The menu was good, but not exceptional. The staff were very helpful, but we did not realise that the hotel was going to be full of dogs. The were seven tables in the dining area and six had dogs at them. The carpets smelled of stale dog in all their form. The carpets were stained especially in the bedroom that we occupied.

I was very disappointed with my stay at this hotel. Even worse, the bathtub was completely clogged. When I first entered the bathroom, it hadn’t even been cleaned properly and was full of soap scum. I had to call someone to clean it, and surprisingly, there was not even a single word of apology. After the so-called cleaning, the bathtub was still not usable. Overall, the hotel feels old and poorly maintained. Honestly, they really need a full renovation. The breakfast was not good - the taste is below expectations. Furthermore, just have a look at the photo taken, the pillow towel had holes in it…

Cute little place near lake

Cute little place. A busy restaurant is attached and parking is pretty tight. You have to wait until the parking lot opens up at the end of the night to move your car into it. Otherwise some street parking available.
We were on the third floor so had to hit the maze of stairs to get to the top but it wasn't too bad.
Sits right in town which is really cute. Eateries are open pretty late if you look around.

Such a lovely place to rest our head for the evening. Walking distance to the train station where we met our tour guide for the tour of Hilltop (Beatrix Potter’s house). The breakfast was absolutely delish! Staff was so friendly! Our room was spacious and so very clean. Also, our bed was quite comfortable. My daughter and I loved this place.

The property was lovely. Wasn’t keen on check in, no clear indication on where to go / what to do and was standing around puzzled with no staff in sight for a brief time.
Bed and pillows was very uncomfy. Black marks on pillow case and dog biscuits on bedroom floor.

The staff were really friendly during our stay, the breakfast was fantastic and service was great. We were so disappointed to discover on the last day that there was another side to the breakfast menu which we hadn't turned over! We will have to return and sample the breakfast pancakes! :)

Refined Hotel High Quality Food and Service

The staff service at the Lamplighter is superb from reception to restaurant service. The hotel is far from the usual style with a beautiful building in a great location at the top end of Windemere's high street. We dined at the hotel and the food was lovely, well priced and the staff very attentive. Breakfast was superb with lots of choice and the quality equal to the best we have had on our 4 week holiday so far.

Beautiful Hotel

The hotel is very good, food excellent and the staff are so helpful, only problem we had was on arrival, we was allocated room 4 which although was very nice the floor was sloping which made my wife feel nausea. But after a while all seemed ok.
Would definitely stay again.

We had a great stay over a weekend here as a family. 2 adults a 2 year old and our dog (he's big). We had king bed, the room was clean, comfy and nice bathroom, just what we needed. We chose to eat in the restaurant one night the food was great and the breakfast which was included was amazing, so many options. They were lovely hosts and great family friendly stay and really dog friendly. We would definitely stay again.

The restaurant is excellent with great food and a relaxing atmosphere. Breakfast was equally good. Room was spotless with plenty of hot water and strong shower. All the usual extras with tea and a coffee machine and a couple of decent chairs to sit in. Bed equally comfortable. A pleasant place to stay and relax. Recommend a trip to Holehird Gardens which is just up the road 🙂

A good place to stay

Very pleasant couple of days at the hotel. The room was warm and very clean. The food for the first night meal was excellent. We had the rump of lamb which was tender, pink and delicious although, personally I would have appreciated some green vegetables with it rather than mashed potato and mashed swede, which were too similar in taste and texture. The breakfast was good with plenty of choice. All in all a good place to say.

Pleasant stay. Clean rooms that were serviced everyday. Staff helpful. A couple of the rooms are very noisy, if the window is open, with early morning traffic. 6am. Lorry's emptying bins full of glass etc. But rooms on the other side would be fine. I'd stay there again but choose your room.

Good breakfast but not worth the money

During the check-in process we were offered to dine in and that the table would be reserved, however, we decided to eat out so declined the offer. Later, we changed our mind after couple hours so we called the hotel restaurant but was told the place was fully booked and the next available would be at 8:30pm. Upon returning to the hotel around that time, the restaurant was half empty.

The standup shower stall had blackened spots up and down the tile wall between the grooves, mold. The room was extremely tight nowhere to put two carry on suitcases.

Sleepless and cold night

We booked a one night stay at The Lamplighter. We arrived early evening and the building looked well presented and well lit, so easy to find.
The staff were welcoming and check in was organised and straight forward. We took our bags up to the room. The room was clean, tidy and appeared to meet our needs. We then left to go to the high street for something to eat.
On returning to our room, we found it was really cold. The radiator was barely on and the temperature dial would not work on the radiator. When closing the blinds i noticed that there was a substantial draft coming from the windows.
We noticed that the duvet and pillows were very thin so didnt really help keep warm or comfy.
The bed was really uncomfortable. We found it was hard and struggled to get comfortable enough to have a restful nights sleep.
The bathroom was really cold so was really off putting to use the shower facilities, therefore we opted to just get dressed and shower at our next destination.
Breakfast was well presented, tasty and there was plenty of choice. The only thing i could complain about was that a member of staff attended the table to ask if we were still eating, baring in mind staff had just seen me take a bite of toast. Staff then preceeded to ask if they could clear the plates whilst i was still eating. I find this the height of bad manners and really bad customer service.
I did speak with staff on checking out about the issues re the room being cold and uncomfortable but to no avail.

Great Week with dogs in September

Travelled with my wife and two lurcher dogs, excellent stay from check in to check out, room good, lots of space and biggest bathroom ever, ate in the lounge area for breakfast and dinner with dogs alongside us, breakfast great and quality of produce excellent, dinners very filling and one of the best cheeseboards (to my taste). Clean rooms, comfortable and very dog friendly, would recommend no problem and would look to visit again.

Nice relaxing stay.

Overall a nice stay in a welcoming hotel. We travelled by train so no car needed. The staff looked after our bags as we arrived early and went for a walk before checking in.
Room spacious king sized bed, but sparse for storing clothing. Shower room had a disconcerting hole behind the toilet waste pipe and the floor sloped in a worrying angle. (Room 4 Bassenthwaite)
Had a fine evening meal and breakfast. Enjoyable but would avoid room 4 next time.

The customer service at the hotel was brilliant, the staff were incredibly polite and helpful and assisted wherever they could. The food was of an extremely high quality, very tasty, good size portions but not too filling. The room was a great size and very comfortable. The bed was extremely comfortable. Would definitely recommend.

The Lamplighter is in a really good position right at the top of the high street within walking distance of all of the shops and restaurants, the breakfasts were excellent and the wait staff polite and friendly - however a couple of things detracted from our stay
The Lamplighter is primarily a restaurant, it is mentioned in the name I know, but be aware, it means that all of the parking outside of the hotel is always full and there is no other on street parking locally. The hotel smells of cooked fish all of the time!
The advertised bar is not available, as all of the ground floor is taken up with restaurant tables, you can only buy a drink if you have a table, in the evening you cant get a table as the resaurant is always full so there is no option of having a drink back at the hotel at night. Despite 100's of people using the hotel daily, they are still using Covid as an excuse not to service the rooms, no cleaning, no bins emptied, no replacing of tea or coffee its was embarrasing having to walk through a crowded restaurant to beg for a loo roll - the whole point of booking a hotel is to get some kind of service and there was none, we might as well have gone self catering somewhere else and had more room, and as I say bizarre as there are people in and out of the hotel constantly, maskless so I dont know why they can't clean the rooms. Upon checkout the manager charged our card again, despite me insisting we had already paid, yet more faff having to get a refund!

Fairly basic accommodation but good location, very friendly and helpful staff.

Only had breakfast there but very enjoyable.

Seemed popular with outside diners so recommend booking a table for dinner if you want to eat there.

Couple of areas for suggested improvement in the room (we were in room 2).
- wardrobe in room but no shelving unit for clothes, which was problematic;
- similarly a small cabinet in the bathroom for toiletries would also have helped;
- one blackout blind was not wide enough to fill the whole window, so had a continual stream of light during the night;
- the lock in the room door is very close to the door frame and we constantly scraped knuckles/rings against the door frame.

Would consider staying again if in the area.

All ok bed a little hard, bathroom a bit small but that’s my personal choice.
Loved the room (3) with big windows over looking Windermere town centre.
Could have done with a couple of chairs to sit & watch out of window. I’m sure they would have provided one if I had asked.
