What wonderful hosts and fantastic B&B! Rich and team were super friendly, helpful and attentive hosts: nothing was too much trouble.

The house is tastefully decorated and immaculate throughout - you can see the care and attention that the owners have put into it! The location is great and parking is available.

The breakfast is fantastic, with a help yourself buffet of fresh fruit, yoghurt and cereals but also the choice of a range of lovely hot, freshly made dishes.

Highly recommended and we would very happily stay again!

The location was the reason for choosing this property. It’s a 15 minute walk to where we hired a motorboat. There are only 3 car park spaces at the hotel itself for guests. If they’re full, you have to park across the road by the glass bus stop. I managed to park at the hotel, but someone blocked me in. Luckily, I’m nimble and could manoeuvre to leave the hotel.

The breakfast options were good, with lots to choose from. I ordered a full English, which is my go-to breakfast. Unfortunately, the bacon was overly salty (inedible to eat) and there was no black pudding. Otherwise, cooked well.

The room itself (king room - number 11) at first glance looked quite posh and inviting. Unfortunately, it went downhill from here. The bathroom was spacious, but the shower was difficult to use to get to the correct setting; and turning it off without having very hot water splashing everywhere. The top of the bed was covered with cushions. Unnecessary and in the way! I had an awful shock once I looked at the pillows and removed the duvet cover!! HAIRS EVERYWHERE!! I felt sick. As I pulled down the duvet, more and more hairs were found - on both sides of the bed. Also, a dead fly on the floor and another flying around. I removed the hairs and just couldn’t relax. It was disgusting. I don’t ever complain (I shy away from confrontation and people trying to fob me off, hence this review). I hope the hotel improve their hygiene standards as it could be a gem. So disappointed.

The location is great, halfway between Windermere railway station and Bowness pier. The room is very big, perfectly clean and comfortable. Even though we were on the ground floor, we had a very nice view of greenery. The bathroom is also very big and clean.

The owner is very nice and keen on making guests feel at home. We had excellent communication with him before and during our stay.

Perhaps the best thing about the hotel is the breakfast. There is a big array of options, everything is tasty, excellently cooked and comes in generous portions.

We had a great stay, everything went perfectly. We would gladly recommend the hotel.

Amazing cooked to order breakfasts! Loads of choices.
Warm and friendly welcome from Rich and Ada. They gave great suggestions on places to visit.
Room was comfortable with everything you needed for a short break in a convenient location to explore that part of the Lake District. Plenty of places to eat within walking distance.
The free access to the local spa was a lovely bonus after all the walking!
Would highly recommend and would gladly visit again.

Lovely guest house, 10 minutes walk from Windermere and Bowness. Loads of lovely restaurants, cafes to choose from.
Breakfast was plentiful and delicious and lots of excellent choices.
Rich and his team were very helpful.
Just be aware that offside health club is 2 miles away so tricky if you don't travel by car. Not a problem for us as we enjoyed the local walks and amenities.

We had a lovely stay, and upgraded at a fee, to a room on the ground floor which made accessibility much easier for me. The owner Rich and Adi were welcoming and helpful during and particularly at the end of our trip. The breakfast was varied and very tasty. It was all cooked fresh in the morning to order.(we made our meal choices the night before). The pool was about a 10 minute drive away and was quite busy with children when we went in late afternoon. Half of the small pool had 2 children getting swimming lessons. The spa part was very nice.

We stayed at St John’s Lodge for 3 nights and had a lovely stop. The location is excellent as you’re in between Bowness & Windermere with plenty of options of evening meals and Rich is very knowledgeable to provide you with recommendations. The room was immaculate and the breakfast was, well… WOW! Incredible selection to choose from and incredibly delicious. I couldn’t recommend this hotel more. The off site spa and pool was brilliant too, we were lucky that we had the pool to ourselves the entire time we was there!

Our stay couldn’t have been better. Right from arrival, we felt relaxed and welcomed, which set the tone for the entire visit. The level of hospitality was outstanding — Rich truly made a difference and went out of his way to ensure everything was perfect.
The accommodation was impeccably clean and very well cared for; it’s obvious a lot of thought and pride goes into maintaining the space. We also really appreciated the breakfast option — the quality was excellent and a great way to start the day.
If you’re planning a trip to the Lake, this is without a doubt the place to stay. We’ll be returning here every time we’re in the area and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it to anyone.

This was our 3rd stay at St John's Lodge and yet again it did not disappoint.

Great location, great room (which was upgraded when we arrived, a welcome surprise), great breakfast and amazing service from the Hosts Rich & Ada. Having free access to the Local health club and spa is another fantastic bonus, popping in after a hike to utilise the jacuzzi is great!

We couldn't ask for more from St John's Lodge, Rich and Ada are excellent hosts and couldn't do more for us. We hope to return again next year!

Location: Perfect for us. Almost equidistant between Bowness and Windermere village, with easy access to both Orrest Head and Brant Fell walks, and restaurants at both ends.

Parking: Easy parking just outside for 3 cars, with additional 4 parking spaces near a bus shelter almost opposite of the lodge.

Hosts(s): Lovely welcome by Rich who was always around when needed, yet not intrusive at all.

Room: We had an upgrade to the large king room (Room 3 called \"Windermere\") on the ground floor. Excellent room - spacious, very clean, well furnished, easily movable TV (allowing viewing from both from the sofa and the bed), fresh milk in the small fridge, and coffee and tea making facilities.

Breakfast: Lovely breakfast room, with a good choice of cooked breakfast (choices communicated the day before), fruit, cereal and juices. We enjoyed well cooked Eggs Royale every day.

Overall, an excellent stay and we will be happy to return back to St John's Lodge.

What a wonderful hotel. Greated by the owner when we arrived, explained everything about the hotel, offered to help us with the local area if we didn’t know how to get around. Perfect location for staying in the Lake District

Situated in a convenient location on the main road between Windermere and Bowness, our stay was amazing. Rich and Ada were brilliant hosts, welcoming and was very helpful. Breakfast was one of the best we've had in the UK and comes with so many different options. We had booked a cost double room but didn't feel that small to be fair. They were cleaned daily and the bed was so comfortable. There is no doubt that if we come back to the Lake District, this would be where we would stay again.

I used the health club and went at a quite busy time (after work slot), I would advise visiting outside the peak hours if you can. Facilities at the gym/spa were great, it was just busy and not as clean etc as a result.

This property is on the Lake Road, a main road that runs from Windermere to Bowness.

Bus stops are nearby and fairly frequent and can take you into nearby Windermere, if you don't want to walk, or other parts of the Lake District eg Grasmere.

The property itself is lovely, slightly rustic, but I like that 'home from home' feel. Our room (Kingsize) was very well laid out, had useful amenities and quite comfortable. One small gripe, which Richard warned us about, is the wardrobe not closing properly, and it didn't 😞, hopefully it's fixed by now.

Breakfast was a feast of pastries, cereal, yoghurt, fruit juices and fresh fruit and a menu for additional hot choices. I couldn't finish my breakfast on the last day (a brekkie kebab), so Ada kindly wrapped it for me to take away. No complaints at all.

Thank you Rich and Ada for making our stay very comfortable. Nothing was too much trouble for either of you and you and you were both extremely helpful when we asked for information and advice.

A wonderful stay at this charming guest house. Our hosts Rich and Ada were very welcoming and gave us recommendations on places to eat and walks to enjoy in the local area. We had a tastefully decorated small double room which was spotless and although compact very comfortable with everything we needed including a mini fridge. Breakfasts were delicious, fantastic choices, beautifuly presented and fresh local ingredients. Lovely little garden at the back.
Very easy walk to both Windermere proper and Bowness, ten mins each way.

A lovely stay, we will return.

The property was within walking distance of Windermere and Bowness.
The hotel was spotless as were the rooms with some lovely personal touches.
The breakfast was amazing with a choice of 24 hot options, you just had to order by 6.30pm the night before. On top of that there was cereals, fresh fruit, cheese, yoghurt, toast, fruit juice, tea and coffee - absolutely superb.
Would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone visiting the Lake District.

Schrödinger’s lounge - is it there or not?

A curious though adequate place, at times we felt as though we were a bit of an inconvenience - we got stuck in traffic so a couple of hours later than predicted - greeted with ‘oh, you were meant to be here earlier but we’ll take your breakfast order anyway’ (must be in before 6pm, it was nearer 7). We were told and show. The lounch with honesty bar. We weren’t told it’s locked - yes locked - at 10. We arrived back from dinner at 3 minutes past to find this out. The following night it was closed by 9.55pm. Breakfast was good but it really lacked the ambience or conviviality which would have improved the stay

I booked this last minute and so glad I came across it. Booked King but got free upgrade to large King. Everything excellent, very comfortable, quiet, clean, plenty of extras in room including bottled milk in fridge, two bottles water, cotton wool and buds as well as the usual shower gel, shampoo, conditior soap, and an extra nice touch wine glasses in room.
Host very friendly and informative, folder provided with lots of information on local area. Mini bar with honesty box available in lounge.
Delicious breakfast with plenty of choice.
Great location in quieter area inbetween busy bowness and windermere and we parked right outside front door, no charge.
Could not fault it at all and would definitely stay here again :)

What a lovely place is St Johns Lodge, made all the better by being run by Rich and Ada, who were lovely, and couldn't do enough for us. The room was very tastefully decorated, very comfortable. The bathroom was large, and the shower easy to get into, and loads of lovely hot water.
The breakfasts were the best we've had, and Rich and his team did everything to make it perfect, even managing to get coffee to my husbands liking (a very difficult feat!!). They provide a very useful folder that has places of interest to visit, restaurants and walks in the area. They were very easy to talk to and I cannot recommend this guest house highly enough.

For the the very beginning to the end, our stay at St Johns Lodge was amazing. We were welcomed in an extremely friendly way, with personal service from the very go.
We had been given a free uograde to the supreme king room and what ablively room it is, clean, comfy bed, good sized tv and very nice bathroom. The bed was so comfy my wife fell asleep at 930pm( the walking and wine may also have contributed to this!!!)
Breakfast was gorgeous, i had full english and the wife bacon, eggs and has browns, all washed down with as much fruit juice or tea and coffee as you wanted. There was also a cold buffet of fruit, cereals and yogurts.
This place is perfect for a nice walk up to Windermere or a stroll down to Bowness and all the restaurants, pubs and activitelies.
All in all a fantastic stay and will defo book here again.
