen in bulk and cook them in 20 mins, same with all the other pastries), plus some Nutella sachets so you can kind of have a chocolate pain (that’s how quite a few European hotels do it). Also some small chocolate muffins.

Obviously chocolate pains would be even better. Also a bit of bread with European style emmental cheese, maybe tomatoes and cucumber would be nice as well for a sandwich in the morning instead of full English. Already had ham and salami and Serrano ham so a few extra bits would be nice. Fresh apple juice was fine but the orange wasn’t fresh, it tasted like watered down squash.

Parking is safe and completely away from any roads or paths, good to park my motorcycle there, and maybe more expensive car owners will appreciate.

Oh and there’s a peacock there.

Amazing, safe stay for a solo traveller

The hotel looks grand (literally); has a beautiful outside area; a near by woodland area; is very pet friendly; and the best part was the receptionists smiley and helpful face! She was wonderful and attentive to ensure I felt safe and well as a solo traveller with my pooches! Although the room is a little more on the old fashioned, it was clean, fresh and the bed was exceptionally comfortable! The black out blinds were amazing so overall, an amazing place! Will be staying here again in the future, thank you

Property is a little tired .Faded Victorian grandure but is only classed as 3 star which would be accurate .Set in 20 acres of its own grounds so is very quiet, with woodland walks and a lovely view across Morcambe bay .Word of warning it is a steep walk up from the main road to hotel and is the only pedestrian way .plenty of car parking at the top though .Overall for the price i would use again .

The Cumbria Grand is in a beautiful setting our room was clean and warm, the decor is undoubtably out dated being from the 1980’s and could do with a makeover the French windows were a little draughty, the en-suite was clean and everything worked there was a tv and kettle in the room with coffee and tea ( topups were available in the foyer) it is a “dog friendly hotel” however our furry friends are only allowed in small rooms off the main dining area which kind of spoils the ambiance of the hotel it also makes it difficult if your pet is scared of larger animals as there is little space within the allocated dining area. The breakfast was nicely cooked with a good choice of cereals and pastries

nice location, lovely bed, good sized room. I had the chicken salad from their bar menu and that was pretty decent too, only down side there was the slightly stale bread. all in all a really good stay, and id definitely go back, especially at tge last minute £54 price!

The Cumbria Grand is a palace of a building overlooking Morecambe Bay and the Kent estuary. One senses its boom days are over, but it survives rather well, embracing wedding parties and coach tours. My twin room had a breathtaking view of the estuary, looking over to Arnside. The bed was extremely comfortable; the shower worked well. The breakfast buffet was very good indeed, with a fine selection of hot items, including black pudding (a favourite). I didn’t dine here but the dinner menu looked pretty good. The hotel is in impressive grounds - with its own woodland walk (recommended, but boots required at this time of year). If you walk down the hotel’s longish drive and cross the main road, you’ll see a bridge over the railway leading to the start of Grange promenade and a five-minute walk to the railway station. You really couldn’t wish for a finer setting and if the hotel is just a little faded, it hasn’t lost its charm. I’ll definitely be staying here again.
