Great location for a retirement village!

The hotel is in a lovely setting with a beautiful pool and beach, but is let down by a few things, most noticeably is how dead and empty the place is. No one in the bar (not even staff usually), no one in the restaurant, at 8pm its like a retirement village, completely empty!
The rooms are nice but could do with a bit of a refresh.

We visited this resort 10 years ago and there had been a few changes since then. They have introduced children to staying here where it used to be adults only. Also the restaurant mains were not available most nights. Limited sun beds and service around the pool and limited sun beds on the beach. Although a little disappointing the people are still warm and friendly. Our room was beautiful and we still had a great holiday.

Sinalei Reef Resort & Spa is an amazing stay. Great hospitality, beautiful location and scenery, and the Superior Ocean View Villa is a sanctuary. “Fia-Fia” show night every Wednesday is where you are treated to delicious Samoan cuisine and buffet, as well as traditional Fa’a Samoa culture, dance and song, including the exciting “Siva Afi” fire knife dance. Unfortunately, we missed the BBQ buffet held every Saturday night, but are so grateful to Sinalei for making our wedding anniversary a memorable experience. We will definitely stay again when in Samoa, fa’afetai tele lava.

A beautiful, secluded resort far from the hustle and noise of the city. Beautifully located on the shoreline of Siumu. My chalet was large and comfortable with aircon and easy access to the beach. No TV and limited wifi - which has pros and cons. Otherwise a beautiful place to stay and enjoy the beauty of Samoa.

Pros: very friendly staff (most of them were super helpful), beautiful grounds and views, great cultural day activities (ava ceremony, weaving, learning about umu), lovely spa, simple but clean fale (bedroom), really lovely pool, decent food offerings

Cons: bathroom has seen much better days (i.e. badly in need of a refresh) which is disappointing considering this resort is considered one of the best in Samoa and the price isn't cheap; in-room guide is out of date/doesn't match reality/doesn't include menus - it's frustrating especially when you first arrive and you're trying to figure out what is going on.

Sorry to say, but this place is way too overpriced for what it is. The most average resort I have stayed at. From the rooms, to the food, to the amenities, to the service, the no wifi, buildings being dirty and need a really good clean. I just think for the price you are paying you would expect a lot more. I would not stay here again unless they give this place a major shake up!

The resort was located in a beautiful setting overlooking the sea with a pier area. Kayaks and snorkel gear were available but sizes could be a problem with the swim fins. The dining area was centrally located and neatly set for each meal with a bar area next to the pool. Meals were very good, but there is little else in the area for eating away from the resort. Unfortunately because of the weather the outdoor shower was not really convenient, and the covered basin and toilet area were constantly flooded. Pool towels were often unavailable and staff were lovely but slow to respond to requests. A great place for a quiet, relaxing escape.

A gorgeous resort tucked away on the South part of the island. The villa was spacious with a breathtaking view of the ocean. The staff was gracious, friendly and made me feel at home. After reading some of the reviews I was worried about the condition of this place, but really we had a lovely stay and everything was what we needed.
I will say, that you do have to alter your expectations for what you are paying. Our four night stay was a fortnight of my salary which did make the bank account cry. And I think when paying that much you expect absolute perfection. However, people often forget you're on an island where everything needs to be imported and that takes time and money. So do not compare it to any accommodation in NZ or AU that costs $500 a night, it will probably not match those level of expectations.
However, we stayed for 3 nights initially at a 3 star resort prior to our stay here, and the quality difference is huuuge. It definitely a giant step up. the food was soo much better here, no broken windows, AC with temp control etc.
Beach was beautiful, snorkeling was fun, staff were so lovely. Pool was unfortunately getting repaired which was a massive shame because it looked lovely, but the beach is so close its not the end of the world.

My one improvement would be wifi. I know its harder on the island, but our first place had free wifi and so then coming to a place with not enough wifi extenders for everyone, and having to pay crazy amounts if you were lucky to get one was a bit of a shame.

Our stay was very short unfortunately and we had only two nights at this beautiful resort. The room was large, clean and quiet. We ate at their restaurant on both nights, and the food was excellent. The manager and the guest relation staff came to talk to us to make sure if everything met our expectations. The staff work hard to make your stay as nice as possible. My only minor complaint is that the reception staff had no idea what services I could use my Hotels.com Gold member credit for. Not a big deal, but it would have been nice to be able to use it. Otherwise no complaints and we were happy there.

This was a beautiful resort. All the staff were friendly and the grounds are gorgeous! There was a mistake on our bill but we were able to get refunded the difference. We recommend the restaurant on the beach. The chef is outstanding. Things are pricey so be prepared for additions to the bill.

This place truly is paradise- beach front resort with immaculate gardens, restaurant has been built for the perfect beach and sunset views and our spa experience was amazing.

The staff made us feel welcome from the moment we arrived, the villas are well positioned and private with a large social area around the pool area and open air bar.

Unlike other resorts around Samoa this place has been well maintained and appears to have invested owners who genuinely care about your stay there.

I personally loved the tropical gardens - variegated vines growing up tropical palms was just wow. I also enjoyed the subtle touches of vibrant flowers floating in large colourful pots around the resorts.

Free kayaks, snorkels and paddle boards available for use for guests was also provided.

Good food with great service - we could not fault our stay with this resort.

We will be back!

When we booked to stay at Sinalei we read that we could expect 'outstanding service' and we definitely recieved that from Sio and most of the restaurant staff. Unfortunately we found the reception staff to be rather unhelpful and found if you didn’t specifically ask the right question, you didnt get advice. We stayed during March and the place was pretty empty when we first checked in and we felt a little bit like we were an inconvenience with lots of things we wanted to do either not running ornnot available. We were hoping for some tips on best ways to do things but found this was lacking until we met Sio who really made our stay and holiday.

We really enjoyed our stay!
All the staff were lovely (thanks Tammy :), the resturant had fantastic food and drinks and the breakfast and afternoon tea that was catered was great. We loved all the gardens and privacy. Safe drinking water was provided by the bar which was awesome, so we didnt have to buy any water while we were there. The beach front is beautiful with sun loungers, kayaks and stand up paddle boards available for use. They have a traditional cultrual show and samoan buffet night which we unfortunately missed but it sounds amazing and the staff perform which is great because you get to know them. Highly recommend especially if you want a luxury kind of holiday.

Worst hotel management I have ever encountered

First of all, please check all my other reviews and you will see I very rarely rate someone very low. This is my worst experience ever of all the 40 countries I have been to. Expect Z-E-R-O accountability from the management of this place when things go wrong.
I made a booking for an amazingly great rate for 6 nights. Then 4 weeks later I get an email from them via the Hotels.com messaging board saying and I quote exactly: \"Hello there,
I hereby advise this booking is being Declined as the rates are not wright.\"
Now, who is responsible for posting the correct rates? Of course Sinalei is responsible for that. When do they respond to me? 4 weeks after making the reservation and paying for it. In the meantime the prices have gone up everywhere else and availability has gone down.
Did Sinalei offer an alternative a discount or a reduced rate to compensate for their stuff-up? Definitely not. I contacted them asking to at least keep three of the six nights that I initially booked for. How did Sinalei respond?? By completely ignoring my messages. Nothing, zero replies from what they claim is the #1 resort in Samoa.
What makes this worse is that this wasn't an emergency where they had to resolve the problem right away and where the manager was not available. No, this took nearly two weeks of contacting them and not getting a single reply, nothing, absolutely nothing whatsoever.
Be aware that if anything goes wrong at this place you can expect zero accountability from this resort

Sinalei was quiet, beautiful and you could happily spend the whole holiday there relaxing, enjoying the provided activities and cultural tours and singing along with the AMAZING staff band! If you want to explore, it’s within easy access to everything and the resort has vehicles to hire for a range of prices to get you where you want to go! It was a bit pricier overall than we would usually spend but we loved it and can’t recommend it highly enough!

Very beautiful location, blue sea, wonderful grounds, good size room with stunning views, just perfect for total relaxation.
Staff were lovely, very friendly and keen to help. Stand outs were Jela (reception) and Beta (bar / restaurant) ...... hope I got the names correct as they deserve a special mention.
On the downside, not major, the bathroom had a glass ceiling, which was great for light and the night sky, but so very very hot.

Sinalei is beautiful, natural and delightfully Samoan rather than a hotel-style, Western type of resort. The staff is fabulous - friendly, helpful and gorgeous. The food is exquisite. Beautiful fresh food from their village gardens, meals cooked to perfection. Breakfast and daily home-baked, delicious afternoon tea included. Would be good to have had “real coffee” on offer for the afternoon teas.
Lovely beach with good swimming at mid-high tide. The corals are only just starting to regrow and repair following the devastation of the tsunami and cyclones but we still saw fish and turtles in front of the resort. Definitely worth going to the Giant Clam Sanctuary just 15-20mins down the road to snorkel and see outstanding fish varieties, turtles, fabulous corals and of course, gigantic colourful clams!
Sinalei is close to the famous To Sua trench which is well worth visiting.
We had a beautiful 1 Brm Ocean View Villa and it was stunning. Fabulously comfortable bed!
Excellent amenities in the room.
One or two areas could do with little bit of N upgrade, but nothing too bad at all. We had a couple of chipped tiles in our bathroom, so it was minor!
The gardens and grounds are beautifully kept.
We absolutely loved our time at Sinalei.

really enjoyed our stay, the beach was great and swimable and the food was excellent. We splashed out a little by staying here, it cost more than we would normally spend, and was a bit more exclusive. We had stayed the previous year at a large chain resort that was cheaper and in good condition but really busy. So was interesting to find the guttering was rusty so when it rained, and it did a lot, we had to dodge the drips getting into our room. The white sheets werent white, nor were the towels ( especially noticed as the odd white piece of linen would occasionally pop up). The beach/pool towels were like hens teeth, never any around. The snorkelling gear would run out and was also in poor condition. In the rooms things were a little shabby, wall sockets that were loose. Lights that didnt work. A fridge that would make a clicking noise every hour. Despite all this we adapted and really enjoyed our stay. Just think would be nice to see that some money could be spent by the owners on some basic upgrades, maybe new washing machines etc

A slice of Samoan paradise

We were upgraded to the ocean view villa with a separate bedroom after Hotels.com made a booking mistake. This is an outstanding resort where you meet the local people, on a quiet and sunny side of the island. Wonderful food, lovely beach and swimming pool. Excellent choice for adults, very relaxed atmosphere in the lush gardens. Turtles swim in the bay of the resort, so you can meet wildlife in their natural habitat.

i was really disappointed with a pizza i ordered once lunch - probably the worst pizza i've had ever - the base was more bread like than pizza based - what looked like a garnish for the pizza in the centre of the pizza looked more like the size of a mini salad and the topping was lacking and pizza burnt - i ate it anyway coz i was so hungry and i didn't want to offend

Food is great (sometimes) - tends to be mercurial. Staff is very very friendly, helpful. The property is amazing! gorgeous, well-groomed. Be sure to get ocean-front view... INCREDIBLE. Does take 45mins-1 hr to drive to location. But it is worth the drive as its location is closer to Trench ((must-do)) and many waterfalls for a swim. Lovely.

Heaven on the South Coast

Sinalei Reef Resort, after only one afternoon completely exceeded all expectations, the tranquility and beauty of the hotel, fales, gardens and of course the beach and ocean.
“Don’t go in November” everyone said, “it rains all the time and is too hot” they said. Whether we were just lucky I don’t know but it was gorgeous weather and by the end of the week there had been one decent tropical rain storm not much wind and a bit of lightening and booming thunder one night which added to the atmosphere. One of my 2 companions noted that the gardens were so much more lush and healthy obviously because of the daily, but sparse showers. The resort is so stunning! and the staff in way were courteous, kind, warm and genuine (clearly the explanation that it is part of their culture to be so, is true!). I can’t stress more how wonderful I have found Samoa and Sinalei in particular. The resort was an easy shuttle from the airport and two of us had a couple of days at Tanoa in Apia, so were picked up by one of their lovely new and airconditioned transit vans there. We had an ocean view villa at Sinalei as there we were three singles giving us more than enough space, the air conditioners and ceiling fans and fridge were all super quiet. Our room was immaculately clean and with beautiful décor with a lovely view of the sea, short stroll to all resort amenities. Shout out to the lovely spa rooms right over the water. Also shout out to the chef and staff, The meals were all fabulous.

We had a wonderful time at Sinalei Reef Resort & Spa. The staff are lovely and nothing is too much trouble. The resort is set in beautiful grounds which are kept immaculate. We would definitely stay here again absolutely loved it!

Relaxing 5 day stay. Staff were uniformly friendly and responsive. No one is in a hurry here and accepting that will enhance your holiday. My room was great; I had no problems with bugs or pests.
Restaurant had a varied menu but it was a bit hit and miss on execution.
Check your receipts when you sign them for drinks/meals. I had 3 incidents of double billing. All quickly and pleasantly resolved when brought to attention but makes one wonder.
Nice stretch of sandy beach but water is shallow especially at low tide. A deep spot at the end of the pier makes for a more satisfying dip.

We absolutely LOVED our holiday and stay at
Sinalei Reef Resort & Spa. The staff were incredible, always smiling and happy to offer advice or assistance. And even on days where the weather wasn't too fantastic, it was still the perfect place to sit back and relax to read a book or chill out.

The best spot in the world.

This was our 5th trip back to Sinalei
It is just the most magical beautiful place and is truely what you imagine the most amazing tropical resort to be. We just had the most lovely time. It was so relazing and just what we needed Thank you so much to all the staff for our stay.
We will certainly be back.

Sons wedding

We were booked at the Sinalei and it truly one of the most beautiful settings we have been to. Our only complaint was we were there for our sons wedding and we had 4 room moves due to staff mix ups. Samoa really needs to train hotel staff properly as this happened at all of our accomodations.
