Located at Sindu Beach, this hotel is just a 20-minute drive from Ngurah Rai International Airport and the centre of Kuta. The décor of the hotel is exceptionally designed, with Western zodiac symbols and Chinese astrology signs reflected in its artworks.
The central theme, the world of astrology, runs throughout, starting with the public area around the entrance and lobby and going right through to the different types of villa units. They all feature modern appliances, as well as contemporary built-in furniture contrasted with traditional Balinese accessories, striking a balance between modern and old-fashioned.
Most of the materials used are locally-sourced Indonesian products, with the wood and copper being of particular note. The colour scheme displays the influence of the masculine with softly sensual tones in the wooden floors, rattan, stones and marble used throughout the villas.

We enjoyed our stay at Villa Mahapala, the room is spacious, clean and quiet, with very friendly staff. The daily breakfast options are nice, very generously proportioned.
On the downside, the villas are a little tired, perhaps overdue for a refresh. The mattress was quite comfortable, however clearly worn down. And there are about 16 light switches.
It’s a short walk to the beach and other venues up the street.
All in all, a very comfortable stay and we would consider for future trips.

The villa was spacious and had everything we needed. It was very private and quiet. The staff were all wonderful. The location is fabulous. Very close to the beach, shopping and restaurants. A few minutes walk along the boardwalk to Icon Mall for even more food choices. We will be back

Not great for young families
This was our 4th time staying in sanur and we love checking out the different villa’s. It was also our first time as a family of 4.
We had booked villa mahapala as we have heard great things about it but I don’t think we will be staying there again, even though the villa itself was clean and staff came to clean every day there were a few things that were missing in our villa stay.
- the pool was a only a little bigger than a plunge pool, also instead of it being tiled the bottom had some sort of rock at the bottom that was uneven and not pleasant when swimming, the pool was also 1.5m deep which is a little deep for the children and our nanny to swim in. The staff did however clean the pool everyday and was very clear
- there wasn’t a full sized fridge, the place was moreso a hotel room with a pool in it, we had a bar sized fridge which wasn’t ideal as when we stay in villas we like to make ourselves at home.
- there was no microwave to heat food or sterilize bottles for our baby.
- no big filtered water that was provided in other villas. We had to constantly buy and hotel staff give you enough just to brush your teeth etc. about 4 small bottles a day.
Overall it’s not what we were looking for, it’s close to the beach but everytime you would walk there you would be hassled by the vendors.

Superbe endroit. Les villas sont parfaites. Très bien équipées, Sdb avec double vasque, kit de rasage, brossage etc etc. Baignoire profonde, douche en extérieure. Piscine privée. Le petit déjeuner proposé est excellent et copieux, au choix indonésien, continental, américain, japonais, nous avions choisi le petit déjeuner Indonésien servi au choix au restaurant ou dans la villa. Très grand lit confortable. Tout le personnel est au petit soin et très aimable, un sans faute. Je recommande sincèrement.

We loved our stay at Mahapala, staff were so kind & helpful, the villa is so peaceful, a little slice of heaven, with our own pool! Breakfast in our villa at no extra charge is just the cherry on top! Oh & it's just a short walk to the beach where we saw baby turtles being released into the wild in the morning, such a lovely sight. They arranged transfers for us from the airport & to Sanur Port at ease, great staff, great stay! Hope to return some day :)

We absolutely loved our 10 days stay at Villa Mahapala. Our villa was clean and spacious. We loved having our own pool and outdoor space. The staff we so accomodating and the food we had from the restaurant was yummy. The location is fantastic. Less than 5 min walk down to Sanur Beach Promenade where u have access to lots of dining options and markets. Will definitely be back and be recommending to our family and friends.

We stayed in villa 116 from 9th June until 26th June. We left a day earlier only to be with other family near the airport. We loved everyday at Mahapala. Staff are the best you will ever come across in Bali. Breakfast was far to much and beautiful. Fot for a king & queen. If your a big breakfast eater, your going to love this place. We really enjoyed our stay at the Villa Mahapala. Everyone from the security guard, gardener, cleaner and reception were so friendly and the location was only 50m from the beach which was close to the action but far enough away when you wanted to escape the crowds.
The villas were very quiet (no traffic noise, night club music or roosters we’ve experienced elsewhere :-) and the bed was Uber comfortable. Having our own pool was a huge bonus, as was the breakfast delivered to the villa each morning.

- Breakfast was often cold or only lukewarm. Also, every plate, glass, mug, bowl, dish, etc was separately covered in cling wrap. So much plastic waste! It would be preferable to get metal plate covers.
- No mosquito fogging in wet season. Only one coil provided daily, and usually when we were heading out for dinner. We had to buy our own, as you needed them morning and night when in the living pavillion.
- Water dispenser not provided - just four small bottles per day. This is so much single use plastic waste!
- Tiny fridge inside room, no kitchen facilities in living pavillion. No bottle opener. Basically a hotel room with a private pool.
- Unable to control temp or fan speed on AC. Temp was set at 16c and high fan speed, so the room was freezing cold at night.
- Blinds old and worn out, didn't close properly, so no blockout leading to early wakeups. But the room was also somehow very dark during the day, even when raising the blinds all the way up.
- No clothes airer provided to dry swimming costumes and towels.

Villa Mahapala is an absolute gem only 100 meters from the beach. The collection of Villas are traditional Balinese style with plunge pools, while the main area has a restaurant, larger pool and gym. The night markets are also an easy 10 minute stroll and there are heaps of places to eat along the beach. The staff were amazing and the free breakfast in a bonus, and can be delivered to your Villa each morning. Would highly recommend staying here.

I had an excellent stay in a 2 bedroom villa. The staff were amazing and the villa was clean and very well maintained for an ageing property. The setup of the 2 bedroom villa is well suited for 2 couples or a family wanting the privacy of your own pool. The second bedroom has the same fit out with large bathroom and double vanity. Highly recommend this property!

Absolutely love staying here. It’s a hidden gem close to the beach and all the good restaurants. Clean, a lovely pool in the villa and breakfast served in the villa for even more privacy.

5th time staying here and can not fault it. Very comfortable bed with a bed topper. Pool was crystal clear. Love the high timber and thatch ceiling and so much timber. Very Balinese theme and NOT sterile and concrete walls. Staff are all amazing, friendly and professional. Very close to the beach and amazing restaurants. Only bad thing about Mahapala is leaving and waiting to come back for the next time. Love this place like it is home

Just stayed 4 nights in a 2 bedroom pool villa at Mahapala. Could not fault it at all and will definitely return. Just loved everything about this property. Staff so helpful, villas beautiful, private pool fabulous and kept so clean each day, breakfast good, resort main pool is fabulous and its jacuzzi awesome. Just a 1 minute walk to the beach is so handy, shopping handy at both Baruna Beach market and Sindhu Beach market, or easy to walk up to Jl.D Tamblingan (we actually cut through one of the beachfront resorts up to the street - was quicker than walking up Jl. Sindhu). An abundance of cafes and dining options abound along the beachfront with easy access by the newly upgraded double pathway. A fabulous stay - wish it could've been longer.

Villa Mahapala - Not on the recommendation list
The reviews are really mixed about Villa Mahapala and I was hoping the better ones were more accurate. Overall very disappointing given how expensive this was. The rooms are very tired and for the price the linen felt unclean, towels had holes in them, the shower stopped working on the last day and the level of care was really low. No turn down service and had to ask repeatedly for the basics. No glasses, menus or bottle opener in the room. Bath blocked and toilet stopped working while I was there. The staff try however I wouldn’t recommend to anyone.

Overall we were happy at the Mahapala. The room was big and spacious, bathroom was great with door direct to pool, outside shower loved it. The villa was great, my only concern was there was no directory for phone numbers for reception, restaurant etc. So if we wanted anything we would have to walk up to reception or restaurant. They need to add bottle opener to villa. It was a pleasant stay. Would recommend.

With a few minor tweaks around how the service works, this villa and complex could be amazing. Nothing specific to complain about, but just little things that would enhance the overall experience.
