The only issue we had was our room was right by the main entrance and it was so loud of a morning and night, people smoking and chatting right outside the window, Room 1. Loved everything else, just a shame we had that room.

The hotel was beautiful and all the wonderful festive decorations made it feel very special.
Bar staff were wonderful. I loved sipping my gin by the warm crackling fire place.
The breakfast room was wonderful with lovely views of the snowy mountain tops. Great selection available for breakfast. My Eggs Royal were lovely, thank you for our amazing stay! We were well looked after. Mrs & Mr I. A. Gallaghers x

We stayed at hotel for 2nights. We were put in a pet friendly room which I specifically emailed about before arrival. As soon as you opened the door you could smell a dog smell in the room (not nice). Spoke with reception advised no rooms of same costing and could move next day. As this was a “late booking” that’s only room they could give us. I checked online for that particular night and both hotels own site and other partner sites showed availability for that day in same room. Moved rooms following day to costing of £10 as chose better room.
Beds very comfortable. Room clean and tidy. Does get warm at night even with radiators off. 1 issue no toilet brush in bathroom.
Pool was ok, sauna fine not much seating but had it to ourselves.
Breakfast - hash brown well over cooked, Cumberland sausage wasn’t like one we’ve had before and was tasteless. The fried egg was VERY fried on one side. Black pudding not great. Would’ve preferred maple syrup in separate jug so you could put own amount on rather than it put on for you, bacon wasn’t great either.
Had to ask how breakfast worked as this wasn’t explained.
Staff at breakfast time very pleasant and attentive although took wee while to be seated and noticed a lot of tables not cleared when people had left.
Aesthetically the hotel is very nice as lounges decorated well.
There is a steepish hill to the hotel however good for transport as bus stop at very bottom of main road and you can walk to either village.

The hotel was very close to Windermere lake and very central to see the whole of the Lake District, which was my plan. The staff, especially the breakfast staff, were so friendly and helpful and nothing was too much trouble. The hotel doesnt have a lift which was a shame and my room was up 2 flights of stairs which was difficult for me as i have bad knees. Parking was good though the spaces in additional parking are a bit tricky to manoeuvre, but possible. The breakfast was superb, i liked that it is brought to your table so there's limited waste too. You only order what you want. My room was very clean.

Nice hotel but but service is inflexible, often slow and too many rules. Food is average with some portions small. Staff often disorganised and chaotic processes leading to slow and poor service. Could not check even at check in time. Constant staff moaning of being busy or short staffed. Bed very comfortable but issues with shower pressure and drainage. Overall prob not worth the price.

What an absolute gem of a place

I stayed at the Hillthwaite at the end of my tour of Scotland. The luxury feel was throughout the hotel. The room was small but very comfortable and perfect for my needs. The staff - particularly the dinner and breakfast waiting staff - were amazing. The whole place was very well run. The view from the dinning room was breathtaking too.

Very comfortable stay. We booked a premier room and we were pleased with the room, furnishing and facilities. Our far reaching view of mountains, hills and Windermere Lake were lovely but we did feel rather on show to anyone sitting in the conservatory and the hotel car park. Nets/voiles/blinds would given us the option to dress and undress more privately.
The restaurant was good. Great evening meal, pricy for what it was but convenient and good quality. Excellent breakfast and the service from our female waitress both in the evening and again at breakfast was friendly, efficient and pleasant.

This hotel is perfect for a relaxing easy stay in The Lake District, England. I recommend to everyone. There no lifts but rooms on Ground and 2nd floor are manageable. Third floor rooms have beautiful views. The staff is lovely and the food is delicious!

The hotel is in an excellent position with views over lake Windermere, a very warm and cosy feel to it, they light the log burner in the lounges late afternoon/early evening, which is nice to sit by and have a drink. It's about a 20 minute walk into Windermere town and 10-15 minutes walk into Bowness, both towns are very nice.
The staff were excellent from arriving at the reception where we were welcomed and a bonus that our room was ready (2.30pm) to enable us check in early.
The rest of the staff were also efficient, very welcoming and friendly, I have to make a special mention to the two sisters (Louise & Claire) who were wonderful in the restaurant, they were so attentive and polite, an asset to the hotel team.
The food was fantastic, we had an evening meal which was delicious and breakfast on both mornings which was wonderful too and very filling, especially the full Cumbrian breakfast.
The room (19) was very pleasant and immaculate, the only negative I would mention was that we could here the fire door in the corridor banging in the morning from around 7am.
The pool was very small but this was fine for a little swim to stretch off after being out all day and the sauna was great to relax in.
There is parking right outside the hotel and we didn't really use the car after arriving as everything local was walkable.
We will definitely return to this lovely hotel.

Hotel was nice although the pool was cold and the steam room wasn't working. My room was ground floor and as a solo female traveller, I would've preferred a room on 1st floor or above but it was clean and an ok size for one person. Food was great, very good selection for breakfast and all cooked fresh. Good, walkable distance from town with good public transport links to other areas.

We were thrilled with our choice of Hillthwaite. It has a central location near to both Windermere and Bowness yet high enough on a hill to have views of Lake Windermere from rooms and public spaces. The hotel is beautifully organized with several public lounges: sun room, library, bar/lounge and restaurant–all of which feature Lake views, as well as outdoor terraces. We had a view of the Lake from our large \"occasion\" room. The room was lovely with chairs and a table to take in the view. The bathroom had a tub and a separate shower–great pressure and temperatures and good lighting. We ate two dinners and breakfasts plus coffees and beverages at the hotel. The staff was attentive and professional. The meal times were organized to not overwhelm the kitchen: the food was timely and delicious. After a series of BnBs, we were looking for a resort/spa hotel and the Hillthwaite surpassed our expectations. Highly recommend the hotel and also a visit to Blackwell, a 1908 Arts and Crafts house outside of Bowness.

the hotel was spotlessly clean and welcoming when we arrived. Although at the top of a steep hill and hotel has no lift bear that in mind for those who have any walking difficulties. Food was good but a tad too expensive ie £9 for a plate of soup! bed was very comfortable and warm, good sound proofing with adequate clothes space for a few days.

We had a fabulous relaxing stay at The Hillthwaite Hotel..
The room was comfortable & well decorated ( occasion room with veiw towards the lake) although a little on the smaller size.. and only a 5ft bed.
The staff made us feel so welcome .. they are all so attentive & polite ( including the hotel manager) .. and service was smooth and organised .. we thought the option to pre order dinner was an excellent idea and meant our food was served without any delays.. in the well apointed dining area's ( with lovely veiws)
We enjoyed the use of the pool & sauna each day of our 3 night stay

I booked this hotel last minute for a 3 night stay with my partner and our 2 yr old dog Murphy . We found the staff extremely helpful from the moment we arrived our dog was very spoilt and was made to feel very welcome. The room was basic but very comfortable and clean we only booked a classic room so we were more than happy . The bed was large and very comfortable. The breakfast and evening meal were lovely and the staff in the restaurant were very obliging. I wouldn't hesitate booking this hotel again if I was in the area . The hotel is approx a 15 minute walk from the shops but I enjoyed the walk into the town it was nice to return to the tranquillity of the hotel as the town was quite busy due to the bank holiday. A perfect location and very pleasant stay thankyou to all the lovely staff especially the lovely lady on the reception desk!

Our room looked onto another building at the side, which wasnt great, but we spent so liitle time there it didnt really matter. The only downside we found, was the evening meal was pricey for what we got. It was tasty, but could have had more vegetables with it.

Had a lovely weekend break. This hotel is beautiful. Our room was very comfortable, clean and easy to relax in. The cleanliness was impeccable, and the towels are to die for.
We used the pool and sauna both days and had it to ourselves, more out of luck than planning.
We ate at the restaurant on our second night. The food was delicious. As was breakfast, so much choice and good quality produce.
The lounge areas are very nice to sit in and enjoy the views and the bar.
The best thing about this place, and what will have us returning, is the staff. For check in to check out they were attentive without being intrusive. The waiting staff especially were fabulous, Julian is an absolute pleasure and made the whole experience so much better. Really can’t recommended this hotel enough.

Lovely 2 night stay

Had a lovely 2 night stay in a beautiful room overlooking the Langdales. Breakfast was delicious with a good selection of different meals and the staff were incredibly friendly, knowledgable and welcoming. Our evening meal was even more delicious and one of the best meals I’ve had in a while! I couldn’t recommend this hotel any more! Short walk into Bowness and a short drive into Windermere also.

Decent stay at the hotel. Dogs in the dining area which can be unpleasant to some residents (with food chucked on the floor).
During our stay, our breakfast order was not correct on several occasions with long waiting times for extra toasts. Nevertheless, the views are stunning and totally worth it. The reception/front desk is friendly and helpful with any queries however, some residents are not so forthcoming with politeness.

Overall it was a nice hotel and the breakfast was very good. Their restaurant sadly couldn’t accommodate us even though we were residents, after a long drive I didn’t really want to dine elsewhere but when we returned the parking was completely full. It was slightly let down by a non working shower in the room which couldn’t be fixed until the next day. The night staff I thought were a little brusque in their response and there was no recompense offered for the inconvenience.

Stopped off n our way to Birmingham for business. It was bank holiday weekend so struggled to get accommodation. This hotel is at the top of a hill with awkward entrance for a big car and parking is limited. Staff were pleasant but obviously new so struggling a bit. I didn't like having to pre order dinner by 5pm or being unable to charge anything to the room. Felt this was more a glorified B&B trying to do meals rather than a hotel.

Great stay

Really nice and friendly hotel in a good location to both Bowness and Windermere towns .

The breakfast was great and staff were super friendly

Very modern hotel, this was view from room 27 (classic room)
Short walk -downhill into town where there are some lovely pubs to eat & drink in, we didn’t eat in hotel so can’t comment on evening meals, breakfast was very nice with a lot to choose from.

It is a lovely hotel great location very clean and the staff were very friendly and made you feel very welcome the bar staff went out there way to accommodate your needs and was very chatty , breakfast was superb Lots to choose from and all the waiters & waitresses were lovely , we had a meal at the hotel on the last night and the food was sensational we all said it was the best food we had ever eaten and wished we had eaten every night of our stay , the rooms was spacious and very clean and we had a king size bed that was huge , lovely views of lake Windermere and the mountains and had a beautiful garden with seating all around would definitely stay here again in fact we are looking at coming back next year

Definitely recommend

Great place. Staff were very attentive, and the hotel worked hard to ensure that it was Covid secure. We enjoyed an afternoon tea when we arrived, which was fantastic. We also enjoyed a meal in the hotel, but it was a shame that the choice was limited to 2/3 course menu. The food was delicious though. Amazing elevated views from the restaurant, lounge, and conservatory.

Small Room but excellent food

Just a little disappointed with the size of the room their smallest rooms are described as cosy - so we chose the next size up called classic We wished we had chosen the Classic Plus as our room number 21 was very small.
We tried to upgrade but were told they were full. However the the food in the hotel was excellent and the staff were friendly. All areas were \"covid\" safe The elevated position of the hotel gives amazing views.
