Our stay couldn’t have been better. Right from arrival, we felt relaxed and welcomed, which set the tone for the entire visit. The level of hospitality was outstanding — Rich truly made a difference and went out of his way to ensure everything was perfect.
The accommodation was impeccably clean and very well cared for; it’s obvious a lot of thought and pride goes into maintaining the space. We also really appreciated the breakfast option — the quality was excellent and a great way to start the day.
If you’re planning a trip to the Lake, this is without a doubt the place to stay. We’ll be returning here every time we’re in the area and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it to anyone.

This was our 3rd stay at St John's Lodge and yet again it did not disappoint.

Great location, great room (which was upgraded when we arrived, a welcome surprise), great breakfast and amazing service from the Hosts Rich & Ada. Having free access to the Local health club and spa is another fantastic bonus, popping in after a hike to utilise the jacuzzi is great!

We couldn't ask for more from St John's Lodge, Rich and Ada are excellent hosts and couldn't do more for us. We hope to return again next year!

We had a lovely room and a walk in shower always a bonus as I have mobility issues. Good location between Windermere and Bowness about 10-15 minutes walk each way. Bus stop across the road to Ambleside and Grasmere. Would stay again when in the area.

Fab stay at St John’s lodge and will definitely look to return. Room was clean and had everything we needed. Ada was very welcoming and helpful. The breakfast variety was fantastic and the quality of the food was very good too. Easy walk to either Windermere or Bowness too with lots of options for food and drink.

Location: Perfect for us. Almost equidistant between Bowness and Windermere village, with easy access to both Orrest Head and Brant Fell walks, and restaurants at both ends.

Parking: Easy parking just outside for 3 cars, with additional 4 parking spaces near a bus shelter almost opposite of the lodge.

Hosts(s): Lovely welcome by Rich who was always around when needed, yet not intrusive at all.

Room: We had an upgrade to the large king room (Room 3 called \"Windermere\") on the ground floor. Excellent room - spacious, very clean, well furnished, easily movable TV (allowing viewing from both from the sofa and the bed), fresh milk in the small fridge, and coffee and tea making facilities.

Breakfast: Lovely breakfast room, with a good choice of cooked breakfast (choices communicated the day before), fruit, cereal and juices. We enjoyed well cooked Eggs Royale every day.

Overall, an excellent stay and we will be happy to return back to St John's Lodge.

What a wonderful hotel. Greated by the owner when we arrived, explained everything about the hotel, offered to help us with the local area if we didn’t know how to get around. The breakfast choice was immense and everything we had was beautifully presented and perfectly cooked. Rich and Ada were both very welcoming and nothing was too much trouble. We will definitely stay here again. Location is perfect, the same distance from Bowness and Windermere and both being walkable

Perfect location for staying in the Lake District

Situated in a convenient location on the main road between Windermere and Bowness, our stay was amazing. Rich and Ada were brilliant hosts, welcoming and was very helpful. Breakfast was one of the best we've had in the UK and comes with so many different options. We had booked a cost double room but didn't feel that small to be fair. They were cleaned daily and the bed was so comfortable. There is no doubt that if we come back to the Lake District, this would be where we would stay again.

Windermere Long Weekend Stay at St John’s Lodge

We enjoyed a fabulous week end. Rich & Ada were very friendly and helpful, giving lots of advice for getting around, places to visit, including walks to enjoy starting from the hotel. Our room was lovely and the extensive breakfast menu gave fantastic choice.

A good location, great breakfast and friendly hosts combined for a lovely stay.

I used the health club and went at a quite busy time (after work slot), I would advise visiting outside the peak hours if you can. Facilities at the gym/spa were great, it was just busy and not as clean etc as a result.

Overall a great stay and will stay again next time i am in the area.

This property is on the Lake Road, a main road that runs from Windermere to Bowness.

Bus stops are nearby and fairly frequent and can take you into nearby Windermere, if you don't want to walk, or other parts of the Lake District eg Grasmere.

The property itself is lovely, slightly rustic, but I like that 'home from home' feel. Our room (Kingsize) was very well laid out, had useful amenities and quite comfortable. One small gripe, which Richard warned us about, is the wardrobe not closing properly, and it didn't 😞, hopefully it's fixed by now.

Breakfast was a feast of pastries, cereal, yoghurt, fruit juices and fresh fruit and a menu for additional hot choices. I couldn't finish my breakfast on the last day (a brekkie kebab), so Ada kindly wrapped it for me to take away. No complaints at all.

Thank you Rich and Ada for making our stay very comfortable. Nothing was too much trouble for either of you and you and you were both extremely helpful when we asked for information and advice.

Honestly one of best places I have stayed. Such a lovely area and Richard was amazing. He was very kind and very helpful. Everything was amazing from the room to the breakfast in the morning. Definitely will be planning on staying again. Me and my friend really loved our stay and both agreed to stay again.

St Johns lodge is located conveniently to various amenities around bowness and windermere. rooms and facilities are top notch. Hosts Rich and Ada took personal interest to ensure the stay went well. Excellent breakfast. cherry on top was the free offsite spa facilities we had access after a long tiring hike.

Best breakfast in Windermere 😊

A wonderful stay at this charming guest house. Our hosts Rich and Ada were very welcoming and gave us recommendations on places to eat and walks to enjoy in the local area. We had a tastefully decorated small double room which was spotless and although compact very comfortable with everything we needed including a mini fridge. Breakfasts were delicious, fantastic choices, beautifuly presented and fresh local ingredients. Lovely little garden at the back.
Very easy walk to both Windermere proper and Bowness, ten mins each way.

A lovely stay, we will return.

The room was so lovely, so many personal touches which makes such a difference :) Rich has a list of recommendations and places to see which was very helpful. we also tried the spa facilities which were fantastic! Amazing!

My 8 year old daughter and I loved our stay at St John’s Lodge. Nothing was too much trouble. Our room was cosy and well maintained. The games in the guest lounge along with the honesty fridge were a great touch. The breakfast was amazing. Kept us going alll day. We will be back.

The property was within walking distance of Windermere and Bowness.
The hotel was spotless as were the rooms with some lovely personal touches.
The breakfast was amazing with a choice of 24 hot options, you just had to order by 6.30pm the night before. On top of that there was cereals, fresh fruit, cheese, yoghurt, toast, fruit juice, tea and coffee - absolutely superb.
Would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone visiting the Lake District.

Schrödinger’s lounge - is it there or not?

A curious though adequate place, at times we felt as though we were a bit of an inconvenience - we got stuck in traffic so a couple of hours later than predicted - greeted with ‘oh, you were meant to be here earlier but we’ll take your breakfast order anyway’ (must be in before 6pm, it was nearer 7). We were told and show. The lounch with honesty bar. We weren’t told it’s locked - yes locked - at 10. We arrived back from dinner at 3 minutes past to find this out. The following night it was closed by 9.55pm. Breakfast was good but it really lacked the ambience or conviviality which would have improved the stay

The hotel is short distance from the ferries, so is well situated. The check-in was friendly, quick and efficient. Cleanliness was good, towels were changed second night and bin empty every day. The breakfast was amazing, lots to choose from. Price for what we paid and overall experience, well worth it. Recommend the place.

I booked this last minute and so glad I came across it. Booked King but got free upgrade to large King. Everything excellent, very comfortable, quiet, clean, plenty of extras in room including bottled milk in fridge, two bottles water, cotton wool and buds as well as the usual shower gel, shampoo, conditior soap, and an extra nice touch wine glasses in room.
Host very friendly and informative, folder provided with lots of information on local area. Mini bar with honesty box available in lounge.
Delicious breakfast with plenty of choice.
Great location in quieter area inbetween busy bowness and windermere and we parked right outside front door, no charge.
Could not fault it at all and would definitely stay here again :)

What a lovely place is St Johns Lodge, made all the better by being run by Rich and Ada, who were lovely, and couldn't do enough for us. The room was very tastefully decorated, very comfortable. The bathroom was large, and the shower easy to get into, and loads of lovely hot water.
The breakfasts were the best we've had, and Rich and his team did everything to make it perfect, even managing to get coffee to my husbands liking (a very difficult feat!!). They provide a very useful folder that has places of interest to visit, restaurants and walks in the area. They were very easy to talk to and I cannot recommend this guest house highly enough.

For the the very beginning to the end, our stay at St Johns Lodge was amazing. We were welcomed in an extremely friendly way, with personal service from the very go.
We had been given a free uograde to the supreme king room and what ablively room it is, clean, comfy bed, good sized tv and very nice bathroom. The bed was so comfy my wife fell asleep at 930pm( the walking and wine may also have contributed to this!!!)
Breakfast was gorgeous, i had full english and the wife bacon, eggs and has browns, all washed down with as much fruit juice or tea and coffee as you wanted. There was also a cold buffet of fruit, cereals and yogurts.
This place is perfect for a nice walk up to Windermere or a stroll down to Bowness and all the restaurants, pubs and activitelies.
All in all a fantastic stay and will defo book here again.

Lovely stay - would return

This little B&B in Windermere has standards of comfort and service which could rival a 5* international hotel. Before we arrived I received a call from Rich to confirm our arrival time. The room was clean, comfortable and appointed to a very high standard. The Breakfast selection was second to none, with lots of freshly cooked options - and all dietary requirements catered for. I would have no hesitation in recommending this B&B for an upmarket stay. It is within easy walking distance of Windermere centre with dining and transport options. I used the off-site health club which was about a 5 minute drive away.

Overall, we were very pleased with our 2-night stay. Excellent location. We mostly walked to sites that were nearby. The room was comfortable and clean and we slept well. There is parking onsite as well as down the road--this was somewhat stressful when we first arrived, as it was quite difficult to get into the one remaining space on site--it requires some maneuvering and the location is right by a low-visibility bend in the road with cars zipping by and lots of pedestrians as well. Would not have been an issue with one of the other two spots, however; we did not try the other parking down the road, but that would not have been very convenient given we had a lot of luggage. One minor complaint: there is a lit sign that appeared to be on all night and brought some ambient light into our room (which was close to the sign); I didn't complain about it, but the owners might consider turning the sign light off at night (at least late in the night). The owners were friendly and responsive and did a load of laundry for us at a very reasonable rate. Where this place really shines is the breakfast: they have many options and really go above and beyond. Overall, we really enjoyed our stay.

My partner and I stayed here as a last minute getaway from home before we got started with christmas. The accomodation was perfect, the location was about 10 minute walk into Bowness itself, the hosts were perfect polite, professional and informative. The food was beautiful with a good broad selection. The double bed en suite room was very clean and tidy with a good variety of tea / chocolate. The bed was comfortable and spacious. From the moment we checked in, to the moment we checked out, nothing was too much trouble. I am vegetarian and was provided with a better choice for breakfast, than at any hotel I have ever stayed in. We stayed for three nights and tried something different each morning. The quality was also excellent. All areas were spotlessly clean, throughout and very well maintained. I can't recommend this place highly enough. Excellent.

From to start to finish excellent service . Room comfy clean.even little fridge in room to house fresh daily milk. Breakfasts out of this world 24 cooked items to choose from. Vegan/vegetarian too. Cereals. Fruit. Juices.
20 mins walk from Windermere lake. And restaurants about 20 opposite direction. Access to off site leisure facility with 15m pool, jacuzzi, sauna & steam room. If u feel energetic gym room too.if u fancied a massage they do these at extra costs. Owner Rich was very helpful. If you wanted flowers or choc for special occasions he can help arrange that.
