Very overpriced and underwhelming experience. We went here for our honeymoon and wouldn’t recommend as a “honeymoon” type of visit. Not even a free dessert that congratulated us. AC broke done last night and couldn’t be fixed. Kitchen staff and breakfast was the only good thing. But otherwise this hotel categorizes itself as luxury but I wouldn’t agree with it. We don’t usually travel luxury either and aren’t high maintenance but this hotel missed the mark. The extra level of care and service was lacking to make this luxury.

Beautiful property with a walkway to the beach down a hill. Staff is very nice and accommodating. Given a phone to communicate with staff and got responses within minutes. Our 2 bedroom B&G villa was nicely decorated with spacious living room/kitchenette/ dishes and microwave. Private hot tub on the deck, great A/C. Pool has ocean view. Gym has only a few weights, one treadmill, feels hot inside due to hot tub in same space. Breakfast was included and was excellent. Highly recommend; we loved our stay.

Stunning location high overlooking the Atlantic with stairs down to the beach. Immaculate property, attentive service and excellent food. We ate all breakfasts and 2 of 3 dinners on property. Everyone was extremely friendly proving advice, setting up tours, etc. they even provide an intern et-enabled iphone to easily contact the concierges (also to get some updates on activities, menus, etc. Too cold and windy during our April trip to swim in the pool or ocean, but the jacuzzi was nice. Rooms are stylish but a little cold (aesthetically) and some odd design choices with glass toilet “walls” and a large tub in the room blocking movement. Would have been better with a shower and more storage. Would love to see it when it is warmer!

This is a very convenient location on the island for the following reasons. When staying at other hotels in the tourist areas such as furnas/ sete cidades you have to drive up steep roads daily to traverse in/out of your hotels city. That can take hours of your day away and depending on time of day (night hours) or weather can be unsafe having to commute such steep terrain. This hotel is located conveniently in the middle of the island, away from the main city so you can enjoy nature (15 min drive to Ponta Delgada). Staff was excellent, they provide you with a cellphone for your room which they communicate with for reservations/ attraction ideas to visit, any questions you might have. Beach is conveniently right there, myself and every guest i saw enter during my 1 week stay there all said “wow” when you walk in and take in the views at reception. I miss my stay there already.

What a beautiful property! The views are stunning everywhere on the property from the office to the restaurant to the rooms. I stayed in a private pool room and it was perfect. Very clean, smelled lovely, quiet, and relaxing. Room service is fast and the staff is friendly. I wish there was an option to rent a golf cart to use around the property because it was cold when we visited and the walk to get our taxi was torture. But otherwise absolutely no complaints. Can’t wait to visit again.

The staff was amazing with giving us recommendations and helping make reservations. My fiancé and I had one of our best vacations to date. The villa we had was beautiful and our view was one of the best to wake up to every morning. Our staff was very accommodating with local recommendations for food, travel and ways to move around the island. Great experience at this Resort. Staff went above and beyond to provide us with everything we needed. Ideal couples resort to reconnect and spend QT. My only recommendation would be to invest in the pools (Main & swim-out rooms) being heated to make this place an all year-round location.

The hotel was lovely and had a good design and flow. Breakfast was good. Rooms were of high quality including a kitchenette. Loved the pool at the end of the terrace. Gym also was useable with limited equipment, but the right equipment which was great. For me the maintenance needs to be looked at. Things work, but decor needs to be replaced/updated.

Santa Barbara Eco Resort is a gorgeous property with beautiful infinity pools and amazing views of the ocean. The fine cuisine is delicious and they source most of their fruits and vegetables from their onsite gardens. The beach was the widest and most secluded that we saw during our 1 week trip to the Azores. It is public and accessible by walking down stairs from the resort. Our room was clean and having a pool right outside our door was really fun and relaxing. The service at the restaurant and bar, as well as the concierge and reception was excellent-- the staff were very kind, resourceful, generous and fun. We really hope to go back to Santa Barbara Eco Resort.

We had an incredible experience staying here, almost everything was great. One of the perks of this place is that it gives an unforgettable opportunity to relax and enjoy a stunning nature around this gorgeous area. The overall experience with the ocean and the views is simply one in a lifetime!

As for what could be done better - certainly check in wasn't the smoothest, we were actually waiting for front desk to notice us when we entered the main entrance until we came to the desk and introduced ourselves (we were very tired and were waiting for nice and easy welcome), other than that staff at the restaurant was mostly providing good service, however some of the staff were a bit out of touch and pretty slow during breakfast and sometimes lunches/dinners (sometimes we had to stand up and walk up to ask for service as we were forgotten about). We had to also sometimes ask for housekeeping to clean up our room, as it was taking time up to early evening hours to realise we weren't getting any. Our room with pool side was great, but a bit dark. Massages were actually not perfect, but pleasing - we felt that it didn't worth the price paid.

As a last note, we'd like to thank Maria and Katarina for their splendid service and attention! Overall, it was very worth visiting this gem of a place, despite some minor disappointments.

It’s a beautiful place for sure and being able to walk down to the beach is great. We had a room with long shared pool and although it was not heated it was very lovely to look at. It was quite chilly during our visit so we also didn’t get to use the main pool which was not heated. The wellness center was great and because of Covid they were scheduling guests allotted times. Basically there’s a large hot tub and a few pieces of exercise equipment but it had a great vibe in there. Drinks were pretty good from the bar and we loved the bartender. He really puts his heart and soul into his craft. The food was a bit disappointing. These next comments are petty but I’ll menti I wish I could change a few things about the room. For one a small nightstand coming off the wall

It's a beautiful property. The beach bar was also good, we were pleasantly surprised that they had poke on the menu, we had it twice! We had massages with Nuno, he was excellent and very thorough, we felt relieved of our knots and muscles felt better, we highly recommend him. The staff could be a little friendlier, did their job, but didn't go out of their way to be more hospitable. We had a room with the pool, it was fabulous.

Beautiful views and well maintained resort! Friendly staff. Spacious rooms though we found the mattress uncomfortable, perhaps because it was sitting on a concrete platform. Despite being the busy season, the pool, beach and beach bar restaurant were never crowded and we ate many dinners at the beach bar restaurant because it was open until 9 and had beautiful views of the sunset. Only minor recommendations are that they add several basic amenities in the room like an iron and phone to be able to call concierge. The continental breakfast was good and you could order eggs and pancakes from the kitchen. We dined at the restaurant once and enjoyed the sushi and fish. They clearly take the “Eco” part of their name seriously, which I respect, however having more lights in the bathroom would have been convenient because it was very dark. These are minor details and we still enjoyed our stay a lot and would recommend to others.

The place is very lovely. My husband and I stayed for two nights as we drove around the island. Our room was one with a pool off the deck, which I think is the best of the rooms. It was beautiful and the bathroom was great too. The main swimming pool is also very nice and offers gorgeous views of the ocean. Beach is accessible and beautiful. There are many places to sit inside the lobby area and outside that are comfortable and lovely. The restaurant is convenient and food was nice. Service seems a bit slow. We went into town and ate the second night at a small local place. The resort is nice, but there is a bit of a feeling of being sterile. We stayed other places on the island that were so warm and friendly, so it was just different. Lastly, some maintenance is needed. Our deck had a couple broken boards outside our bedroom. My husband is in the pool business and thought the algae growth in the pools are indicative of low quality pool maintenance, although the water quality was fine and we enjoyed our swims.

Gorgeous property with an excellent location on the beach. Great views over Sao Miguel. The staff is friendly but, as others have mentioned, they are understaffed and it shows. Little things like missing towels, running out of food at breakfast. This is the most expensive property on the island, so these things shouldn’t be an issue. Otherwise it’s very nice.

Staff was friendly and we all really enjoyed eating at thr beach bar for dinner while watching thr sunset a few nights! Joao and Emanuel were awesome servers! If we ever come back to the Azores we will definitely stay here again! Quick 4 minute drive to the town and 20 minutes to the top of the highest mountain!

Beautifully situated on the ocean with a beautiful beach. The villa was simple elegance with a delicious buffet breakfast of fresh whole foods. Outstanding!

This is a wonderful place to stay. The rooms are stylish and comfortable, and we spent hours reading on the terrace looking over at the mountains. We will definitely come back again.

Great escape from city life

Fabulous place. The location is incredible. Wonderful room -- we had a 2BR with hot tub. The whole villa / bmain building / pool / beech vibe is awesome. Great view from the deck. Love the sound of the waves. Restaurant is good too -- for breakfast and dinner. We could have just stayed here, walking along the black sand beach without any other sightseeing and been happy. Staff is excellent and very helpful with suggestions for touring the Island. If I have to provide some negatives, room lighting is a bit poor and no toilet paper in toilet is a bit wierd. But it is an \"eco-resort\".

Best stay on the island

Pros: The room was beautifully furnished and we had an ocean view. Hotel grounds are lovely. Our room was one of the retreat studios—brand new, with our own hot tub on our patio. Wifi worked well. The bed was large and comfortable--a rarity on the island. Access to the beach was down quite a few stairs, but it was a nice beach. We were able to arrange massages upon arrival. Breakfast was excellent. As a vegan, I was able to get a good breakfast.
Cons: We did have some trouble using the tablet to actually place a call to the front desk when we could not find the remote for the air conditioner. The robes were rough wool, so we did not use them.
Overall, this was our favorite place we stayed on the island.

Love, love, love it!

We had a beautiful hotel room which had a great deck, view and its own (semi) private natural pool, the room was comfortable, spacious, and clean. It was a brand new section of the hotel which could have used a few minor tweaks (like a phone in the room etc.) but I have no real complaints. The food at breakfast and at other times of the day was great. The view by the pool of Santa Barbara beach was breathtaking. The snack bar was very handy. Loved the mojitos!

The best stay on the island

The Santa Barbara Eco-Resort was my favorite place we stayed at during our entire stay (we stayed at 3 other hotels as well). The restaurant has some of the best food we found on the island and it is in the most beautiful location. The staff is incredibly helpful and kind.

Room for improvement.

Room as quite large on the single room suite. Kitchen is nicely equipped. Over design is good.
However, lighting inside room is inadequate very dim. The lights in the bathroom is worst because there is only 1 light in the ceiling in a big bathroom. Doing makeup or anything with the mirror is impossible. You will have to get to the breakfast early because they do not refill food items when its close to 10:30 the cut off time. Scrambled eggs in the tray is already dry and many trays were empty by 10am.

The staff are everything at this resort! They are genuine and kind. We didn’t meet the chef, but the food is some of the best food we’ve had - at home or abroad!! If you visit the Azores don’t even think about staying anywhere else.
