Beautiful setting, really looks the same as the pictures. However, we felt that the look of the place was more important to the hotel, than how it worked. There were used cotton buds on the floor in the hotel room and the bathroom. Our 8 year olds bed was a fold out camp bed. When we tried to put the air conditioning on, it didn’t work, we later found a pice of paper in the room saying it wasn’t in use. It was a very hot day. The sheets were very starchy and noisy every time you move. Plug sockets for charging only on one side of the bed. The hotel carpets are pretty grubby. No children in the pool from 7pm, didn’t learn that until check in. No changing rooms in the swimming pool: it was like school. Then men’s didn’t even have private shower cubicles. We waited 5 mins before anyone came to seat us and 2 other groups for breakfast at 08.10, we were taken to a table but not given any instructions: do we order at the counter or the table. Waited about 3 mins at the bar to het some water while 4 staff came, went and had a chat.
The check in, pool and housekeeping staff were all very professional and helpful. The breakfast was ok: eggs Royale: the breakfast muffin was so tough you couldn’t cut it, gave up on the end and just ate the eggs and salmon. Don’t get me wrong, we had a great time, but I would have expected more from this type of hotel. We’ve been on a 10 day trip to 7 different hotels and they all did much better: even the older, more dated ones.

The hotel is lovely overall, but it feels a little tired in places, with some short-term fixes rather than longer-term solutions.
Our room was very warm, and a sign advised calling reception as the air conditioning was decommissioned. When I did, the response felt quite dismissive, focusing on the fact that air-con wasn’t included in the booking. I wasn’t expecting it as a given, just following the instructions for help — especially as we were travelling with a 3-month-old and the room was uncomfortable. It only really felt like help was offered once I mentioned the baby; to their credit, a fan was then found and brought up.
It does feel unusual to have air-con units installed but not in use, particularly for a busy 4-star hotel where room rates aren’t low. Even at 22°C outside, the room was too warm, so this is likely to become more of an issue in summer.
There were also a few small details that stood out — the TV was unplugged and needed moving to access the socket, and breakfast service was slow. Coffee beyond a basic cafetière at breakfast is chargeable; my latte was over £4, but didn’t taste barista-made and felt out of step with the pricing.
I did enjoy my stay, but it was these small, slightly surprising touches that detracted from what could otherwise be a really strong experience.

We stayed for 2 nights with our 6 year old in a Fabulous room. Overall we enjoyed our stay. The room was nice but it was abit tired and could do with a refresh. There was an awful smell in our room which we didn't notice until we closed the window but it seemed to be coming from the carpet. And we did notice alot of damp patches on ceilings and wallsas we were leaving. All in all it was ok but if we had paid full price for the room (we booked on a deal) I would have been extremely disappointed. It didnt live up to up the luxury standard they advertise on instagram or even compared to some of the 'Fabulous Rooms' they advertise on their website as being bright and airy. The room was over looking the river though which was lovley and the facilities in the room were more than adequate. The bed was comfortable and the trundle bed they set up for our 6 year old was perfectly fine.

We ate in the onsite restaurants both nights. One restaurant is the Swan Inn which is more pub type food and the other is the Brasserie which is more restaurant quality. Both are nice but can be quite pricey but haven eaten there before we was expecting this. The only thing I would say is the Vegetarian options on the Pub menu need looking at there isnt much choice.

The staff in the hotel were all friendly and generally the hotel has a warm cosy atmosphere. We didnt use the Spa facilities but we did use the family pool which my 6 year old loved.

Food at the Inn arrived incorrectly, and tasteless. It was removed from the bill.
When we entered our room the toilet seat almost fell off when moved. The heater in the room was broken.
We used the hotel pool facility. The changing rooms were dirty.
Dirty nappies in the swimsuit dryer.
Sauna out of order. Broken drains on the jacuzzi.
When the bubbles were on in the jacuzzi the water smelled stale and unclean.
On reporting the cleanliness of the facilities after complaining previously about the seat and heater the ‘customer service ‘ staff simply said. I don’t know what to tell you.
There are comfy sofas but the areas but not enough and were cold despite the fires burning. We had to spend the evening in our room.
No smart TV.
It was bitterly disappointing for what is billed as 4 star.
We have stayed in far superior hotels with far superior service.

The window in our room was very old and the wooden frame was falling apart and the window was covered with black thick mould.
We booked a table in the restaurant for my birthday. We were only people sitting in the restaurant, however the waitress left us. We sat there with no service. We had to keep asking for drinks and food. Our desert arrived 25 minutes after our main course. We sat there for hour and a half just waiting for the service.

The first room we were given had mould, a bad smell, and dirty carpets, though staff did move us quickly to a better room.
Breakfast service was consistently slow — on some days we were ignored and had to chase staff to take our order. Food was often cold, and we overheard other guests also complaining.
Housekeeping was inconsistent. Towels weren’t always replaced, the toilet and bathroom weren’t cleaned, and rooms weren’t hoovered during the stay. For the £25 per night dog charge, we expected more than a single towel and blanket with no daily refresh.
There were also maintenance issues (broken bathroom doors, stained furniture, missing remote cover), and only two disabled parking spaces which were always full.
On the positive side, the spa treatments were excellent — especially Scarlett, who was lovely — and we appreciated being offered an accessible room, which many hotels don’t provide.
Sadly, the overall experience didn’t meet expectations, and I wouldn’t recommend this hotel based on our stay.

Lovely hotel but unsafe heat wise

The room was so hot it was unsafe. The air conditioning units have been decomissioned but there is no fans or alternative options to be cool- anf the reception staff really didnt care. The rest of the hotel was lovely and food was great for breakfast.

We chose this hotel as it was promoted as dog friendly and we were visiting the area for hikes with our pup. Overall we enjoyed our stay. We thought the food in the restaurant was really great - especially the Sunday roast! Parking was included which was great, and there's a really nice trail right from the property that was perfect for morning strolls. The staff were very friendly and the room was spacious and nice.

We did feel that overall the establishment was understaffed and it led to a subpar experience in some ways. We were constantly left waiting in the restaurant for orders to be taken and things were forgotten on numerous occasions. At the spa, they let way too many people in and it was overcrowded, loud and not relaxing. There wasn't even a spot on the wall to lean on in the hot tubs. This was a bit disappointing as its a lovely spa and has so much potential.

Only sharing this feedback in hopes some small changes could be made to bring the hotel up to it's full potential!

Staff are fantastic- extremely helpful and friendly. Breakfast a little chaotic. If you’re not early you can be waiting 45mins for food and they ran out of eggs during our stay. Also almost all of our group of 16 had to have tepid or cold showers which was also disappointing. That said we enjoyed our stay and we’d go back.

We’ve been to the Swan a few times over the past few years. It’s a real shame to see such a nice hotel be neglected. It is in dire need of a refurb. Peeling wall paper in the bar area, mold on the bedrooms and restaurant, hall lights not working. We were so disappointed, especially as they market themselves as a high-end hotel

Just got home really upset. Saved up to take my mum as a special treat. We arrived and checked into our “lovely room”. There is nothing lovely about this room. It was filthy. I was embarrassed to take my mum.
I’m not one to complain and feel awkward in doing so so didn’t say anything. Had we been asked how everything was then I would’ve said but we weren’t even asked on checking out how we found everything.
First the room was shocking , drafty and in desperate need of a full makeover. It’s tired, paint chipping, dirty marks all over, really grubby heavily stained carpet. Filthy radiator, who knows what we were breathing in from it.
Heavily marked area where the tea and coffee pot were. No slippers, robes or bottled water as advertised .
Windows were like a health hazard, black mould, really cold draft coming through, heavily disguised with shutters.
We went to the spa, same again, dirty. Foam scum in the pool. Used cups, food containers and plastic glasses littered everywhere, on tables, around the pool, outside, towels everywhere. We were in there for 2hrs and they were still there when we left!
Restaurant food was ok but expensive. The waiter was very nice. He was the best thing about it.
The hotel was cold and drafty. My mum gets cold so he sat us at “the warmest table” in the restaurant as it was next to a radiator…this wasn’t on!
The fires were out in the evening. We had to go back up and put an extra layer on to sit in the bar area as it was that drafty.

I had high hopes for the hotel given its social media presence but found it in need of a bit of tlc. The food and drink were really overpriced, we waited 45 minutes for breakfast then when asking if all was ok found the order had been lost and there was another 20 minute wait. Staff were not very attentive. Our room was a bit rough around the edges and not the particularly clean the saving grace was the size and comfort of the bed

The hotel was lovely and the room we stayed in had a very comfy bed, tea and coffee facilities and a river view.
The food was very nice although a little on the pricey side. I was a bit disappointed that the picture of the pool on the website which went outside was only accessible via the spa though. Breakfast was a little chaotic and took us sometime to get our breakfast ordered.
Overall this was a great one night stay.

The worst hotel I never stayed at! Accidentally booked for the wrong date. Contacted the hotel about 3 months in advance to try and change the booking and given an absolute flat ‘no’ despite there still being availability at the correct date. Really poor customer service.

Great location, decent food and good bed. Dissapointed charged an extra £65 for a dog, when selected a pet friendly room via expedia. Customer service was very poor and one staff members attitude was awful. Expected better from a hotel such as the swan. Wont stay again, very stressful experience checking in, not relaxing as it should be.

Too many little things missing

Air con unit in the bedroom with a sign saying no longer working, but no fan.
No bath mat or grab rails, only shower over bath and very slippery.
No toilet brush.
No shower cap or cotton buds.
Large containers of shampoo and conditioner did not pump.
Breakfast -make your own toast but it burns the toast and was told \" it always does that !\"
Coffee was served but i'd almost finished my breakfast by the time it arrived.
