The hotel was very clean however we had some concerns with the air conditioning being very low in the room but despite asking 3 times to have someone look at it to let us know if this is normal they didn't follow up with us on this which left me feeling very unvalued.

If you want to visit the island of San Miguel this is an excellent option. The hotel is not brand new but it is very nice, lovely ocean view, quiet and rooms are very spacious and bright. Staff is extremely friendly. Hotel is well located for all key spots in San Miguel but you do need a car to get around. The beach at the hotel is very nice.

The location is lovely but I do not think I will stay there when I return to the Azores. The last night I was there I found small ants in the bed. I was not happy with the attitude of some of the front desk staff and although when I spoke up the management did apologize, it still left a sour taste in my mouth. The view was spectacular but there is no coffee making provisions in the rooms. One must pay 7 euros a day for a hot water machine. I do not think this rates a for star rating.

Incredibly beautiful. Unbeatable views. Did have some issues with the room (TV remote didn’t work which had all of the amenities listed and the phone also didn’t work well - didn’t get the best assistance with that) but otherwise the staff are incredible and so helpful. Would definitely come back.

Only downside is the food is buffet and supper was expensive for a buffet where we didn’t eat much of anything. Lots of restaurants close by if you have a car. Air conditioner wasn’t working. I would still stay again, staff, room size and location!

Truly a wonderful holiday! The hotel was quiet and relaxed and in a beautiful location. We loved listening to the sound of the waves as we went to sleep. The hotel staff were fantastic- they were always ready to help and were so kind and welcoming. The beach was a lot of fun to play in, and the bistro next door also had really good food.

Very outdated for the nightly price. Only one elevator was put in use maybe trying to save on electricity. Overpriced beverages and be prepared to pay €4.5 for a small bottle of water or Coca Cola. Also, very outdated air conditioning system. Nights were very hot in the room although the AC was running for 24 hours nonstop.

The \"vintage\" air conditioning (staff words, not mine) could not keep the room at a reasonable temperature during the August heat, even with the windows and doors closed and curtains pulled shut obstructing the beautiful view. They did not have enough fans to offer guests on days when the air conditioner failed.
The \"adult only\" pool was underfilled and had algae floating all in the water.
Other than that, it is a nice facility with stunning views and the main pool is very well maintained. The room was a wonderful size. The food was palatable.

We were initially given an accessible room without a decent view - we asked to be moved to a sea view room and had to pay extra for a different room type. However the room was good when we moved. Food was not good at all - all buffet service but not replenished regularly and not of good quality- this applied to both breakfast and dinner.

The hotel is in real a good 3 star beach hotel NOT 4 star. UNFORTUNATELY the price is like a luxury 5 star hotel.

For a junior suite we paid 534 per night and we had in the room just towels and shampoo. There is not any coffee mashine or a device to warm water, there are not slipers or bathrobe.
Breakfast and dinner are OK but nothing to make you feel they appreciate you as a customer.
I wouldn't be back with these money perhaps in maximum 180 euros.

The hotel is off by itself - need to drive to get anywhere. The shoreline, nature are beautiful. There is a beach a few minutes walk away as well as pools; we didn't swim since it was a little chilly in late June.
Parking can get a little tight, so cars are lining every road on the property - make sure you are comfortable parking in tight spaces.

Hotel is on a gorgeous piece of property overlooking the ocean with easy walking access to beach with lifeguards and a small restaurant. Hotel rooms are large. However, hotel itself is very dated and is in need of updating (everything from furniture in lobby to fixtures in rooms to gym). Not a 4 star hotel as described.

The only area the hotel didn’t meet my expectations was in the food. Breakfast is okay… same exact breakfast every day. A couple of days fruit tasted funny… I dinned once at hotel, did not enjoyed the buffet. On the bright side, great restaurants within 20 to 25 minutes driving distance. Overall, I enjoyed my stayed. As I said, food wasn’t great, but everything else and everyone in the hotel were excellent!

One of the best hotel experiences of my life
This hotel exceeded my expectations in every way. It was the type of hotel experience one wants on vacation. When you see the pictures of this place on the App/website a daydream about your upcoming vacation, the reality is way beyond what you can imagine. The grounds are well kept, the view of the ocean and the surrounding landscape are amazing. It is a great sanctuary and base camp for adventures on the island. 20 minutes from Ponta Delgada, 25 minutes from Furnas, 30 minutes from Ribeira Grande, and roughly 60 minutes from Sete Cidades. Breakfast was great, they had everything. Spa, gym, rentals, and a nice cocktail bar. I can’t wait to come back.

This is an excellent hotel. We were upgraded to a junior suite which was roomy and well laid out. The bathroom was the best hotel bathroom I've seen in decades -- enough counter space, 2 sinks, things arranged in sensible ways (I'm convinced that most hotel bathroom designers have never stayed in a hotel!).
The breakfast buffet is excellent with something for everyone (except no chocolate sprinkes for the Dutch). Make sure your rate includes breakfast.

This is a very nice place to stay - huge rooms, beautiful views of a black sand beach and turquoise water - we fell asleep to the sound of the waves crashing every night. The staff are super friendly and helpful!!

We never ate lunch or dinner there. Dinner was always a buffet style and reviews hadn’t been great. We like to have vinho with dinner thus don’t want to drive - the beach bar a short walk away served us well - basic food and drink, but very affordable and hit the spot for a couple of nights. Very good restaurants are 5-10 minutes drive away (Casa do Abel is highly recommended with a reservation!)

The front desk/reception staff were wonderful, pleasant and helpful. We we disappointed with the restaurant hostess, she was rude and very unpleasant at most encounters. Meals are all buffet style and required reservations, we were told after staying there for 5 days we were expected to eat breakfast the same time everyday. Under normal circumstances that would have been fine, however, we had excursions booked for different times throughout our stay. The grounds were beautiful. We did not have a car, and required a taxi to explore the area. There is a nice beach bar/restaurant nearby that we could walk to. Nothing else in walking distance. I would not recommend staying at this resort the entire length of your stay. Beautiful, but very remote.

Wonderful holiday with lots of hikes around lakes and along beautiful trails to waterfalls. We loved the hotel. Our suite was spacious and clean with a very comfortable bed and great bath. We had enough space to do yoga each morning. The staff were very pleasant and helpful providing information about hikes and tourism. Marcia was an absolute gem and looked after us so well. Beautiful island and a relaxing weeks holiday.

The hotel is gorgeous. Our room was excellent. The views are stunning. The restaurant menu needs a little work. Because the hotel is a little remote, it would have been nice to have a better menu selection/variety for lunch and dinner. Having said that, the dinner chef was able to make me special meals to accommodate my dietary needs. The service staff were great and friendly. The beach was super close and connected by an manicured waking path. The pool is gorgeous but it was not heated and could not be used at the time of year we visited (way too cold). Overall, a great stay.

Location was fantastic as was the hotel itself. Our only criticism were some of the waiting staff. Rude and honestly not up to the simple task of asking what we need. Had to be asked after waiting some time to serve us, which got a very abrupt reply. Ordered room service one night, only for my meal, (not the wife's) to show up 50 mins later and stone cold. Rooms were very clean and comfortable.

I've never stayed in a hotel that tells you there is an additional charge for using the safe in the room. Why irritate guests this way?

The grounds were gorgeous the lobby grand!! The room windows and balcony door filthy never cleaned and carpet stained. Bathroom very outdated. Pestana Bahia Praia is a very nice hotel in a very nice setting. The way it is set up it is secluded from the public black sand beach. Rooms are spacious, bathrooms are spacious. Safe is in a room but cost additional 2 euros per day to rent which was unexpected (they give you an activator pin that has to be inserted into a safe to make it work). I travel extensively all over Europe and have never seen this before. Overall hotel is very relaxing, clean, grounds are also nice and clean. If I make any recommendation for improvement it would be for food. Breakfast buffet set up is all over the place and creates unnecessary traffic jams. It is almost like they need a better organization so people don't get into each others way. For example a milk should be next to cereal, instead it is next to grill where cook makes egg omelets. It makes no sense. So people are walking around looking for stuff. Why not to put milk and yogurt next to cereal so people looking for cereal don't get in a way of people in line for omelet? Also, only 1 person making omelet and a line is always long. Why not 2 people making omelets during peak morning hours? I do recommend that hotel brings a professional organizer who can observe and make recommendations to improve traffic jam in the buffet breakfast area. Another area of improvement is dinner buffet. We tried it and were not impressed. The food desires to be better. They need a better chef. Period.

We stayed here for a week and it was great. The location of the hotel is great, right next to the beach but it’s quiet and secluded. You definitely need a car to get around but the hotel is centrally located for all destinations. Breakfast was good, lots of choice and our sea view room was fantastic. The beach bar/cafe is a 5 min walk and serves great food. This is a great place to stay if you’re looking for quality accommodation in a great location
