Couples Cabin stay with dog

Highly recommend staying here in the woodland cabins. We had a 3 night stay here with our dog and it was great. The cabin is comfortable and comes with all amenities needed, as well as a hot tub to relax after long walks around the Lake District. It’s located close to a trail which runs all the way to Lakeside on Lake Windermere. From here you can get boat trips and ferries to most places. Breakfast was standard full English, with cereals, pastries and tea / coffee. This was ok and self serve. We ate in the restaurant also and the food menu for dinner was very good, serving nice local sourced food which we enjoyed. Staff were friendly and helpful with requests. We would stay again for definite!

Busy hotel but it is The Lakes in high season. Hotel has character but a bit dated. Jacuzzi bath was broken on our visit. Breakfast service staff lax and often ran out of coffee, and items from the cold continental section and toaster constantly tripped out and stopped working. Overall a nice stay though and some good walks on the doorstep.

Room and breakfast were good. Parking was a problem if you returned late for the day- however we did stay a Saturday so probably busier than usual. Breakfast was good. Rooms were very hot- I would have expected bottled water or an offer of iced tap water to take to your room and or cold sheets.

A few noisy clients and a door that banged every time someone came through.

Wasn’t too happy when wishes had already reset tables for dinner during breakfast, telling we couldn’t sit there.

Also, the internet TV wasn’t working which was a shame as I was looking forward both night to watch a moving on be of my streaming services.

This is a great location and the staff are brilliant. The hotel is basic but acceptable.

I’d strongly encourage you not to accept Room one in the annex.. tell them when you book that you don’t want it. The floorboards above are ridiculously noisy and the occupant of the room only has to move gently and it sounds like the ceiling is going to fall in on you. Unfortunately, for me, they were early rises and consequently it was a terrible night sleep for me.

OK to stay, with great evening food

The location is good, very handy for travelling around. The staff were great and the food in the evenings was absolutely excellent. The beds are ok but not a great night's sleep - we stayed 3 nights and the floorboards creak a lot. The bathroom could do with modernisation. Having to climb into a bath with no grab rails, to take a shower could be dangerous for anyone with balance issues. Wifi is patchy to non-existent in some rooms though when we reported that they said they would check the signal booster. Breakfast is plentiful, but the old problem of leaving trays of fried eggs out under a heat lamp. for continental visitors there are no cold meats and cheeses. I think they could do better on that. It does get busy for food in the evening so do book. I would worry a bit about warm weather and needing to leave windows open on the road-facing rooms as that could be noisy. Not a problem in winter. Overall good but could do better.

The staff were all excellent and attractive. The room was comfortable. The spa-bath in our en-suit was a lithe noisy but fun.
We enjoyed a swim in the pool, not huge, but not busy.
The only negative was breakfast was not very hot but otherwise the restaurant dinner was lovely, and we thoroughly enjoyed our weekend. Great location for exploring the south lakes and Furness peninsula.

Great experience staying in a Cabin. Lovely staff on arrival and for dinner service. Great food, and awesome to have breakfast delivered one morning for a reasonable add-on price.
Would have been nice to know that the steam room was out of action prior to stay, but as we had the private hot tub with the Cabin this didn't impact our enjoyment of the stay

Superior Deluxe double room on Hotels dot con for £183 a night advertised with private outdoor hot tub. I believe it's a mistake by hotels dot con the staff were lovely and helpful and this review shouldn't reflect on them or there customer service.

There is no PRIVATE hot tub with this option at all. The hotel was average very creeky floors and 4 poster bed quite dated very very noisy bed. The room was reasonably clean despite mould on the bath sealant. Shame the bathroom window didn't open too. Breakfast was good apart from it bugged me that not one of the curtain rails above the doors were straight.

A little overpriced for what it was. £80-£100 would have been more reasonable and that's only because it's in the lakes.

Not somewhere I'd stay again.

The positives: Friendly Staff, Warm Room, Food was good.

Lights on outside the window coming through the curtains. Creeking bed and certainly not a silent night mattress. Cleaning in the bathroom needs attention. Staff were friendly and attentive.

Second visit to Newby. Swimming pool cold and needs updating, bed too hard for us and we had a disturbed night due to hearing washing machines and tumble dryers.
Food Ok. They have pods since last visit, maybe money could have been better spent updating current rooms and definitely leisure area. The raised grill stuck with old hazard tape in pool area trip hazard, in our opinion needs a make over.

Room was hot, and I was asked to leave Restaurant.

I stayed 2 nights in the Newby Bridge Hotel, and decided to go for a meal last night in your pub eating area.
The guy who actually served me at the bar was the same one who said \"sit where you want\" it was 6:30pm.. I decided on what I wanted to eat and was told I had to pay for it at the bar.. fair enough.. The homemade pie and chips arrived, it was nice, and I'd paid for 2 pints but said I'd have my 2nd after I've drunk my first, as it was warm.. After I'd finished my lunch and 1st drink one of the waitresses took my glass and I asked if I'd have to go to the bar or can my 2nd drink be served at the table. She went off to bring my pint.. As soon as she'd brought it she, with her next sentence, said, oh.. this table is booked for 7pm, there was no sign at the table saying this, you need to move, did you book? .. I told her the man said sit anywhere it ok, even though I'd only sat down at 6:38pm..
She sensed I wasn't happy and said I could sit nearer the bar.. \"oh its OK, I'll take it to my room, and go somewhere else tomorrow, So I took my pint to my room.. I was not happy in the slightest..
Am I being unreasonable here? 22 minutes to eat my lunch and drink my 2 pints? Then get thrown out in front of the other customers??
The room (5) had no AC, and no fan, which made sleeping, on a hot night, difficult.
I'm in the area until March 2023 and try to move around the area, but would not stay here again.

Hotel clean, but very dated. The room that we stayed in, the bed was lumpy and uncomfortable. Not wheelchair friendly, only one disabled room. No lift with some rooms having 2 flights of stairs to go up. Our room had steps going down to it. A ramp was provided for the first steps, but there was still a step to go down. Corridors narrow making access with a wheelchair difficult. However, on a positive note the staff were helpful and friendly, and did their best under the limitations.

Booked by mistake on expedia app on the same night as planned stay approx. 19:00hrs, we were trying to book the Swan. Contacted expedia minutes after mistaken booking, hotel would not respond, left a request with expedia, hotel refuse to provide refund, did not stay in hotel. We stayed in the Swan. Receptionist staff at the Swan used to work at Newby Bridge Hotel and said the cleanliness and overall hygiene was awful, never want to stay here. Disappointed they would not provide refund on this occasion and circumstances.

The price was high for the two night stay and didnt i nclude breakfast which was another €12 per person. The property was ok value for money, our room was spacious and light. However, the furniture and fittings were a little worn-down and it was not very clean. The breakfast only offers a Full English (in standard, vegetarian and vegan) plus cereals, toast, jam and fruit. Service at breakfast was friendly but incredibly slow. Staff at the reception was helpful. Currently you are able to book 30 min slots at the pool, during which you have the facilities to yourself/your party. Parking is in front of the hotel and even though it was busy and tight, we were always able to find a spot.

We loved the location to the river. Bus connection and setting. Our only complaint would be the temperature of the room. We were abpve the swimming pool whoch meant the room was heated with pipes innthe floor. With no aircon we asked for a fan but nothing came of that. The window was open 24hours. Then the kitchen fan could be heard constant. Shame as made sleeping uncomfortable. We would return but ask for different room

The rooms have been updated and are very nice. Food from the restaurant was also very nice when having an evening meal.

The pool area hasn’t been updated in what seem like about 15 years and is quite shabby and unappealing. The “gym” is a room with 4 machines one which looked rusty and was being used a towel storage area.

If you take the state of the gym out of the equation it’s a lovely hotel and fit for purpose as a comfortable place to stay while exploring the Lake District. Would stay again if the opportunity presented itself.

Standard of the room (single occupancy) was not very good: awful mattress and pillows, bed reading light below par, I had to put waste paper bin on the window sill in order to keep the sliding window open, no anti-slip floor mat, nor safety grab bar to help me step into the bath to have a shower (totally unacceptable for an octogenarian as I am).

Lovely check in. Very attentive, friendly and knowledgeable staff. Room is well turned out, quirky with nice touches- hooks to hold torpedo light switches. Bathroom is well appointed and very clean. Dinner- very good in a nice dining room. The whole place is attempting high end and nearly getting there. Sadly it still attracts a few less well mannered guests. Also dogs appear welcome everywhere- even in the dining room- just stop it- dogs do not need to be included in everything. Generally though, a lovely clean hotel with good aspirations.

Booked a Superior double with a garden view .... see photo for what we got (appears to be a standard single looking at the photos) with a view of the carpark and the noisy busy road. Bed was so uncomfortable that we left a day early. The tv pointed towards the wardrobe so a great side view !! Breakfast service was terrible - a miserable woman that never smiled once. Toast served without jams both mornings and only provided once when asked. Tried to charge again for breakfast .....
Overall very very disappointed - I will be taking maters further as certainly didn't receive what was advertised and paid for.

Not a great hotel would not recommend

On arrival was checked into the wrong room belonging to someone else of the same surname. Scolded my hand as hot water running from cold tap. No apologies for this. Got moved to out actual room quickly tonight. Room was grubby and did not appear to have been fully cleaned with brown marks under toilet seat. Bar very poor service. Was table service only as per Covid rules but no one came to serve us and instead that continued to serve local regulars at the bar.

Food was good especially breakfast, staff very pleasant and possibly over worked especially bar and catering staff.
Needs lots of fresh paint work on the inside and outside. Would stay again even though it’s a bit far out from Windermere.

Not as pleasant as my last visit 5 years ago

Room 36 where I stayed was very tired and needed a refurbish. For £79 this wasn't the standard I expect. £45 would have been the most I'd pay personally. Food was good but table service not up to scratch.

Infested with midges

This hotel was extremely tired and in desperate need of an update. When we arrived we were instructed not to open any windows due to an infestation of midges, despite the ongoing heatwave. Thus the room was unbearably hot, but also damp and musty smelling. Despite leaving the windows closed our room was full of midges, and when we opened the toilet seat in the bathroom, more midges flew out. There were dead midges squashed onto the wall left uncleaned and more dead midges all over the window sill. Overall it was pretty disgusting. That night my partner and i covered ourselves in insect repellant and managed to only get a couple of bites between us. As for the decor, the room is completely mismatched in furniture, with random paintings hung in illogical places on the walls. We did not eat in the hotel throughout our stay or use the pool facilities so i I can't comment in those, however having spent time in the bar, we found the barman rude and condescending and the drinks phenomenally overpriced. The reception staff were all extremely kind and keen to help, and my partner and I still had a wondeful time in the lake district despite the hotel.

investment required

We stayed here approx 14 years ago, since then it’s been updated but cheaply, cleanliness of the rooms was not the best, old mould in bathrooms and the shower trim was filthy.

Would really benefit from investment.

First we were put in a double room when we booked a family room. The gym was just a treadmill and exercise bike. The jacuzzi was ice cold and then when we wanted a shower before going to bed, the temperature gauge was broken so it was scolding hot. It was either move rooms again at 21.30 or use the shower at the pool. For £200 a night I expect a lot better. Not impressed.

Hotel is completely different than what they put in pictures. It is quite old design and dirty everywhere. Lamp shed in the room was full of dirt. Toilet flush was not working properly. No room cleaning, change of towels or other things for three days.

Staff were pleasant.
Evening meal service was very slow (1 hour from ordering to service), maybe because it was a Saturday?
Food was delicious.
Bathroom was a little grimy and there was an unpleasant smell.
Swimming pool and spa was excellent and very quiet.

Our whole stay was lovely. Truly a dog friendly hotel Staff friendly and helpful especially reception staff. We chose hotel last minute but really glad we went there will be returning. Food in bar good proper pies and salmon was really tasty.

Fresh air break with blue skies and a bit of frost

The trip was totally impromptu to cheer up my poor wife who has struggled over past days with a heavy cold/flu symptoms.
We enjoyed the location at the foot of the lake however not impressed with the rear yard view and the 5.45 delivery vehicle clashing doors.

The site is an imposing house but does show its age and need for tlc typically i sat in the chair in the bar area and on trying to lift chair to get up found that the arm of the chair was completely loose.

Other areas was the Games room where you are unable to use the equipment because of the proximity of the walls limiting the use of the cue provided also the room was in need of attention with open cupboards and access to power and IT connection and poor decor, while the cost of playing pool was a big surprise at just 40P im sure most of us would be willing to pay the norm of £1 if the room was shown a bit of tlc.

Needs to work on a few items.

Generally a pleasant overnight stay but a couple of points caught us out.

It may be the room position close to the leisure centre but despite turning off radiators and opening windows the room (#34) was sweltering to the point where no refreshing deep sleep was had at all.

The other catch was all the table surfaces were tacky, like spilt beer tacky without the smell. Raised issue with desk on way out who said it was new cleaning products, just feels uncomfortable.

Ate in restaurant, Good selection at the. Carvery and prices very reasonable..
Would return to see if both issues are solved. Bar comfortable and homely. Staff very pleasant, took on board the issues at reception on our departure.
