This is a great hotel for making a short trip to Nara. The room was pretty small, but since we mainly used it to just drop off our bags and shower, we didn't need much more than that.

Great hotel for the value I paid in Japan. Very close to Kyoto station but not the main area. However, still walkable. I enjoyed my stay, stuff are very friendly, cafe is handily down stairs and overall good value

Highly recommended, great location, friendly staff

The hotel is in a perfect location. Close to the JR station and local sites. The room was very comfortable and clean. The staff were wonderful, warm, and friendly. I will definitely stay there again when I return to Nara.

Polite personnel. Room small, stuffy. Pillow extremely hard (supposed to be with two levels of softness, but were both very hard). Matress was very hard, uneven. Unconphortable.

Good location but overpriced

The hotel was only ok. We stayed at similarly priced hotels in Tokyo and Kyoto, and both of those were much much nicer than this one. They were both cleaner, and more modern. What the Nara Washington has going for it is its location and its lobby, and that's about it. Also, if you like a colder room at night, you'll have to leave the window open as the HVAC seems to only kick out heat at night (at least in the fall).

Small room for western visitors. Only room for any activity was on the bed. Only three Coat hangers. Room was very warm, we had to open a window to get the temperature down. It's reasonable value but you get what you pay for.

First of all the location is great. It is on a busy touristic street with many restaurants, bars, convenience stores. It is 5 min walking distance from Nara Station (trains, buses). It is just 20 minutes walk from Nara Park and several shrines.

The hotel is clean, and my room was cleaned daily without fail. The staff is friendly and speak some English. The rooms are small by American standards, but I've stayed in smaller hotel rooms both in Japan and in Europe. I have not tried their breakfast.

Great help from staff in time of need

My wife and I were travelling with my younger brother and his wife. On the train ride to Nara my brother began suffering from a bad migraine headache. We arrived 3 hours prior to check-in time, but the manager immediately made a room available for my brother so that he could rest in a cool, dark, quiet place. Additionally, the staff brought him an ice pillow to help give him comfort.

I really appreciated the staff's willingness to accommodate him while he was suffering.

Everything I needed in a Japanese business hotel.

The Nara Washington Hotel Plaza provided everything I needed in a business hotel: A convenient location, easy to find from the railroad station; a clean, comfortable room; efficient, trouble-free service from everyone; a great breakfast included with the room. And all at an eminently reasonable rate. I readily recommend the Nara Washington Hotel Plaza, and will use it or others in the Washington Hotel Plaza chain whenever the opportunity arises.

Simple yet functional

The location of this hotel is lovely since it is close to both the JR station and the Kintetsu station. It is surrounded by plenty of food shops, convenience stores, and other fun shops. The rooms themselves are basic, but they work just fine. The pillows leave much to be desired in my opinion, but other than that, it is quite fine! The free wifi is awesome as well. I have stayed in both a single and double room.

Stayed there for a day for business trip. The room is too small. The breakfast in not buffet, I would recommend the restaurants outside the hotel its much cheaper. If you need just for a place to sleep then I would recommend this hotel.

Don't let the name fool you

The room is small, but acceptable in Japanese standard. The blanket-sheet is small, so small that it barely covers the bed. The room is supposed to be non-smoking, but an ask-tray and the smell remains.

the room was certainly the largest - quite tired - low on extras - not even a bottle of water provide -

Location is great, and right on the shopping street. Staff are as you'd expect from Japan - super great and friendly, and can speak enough English to get by without much issue. The single rooms provide 2 pillows: hard, plastic pellet filled one (typical for a JP business hotel), and much softer ones. (more Western hotel style) Too bad the same can't be said of the mattress, which is the same as sleeping on a Japanese futon - hard. Room amenities and design are typical for this price in Japan, things are a little bare, but the prices are good.

The rooms are small here but clean and staff accommodating. Very convenient being near the JR and Kintetsu stations. Convenient shopping and restaurants too. It is on a one way street, so not much traffic although a late hours pachinco place across the street. Cafe downstairs had good food for breakfast.

Very convenient location from Nara Station and somewhat close to the major sites. Room was compact like a typical Japanese business hotel, definitely not a luxury room but adequate for day or two. Hotel staff was friendly and accommodating, even making up our room early when we came back a bit earlier than we had planned, right in the middle of their room cleaning time. It was a nice and clean room and a good location, but not much more. If the room price was right, I'd consider staying again.

Amazing town and this hotel is right in the middle

I loved this little town. The hotel is located in the center of an adorable local street. There are shops all down the strip. Coco's curry house is located at a nearby intersection (this is a must eat place in Japan). This town is near plenty of interesting shrines and temples, including Daibutsu (the biggest Buddha in Japan). Also there are deer that you can feed and pet in the near by park. As for the hotel, it was simple but pleasant. There was nothing to complain about. The staff understood English and were very friendly.

Bad service, bad rooms.

Room too small even for Japanese standards. Bed very small and uncomfortable. It should never be advertised as double or even \"semi-double\" (a strange concept, anyway). It is almost impossible to open a suitcase because of lack of space and you can not move in a room with the suitcase open on the floor. Stuff unfriendly with very limited command of English. They have refused to print our flight boarding passes obtained by internet and sent us to paid internet cafe in a town. First they said that the printer is not working, then they have changed the explanation for \"this is agains our rules, we don't provide such service to guests\". They also did not want to give us a second key, which was a nuisance since we had somewhat different plans. Their explanation was that this is for our security(???). Overpriced breakfasts. We ate better ones the next door for half the price. Generally no value for money.

Good for the price and an ideal location

As with all the hotels on this trip I booked based on location and this was within 5 minutes walk from Nara rail station and about 15 minutes from Nara Park so it was ideal. The room was decribed as a semi-double and that's what we got a small double room (although there are bigger ones). Had no real complaints about the hotel apart from having booked a 'non smoking' room, none were available - we opened the window and the smell did go quite quickly. Tried breakfast on first morning (of 2) but didn't go back. It was plated and described as 'American', it was OK, just a little odd and not particularly good value so we bought pastries from nearby. Lots of restaurants on the doorstep.

Can't beat the value

There are fancier hotels in Nara, but you will pay more to stay there. The Washington is centrally located, and since you won't be in your room to do more than sleep, it has everything you need. The one knock I would give it is the breakfast service. I was there for a week and they had the same three choices every morning (and one of those wasn't all that great, so actually two choices. By the end of the week a little variety would have been nice.

Well located hotel in Nara ...

I spent four nights at this hotel to have the chance to really take in the sights Nara has on offer. Sanjo Dori is a lovely main street full of restaurants and nice little shops. This is much less busier than Kyoto. Washington Plaza hotel is a 3 minute walk from the 5 story Pagoda and Nara Park. It is about 20 minute work to the Nara Hotel if you want to have a meal or coffee there. Todai-ji is about 20min walk from the hotel.
The hotel is basic but offers a cosy room. I would thoroughly recommend this hotel for its location which seems to be typical of the Washington hotel chain (i.e. strategic location).

Rooms are very small (even for Japan). Sheets and towels were clean as well as the bathroom. However there were some spots which are systematically not cleaned up and there are many layers of dust (around the windows for example). Room's furniture is very old.
The location is very good: very close to the JR train station and tourist attractions.

Small hotel about five minutes walk from main Nara train station on a relatively quiet street full of small shops. Rooks are small but clean and adequate. Free (wired) Internet and (unstocked) fridge in room. Good restaurant/coffee shop connected to hotel that is excellent value for money and open from 0700 to 0200 each day.
