We absolutely love The Belsfield, it has a special place in our heart and memories.
We have been lucky enough to stay there for the last few years and even have our favourite room.
From the staff , the service and location, it is absolutely perfect. My personal /family life has been hard with parents health the last few years, so when we are able to we go. It is my safe haven and would visit there more if I could. Thank you to all the staff at The Belsfield Hotel

Had an ok stay but being totally honest we were expecting far better!! Room had a cheap make over pretty bodged to be frank , we stayed in a garden room which on the outside was pretty scruffy, this hotel top cleans areas on show this lets the hotel down. Breakfast was cold and dry been left out on heat for far too long. Being charged £30 when we left for parking was a huge shock and pretty greedy of the hotel to charge this In my view. When you pay a handsome price to stay in a nice hotel being charged this for parking is pretty desperate. This would result in us thinking twice to book again. Windows in the restaurant desperately need a good clean! They were filthy dirty. Lovely grounds and but again only kept tidy where on show areas you cannot see full of weeds. I just feel everything in this hotel need far greater attention to detail. Reception staff upon arrival (apart from one…) quite dismissive and borderline rude, upon leaving couldn’t be bothered. All in all we expected far better, Come on Belsfield you should do far better on the detail, management should walk the floor and see for themselves. Sorry, but in today’s hospitality sector challenging times it’s the small things that count and small things that matter most, there’s no excuses.

The hotel itself is really good, staff are friendly, we had Diego who was really helpful on check in.

The room we stayed in was okay, disappointed with the mold on the bath seal, the shower head was also mouldy and the light was flicking in the living room.

The view was good, we looked over the lakes and also the building site where they are building a new pool. Cant be helped but wasnt mentioned when booking

We payed a bit extra for the room, dont think I would do it again.

In general this was a great hotel in a really good location. The room was in good condition and the breakfast was great.

There were some noticeable areas within the hotel which good do with some further maintenance effort. For example unpainted areas of the outdoor seating at the front of the hotel and the patio/garden area immediately outside our room. Improving these finishes with a little extra effort would really take the hotel up a level.

Fantastic location, staff were extremely friendly and helpful upon checking in. We had a cosy sea view room which was clean. Bathroom was clean, however was really small. Lots of choices for breakfast, from a full English, fruit, cereal and pastries. Bar area was relaxing. It is only card payments when buying drinks from the bar.

It was great to see this grand hotel being invested in. The outside looks amazing and our room 38 (double lake view) had just been refurbished and was tastefully decorated with just the best views of the lake and pier. All the staff we encountered from Persia at check in, to Joy in the restaurant & Nick & Moses in the bar were warm and friendly.

Not all was perfect unfortunately and the Belsfield is still “work in progress”.
On checking in we were told that room service was “on request” (we requested it for our 3 night stay) but this surely should be standard at a 4* hotel.

There was also a sign in the room that stated no bottled water is provided unless specifically required and then a visit to reception would be needed. Again, a surprise omission which along with the need to request the room service left us feeling just minutes from arriving that the Belsfield aim wasn’t to do everything possible to ensure we enjoyed our stay.

Breakfast, was a buffet and no additional orders such as an omelette was available. All the breakfast offerings to include tea & coffee was crammed into a small corner of what was a large room making for a rather chaotic experience. A small à la carte option of omelette’s, poached eggs, eggs Benedict etc would have been welcomed and would also have taken a little pressure away from the buffet.

Despite these aspects, we had a lovely time and would return again knowing some issues will be addressed.

We loved everything about The Belsfield Hotel. We stayed there a few years ago and it was beautiful, but since it has new owners, the staff are happier, the hotel is continually being updated restoring it to it's former glory. Our room was perfect, the breakfast was incredible and the staff couldn't have been nicer with us. We will be returning again later in the year, before we get married there. It's a gorgeous, stunning hotel.

Beyond disappointed. My original room was very dirty and the walls were all scuffed up. I complained and a nice gentlemen gave me 10% for one night and moved me to a “renovated” room. The hotel needs a ton of upgrades and cleaning. It is very dated and also under renovation. They are also severely understaffed and while the staff were all nice, their stress could be felt from not having enough help. They also do not even provide daily housekeeping unless you ask. Not to mention they only provide waters if asked. Be sure to bring conditioner because they dont provide that either. Definitely not a 4 star hotel!

Lovely hotel brilliantly situated in Bodensee. On a hill with views down the lake.
Getting to the Lake steamers is just a walk down the lawn
The staff are excellent friendly and helpful
Rooms are spacious.
Any negatives.
The menu in the Bistro was a bit limited and breakfast range could have been more imaginative eg. fruit salad instead of a bowl of chopped melon
A bit surprised to be charged £15 a night for parking. If I’m paying £200 a night B&B I would expect parking to be included!
A few more comfortable chairs to sit on on the lawn would have been appreciated.

Hotel is in an ideal position overlooking the lake. Unfortunately our garden view room on the bottom floor was overlooking a large bush so no view of the garden or lake although it did have a patio door with table and chairs on a small shared patio. Unfortunately they are still in the process of renovating the hotel so we had a strong smell of paint in our room as it was just painted 2 days before we arrived which was unpleasant. The biggest disappointment was no spa or swimming facilities yet.
We were told it would be at least another 2 years before they are built. All in all lovely hotel, staff were amazing, nice breakfast but we would not be returning because of there being no spa facilities.

Ask for a room away from the conference facilities, our room was deafeningly loud until 11. Be aware there is an additional charge for parking on the hotel property of £15 per day in addition to room cost. Additional £20 per hour to check out late. No cleaning of the room each day unless you request it. Generally felt over priced for the experience given there are no spa facilities and everything is an additional cost.

Our first stay at The Belsfield, and a delightful experience.

Our room was spacious, well appointed, with a delightful view of Windermere. We appreciated the bathroom, with heated floor, large bath and separate shower.

The grounds are well-maintained, featuring an attractive shrubbery and an interesting variety of trees and wildlife.

Breakfast was excellent and our evening meal was first-rate, beautifully presented and reasonably priced.

The exceptional feature of this hotel, is its staff. Every member of staff we met was courteous and obliging and we will certainly be making a return visit.

Generally very good with nice room, bar area, restaurant and gardens. Staff very helpful particularly Ashley on Reception and Joy in the restaurant. Breakfast first class. Fantastic views of the lake from the hotel.
My only concern with dining was the limited vegetarian options for my partner in the restaurant.
The other disappointment was being charged £15 per day for parking when at the time of booking the parking was supposed to be included. As I had booked through Hotels. com I was informed nothing could be done and I had to pay the cost. It was an unfortunate end to a wonderful stay.

We were only advised of the ongoing construction project after paying for the booking. Checking in was very poor and we had a long wait for the room to be ready. We were then advised the day after checking in that the room would only be made up during our stay upon request each day. As the room had virtually no facilities in terms of water, coffee, tea etc., the need to get the room made up was important. The breakfast room coffee machine was out of action for several days so were reduced to luke warm coffee from an urn, likely made a long time prior to the breakfast room opening.
If we had booked a basic room we might have understood some of the issues but we had booked a premier room that we were advised by several staff was one of the best rooms in the hotel and had previously been used by Prince Charles!
When checking out we were then advised of a daily guest parking fee for using the guest only parking!
The hotel is very tired and in desperate need of the refurbishment project underway. Understandable but to advise guests of this after they have paid for the booking is simply not good practice.
Wait until the refurbishment project is complete before making a booking.

Our first visit to the property for a number of years. We use to stay here quite frequently under the Laura Ashley umbrella.

We were very lucky to be upgraded prior to our visit, I received a call a couple of days before our visit. However, we were told about the ground works to the garden over looking Lake Windermere. The check isn’t wasn’t the best, computer screen in the way of the receptionist, management tell staffing to stop cleaning the hotel lobby.

The bar has been rebranded, we decided to opt to visit a local bar/pub instead of having a drink in the hotel.

The room was very warm, but had a comfy bed and a large Tv. It was disappointing to see the ground works from our lake view room. I’m a little surprised this wasn’t mentioned on the call prior to our visit or on check in.

There was a selection of hot breakfast options, pastries, cereal with a pre made coffee urn or a coffee machine. Which felt a little back of house. We use to quite enjoy the breakfast menu offered to order from our previous stays.

All in all, I was a bit taken away from what is such a special hotel for myself and wife. Hopefully the new management company will keep pushing the property forward but it’s definitely lost some of its charm from the Laura Ashley Belsfield we know and loved.

Lovely stay at Belsfield. Beautiful grounds, gardens well maintained & located right next on the lake with boat services & bus services nearby. This is the first time we refused to bring the car & didn’t miss it at all.
The hotel was very peaceful, staff all great. Shout to Diego for being super helpful with several requests we had. Alina provided excellent restaurant service alongside her Manager.
Food was of a good quality with breakfast offering adequate choice and everything was efficiently cleared away as soon as you finished eating.
Only improvement I’d suggest is housekeeping attend each day, it seemed to be every other day & we found ourselves asking for toilet paper in reception, not ideal!
We will be back to stay though and thank you!

Obviously, there is some works going on so improvements are being made, but for example our room, it had a chipped sink and bedside cabinets. The outside seating could be improved, especially how nice an outside area it is. The location and views were excellent though and the staff very nice and helpful. Overall, I would stay again, also knowing there is going to be a swimming pool is an attractive addition. Parking was also a big plus in this location

Lovely hotel, excellent location and great views. Staff really friendly. Large room which was really nice. Didnt eat in the hotel in the evening but good range of hot and cold food at breakfast. Plenty of parking which is a massive plus in the location but there is a small charge.

Didnt affect us but there is only one small lift so could impact you if you dont want to use the stairs.

Excellent hotel. The staff were very friendly and helpful, the reception, bar and restaurant were pleasant places to sit eat, drink and relax. Our room was number 20 on the first floor. It was advertised as room with a view of the lake. The view was a bit obstructed, because unfortunately part of our view was the excavation for the new extension, presently being added to the rear of the hotel. Otherwise we had a pleasant 2 night stay and will probably book again, after the extension is complete.

Overall, I had a good stay. The room was clean and comfortable, the staff were friendly and helpful, and breakfast was good with decent variety. The hotel itself is well maintained and worth staying at.

I would recommend booking directly with the hotel rather than through Hotels.com. I don't have price comparison now.

Also, parking is free if you book directly, whereas I booked via Hotels.com and had to pay £15 per night for car parking, which I only found out after booking.

The breakfast and dinners were excellent, staff were friendly and available at all times , especially Joy and Migel . The room was dated but clean . There is building work and decoration going on it will be amazing with a pool and spa in the future.

Lovely hotel overlooking the Marina. Very close to the town with a variety of different and excellent restaurants. The staff were very friendly and efficient.

We came to celebrate a birthday and the view of the lake walking in was incredible and truly breathtaking. What a welcome. We had an incident the first morning which we reported to the staff, and Sarah the Manager was brilliant the way she handled it, couldn’t have asked for more. Then we absolutely must give a shout out to Ian, Nick, Charlie, and Miguel who were just incredible throughout our stay and really made us want to stay longer despite the workman around. They were so welcoming and went above and beyond for us. Walking distance from the lakes and shops (literally 3minutes), stunning views, restaurants and cafes everywhere, room service was great, dinner at the restaurant was amazing (burgers and Caesar salad). We’d definitely return and wish the new owner was keeping even just a couple of the dog friendly rooms - please!!
