The view!!! While deciding where to stay in the Azores, I do not think the reviews were clear about the view at this location. Truly, the view was amazing. We were lucky that our room had an incredible view, but the view can be enjoyed from many places throughout the resort.
The staff were so helpful and friendly. The room had a hot tub, and it was a great for unwinding at the end of a long day exploring.
The food was very good at dinner, breakfast just OK in my opinion. The mocktail (Sunset Sour) was the best mocktail I’ve ever had. Creative, delicious, local ingredients… all contribute to the food and drink at this location.
We had a couples massage in the outdoor hut, listening to the waves crash against the shore. Extremely enjoyable and memorable.

We spent an amazing week at the Santa Barbara Eco-Lodge! We were a group of 4 women (mom and 3 adult daughters). We had a beautiful suite overlooking the gardens and pond with ducks. The staff was amazing attending to every question we had. The resort is high on a cliff overlooking the ocean and beach with stunning views and beautiful sunsets. We enjoyed our daily breakfast with fresh juices, fruits and a wonderful selection of eggs, omelettes, and yogurt bowls. We also enjoyed a few dinners at the restaurant and nightcaps from the bar. The cute beach bar is an added bonus and was so fun to grab a cocktail and watch the sunset. Thank you for a wonderful time and we hope to be back.

We stayed at Santa Bárbara Eco-Beach Resort expecting a family-friendly experience, but it was completely unsuitable for traveling with a toddler.

While I can see the appeal for adults seeking a quiet, remote retreat, there is very little for children to do. When the weather is poor—as it was during our stay—you are essentially stuck indoors with no meaningful activities.

The layout adds to the difficulty. Rooms are located up a hill, requiring a golf cart to move luggage, which is inconvenient with a child. Safety was a constant concern: stone floors, steps, and design elements made it easy for a toddler to slip or get hurt. Even the reception had candles placed on the floor, which naturally attracted our child.

Outdoors didn’t feel any safer. There are areas with minimal or no guardrails and proximity to cliffs, meaning constant vigilance is required at all times. It was stressful rather than relaxing.

The bathroom condition was also disappointing. The one positive was the excellent food, but it did not make up for the overall experience.

We ended up leaving after only a few hours to find a more suitable hotel, and despite not staying the majority of our booking, we were unable to recover any unused funds.

In summary: a nice retreat for adults, but not appropriate for families with young children.

My rating is partially on my stay but more so the staff experience.

Background: I have always wanted to visit this property. I am from the West Coast in California and it is a long journey to get there upon arrival. The grounds are absolutely beautiful. It is everything that I wanted in terms of a retreat and a place to really have a sense of peace. Unfortunately, there were two events that happened in rapid succession and I was not happy or enthused at all.

Rather than go into the details of what transpired, I would like to go more in depth into their response. We all make mistakes, however, what I found very refreshing was that one, they not only owned up to both incidents, but two, they made every conceivable effort to atone for them.

That level of honesty and urgency is ultimately why I would visit this resort again. That level of dignity and respect is very much appreciated and it was because of that that I was able to enjoy the rest of my time there.

Very overpriced and underwhelming experience. We went here for our honeymoon and wouldn’t recommend as a “honeymoon” type of visit. Not even a free dessert that congratulated us. AC broke done last night and couldn’t be fixed. Kitchen staff and breakfast was the only good thing. But otherwise this hotel categorizes itself as luxury but I wouldn’t agree with it. We don’t usually travel luxury either and aren’t high maintenance but this hotel missed the mark. The extra level of care and service was lacking to make this luxury.

Beautiful property with a walkway to the beach down a hill. Staff is very nice and accommodating. Given a phone to communicate with staff and got responses within minutes. Our 2 bedroom B&G villa was nicely decorated with spacious living room/kitchenette/ dishes and microwave. Private hot tub on the deck, great A/C. Pool has ocean view. Gym has only a few weights, one treadmill, feels hot inside due to hot tub in same space. Breakfast was included and was excellent. Highly recommend; we loved our stay.

Stunning location high overlooking the Atlantic with stairs down to the beach. Immaculate property, attentive service and excellent food. We ate all breakfasts and 2 of 3 dinners on property. Everyone was extremely friendly proving advice, setting up tours, etc. they even provide an intern et-enabled iphone to easily contact the concierges (also to get some updates on activities, menus, etc. Too cold and windy during our April trip to swim in the pool or ocean, but the jacuzzi was nice. Rooms are stylish but a little cold (aesthetically) and some odd design choices with glass toilet “walls” and a large tub in the room blocking movement. Would have been better with a shower and more storage. Would love to see it when it is warmer!

This is a very convenient location on the island for the following reasons. When staying at other hotels in the tourist areas such as furnas/ sete cidades you have to drive up steep roads daily to traverse in/out of your hotels city. That can take hours of your day away and depending on time of day (night hours) or weather can be unsafe having to commute such steep terrain. This hotel is located conveniently in the middle of the island, away from the main city so you can enjoy nature (15 min drive to Ponta Delgada). Staff was excellent, they provide you with a cellphone for your room which they communicate with for reservations/ attraction ideas to visit, any questions you might have. Beach is conveniently right there, myself and every guest i saw enter during my 1 week stay there all said “wow” when you walk in and take in the views at reception. I miss my stay there already.

What a beautiful property! The views are stunning everywhere on the property from the office to the restaurant to the rooms. I stayed in a private pool room and it was perfect. Very clean, smelled lovely, quiet, and relaxing. Room service is fast and the staff is friendly. I wish there was an option to rent a golf cart to use around the property because it was cold when we visited and the walk to get our taxi was torture. But otherwise absolutely no complaints. Can’t wait to visit again.

The hotel was lovely and had a good design and flow. Breakfast was good. Rooms were of high quality including a kitchenette. Loved the pool at the end of the terrace. Gym also was useable with limited equipment, but the right equipment which was great. For me the maintenance needs to be looked at. Things work, but decor needs to be replaced/updated.

Santa Barbara Eco Resort is a gorgeous property with beautiful infinity pools and amazing views of the ocean. The fine cuisine is delicious and they source most of their fruits and vegetables from their onsite gardens. The beach was the widest and most secluded that we saw during our 1 week trip to the Azores. It is public and accessible by walking down stairs from the resort. Our room was clean and having a pool right outside our door was really fun and relaxing. The service at the restaurant and bar, as well as the concierge and reception was excellent-- the staff were very kind, resourceful, generous and fun. We really hope to go back to Santa Barbara Eco Resort.

We had an incredible experience staying here, almost everything was great. One of the perks of this place is that it gives an unforgettable opportunity to relax and enjoy a stunning nature around this gorgeous area. The overall experience with the ocean and the views is simply one in a lifetime!

As for what could be done better - certainly check in wasn't the smoothest, we were actually waiting for front desk to notice us when we entered the main entrance until we came to the desk and introduced ourselves (we were very tired and were waiting for nice and easy welcome), other than that staff at the restaurant was mostly providing good service, however some of the staff were a bit out of touch and pretty slow during breakfast and sometimes lunches/dinners (sometimes we had to stand up and walk up to ask for service as we were forgotten about). We had to also sometimes ask for housekeeping to clean up our room, as it was taking time up to early evening hours to realise we weren't getting any. Our room with pool side was great, but a bit dark. Massages were actually not perfect, but pleasing - we felt that it didn't worth the price paid.

As a last note, we'd like to thank Maria and Katarina for their splendid service and attention! Overall, it was very worth visiting this gem of a place, despite some minor disappointments.

It’s a beautiful place for sure and being able to walk down to the beach is great. We had a room with long shared pool and although it was not heated it was very lovely to look at. It was quite chilly during our visit so we also didn’t get to use the main pool which was not heated. The wellness center was great and because of Covid they were scheduling guests allotted times. Basically there’s a large hot tub and a few pieces of exercise equipment but it had a great vibe in there. Drinks were pretty good from the bar and we loved the bartender. He really puts his heart and soul into his craft. The food was a bit disappointing. These next comments are petty but I’ll menti I wish I could change a few things about the room. For one a small nightstand coming off the wall

It's a beautiful property. The beach bar was also good, we were pleasantly surprised that they had poke on the menu, we had it twice! We had massages with Nuno, he was excellent and very thorough, we felt relieved of our knots and muscles felt better, we highly recommend him. Beautiful views and well maintained resort! Friendly staff. Spacious rooms though we found the mattress uncomfortable, perhaps because it was sitting on a concrete platform. Despite being the busy season, the pool, beach and beach bar restaurant were never crowded and we ate many dinners at the beach bar restaurant because it was open until 9 and had beautiful views of the sunset. Only minor recommendations are that they add several basic amenities in the room like an iron and phone to be able to call concierge. The continental breakfast was good and you could order eggs and pancakes from the kitchen. We dined at the restaurant once and enjoyed the sushi and fish. They clearly take the “Eco” part of their name seriously, which I respect, however having more lights in the bathroom would have been convenient because it was very dark. These are minor details and we still enjoyed our stay a lot and would recommend to others.

Beautiful setting, service could be improved

Beautiful setting, great location. Beach is beautiful for sunbathing/swimming. Rooms are clean and comfortable. Only issues we had were with house keeping and hot water(which was fixed each time we had to ask).

The place is very lovely. My husband and I stayed for two nights as we drove around the island. Our room was one with a pool off the deck, which I think is the best of the rooms. It was beautiful and the bathroom was great too. The main swimming pool is also very nice and offers gorgeous views of the ocean. Beach is accessible and beautiful. There are many places to sit inside the lobby area and outside that are comfortable and lovely. The restaurant is convenient and food was nice. Service seems a bit slow. We went into town and ate the second night at a small local place. The resort is nice, but there is a bit of a feeling of being sterile. We stayed other places on the island that were so warm and friendly, so it was just different. Lastly, some maintenance is needed. Our deck had a couple broken boards outside our bedroom. My husband is in the pool business and thought the algae growth in the pools are indicative of low quality pool maintenance, although the water quality was fine and we enjoyed our swims.

Gorgeous property, very expensive

Gorgeous property with an excellent location on the beach. Great views over Sao Miguel. The staff is friendly but, as others have mentioned, they are understaffed and it shows. Little things like missing towels, running out of food at breakfast. This is the most expensive property on the island, so these things shouldn’t be an issue. Otherwise it’s very nice.

Relaxing, breathtaking views, perfect location and very good breakfast! Loved it here! We had 6 people that shared the 3 room retreat villa! Staff was friendly and we all really enjoyed eating at thr beach bar for dinner while watching thr sunset a few nights! Joao and Emanuel were awesome servers! If we ever come back to the Azores we will definitely stay here again! Quick 4 minute drive to the town and 20 minutes to the top of the highest mountain!

The resort is beautifully maintained, clean and spacious. The pool was unable to be used since it wasn't heated and we were vacationing in Feb, however great access to the beach/ocean.

This is a wonderful place to stay. The rooms are stylish and comfortable, and we spent hours reading on the terrace looking over at the mountains. We will definitely come back again.
