Very clean and smart room. Public areas are all very well kept and very nicely decorated with plenty of character. There is a very smart homely atmosphere. All the staff have been very friendly and professional. There was a maintenance problem, which couldn’t be resolved, but a suitable option was offered immediately - which we were happy with.
Evening meal was very nice - a little pricey, but to be expected at a hotel in the Lake District. The gentleman running the bar (from Glasgow) was particularly chatty and attentive. Reception staff were lovely and the young lady who served us in the restaurant was very polite and professional (young lady with strawberry blonde hair tied back). Thank you - we had a very lovely stay.

Nice stay for a long weekend trip

Overall the stay was nice and location was perfect. Service was ok, reception staff were friendly. One small criticism would be that they are not very accommodating when it comes to making small changes or eliminations to a meal in the restaurant, for example swapping out the chips in a meal to something else (which pretty much all restaurants do!). It would have also been nice to have the option to 'make your own' breakfast. Been to many 4 star hotels that offer this option. Other than that, we had a lovely stay.

Fantastic Little Gem

We booked a romantic weekend stay at Lindeth Howe after we saw the good reviews.
We have been staying in the South Lakes several times a year for over 30 years and used to own a property locally. However, we never got round to booking Lindeth Howe and we have now realised this was a big mistake. From now on this hotel will be our 'go to' hotel in the area.
The location was ideal, not too close to Bowwness which can get noisy and bustly yet close enough to walk in to.
The staff were very professional and very friendly. The hotel is packed with character and is beautifully decorated.
We had an evening meal which was excellent and reasonably priced. The breakfast was also excellent.
There was a man displaying owls in the garden at breakfast time who was also very friendly and keen to show off his very well kept birds.
All round an excellent experience which we will definetly repeat in future.

The hotel was beautiful and the staff were excellent, they couldn't do enough for you. We booked a superior twin room through Expedia but they booked a superior double room, the staff went out of their way to change to a twin room. The room was clean but looked like a DIY job and didn't have a nice view but as Expedia had messed up and booked a double room we put up with it, there was no hot water in the shower but they did offer us a key for another room to shower the next morning

The breakfast was lovely on the first day of our day, unfortunately it went down in quality on the second day when it gets very busy.

An absolutely stunning property with a lot of history. Upon arrival we were greeted with a smile and warm welcome. Shown up to our room personally and given all the information we needed.

It’s located in a quiet, but beautiful area of the lakes. What we loved is you can still walk into Windermere and it was a beautiful walk down from the ferry nab port which is pretty much across the road (5 mins away).

The room was very clean, beautiful and had lovely amenities. It’s always the small touches, like gorgeous toiletries from Temple Spa. A Nespresso coffee machine, and bathrobes.

Breakfast was a great choice of hot and cold; they even had home made granola. and it’s rare that breakfast is included with the room price these days.

Drinks at the bar in the evening were lovely and the real fireplace gave it very cosy vibes.

We loved our stay so much, and we will be returning due to the high standards and kindness of the hotel. We felt really valued and everyone was so kind. Thank you for such a wonderful stay

The property is a hidden gem, we didn’t realise the history until we arrived. Beautifully presented and location is great too. It’s about half hour walk to Bowness, 5 mins in the car.

Staff was polite, attentive and breakfast was great too. Our rooms were at the back with lovely views of the garden and lake.

We travelled as a family of 4. I would definitely recommend and consider staying there again

This was a beautiful hotel and we will definitely stay again.
They catered for me gluten free and vegan.
The decor is quirky and tasteful and the huge bed was so comfortable I didn’t want to leave.
Within walking distance of town but you almost don’t want to leave. Thank you and well done the team.

We had dinner and breakfast at the hotel and they were both great. There were a few cute little towns around the hotel with good food options and scenic views. Our room was 201 and it was quite unusual but a bit dark, not good for putting on makeup. It definitely needs a light over a mirror. The wooden cladding although adding character darkens the room.

Nicely out of the centre of Bowness, but closeby, it has large bedrooms, pleasant bar area, and beautiful gardens. Breakfast and evening meals also very good. Much better value for money than now more pretentious near neighbours

20+ years since I last came to Lindeth and it’s more beautiful than I remembered it to be as they renovated.

Staff were discreet and impeccable. (Except a grumpy receptionist on duty on 12th June).

Rooms were nice if not for the hot weather. Cool air from outside didn’t quite come into the rooms. Wish there was A/C. 😅
One of our rooms was kinda small but had great views. Thank you for making our family of 6 with 2 elderly and 2 children so wonderful and comfortable.

A gem of a place. Tucked away just outside Bowness this hotel is beautiful. Check in was very quick and efficient. We were early but our room was ready which was a real bonus.
We had a family room which was spacious with all the amenities you would expect and don’t always get.
We were at a family get together so didn’t dine at the restaurant in the evening. We had breakfast which was absolutely delicious and kept us going for the rest of the day!
The staff were all really friendly and helpful. A great find.

A very enjoyable stay. We stayed at the hotel several times a number of years ago. Our return visit did not disappoint. The hotel has undergone refurbishment which has been done to a very high standard with wonderfully appointed public areas. ALL of the staff were friendly and helpful and the younger members of staff in the restaurant we’re very efficient and if a minor error (and it was minor) occurred then the more experienced staff were there to correct it. The food was excellent both at breakfast and in the evening. In the current climate of lack of staff throughout the industry Lindeth Howe have recruited really well and their staff deserve great credit. We will certainly return.

The only point I would make is having small, disposable, plastic toiletries seems a bit un-eco friendly. I would happily recommend to anyone looking for a nice place to stay in a stunning location.

Good stay. No housekeeping service supplied unless requested due to staff shortages. Excellent food in the restaurant plus very good breakfast .Hotel decor exquisite. Staff friendly and helpful. Shower malfunction meant unable to switch it off but managed to resolve with help from reception. Room was over the kitchens so had noise from the refrigeration units kicking in at night.
Great location for a stay in the southern lakes.

Room very small for a family room on the top floor painted bright yellow, did ask to be changed but unfortunately no more rooms available, view was awful, breakfast seemed a little chaotic and rooms couldn’t be serviced as short staffed, have been found to Linder howe for over 15 years and always been very special place to us, however is pains me to give it a bad review it has gone a little down hill. Must say though the girl on reception when we arrived was very welcoming.

Extremely disappointing - avoid top floor: Rm 203.

At all costs avoid being lodged in the attic. Room 203 was a disaster. The room was in total contrast to the rest of the hotel and in my opinion it should not be marketed for guest use. Admittedly we stayed during an extremely hot summer period but there was no ACU to combat the fierce temperatures on that loft floor or in the room. We arrived mid-afternoon to find the room had been left shut with both velux style South facing windows closed and their blinds left up… so the room was like a cooker. No breeze available to circulate even with these huge windows open. The windows do open but they hinge flat open and obstruct into what is already a very confined bedroom space. The room itself is in the attic eaves and so the walls form the triangular apex. Consequently, walking around the room is already tight and with windows open it’s a H&S issue if there was a gust of wind as the huge windows would swing and potentially hit anyone passing by. The room itself wasn’t in great shape or as clean either in comparison to the rooms on lower floors.
The coffee machine, one we have at home, managed to leak its water overnight and so soaked a pile of clothes folded next to it on the table. Not good!
Despite complaining there was nothing the staff could do other than supply a large noisy fan to circulate the trapped hot air. Morning views were no good as both windows were full of condensation so we peered through the gap with window open.
Very noisy foreign coach party singing at 3am.

We arrived about 12 and went to reception to see if we could park car - our room was ready so we were able to check in early.
Checking in was quick and receptionist friendly.
We had already booked time for evening meal and breakfast.
Room pleasant, clean although not view over gardens.
Good point we were able to charge our EV.
Staff friendly.
Evening meal good (limited option for vegetarian) although we do eat fish.
Good choice for breakfast.
There was a wedding on Saturday and guest arrived on Friday so it was a bit noisy as children allowed to run around by parents. Staff did apologise for this.
We would stay again.

A great place to stay, a fantastic and characterful building. We were a bit put out by the opt-out 5% service charge. We would have been happy to add that ourselves, however when it is opt-out we felt obliged to pay it.

In addition, a small detail but the extractor fan did not work in the bathroom.

Great hotel, fabulous dining and staff.

Terrific last minute stay in this beautiful location. The staff were excellent and the food was fabulous - highly recommend dining in the hotel (both nights the food was delicious). We had a refurbished room and it was clean, tidy and a good size for a family - good size bathroom too.
Easy to walk straight down to the lake and a beautiful lakeside stroll into Bowness. Far enough away to pop into town on foot whilst avoiding the hustle and bustle. In a good spot for easy trips to other parts of the Lakes. Lovely grounds too - perfect for sitting in on a lovely afternoon. I would highly recommend.

Beatrice Potter themed hotel

Hotel communal areas are amazing - all Beatrice Potter themed and they’ve really put in a lot of effort to make it stand out. The rooms are dated but spacious and clean - bathrooms and carpets appear new, but everything else is quite old. We stayed in room 201 and had to request a new hair dryer; the shower was very weak; they had 2 irons and boards as 1 of them was broken but hadn’t been removed (fixed to the wall); and all the furniture was old and in need of a good clean (as were the windows!). Nice view from the room and brilliant large velux window which was great for fresh air. No noise from other rooms and nice and close to reception. Breakfast was lovely, nice portions and they were accommodating to change of food requests. We weren’t able to eat dinner as the restaurant was booked out for event all 3 of the nights we stayed! Bar was very well stocked and bar staff were attentive - even made cocktails by request which weren’t on the menu. No information given on check in about local amenities, hotel layout, taxis - or anything really! Hotel appeared understaffed and every day we were there is was the exact same staff working and we wondered when they slept!

Restaurant staff was really welcoming and courteous. Hotel is located nicely about 20mins walk from the bowness pier so no need to take the car out once parked, you can just walk to the lake. Perfect retreat

Just returned from a four night break at Lindeth Howe perfect hotel in a quiet spot all the staff were polite and friendly, staying in a standard double it was spacious and clean. There was a good choice for breakfast and certainly have no complaints. I would have no problem in highly recommending this hotel as a place to stay

Sorry to hear the lovely reception lady is retiring, she has always been so welcoming, friendly we have stayed at Lindeth for many years.
It’s a lovely hotel in beautiful gardens, the rooms where clean.

Overall a lovely property. The communal areas are great - great decor and comfortable seating. The bedroom we were in (108) was a family room and it was very tired. The decor was very dated and mismatched and there wasn’t enough room to be able to open the wardrobe properly. It was however very clean and the beds were comfortable. The price of the room was nevertheless extremely expensive for what you get.

Aside from that the food was excellent and the staff were polite and pleasant.

I was disappointed that when we checked out nobody asked how our stay was and we were just presented with the bill. This was after I had provided feedback via Expedia to the hotel about the room and no one spoke to us about it or seemed to care about our stay. If someone had checked in with us it would have made all the difference.

Lovely stay with a really nice meal on our first night . All the staff were very helpful and the location is lovely, it was nice to see a wedding there as well and the world returning somewhat to normal

Lindeth Howe was an amazing hotel, with beautiful gardens and very quiet and peaceful the food was lovely and most of the staff were friendly, there were a few exceptions of bar staff not very friendly and no table service, and the young male waiters in the restaurant needing a lot more training in the job and people skills definately.

A wonderful hotel

We as a family had an amazing two nights stay at Lindeth Howe Hotel. Very convenient location, easy walking distance from the main hub of Windermere, yet very tranquil. Sprawling gardens, wonderful food and lovely decor, friendly staff. Can’t find a fault !! Would rate it highly.

Property was ok nothing much actually.
I was disappointed that there was a shower over the bath tub and there was no handle bar support to get in and out as it is pretty dangerous & difficult to do so . I have bad knees but even for a normal person it should be put in place .
Did mention it to the lady at the reception and I wonder if it went any further?

This was the best stay we’ve ever had, from the warm greeting to the beautiful interior design. Room was huge with everything we wanted , food was definitely worth every penny . Service is as good as any 5 star we’ve stayed in before. The views and surrounding area is stunning Beatrix potter would be very proud of her former home .

From the first foot through the door there was a feeling of quality and the look of cleanliness. Whoever is responsible for staff recruitment is doing an excellent job. Every employee we encountered was very pleasant, helpful and friendly without crossing over the intrusive line. The room in which we stayed ad didn't have one of the amazing views which were available at the front of the hotel but then again we didn't pay for the view, so it didn't detract from our stay at all. The room was bright, and large enough to easily accommodate a couple of fireside chairs, ideal for snuggling down with a good book. The dining room was oozing style and quality with great view over the garden and beyond. The quality of the food was top notch. As you may detect we rate this hotel very highly. We've stayed in quite a few hotels over the past 12 months, or so. Many were very good but we would place Lindeth Howe Hotel in the excellent bracket

A stunningly beautiful building once a home of the Potter family. Very tasteful decor and lovely comfortable bedrooms. We stayed in a double superior which we would recommend. Fabulous breakfast choices and great customer service. The surrounding grounds are serene and a great place to sit and take in the natural settings. This hotel is very vigilant in terms of CV19 with all safe and secure measures in place.

Great location & value, though room disappointing

Great location, good value for money and attentive service. However, at the end of a busy week at work I was looking forward to a long relaxing soak in the bath but our ground-floor room had an adapted wet-room only - the room was also set below a car park, therefore no views, even of the gardens - disappointing.
