I absolutely cannot fault the beautiful staff at The Samoan Outrigger Hotel. They were very attentive and made my stay so enjoyable, from the lovely breakfasts to the tips and recommendations for what to do in Samoa and little chats here and there around the hotel. I had an early day trip one morning and asked if it would be possible to have a packed breakfast at 6am and the staff packed me some hard boiled eggs, crackers and a whole bunch of fruits which absolutely saved me on the ferry to Savai’i. I stayed in room 11 which had the ensuite, a mini fridge, aircon and mini patio with chairs and tables for you to seat outside and enjoy the garden. Room was cleaned everyday and though basic, had everything I needed. There is a shared kitchen and dining area for all guests just next to the pool. I really enjoyed my stay. I do want to note that the gym next door starts pumping very loud music as early as 6.30am in the morning which is not the hotel’s fault and wasn’t an issue for me as I’m an early riser but good to note that even if with the doors closed, you’d still be able to hear the music and beeping which may be an issue for guests who like to sleep in.

WARNING - DISHONEST OWNER AND FALSE ADVERTISEMENT… the description for the room says room amenities: bathroom. See the picture. When I went to check in, they insisted that it’s a shared bathroom. I ended up meeting with the owner and asked her a very simple question: why don’t you say shared bathroom if you intend it to be a shared bathroom? She refused to answer the question. The room description also states shared kitchen, but never says shared bathroom. I then showed her the picture of the description of the room where it says room amenities: bathroom and asked her why it says one of the room amenities is a bathroom and she refused to answer the question. Why say shared kitchen, but not say shared bathroom, if that’s what is honestly intended. These are bad people and I would not do business with them and I would not stay there. I left and went to another hotel, she refused to give a refund, but Expedia agreed that their description is misleading at best, and the Visa company also agreed a refund will be issued. The owner kept saying the advertisement says shared facilities, and they do have a shared kitchen for everyone, but nowhere does it say shared bathroom. The fact that she wouldn’t answer the question why she doesn’t expressly state shared bathroom but does say shared kitchen, I think tells us everything we need to know.

The rooms are basic and clean the property is an old colonial style place and Samoa fales for hire setting surrounded by a beautiful tropical garden and a pool, they serve a different breakfast each day very nice, the staff are lovely and helpful. The dining area is available for use to the guests and a communal kitchen. We often would buy food and bring it back and eat at the dining area. Felt like a true Samoan experience better one of the larger hotels. One slight negative is not safe to keep food in the communal kitchen, other than that everything else is fab, I would come back here and so would my family.

This was a beautiful and peaceful property. It’s not spotless like a resort, but it is wonderful and comfortable. The staff is phenomenal and so helpful for all your needs. They called me so many taxis and helped make sure they would come (often calling them again). I stayed in the Fale, and it’s such a cool experience. It’s definitely more like camping, but it’s unique and fun. Make sure to bring an extension cord because the power outlets are on the ceiling in the fales.

Not a 3 star hotel. More like a 1 star

We stayed here because it was closer to the hospital. The room was clean. The shared bathrooms were dirty and one of the shower locks didn't work. I was uncomfortable when I tried to enter the ladies shower and there was a man using the general sink in the small entryway. It shows it being a 3 star hotel but it was more a 1 star hotel. Different regions in the world should have different star rating charts. They have a weird policy of not wearing shoes in the place. You leave them at the front entrance. I get their point of keeping the house clean but it's so different from most hotels. It would have been ok if I had socks to wear around. I absolutely recommend inside shoes and shower shoes. The shared fridge in the kitchen was dirty as well. I don't feel comfortable leaving my food in there. The first lady that checked us in was somewhat rude but the rest of the staff were very kind and friendly. The history of the place is very interesting. I think it needs to be a museum. I wouldn't stay here again nor recommend this place taking into account the cost per night and the experience I had.

Had a fantastic time. Reception manned 24hrs and all the staff were very helpful and answered any questions we had. Breakfast was delicious, different every day including local dishes. Room was nice and cool, had a fridge to keep drinks cold and kettle to make tea or coffee. TV had a choice of channels. Room cleaned daily. Had a patio to sit outside with chairs and table. Also could sit by or swim in pool.

This was booked advance and paid for online (was only booked as many places ian Apia were already fully booked) for the weekend for my mum. When they got there, they checked in and paid 50 tala for the key deposit which was fine but upon check out, they were told that they had to pay an extra 75 tala as the booking was now 500 tala per night! My mum did not pay but it was like they were trying to get extra money out of her when that price was not advertised online. Does not leave a great taste.

Good restaurants very close by and convenience stores. Staff were very friendly, especially the lady who was on night shift and waited with me for my airport transfer at 4am. Recommend seeking assistance from reception to book transfer to airport as you will probably get far better price and service than I did booking it myself.

Overall, a beautiful, quaint motel with a colonial style lobby. It's more like a motel than a hotel. Rooms were clean and had the basics I needed so it sufficed for my needs. Kitchen was open and accessible to anyone if you needed it. Staff were super friendly and helpful. Cable/TV channels were VERY limited, but makes for a great excuse to get outdoors which is where the real beauty is anyway. There were no sidewalks if you try to walk from the motel to anywhere nearby but its safe enough on the side of the street, just stay clear of traffic and not at night time. Taxi transportation was nearby and service was quick. The Outrigger was close enough to the town area to find some great things to do and places to eat. My only disappointment was that there was no hot water in our room. We had hot water only on our first day there then I guess they turn it off at some point. Staff are super friendly and helpful. Continental breakfast could be better as portions are way too small and I really like to dish my own food. I give it 5 stars for customer service, cleanliness and convenience!

lovely property right in the main town. Great spot if you need to stopover before the airport. Well maintained, lovely staff who were so helpful to me when I showed up in Samoa with very little planned, good price. Only thing I would note is I stayed in a fale which was very comfortable but I made the rookie mistake of not bringing bug spray and despite the mosquito net, got bit quite a bit (mosquitos love me). Be mindful of having bug spray if you're staying in the outdoor accommodation.

Stayed 3 nights in a fale on arrival in Samoa, unfortunately during a heatwave that had the locals gasping. Sleeping was difficult with a fan that was fixed in position - for comfort it would be great to be able to direct it on the bed. The pool saved me! But apart from hot nights a lovely place and the staff took really good care of me. Recommended any time it's not stinking hot!

Wouldn’t recommend for families especially if looking to book the traditional Fale. Location of property isn’t far from town so easy to find. I was booked to stay 2 nights but unfortunately only stayed one night given how noisy and uncomfortable the bedding was. Don’t take huge suitcases as the only access to the fales are steep stairs. Budget hotel so you pay for what you get. Very noisy due to local dogs who barked nonstop for hours. Shared bathroom facilities which were quite dated. Simply a bed to rest on and nothing else.

We had a mixed experience and would prefer other hotels if we return to Apia.

If you need a quiet place you might want to consider booking another hotel, the street corner Outrigger is located, is very (very!) busy, even during the night.

Breakfast is served (no buffet). When you ask for some more toast with butter and jam, then you get a tiny bit of butter and a teaspoon of jam - it really felt odd, appeared like they ran out of butter and jam.

The pool and garden are nice indeed.

We did not feel that the staff was going above and beyond: Any question or ask \"out of the ordinary hotel related\", they just shrugged their shoulders.

The 24/7 reception desk sounds good, but when we arrived at the hotel at about 10.30 pm, the receptionist was sleeping on the sofa.

For what they offer I believe they are overpriced. You will find better deals.

Keep in mind: Private restaurants have closed on Sundays!

The staff were welcoming and friendly. It is a budget hotel so I didn’t have high expectations. Clearly the room hadn’t been used for a while so in a high humidity climate, things are going to be damp. The bed was damp and there was an overwhelming musty smell. I discovered it was the cushions and pillows that were causing it so took them out of the room and it smelt better. After the air conditioning had been on for a while the bed had dried out a bit for the second night. There was a kettle in the room and it had been treated with some kind of disinfectant. Even after boiling some spring water in it several times and throwing it out, my tea still tasted of it. The room was clean and the breakfast was nice.

The staff are so friendly and helpful in every way and make you feel at home.
Our room was very spacious and we had everything we needed including a fan which we left on overnight.
The pool is great to come home to after a day of seeing the sights around the island.
Breakfast is delicious. The kitchen has everything you need to cook a meal, but there are lots of great restaurants in close walking distance.
This is a great place to base yourself if you’re interested in trekking around the island sightseeing or want to be close to Apia.

Close to town, safe in the fale could be on a different side so you can easily walk to the deck, some mini fans in the fale would also be great as it does get quite hot. The staff is super friendly and breakfast was delicious. Overall a great budget accommodation.

We picked the Outrigger Hotel for no particular reason but it turned out to be a great decision. On arrival we warmly welcomed and shown to our Fales. The Fale was very comfortable and you enjoy all the facilities of the hotel but they are outdoor accommodation. Despite the mosquito net I was molested the first night by the little so and so's. Next morning I asked for an up grade to a regular room this was no problem to ever helpful staff and I was given a nice air conditioned room. We were there for 4 nights and enjoyed our stay. We also hired a car from the hotel to explore the island which is a tropical paradise no wonder Robert Louis Stephenson chose to live there.

Big house w pool,feels like family home

Nice big house, few fales in the garden nice pool N breakfast.
Glad to have 2 fans in the room, very hot in them..
Barking dogs all night at the streets but otherwise pretty quiet.
Handy supermarket next door for you to cook like a backpackers :) or buy cheap bears
Thats a bonus.

This place is not close to the beach, don't book it if u want a beach holiday. Close to 2 good restaurants. Noisy gym and useful market just cross the road. We end up cancel 3 nights and hire a taxi and drove to a place on the beach, 50 minutes drive. Generally not a bad place for budget travelers. Have cooking facilities and nice little pool in the garden. We stayed in the fale, unique experience.

The friendliest hotel I've stayed in

The Samoan Outrigger Hotel was a treasure. I'm so glad we chose to stay here. We spent a few nights in the fales for the experience, then moved into rooms for the rest of our stay. The breakfast was a lovely way to start the day and the pool was a cool refresher at the end of the day. It was lovely to sit outside in the cool of the evening and chat with other guests.

Good budget accommodation

Our first trip to Samoa and we choose the Outrigger after a lot of searching similar accommodation. We had a look at similar nearby properties whilst there, but they didn't have the lovely big garden area and big pool. The pool and grounds were well maintained, including a lovely little cat called 'Ricky Baker'. The hotel is adjacent to a gym and their classes were noisy, sometimes starting at 6.45 am, and through the day making a sleep in, or afternoon rest difficult. The room was clean, and we had an en suite, though none of the usual shampoo and conditioner, or hand lotions were provided. The internet is really expensive at the hotel, so get a free Blue Sky card at the airport, or at various locations (5 Tala for 5 days, versus 25 Tala at the hotel for 2 hours). The room we had had a damaged sliding door making it really difficult to open and close as the sliding wheel mechanism was worn (this was mentioned in the review we were given to be filled in as we were leaving). The air conditioning was efficient and adequate to our needs. Being in a downstairs room meant a lot of noise at times from the upstairs guests walking on the wooden floors.

Great Budget Hotel

Nice friendly place. Good breakfast, close to town. This is a great cheap small hotel that has a family feel to it. The pool was very nice after a day out in Samoa. You can't help but meet fellow travellers at breakfast each morning which was neat.

This hotel is a little out of town but there is a grocery store & cafe within 5 minutes walk. The rooms are very clean but basic. We were looking forward to swimming in the pool however it was very cloudy either requiring chlorine or just been treated. The pool is very old and in poor condition. The positive about this hotel is the helpful staff. Would not recommend it

Great budget accommodation close to central Apia.

I enjoyed staying at the Outrigger. Staff are friendly and helpful, great security and I met some lovely fellow travellers.
