We were upgraded to a luxury room. There was nothing luxury about it, very tired, tiles around the bath cracked and lifting, wall behind the bath water damage. The room looked nothing like the pictures, it was tiny, dark and gloomy. I understand it is an old building, but this room should definitely not be classed as luxury.

The only negative I have was we stayed in room 8 so practically every guest staying had to walk passed our room. The floor boards oustdie creeked everything a guest walked passed our room. We must have been above the bar a it was noisy until quite late cleaning up.

This hotel outside appearance is uninspiring, however inside the bar & restaurant it is welcoming with a roaring fire lovely on a very cold day.
Food is excellent, particularly the breakfast, with an interesting assortment.
Our room was a good size & thankfully near the car park as when you access the hotel through the back door it is a route march to find reception.

This is the 3 rd time we have stayed at the Wild Boar and we decided to
Upgrade our room this time . Unfortunately the shower had not be cleaned and had cobwebs hanging from

Indicating it had not been cleaned throughly for some time . All staff were friendly and the meals are fantastic unfortunately the standard of cleanliness of the shower somewhat tarnished the stay as the room upgrade was significantly more expensive than the standard rooms.

Really nice little inn, service was good. The extra charges I thought were a bit overpriced. £30 per day per dog was £120 for us but the worst charge was the £15 per day for parking. There is no option as it’s quite out of the way and there is other option. It goes as a 5 star - not sure about that. We had a double bed which is really small maybe we are used to a bigger bed, so was not that comfortable and there was mould in the shower, which is an easy fix.

as we booked with Tesco Club card, charge service charge for drinks and they added a £1 donation for plant a tree. It would be nice if you were asked if you wanted to contribute before adding it to your bill.

Hotel room was really nice and spacious. Friendly staff and helpful.
Large carpark for your stay but no electrical ports for electric vehicles so not that eco friendly.
On check out after a 2 night stay had to pay £12 parking fee even though there’s no alternative as your in the middle of the countryside so seems rather cheeky, also £1 to plant a tree, I didn’t plant a tree and then £12 service charge, this on top of the hotel cost and the parking fees.
Restaurant food was very nice but not alit of choice so went into Windermere in our second night,

Lovely hôtel - perfect for Lake Windermere. Facilities in the hotel are great: there are even wellingtons you can borrow to do a woodland walk. The restaurant is fantastic with high quality food. The lounge and reception area have wonderful open fires which make it feel really cosy. Our feature room was fantastic and roomy.

Alright, not very clean.

An OK place to stay for a night. Bed comfy enough, good blackout curtains, quiet location although noise from other rooms travelled easily. Unfortunately the bathroom wasn't very clean - hairs and black mould in the bath and dead bugs squished into the blind. There was also a dried bogey stuck to the bedside table. Mentioned at reception on checkout so hopefully will be improved for future guests.

The stand-out features were definitely the level of service and quality of food. The breakfasts were delicious - the best of any hotel we've stayed in.
The experience was let down slightly by the accommodation, which wasn't by any means a five-star room. There were signs of mould around the windows, the bathroom hadn't been thoroughly cleaned prior to our arrival, and the general decor was faded and worn. This was a real shame, since the main guest areas of the hotel were immaculately presented.

Disappointed. Not terrible, but won't be back.

We were excited to stay here, but to be honest we left a bit disappointed at the end of our stay.
Firstly, you walk past loads of rooms that have funky pig pictures on, which is a nice touch, but for some reason our room didn't have one on. I can only assume they are suites, but it leaves you feeling a bit like you got a room that isn't as good.
The bathroom needed updating. The plug was broken (useable, but looked bad) and the shower is faded. Also, I wasn't expecting a shower curtain when you are spending this sort of money.
At dinner, service seemed a bit strained and the staff weren't very friendly. Not unfriendly, but just wanted to serve your food and leave. We were on a really exposed table which made it hard for us to have a personal conversion without feeling others were listening.
The food was nice, but it's pricey.
The bed was comfortable, but the walls are really thin so you can hear your neighbours really clearly. We were on the ground floor and must've had an outside tap under our window, as I could hear that being used really early (even before our early start).
The final disappointment was that they charged £13 for parking as we were leaving! If you HAVE to charge for parking, at least just add it to the room price. Absolute joke, considering you have no choice but to drive to this hotel (unless you walk a long way). We were already not very happy but that was a real shame. Feels like this could all be easily improved if they tried a little harder.

Great hotel. We previously used the hotel for anniversary and birthday one night stays but had a wedding in Windermere so didn’t see much of the room but they’re very good and clean. Didn’t use the restaurant this time but normally do and it’s very very good. Breakfast was epic. Staff friendly. Room clean it’s a 12 quid taxi to town centre (01539445445). Some town centre Windermere hotels are crap and pricey this is a good alternate if it fits your plans. They charge you for parking if you book on hotels.com which is a little annoying

Hidden Charges For App Customers

Hotel was fine and the alternative afternoon tea was great.
Reason for negative review is the hidden £12 car park charge for booking using an app. I dont actually care about the charge just that it was hidden and only applies to app customers. Feels like a con to eliminate the app discount.
The only reason i used an app was because the direct booking wasnt working working on the site.
Hopefully Hotels.com can look into this as i feel it violates the Ts&Cs of the app

We really enjoyed our stay. The hotel was excellent. Our enjoyment was soured upon checkout, when we were charged £12.00 for parking. There was no mention anywhere about charges for parking. If charges are to be made, then this should be made clearer at the time of booking. Also as the Hotel is out in the country how is everyone supposed to get there, without incurring charges. If we were to pull in & have a meal, there would be no charge,as we stayed enjoying your facilities & spending lots of money, we were charged.

A lot of hidden charges

We booked our room for £135 thinking that was the price for the stay obviously we would have to pay for our own meals but we got charged extras for our dog staying for parking on their grounds and was also told we could have a table for dinner there as all the tables were booked up by the locals. Also there is no swimming pool at that hotel it is miles down the road which we couldn’t book into to go for a swim. And by the time we checked out we ended up paying an extra £80 for charges we did not expect. I would not stay again

We came with a dog which has always made us feel apprehensive however from the moment we arrived staff made us feel very welcome and comfortable.

The price of the meals were very expensive considering neither of us ate meat we were paying £20 per dish which was disappointing considering no meat was involved (Always expected it to be expensive however was quite shocked at the price and how close it was to dishes with meat in)

I will say this is the first place we have ever stayed where we genuinely felt our dog was welcome which made such a difference to us.

Overall this is a nice hotel and we had an enjoyable stay. The only gripe was the parking charge which was applied to our bill when we checked out. We were charged £12 for two days parking because the stay was booked through a third party, and not directly with the hotel. I find this ridiculous, why should it make any difference who we booked with! Underhanded way of making more money which would put me off visiting again.

A lovely hotel, full of character. The staff were friendly and very helpful. The restaurant food and service were excellent and we had a very enjoyable evening meal and a hearty breakfast in the morning.

Our room was nicely decorated, well furnished and with a comfortable bed. It was very clean and had a good selection of teas/coffee etc.

The bar area was convivial and the friendly staff made us feel welcome. It had good ales and a nice selection of drinks. The gents toilets at the bar have an interesting water feature the likes of which I have never seen before, and the restaurant features an open rock face, another unusual feature which makes this place stand out.

Our 6 year old boy enjoyed his stay and the garden swing at the back of the property was his favourite feature.

We really enjoyed our stay, but it wasn't quite perfect... The hotel itself is fantastic and has so much charm. Having its own onsite brewery and smokehouse are unique features that you definitly don't find everywhere! The food in the restaurant was also impressive, but the service let it down. We ate around 8:15pm and it the staff seemed more interested in setting up for the next day, rather than looking after the tables that were still eating. Being charged £12 for parking on checkout seemed steep and unfortunately left a sour taste in our mouths as we left.
Overall, though, it was a great stay and would recommend.

Very squeaky floorboards and super thin walls. None of the doors have soft close so all you can hear is the room doors slamming all the time. Limited car parking spaces - and then they have the cheek to charge you £12 a night for the privilege! It's not even as if it's in a big town to deter other people from parking there? Very strange.

That being said, the breakfast service was exceptional!

Very nice hotel with lots of character: room good with a good king size bed. Very good food. Leave room for breakfast as this is excellent. You can walk it to Bowness in about 50 minutes. Walk is 30% on the road and 70% path over fields away from roads etc. Taxi back was £8. Overall very nice and we would stay again.

Rooms were to a high standard and staff were friendly. However, WiFi dropped in my room and was intermittent which didn’t help with not having any phone signal either. Mentioned to front of house and told there wasn’t an issue. Also just a small little thing was the room card for breakfast wasn’t in my room, rang to ask for one and told it was in a drawer, it wasn’t so tried to call back a few times with no answer. Then had to walk around the property to the front desk to collect one in person. I was offered assistance with my bags around the hotel as it was a bit of a wander and also it was highly doggy friendly which was lovely to see.

Top Quality Hotel and Restaurant with a great team

We had a fantastic stay at The Wild Boar. We stayed in the Hampshire Room which was very comfortable, immaculate, tastefully decorated and had balcony doors. In room facilities such as tea, coffee etc are all provided you can even have a picnic made up if you like.

We had dinner which was beyond our expectations with an extensive menu to choose from including meat from the on site smokery and beer from the Wild Boar Brewery. My partner had the most delicious Lebanese Hummus and I had the Crab Taco. He has the Wild Boar Burger and I had the Portuguese Espetada with Lamb which was one of the best lamb dishes I have EVER had! We were so full we didn't have pudding! The restaurant and pub interior is fabulous and there was a great atmosphere.

Breakfast was just as good and there is a varied selection.

All of the staff were very friendly and helpful, in fact it was one of the most organised places I think we have stayed in a very long time, the COVID measures are very reassuring aswell. Service overall from the reception and hotel side to the restaurant was fantastic.

We stayed for one night with 2 motorbikes and it was easy to park and the staff kept an eye on them which is always appreciated. There is a parking charge but this was not an issue.

We will definitely visit again and have already recommended to friends and family. The Wild Boar Team have got the whole set up right and it shows.

Really disappointing stay.
No availability for dinner in the hotel. The hotel did contact us 3 days before we arrived to ask if we wanted dinner - I said yes and they said they have no availability till 8:30 but when there is a 3 year old as part of our party that is far too late. When I said it was no good the response I got was to ring around Windermere as it’s very busy! I really thought hotel guests would have been priority but people coming in not staying at the hotel.

There was a wedding taking place and there was nowhere to sit and have a drink after checking in. The lounge was closed for the wedding until 7pm and the restaurant (although empty) was not allowing guests. We were told we could “sit outside”. We had to complain, which we don’t like to do but it is an expensive hotel and having a few drinks on arrival is all part of going away! The hotel need to consider paying guests as well as the wedding party. The hotel is in the middle of nowhere so it’s not like you can just find somewhere close to go!
We stayed in two rooms - one was huge with a lovely copper bath, the other was small and more basic but we paid exactly the same price! The rooms were clean and had nice toiletries. The breakfast was lovey and the grounds are nice - the children really enjoyed the swing!
Some staff were lovely, others couldn’t have cared less. I really did expect a better level of service overall as I have heard a lot of good reviews.

Hotel situated in a great location. Staff cant do enough for you. Food was nice but they need to include allergie advice on their winter menu.
Room was ok for the price although we were expecting a family room as pictured on the booking. Not a double room with a pull out single bed. Room was very cold around 1-5am we all woke freezing cold as the heating had been turned off.
Overall hotel was average for £100/night with additional parking and breakfast fees.

Great hotel, rooms & food: beware of parking fees!

Great hotel & fantastic staff. Emma & George on reception were extremely helpful. Food excellent. We were in a feature room 21 which was very spacious. Beware though if you book through a booking agent instead of direct you are charged a parking fee of £12 a day, even though there is no alternative free parking & the hotel is in the middle of no where, very cheeky & basically a booking tax.

So so so close.....

Food was very good but expensive. Annoying to spend £160 on dinner for two people and then get hit with a £12 parking charge because we booked through hotels.com and not direct. It’s a bit blatant. Room was nice as you’d expect in this price range. I would reccomend this place but the parking thing just annoyed me. As I discovered the charge on checkout that’s the memory I’ll take away from the place - annoyance not the fantastic duo of fillets which was admittedly amazing

Hidden fees be careful

It's £12 a night parking when booking through hotels.com which is a shame as when you look on Google it says free guest parking. The internet is poor at best. The staff are really nice though and food is okay. The rooms are comfortable but I wouldn't say 4 star for the one we stayed in. You can hear other people in adjoining rooms so if you're a light sleeper you may struggle to get a full night's sleep. I wouldn't stay here again.

We had a lovely stay again at The Wild Boar, our 4th stay! I would recommend the hotel to others without hesitation, however we were disappointed to note a car parking charge on our bill this time of £12.
