Look no further, book here. You will like it..

From the host greeting you on arrival to leisurely chatting to you and seeing you off in the driveway. You really can't fault this place. Perhaps it's normal by Japanese hospitality standards and this is why people love visiting the country as well as what the area has to offer.

Highly recommended to those seeking an experience to stay at a more traditional type of accomodation with enough privacy to access their facilities (hot springs) etc.

Can't be more satisfied.

This was our second visit since our first visit 4 years ago. And the best even gets better. We really expected flawless stay and we were even more satisfied. Private onsens are nice and the improvement with usage indicators on TV is a useful addition. Every meal is perfect, with beer being a welcome drink option. Sleep is perfect. Hospitality is perfect. Yamashiroya will always be our first choice for Yufu area visit.

The hospitality here is heartfelt and so welcoming

The warm welcome from our hostess and host basically set the tone for our one night stay at Yamashiroya. Note to others: please call ahead or take the back road to get to the ryokan. There is no way a car can get up the steep narrow road from the main 'town' area (i.e., take road 537).

Our room was delightful: cosy but had a flatscreen TV with free movies (albeit most are in Japanese), WIFI, and a pretty little mountain view. They only have 5-6 rooms all up and 4 onsens (2 indoor, 2 outdoor) so you chances of always being able to relax in the baths is quite high!

Stay also included dinner and breakfast - prepared in house and traditional Japanese style. Very yum and filling. Could not fault our stay and thoroughly enjoyed it. We got there around 4 PM in the afternoon and departed around 10 the next day.

Can't say much about local area because it's in the middle of nowhere, but the main purpose of staying in this hotel is to experience the Japanese style of living as well as the hot spring. It was a memorable and lovely stay.

The experience was great in yamashiroya. Great food, beautiful scenery, comfortable beds, nice open-air onsen and super friendly house owner and family members. If you consider yufuin is too comercial, do go to yunohira onsen wh8ch is more quiet and natural. And yamashiroya is the must go ryokan.

Best experience in Yufu

It is relaxing to stay at this ryokan, the food is so delicious, private onsen, warm welcome from the host, nice surrounding etc etc... It is the highlight of my entire trip.
The ryokan made me feel like paradise. You also got pick up from the Yunohira station.

Love this family owned Ryokan

Yamashiroya is a very nice Japanese Ryokan for you to relax and enjoy onsen. It's about 15 mins train ride from Yufuin and the owner picked up and dropped off from Yunohira station. Okami-san the owner was attentive and friendly. Both breakfast and dinner were delicious. We enjoyed the walk in the area. If you want to stay away from the busy Yufuin area, this will be your choice.

One of the best for Onsen and away from city

This is one of the best place I have ever stayed. If you like to have a relaxed holiday or a couple days away from the busy city, this is the place to go. This Is a family business and the owners are so friendly. I would definitely go back again. If you like Onsen, don't go to Beppu. This hotel is a perfect place with indoor and outdoor Onsen with mountain view.

A place to be recommended

Very comfortable. Food is awesome and onsens are good. Only once had we to wait for a while become an Onsen became available.

Stayed 2 nights and were pleasantly surprised that both breakfast and dinner were with completely different dishes from the first ones. They were prepared by the 70-years old mom of the landlady. Bravo to the old lady as the dishes were good. We thought they were even better than the Japanese restaurant of the hotel we later on stayed in.

Although the ryokan is 2 train stations away from Yufuin and the Yunohira station is without any taxi, it is not too much of a problem because of the courtesy of the owner to offer pickup. One can just ring at the coin operated phone at the station.

Amazing. Highly recommended for quiet getaway.

First off let me preface this by saying that you have to be open minded. Some foreigners want to go to a place and have it be just like home but in another country. If you are looking for a western style hotel that has a happening nightlife and tons of bars and people around, then this is not the place for you. But if you are looking for the real Japanese experience with a nice quiet getaway and amazing private onsens (private hot spring soaking baths) then this is your place. The staff was amazing, the area was old and quaint, the hotel was clean with a nice view of the small mountain town from our window. The rooms are Japanese style and the staff setup our futons and sleeping area while we ate one of the best home cooked meals i've had in Japan (note: futons in japan are not like american futons. They resemble thick sleeping bags that they use as beds, but, they are quite comfortable.) The food alone is worth the price of this hotel. As good as any 4 or 5 star restaurant I've been too. Although perfectly acceptable for a family, i see this as the perfect couples getaway. There isn't a ton to do around the hotel, but there is some beautiful walking, a few shops and historic sites and even a bar or two that probably close early. But we spent most our time in the hotel, smoking in the onesen, eating the amazing dinner they include with the price of room and playing some air hockey on an old air hockey table in the basement that was not very well kept but still fun to play.

Nice onsen stay

Yamashiroya provides breakfast, dinner, and private outdoor onsen for reasonable price. There were only 3 onsen pools but never had to wait (maybe because we went in May?). Meals were very tasty, and futons were comfy. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone for their first onsen experience. My only complaint would be that directions on how to get there was unclear on Hotels.com - if you are not driving. They provide pick-up service from the yunohira train station to the hotel if you let them know of your arrival time beforehand, but we weren't unaware of such service and had a tough time getting there (luckily we got help from strangers). Make sure you call them before you get there! There is no phone or security guard at yunohira station.

Wonderful foods and outdoor bathing

Foods were the best part of staying in this Japanese Ryokan. Both breakfast and dinner, served in Japanese style, were truly the best I have ever tasted in my 30 years as a frequent traveler to Japan. We stayed in the biggest room and we could get access to one of the two private outdoor bath in the downstairs, looking at deep mountains. Actually, Foods and Outdoor bath are the two crucial factors to consider, when we decide to stay in Japanese traditional Ryokan, and I was fully satisfied in these two categories. I liked the dining hall atmosphere, too. One thing I do not know is how the private outdoor bath look like when you stay in the other side rooms.

Seriously, I've travelled on 6 continents in 40+ countries, and this is without a doubt one of the BEST places I have ever stayed, and ever will. We would come back in a heartbeat! The food is outstanding, the hosts are fantastic, the onsen is incredible, and the wee town is other worldly.

In early May, the wisteria is climbing all through the valley, and it smells divine!

We met a Japanese couple who were visiting for the third time in only 4 months, because this place is the best!

The town has a number of public onsens around that are 200 Y, but of course the best ones are the private ones at the inn!

Very satisfying.

Top quality room. Convenient onsens, particularly for foreign first-timers. Outdoor onsen is beautifully decorated.

Meals are, in one word, supurb. Hospitality and services are top-rated. Okami-san (land lady) is especially an outstanding host. She handled everything effectively and made our stay much extra delighted compared to what would've been with typical hotel owner/manager.

We consider the location to be great, in order for the ryokan to be what it is intended to be. Access is all effectively handled by the hotel.

Highly recommended. We'll choose this place if we go to that area again.

A warm and friendly family hotel with all you need

Pretty nice family hotel. The owner and her staff are extremely friendly and warm. Dinner was pretty good and onsen is clean and has own privacy. We had a good walk around after dinner. Thanks for the pleasant stay!

'Wonderfully, wonderful! We will be back!!!\"

We were pleasantly surprised at the location of Yamashiroya ryokan & its neighbour -tucked away onto a small side way road! Arrived by cab from Yufuin station (should be Yunohira station - can arrange/call for pick-up). A wonderful, homely true ryokan for a family of three adults on Dec 19 with light snowfall the day before and light drizzle the next when we left. Lady owner, Ninomiya san & her family team were great in hospitality and meal preparations. She was so kind to share our cab fare too! Admirable deed; we reciprocated with a tips!. The family outdoor onsen was compact, clean and well-equiped. A truly traditional japanese living experience! Thank you. Keep it up!

山城屋さんの施設は少し古いですが手入れと掃除は行き届き、大変良い温泉とサービスをリーズナブルな料金で提供されていると思います。湯平温泉の赤提灯が映えるレトロな街並みは大正・昭和初期にタイムスリップさせてくれます。また来たいです。

첫 료칸, 잊지 못할 료칸.

산속에 있는 조용한 료칸입니다.

유후인역에서 유노하라까지 가는 왕복티켓(유노하라역에는 티켓사는곳이 없습니다.)을 사시고, 열차를 타신뒤 2정거장을 가셔서 열차 운전사분께 표를 보여드리고 내리면 됩니다.

유노히라역에 도착하시면 료칸에 연락하셔서(인스타 디엠도 받으십니다. @yamashiroya.oita ) 송영서비스를 요청하시면 데리러 오십니다. 15분쯤 걸리십니다.

첫인상이 굉장히 좋았고, 사모님이 한국어 단어도 알고계셔서 소통이 편했습니다.
그리고 가족탕 4곳으로 운영중이신데, 이 점이 가장 좋았습니다. 여자친구랑 같이 온천을 즐기고 싶었는데 둘다 너무 만족했습니다.
가이세키 석식 및 조식도 굉장히 맛있었습니다. 이 가격에 료칸에서 이런 식사가 가능하다니? 라는 토픽으로 일본 내에서도 방송사가 왔다 갔었다는데, 그 이유를 알것 같았습니다.

다음에 유후인쪽 료칸을 가게된다면 또 방문하고 싶습니다.

旅館給我很開心舒適的體驗 ，老闆老闆娘非常友善，早餐和晚餐都非常好吃，温泉是可私浸的，可從房間電視看到温泉使用情況，非常方便，
旅館擺設懷舊的物品保養得好好，有點回到兒時嘅感覺，整間旅館清潔乾淨，好有渡假嘅感覺。

Lovely stay

The amazing hosts made us feel very welcome and there’s a special warm feeling in this accommodation. The hosts gave us a ride to and from the train station, which worked great. There’s 4 lovely onsens inside the accommodation. The place feels like you’re at your grandma’s house, which is kind of nice but also it wouldn’t hurt if it was renovated a bit to a more modern style.

처음에는 가격 대비 음식은 물론 사장님과 직원분들의 친절함과 모든 면에서 '편안함' 을 느낄수 있었습니다.

그런데 료칸 로비에 비치되어있던 사장님이 직접 출간하신 책 내용 중 '편안함'이 료칸 운영의 철학이다. 라는 문구를 보고 머무는 동안에 아무 생각 없이 지나칠수 있는 얼음물 한잔, 온천 이용 및 유카타 입는 방법, 유노히라역에 처음 방문한 방문자들을 위해 열차 뒤쪽 위치에 걸려있던 플랜카드 등

정말 차원이 다른 섬세함과 정성에 감동을 받고 '편안함'에서 '행복함'을 느끼며 인간으로써 크게 가르침을 받고 여행을 마무리 할수 있었습니다.

기회가 되어 꼭 다시한번 찾아오고 싶은 행복한 공간이였습니다. ^^

가성비 료칸이라고 소문이 난 곳이라 기대하지 않을 수 없었는데, 기대이상으로 만족했어요. 유노히라까지 가는 것이 좀 번거롭지만 조용하게 쉬고 싶은 분이라면 강추합니다. 저렴한 가격에 맛난 식사, 친절한 서비스까지 만족할 수 있었어요. 시설이 좀 낡은 것이 흠이라면 흠이지만 그게 전혀 걸리지 않을만큼 나머지 서비스가 만족스러웠어요. 모든 온천탕이 가족탕이고 좀 좁고 작아서 단체로 사용하기엔 어렵지만 커플이나, 3-4인 정도의 가족이 사용하기엔 전혀 무리가 없습니다. 직원분들이 한국말을 조금씩 하실 수 있어서 의사소통에도 무리가 없었고요.
주변에 아무 시설도 없고 그냥 조용한 온천마을이라서 여러날 머물기엔 좀 무료할 수도 있겠지만 유후인이 식상하다면 유노히라로 가보는 것도 좋을 것 같아요.

已經多次入住，每到九州必去此位於湯平温泉山城屋，古式日本溫泉旅館，老闆夫婦招呼一流，完全💯relax,早晚餐非常美味豐富，有四個溫泉♨️，房內電視可知有冇使人，因為鎖上門，變成自己獨立，是此旅館獨特之處，而且預訂後可以約老闆到湯平站來回接送，感謝老闆夫婦令我有一個充滿回憶旅程

2016년3월 부부4팀8명 1박하고 노천온천실내온천이 가적탕으로 무료이용하고 가이세키 조식 너무 맛있었고 오카미상의 친절함에 반해 다시가고 싶었는데 코로나땜에
늦어졌지만 10월15일에 재방문 역시 음식과 온천과 오카미상부부는 변하지않고 너무너무 좋았다. 내년에 부모님모시고 다시 가려고 생각중이다. 감사합니다~~^^

후기 잘안남기는데 이곳은 정말 추천 하고 싶은 곳이라 후기남겨요! 신혼여행으로 오사카 ~ 후쿠오카 7일 동안 있으면서 제일 행복했던 하루 였어요~ 하루만 있었던게 아쉬울 정도 였어요! 우선 청결하고 음식도 깔끔하고 맛잇고 무엇보다 사장님이 너무 친절하시고 한국말도 너무잘하세요!! ㅎㅎ 근처에 편의점 없다해서 편의점에서 야식 잔뜩 샀는데 저녁상이 너무 푸짐해서 먹지도 못했어요 ㅠㅎ 다음에 후쿠오카 가게되면 또 가려구요! 온천도 너무 좋고 깔끔햇어요~^.^

첫 료칸이었는데 매우 매우 좋았습니다.
주인분들과 모든 스텝들이 친절했고
유후인에서 떨어져있었지만
유노히라역까지 픽업 서비스도 해주셔서 괜찮았습니다.

특히 음식이 참 맛있었습니다.
노천온천도 좋아서
잘 먹고 잘자고 잘 쉬고
2박을 하는 내내 힐링하는 시간이었습니다.

▶온천 : 지하에 4개의 노천온천이 있고, 방TV에서 실시간으로 이용유무를 알 수 있어요.(06시~23시까지이용가능)
앞에 산이보여서 경치좋고, 온천끼리 서로 붙어있어서 소리는 다 들려요.

▶음식 : 석식, 조식 다 좋긴한데 스시는 만들어진거 사온것 같고, 사시미가 안나온게 조금 아쉬워요.

▶접근성 : 송영이 가능하다고는 했으나 우리는 렌트카를 빌렸기때문에 찾아가기는 수월했어요. 하지만 마을초입이 좁아서 조심해야해요.

▶주변경치 : 료칸 뒤로 조금만 골목길 내려가면 뷰가 엄청 좋았어요. 사진찍기 좋아요 공기좋고 조용합니다.
주변에 편의점 아무것도 없어서 먹고싶은거 있음 사가야해요

전체적으로 만족합니다.
