Unfortunately, the weather had turned very cold and the central heating in room No.3 was playing up, when arriving the room was chilly, however, after adjusting the radiator thermostats it was ok. The following morning the rad in the bathroom was cold and I couldn't get it to come on, I told the reception and on returning later that day it was working ok. The following morning there was no heating at all and it was freezing, I told reception and her response was this is usually the warmest room, which did not impress me.

Would like to see double glazing on the windows as right by a road. However this isn’ta problem at night as very quiet and peaceful.
The room was exceptional with vaulted beams and chandeliers.
A lovely bathroom with pleasant toiletries but the shower shelf on the edge of the bath needs attention as it is worn and needs repainting.
Overall a lovely experience.

We had a delightful stay at The Crown - the dinner menu & food in the pub was fantastic, the chickens on site in the pub garden entertained our little boys, the room was huge, comfortable and spotlessly clean with lovely touches such as milk and cold water in the fridge, a fan to keep us all cool (was a very hot day and night!), bath salts and excellent toiletries.
The only negatives were overcooked poached eggs at breakfast, the fast road right outside being rather loud, and the TV Freeview was tricky to work and had a very slow remote which didn’t help.
Overall we were very happy with our stay.

Stayed at the Crown many times now and always love coming back. Staff are excellent and very friendly, food is always of a high standard and great beers (and gin) in the pub. Warm cosy atmosphere and very welcoming, with comfortable rooms. My idea of a proper county pub. We will be back again soon.

The pub is historic and features in Tess of the D’Urbevilles by Thomas Hardy: ‘ The Pure Drop’, nice beer garden. Good menu for lunch, evening and breakfast. Comfortable room and bed. Large wet room room suitable for disabled people. Unfortunately Room 7 was downstairs on the road side of the pub, so lots of traffic noise on busy road early in the morning despite additional glazing.

We stayed in a large family room (there were 4 of us) and it was plenty big enough for our needs. A double bed, a single bed, and sofa bed plus another sofa. TV, tea/coffee making facilities, bottled water and a fridge (not stocked), a good size bathroom with a shower in the bath. The room was clean and met our expectations.
The pub was nice, with all the measures in place that you would expect at this time, one door in and one door out, hand sanitiser, no queueing or drinking at the bar and laminated menus (all regularly cleaned) with distancing stickers in place in case you forgot.
A good selection of drinks and food which was all very good, especially the breakfasts which was ordered from a menu the night before. We liked the fact there was a good selection of meals on the menu that you could have as a ‘light bite’.

A warm welcome when we arrived and easy to see why this is so popular. Our room was large with fridge, wardrobe, tv, chairs, table and ensuite with roll top bath and shower. Cosy decor comfortable bed and clean throughout.

Beautiful family room, very clean. Lots of hand sanitizer stations around the building. It was difficult to socially distance in the breakfast room due to its size but the breakfast was lovely! Only little criticism was we had an evening meal there in the garden (again a beautiful space) but the calamari was disgusting and my daughters sweet corn was shrivelled and white, shame as all the other meals were ok.

The room booked was ok but very warm so needed to keep the window open which we did not have a problem with apart from the road directly outside was very noisy at night and early in the morning(so not good if you are a light sleeper as I am).

We had a lovely stay at The Crown. Monty and his staff were friendly and helpful. The food was wonderful and plenty of it, probably ate too much but then how can you resist good food.
