Staff were pleasant and helpful. My single room was clean, though quite basic and lacking a comfortable chair (as opposed to the desk chair). Very warm with lots of hot water. Slightly shabby net curtains. Common parts (stairs and corridors) in need of refurbishment. Principle reason for staying here is the location is convenient for me

The location if staying in Sherborne couldn't be much better. The rooms are pretty basic but they are clean and functional so if your expectations are high in this respect then maybe look elsewhere. Staff all seemed pretty friendly & the bar & drinks were okay - didn't eat there so can't comment.

Good location in centre of Sherborne. Very reasonably priced room and the staff are friendly and helpful. The pub has a car park and is also just 5/10 minutes walk from station. The delightful Sherborne abbey is just a very short walk from the inn and there are numerous restaurants nearby. The room was very comfortable although there was occasional noise from the bar downstairs or outside tables. The Abbey is close by and the clock chimes might bother some. The food onsite is good whether you require breakfast or a meal. The room was well equipped and it suited me as a solo traveller very well.

Clean, with all basic amenities. Good parking which is very handy for looking around the town, and free for guests. Wi-fi worked ok. Shower a bit weak but adequate. Huge bed, which was nice but made it a squeeze to get into room. Staff friendly. Pub has pool, big screen TVs, cheap food - very busy in evening, which won’t suit everyone but not a problem for us.

Bed was comfortable and room was warm.
Unfortunately, had booked in for a meal on the first night which happened to be Valentine's night and trying to order via the app showed the majority of what we chose to eat being unavailable! Not great for a Friday night, especially Valentine's not even fish and chips. Ended up ordering at the bar where we could ask what food actually was available!

We knew we were booking a room above a pub to break up a long drive from Sussex to Cornwall, but it felt like we were staying at a house party. The other guests were loud, there are no soft close doors, the double glazing isn’t effective. We were hoping that once the pub had shut we (and our 5 year old) would get some sleep but we even considered leaving- this is down to the doors and the other guests though. The people above us were noisy, I could hear the guy in room 10 yawning and their TV (to give you an idea of how much you can hear).
What was a real shame, and completely manageable by the hotel group was the fact that the room wasn’t clean. There were hairs in the bathroom including the remnants of someone’s shave around the sink- the carpet had bits all over it that a hoover would have easily worked wonders on, and we wouldn’t use the cups as they weren’t clean (brown marks, not generally wear and tear tea/coffee stain). I don’t like leaving negative reviews, but this isn’t the place to stay unless you are a very deep sleeper who isn’t phased by other people’s body hairs and unwashed cups etc. I’m not fussy about much but we didn’t even want our 5 year old rolling around on the floor.

A Memorable Day at Pack Monday in Sherborne

On Monday, 14th October 2024, my family and friends and I had the pleasure of attending Pack Monday in the picturesque town of Sherborne, Dorset. This annual event, steeped in tradition and local culture, offered us a delightful mix of historical charm and vibrant community spirit.

Our stay at the “Half Moon Inn” added to the magic. The inn, with its historical charm and comfortable ambiance, was the perfect retreat after a day of exploration. The hospitality was fantastic, with friendly staff who made us feel right at home. Special thanks to Craig and Zophia, whose exceptional service and warm personalities stood out, making our stay even more memorable.

Craig greeted us warmly upon arrival, even going out of his way to get us an ironing board and iron. His friendly personality truly made us feel at home. Zophia was equally welcoming, adding to the overall fantastic hospitality.

The bedroom was cozy and well-appointed, ensuring a restful night.

A significant highlight of our visit was the massive Pack Monday Market. The market stalls lined the streets from Sherborne train station, up Cheap Street, and extended through all the side roads. Vendors offered an array of goods, from local produce and handmade crafts to delicious street food and unique antiques. The vibrant market was a bustling hub of activity, reflecting the festive spirit of Pack Monday and providing something for everyone to enjoy.

My room had not been cleaned and serviced at all when I was given the key. After apologies I was \"upgraded\" to their \"best\" room. On entering that room, yes the bed had been made and the bedroom serviced, but the bathroom had the dirty soaking wet towels from the previous guests piled on the floor, and no new towels in sight. More apologies and towels removed and replaced.
Whilst the bedroom was relatively clean, the bathroom was a horror! There was mould all over the ceiling at shower end of the room and it had an overall feeling of tired and dingy.
We didn't eat in the Inn because of concerns over hygiene standards (bad bedroom/bathroom experience) but did have a pint of ale at the bar. Not impressed with that either.
Finally to top it off, we had a taxi arranged to collect our luggage after we had left (cycling) but the hotel staff forgot to give the taxi driver one of our bags, which resulted in us having to make a 2 hour round trip to pick it up the next day.
We will NOT be visiting the Half Moon again!

We stayed on a Saturday night in a room directly overlooking the street at the front. That was unfortunate - it seems the area outside the Half Moon is the social centre of Sherborner! it was very loud until about midnight which didn't help when were trying to get to sleep.

Stayed just one night, also had drinks at the pub, easy access to Sherborne town centre, wheres plenty of shops, bars, cafes,Restaurants. Free parking if you are staying in hotel, for 24 hours. Register your car at reception. Had bath&shower which im happy to have. Clean,and very white bedding and towels, hangers, tea making facilities. . Comfortable bed. Staff i came into contact with were very nice. Would stay again next time im visiting friends in Sherborne.

This is a very old building, quaint and just across the road from Sherborne Abbey. There is on-site parking (which I didn't use) and it is about 7 minutes walk from the station (which I did use). It is right in the town centre, which is a delight to explore, with a number of good restaurants nearby.

Good central location and easy parking, just ignore ticket machines and give reception staff your car reg upon arrival.

Friendly staff and cooked breakfast very good.Also had a dinner in one night, reasonably priced and a range of menu choices.

Bed in our room very comfy, but rooms and decor looking a bit tired. Plumbing probably needs a bit of attention as our sink drained very slowly (reported) and toilet seat needs changing for one that's the correct size.

Overall, a pleasant short stay.

I experienced a faultless stay at the Half Moon.

From the warm welcome to the fond farewell this was a stay that I will remember for all the right reasons.

The room was very well appointed and a comfortable place to stay which was spotlessly clean, in great decorative order and well maintained.

The bed was very comfy with crisp, clean linen, there was a modern, large smart television, superb Wi-Fi and a nice place to sit and work.

The large bathroom was also spotlessly clean and benefitted from fluffy towels.

Noise was not an issue for me, some might find the creaky floorboards an irritant.

Did not have the opportunity to eat or drink in the pub but it seemed very welcoming and good value.

Overall a superb stay and highly recommend to others.

I have stayed at the Half Moon many times. On the last 3 times I have not been able to park in the hotel car park because all the spaces are taken by shoppers. The only alternative is to go to the public car park which is about 500m away, pay £10 and carry luggage back and forth. I don’t understand why Marstons cannot allocate spaces for their hotel customers - the adjacent hotel has allocated spaces. The hotel should not advertise free parking when it is not available.

Comfortable, convenient single room, clean spacious bathroom for 2-night weekend stay. Not well sound insulated so conversations in the next room and the corridor rather too audible. Music from the bar stopped around 11pm so no problem. Room service was a bit haphazard - cups not properly cleaned, bed not properly made, but the location in the centre of Sherborne suited me, and I would be prepared to stay there again.

I was not impressed. The whole place needs updating. We had a blocked sink which was not attended too having reported it. There is a horrible stain in the bath and the toilet needed bleaching as it was badly stained! It was grubby! Stains all round.
In there favour the beds were comfortable and clean also the towels were clean.
There was a shortage of toilet roll.
The breakfast was enjoyable!
The hotel was noisy!
We won’t be back.

First time staying at the Half Moon, having stayed at several other B&Bs in Sherborne over the past few years. Check-in was quick and friendly. Double room was small, basic and tired (NB website photos are realistic!) - so a little disappointing. That said, it seemed clean and we had hot water and good water pressure in the shower.
