Unfortunately we were only met with frustration/dissatisfaction and mostly disappointment Our room didn’t have hot water, we mentioned this everyday and only got it for one day which was the second day we stayed that was the best shower until we got back at the end to shower again and until every other day was just too cold hot water wasn’t working. After being out all day you just want to enjoy some hot water after coming back during the night. The shower also clogged up we mentioned this a couple times and we were told on the 3rd day by a staff member we were turning it on wrong I mean how should we know, my partner isn’t Samoan so by far this wasn’t good for him. Due to this we left the hotel after we couldn’t handle it no more. we didn’t ask for a refund for our last 2 nights we stayed there and there was just no other option besides the apologies from other staff members just had enough. Disappointed! Room 17 do not stay here. A few staff were lovely including the supervisor who’s Fijian and a couple who were hotel staff otherwise I wouldn’t recommend anyone to stay there X

My family and I stayed at Orator Hotel in Villa 5, which sleeps four. The villa was nice and comfortable, and we appreciated the peaceful atmosphere. The staff were lovely, especially Joseph, whose friendliness really stood out.
However, several issues made our stay disappointing. The bathroom needs attention — the shower was either extremely hot or freezing cold with no in-between, and the water pressure was very poor.
Breakfast was nice, but for the first three days we had no idea that eggs could be cooked to order. Staff didn’t mention it, and there was no sign displayed. We only found out from another guest, and were later told a sign should have been there.
We had lunch at the hotel during the first couple of days but didn’t return after waiting nearly two hours each time for our food. We later learned the delay was because staff were preparing a private buffet for the owner and their friends while paying guests were left waiting. That felt rude and unfair.
The place also needs major refurbishing and maintenance. The pool had missing and loose tiles, which is hazardous. My brother even had to move rooms due to a leaking ceiling. There are also what feels like a thousand pot plants everywhere, making the space look cluttered and overwhelming.
Overall, it was a hit-and-miss experience, and we would not return or recommend it to family and friends. Sorry Orator but you need to do better!!!

The hotel was great for us overall, though it could use a bit of a refresh as it’s starting to feel a little dated. The bed was extremely comfortable, and the swimming pool, conveniently located right outside our villa, was a highlight of our stay. This hotel was truly amazing when it first opened, and we would love to see it restored with some updates to bring it back to its full potential.

As soon as you drive into the property it looked deserted and old. Mostly everything was outdated. Our room was ok apart from the sliding door being hard to pull open. Beds were ok too. The room needed to be renewed or renovated cause it looked too old fashion especially the bathroom. We didn’t use the pool cause of how ugly and old it looked and there was another pool that was emptied and very deep so that was a big safety hazard especially if you have kids. Their deck needed to be fixed cause it was broken, falling apart and unsafe too. The breakfast was probably the best part of our stay. We checked out an hour late and got charged an extra 240 tala only to check in at taumeasina that same day just to find out that taumeasina only charges 50 tala for every hour you’re late for checkout so we realised how ridiculous it was to be charged 240 at the orator. A big rip off!! Overall I would say don’t bother paying to stay here when you can stay somewhere else for the exact same price but in better conditions. Overpriced and overrated. This hotel used to be one of my favourites back then but they seriously have lost their touch

Loved our stay at the Orator. The staff were so kind. Our dinner was delivered to our room. The breakfasts were great too. The staff were so helpful, as we had left some belongings in our taxi, and they put extra effort into assisting us.
As for the property itself, its beautiful. However, it does need some TLC. Apart from that, it was a lovely stay!

The entrance and reception area of the hotel was impressive but as you walked into the property, the walkways were in need of repair, the rooms were tired and the most disappointing of all was that the swimming pools were out of order and had been for some time (water was green, unlike the pictures on Expedia). The surrounding gardens were nice though and the staff were really nice and tried their best to make us welcome. The food was better than expected, with buffet breakfast included.

It should be made clear that our issue is less about the property and more to do with Expedia disingenuous advertising of its current amenities status. We understand and believe that the property owners have articulated to Expedia to update their profile accordingly, and Expedia have failed to do this. The property owners graciously gave us a full cash refund of what they received from Expedia - and I will be pursuing Expedia to return the commission they receive to me as well. I do not believe Orator was at fault, I believe Expedia was.

The place DEFINITELY DID NOT look like what was advertised online. The place as a whole looked very run down despite the fact that we saw many staff onsite. There were ants all over our room especially in the shower/bathroom area. We found a dead cockroach on the floor of our shower. It felt unsanitary to stay there and from the moment we walked through our room door, there was a foul smell that lingered for the duration of our 5 night stay.

I will say this.. the staff is the definition of Customer Service!

We were treated with the utmost respect and care that is not normal from where im from, sadly. So amazing work to all staff!

When we checked in we were greated with fresh orange juice and had two staff members carry all our luggage to our Villa. The room was just right for me and my family consisting of 4 others.

Free breakfast everyday, I enjoyed the daily change up of the warm foods! We ordered food from the resturant and like others was not happy at all about the waiting time as being served almost an hour after ordering is \"normal\".. great food nonetheless!

My daughter had a little mishap that required attention from staff and they attended and went above and beyond to make her feel better - even going as far as buying her a gift and giving us as a family of 5 a free lunch voucher - so damn amazing to the team for that!

All in all, we enjoyed our time here. When we do visit Samoa again were set to stay again solely because of the Customer Service provided!

Keep it up guys, you all are doing a great job. Thank you for having us - The Columbo Family.

Beautiful setting, gardens and location. Pool very nice but needs a paint & was missing a ladder in the main part to get yourself out..? not sure why. Clean and tidy, fales very comfortable, gardens and planting lovely but some things a little bit random, like the pots etc and lacked a bit of style direction. The lobby had big high tables next to the low couches, big strange. good price. the breakfast offered could be to a much better standard. Nicer presentation of food, the table was not laid out very well, it just was'nt fit for purpose and the crockery/cutlery needs updating, selection was a big average, but you pay for what you get I suppose. The staff were super friendly and helpful! We ate at other places a lot but the couple of times we got bar food it was super super yummy so good job team.

One Night Too Long in Apia

The lobby is beautifully presented as are the grounds (although they could have turned on the ceiling fans in the lobby). The carpark is pretty rough though. The staff are very welcoming and friendly. My room had both A/C and a ceiling fan but not all rooms had both, I noticed. The room did not have a key which was a bit of a worry, but they said they'd get one from the cleaning staff, but it never appeared. The water pressure in my room was great - no hot water water. Friends next door had no pressure but hot water! I had to send a fried chicken meal back to the kitchen as some pieces of chicken were poorly cooked. They offered to cook it again but did not offer to delete it from the bill. There was a curtain miss from the full-length window beside my bed.
Wifi wasn't cheap either.
Great pools!

The hotel is in need of some renovation around the pool and dining area and the rooms need proper maintenance work, not just temporary fixes. It is in a peaceful setting, the rooms are good size, the staff are friendly, and the food is good, although breakfast fairly average. If the owners give the place a bit of a facelift then you could say it is a value for money hotel.

Checking in was no problem. The girl at the front desk was very polite and prompt. I was checked in in about 10 minutes. She even walked to our room to turn on our ac. The room was clean. But when we got there, we had no curtains in front. No problem because we had to drop off a family member and asked that they hang them while we were gone. Which they did. We came back and relaxed. The porch has beautiful gardens in the front but make sure you have mosquito repellent if you’re not used to them. The room was very clean. Fully stocked. Huge bathroom but it’s not a complete door so people in the room can hear what’s going on in the bathroom. The tv was not working but someone came out to fix it later in the evening. The pool is nice. But i cut my foot on it. The floor is pretty rough and looks like it needs some tlc. Parts of it were worn down to brown. So if you see brown spots in the pool, it’s not dirty. The breakfast buffet was very limited. Only cereal, fruits, toast, muffins and they ask you how you want your eggs. And then of course coffee and juice. We ordered room service and I went down to order for it to be delivered. They called and told me that one of the items I ordered wasn’t available so instead of refunding us, we had to order stuff to make up the amount of the item not available. When we left the next morning, housekeeping came and cleaned our room, against our wishes which I thought was odd. They charged me for a wet bed and stained pillowcases upon check out

Very nice hotel experience. The Orator looks like it was once a 5 star resort but is a bit dated now - the swimming pool tiles have started to come away and it doesn't quite look like the pictures anymore but it's still very nice, probably a 3.5 - 4 star these days. The staff are friendly and helpful, beds super comfortable and it's nice and close to Apia. Great breakfast :)
The only real downside is the shower, it was either boiling hot or cold, nothing in between. Not a big deal as a cold shower is quite nice in Samoa, but would've been nice to have a slightly warm one sometimes.

Room for improvement!

Customer service was NOT great! Tea/Coffee making area should be made available for guests to make a 'cuppa' when they want to rather than having to wait for a slow waiter to get one for you.
The room was poorly serviced. The bathroom shampoo and conditioner and soaps were not replenished each day; especially given there were a few of us in one room - they didn't cater to the number of guests.
The toilet had not been cleaned since the day we checked in which I expected to be cleaned daily as part of the cleaning service. We had to ask for the right amount of towels for the amount of people in our room which is something they should have already sorted out based on the reservation made.
Beach/Pool towels were not readily available to guests and again we had to ask for them.
They did not promote their dinners at all - in fact there no promotions of anything at all. They could have sold some dinner reservations or room service meals if they had put some effort into promoting it; or promoted tourism within Upolu if they knew the tourist attractions in the area etc. Lots of missed opportunities to sell and promote products and services for the hotel as well as local businesses etc.
They had a chalk board advertising the spa but again, there was no push or sell.
We ordered food by the pool and there were cats eating our food when we went for a swim. There shouldn't be any animals allowed in hotels unless on a leash and with their owner..not hygienic at all.

We made two reservations on Expedia for this hotel. The first one we booked for TONIGHT which happened to be a day earlier than the current date so we lost one of our nights. This cost us 125.00. Then we made a second room reservation for the following night and the site said 110.00 per night when we paid for the reservation it changed to 220.00 and confirmed the reservation without being able to cancel the charge. We wound up not using any of these reservations because the hotel was over an hour drive for our crew arriving late in the evening after flying a 10 hour delivery flight of a small aircraft to Faleolo. So we basically wasted 500.00. The hotel chose not to honor the first night date switch. Too bad. We rated the hotel neutral as we did not actually stay there

Nice hotel overall, close to town and nearby natural sights. Very peaceful, private and reasonable overall costs.

We rate the free breakfast as very good, dinner menu and food was not so good and the pupu was oily and should not be served at all.

The whole staff were beyond awesome; friendly, attentive and always welcoming,,,,,bravo to them.

Thanks and keep it up Orator owners/management cos we're coming back.

Beautiful grounds.

When you enter the Orator the staff is very welcoming and the grounds beautiful. However, some of the furniture in the room was a bit tired and the lighting poor. The pool area was clean, but many of the lounge chairs were falling apart and for some reason, graffiti on pool tiles. Stray dogs are an issue in Samoa and there were two friendly ones hanging around when we were there. Since the custom of the country is to kick your shoes off before entering a residence we did so at the hotel to our free standing falle. In the morning a pair of brand new sandals were missing. The staff found them, but they were chewed up by the dogs. The hotel didn't offer to compensate us for the ruined shoes. We didn't mind the dogs, but felt that the staff should have warned us about keeping shoes inside. The restaurant was just ok.

Nice facility but................

We had to change rooms halfway through our stay as there was a problem with the air-conditioner. All good, they didn't have control over that, but the room we were given was much smaller and the deck had no furniture so we feel a bit cheated. We did get a meal voucher (to be used at the Orator) as an apology for the inconvenience but it was given on our last evening & we had trouble using it. They had a private function on our last night so all the guests were relegated to an alternate dining area & the service was almost non-existent. If we had been notified about this we could have made other arrangements. The music could be heard from our room, which was a little inconvenient.

The food was nice, the rooms service great, we enjoyed the pool & the staff were friendly although we did have a couple of occasions where our requests were misunderstood.

Well-kept hotel and convenient location

Our stay at the Orator was very pleasant and we found it to be a convenient drive to downtown Apia. It is up a little higher in the countryside so it also feels a little cooler up there. We found the hotel staff to be very helpful and everything was very clean and well-kept. It is very quiet but still a short drive to the hustle and bustle of downtown Apia.

Disappointing

There are nicer places to stay - DONT STAY HERE.

Breakfast was terrible, no bacon, poorly cooked eggs, if you got eggs and vegemite that expired in Aug 2014. They serve you fried rice, fish stew and stir fry for breakfast!! They cannot cook eggs.
Dogs and cats roam freely and pester you whilst you eat begging for food ir when you are trying to relax by the pool. The staff are lazy, smile rarely and spend more time talking to each other rather than doing their job. Poor Management is to blame.
The music played whilst eating at meal times was too loud and songs we can listen to back home, I would have preferred some Samoan music whilst I was holidaying! The pool is in desperate need if repair, my kids ended up with scratches and cuts. The pool area isn't cleaned properly and tables have cigarette ash on them and the floor boards were worse. The place is a smokers paradise! This place has potential but unfortunately no idea how to provide good service.

Coconuts is a truly unique Samoan Beach Resort, with distinctive design features, world-class facilities, and an incomparably relaxing environment. Built of local materials by Samoan craftsmen, the resort is perfectly situated to harmonize with its environmental and cultural surroundings, and offer guests the true flavour of Samoa.

There are many resort activities on offer, including village and island tours, scuba diving (by arrangement), surfing guides, snorkelling, kayaking, boating in traditional Samoan "paopao" outrigger canoes, and excursions into the adjacent mangrove estuary. For those who wish to simply relax, there are sandy beaches and the wonderful gecko shaped swimming pool.

The beach-side restaurant and bar offers what several magazine and guestbooks boast as the best dining experience on the island. But more important are the unexpected opportunities: a stroll through the village with a staff member, a cup of cocoa with a new friend in their traditional Samoan home without walls, spending time with the local villagers and learning about their fascinating culture - experiences you simply don't get elsewhere.

Coconuts offers everything you expect in a boutique resort - intimate scale, personalized service, full spa facilities - and all in a setting of white sand beaches and turquoise lagoons as beautiful as you can imagine. Coconuts truly is Samoa.
